Emulation-and-beyond libraries need more than a title and a poster. Every library shape (GameEntry, CustomEntry, CustomInput, ProviderEntryInput) now carries a shared, flattened GameMeta: platform, description, developer, publisher, release_year, genres, tags, region, players. All fields are optional and flat on the wire, so existing library.json files, provider plugins, and clients keep working unchanged. - Installed-store scanners (Steam, Lutris, Heroic, Epic, GOG, Xbox) stamp platform=PC; custom/provider entries carry whatever was authored. - GET /library grows a ?platform= filter (case-insensitive) beside ?provider=. - Console: the add/edit form gets a Details section (round-tripping every field, since update replaces the entry), the poster tile a platform badge (non-PC only — the store badge already implies PC) and the year. - plugin-kit: ProviderEntry accepts the same fields (new GameMeta schema, spread flat); SDK + OpenAPI spec regenerated. - pf-client-core decodes platform for future client badges. feat(session): bind a session's life to its game's, in both directions (Linux)
Two of the most-asked-for behaviors, and until now the host could only manage a
sliver of one of them: end the streaming session when the launched game exits,
and — when the operator asks — end the game when the session ends.
Ending the session on game exit already worked, but only for a Steam title under
a bare-spawn gamescope. Everywhere else the host spawned a launch and forgot it:
the pid was logged and dropped, so on KWin, Mutter, wlroots or gamescope-attach a
finished game left the client staring at a desktop. Ending a game was not
possible at all — there was no primitive for it.
The missing piece was never plumbing, it was knowledge: a launch says what to
run, not what the game looks like once a launcher has handed off. So each store
now also reports how to recognize its game (DetectSpec, previous commit's
subject matter, folded in here), procscan turns that into live pids on Linux, and
gamelease turns pids into a lifetime — with four kinds covering how the game got
started:
nested gamescope owns it; its display teardown ends the game
child the host spawned it, in its own process group
matched a launcher owns it; recognized by its store's signals
untracked nothing identifies it — both behaviors stay off, and the host
says so once rather than guessing
A child that exits successfully within 5s was a launcher handing off, not the
game: the lease re-resolves to matched (or to untracked) instead of reporting an
exit. That single rule is what keeps steam://, epic:// and playnite:// launches
from ending a session the moment they start.
Ending a game is destructive, so three rules bound it. It is opt-in
(game_on_session_end defaults to keep). A drop is not a decision — `always`
waits out a reconnect window (5 min) that a returning client cancels by
reclaiming its own game, matched on fingerprint and title. And only ever this
session's game: a pid is adopted only if it started after the launch, so a copy
the player already had open is never touched, and every pid is re-verified
against its start time immediately before being signalled, so a recycled pid
never is. Termination asks first (SIGTERM to the group, 10s) and only then
insists.
Also here, because they are the same decision seen from other angles:
- A management stop is now a deliberate stop. `DELETE /session` sets quit before
stop, so it behaves like a client pressing Stop — the display skips its
keep-alive linger instead of lingering for a session nobody is coming back to.
- `/status` reports what is running (games[]), including a game whose session has
gone and which is waiting out its window, so the console can show it and offer
`POST /game/end`.
- New game.running / game.exited events, filterable like every other kind, which
is the whole polling loop of the community plugin this replaces.
- session_status::register takes a named struct: eleven positional arguments,
half of them same-typed Arc<Atomic…>, is a transposition waiting to happen.
Gates on Linux (.21): check, clippy --all-targets, fmt, and 291 tests green.
Windows (Job Objects, Toolhelp matching) and the GameStream plane are phases 2
and 3; both are inert here, as is macOS, which has no launch path at all.

Every installed-store scanner (Steam; Lutris+Heroic on Linux; Epic/GOG/
Xbox on Windows) was hardwired on. New library-scanners.json persists the
operator's disabled set (default all on; absent/malformed = all on);
all_games() gates each provider, so disabling one hides its titles from
every surface (console grid, native clients, GameStream app list, launch
resolve). GET /library/scanners lists this platform's scanners + state;
PUT /library/scanners/{id} toggles and emits library.changed — admin lane
only (the cert allowlist's exact-path /library match keeps both off the
LAN surface). The console's Library page grows a "Game sources" card with
one chip per scanner (platform-shaped by the API), EN+DE strings, story.
The scanners are slated to become plugins; the stable per-scanner ids are
the migration seam.

External game-library providers become first-class (RFC §8): a plugin
computes its desired title list and PUTs it — the host owns the diff.
- CustomEntry gains `provider` + `external_id` (API-set only; never on
manual entries). GameEntry surfaces `provider` for console attribution
and the new `GET /library?provider=` filter.
- PUT /api/v1/library/provider/{p}: atomic declarative reconcile keyed
on the provider's `external_id` — host ids stay stable across syncs,
orphans drop, manual entries and other providers are never touched,
an empty array clears the set. Validated: provider id [a-z0-9._-]
(`manual` reserved), unique non-empty external_ids.
- DELETE /api/v1/library/provider/{p}: clean uninstall, returns the
removed count.
- Ownership is unambiguous both ways: manual CRUD now returns 409 for a
provider-owned entry (MutateOutcome::ProviderOwned) instead of letting
an edit be silently clobbered at the next sync.
- library.changed now carries the mutating source (`manual` or the
provider id) — hooks and the SDK filter on it.
- Spec + SDK schemas regenerated; sdk/examples/provider-sync.ts is the
provider-plugin skeleton.
347 host tests green (pure reconcile: stable ids, orphan drop,
idempotence, bystanders untouched; name/payload validation; route 400s)
+ 11 SDK tests. Live-verified end to end THROUGH the SDK against a real
host: sync → filtered list → manual-delete 409 → re-sync with stable id
+ orphan drop → uninstall (removed=2), with three
library.changed(source=romm) events observed on the live stream.

Wholesale commit of every uncommitted change across the tree, at the user's explicit request — host refactor-campaign W1 (native.rs facade + native/ dir, library/ + mgmt/ splits), Android, core. These streams were mid-flight and not individually built/tested together; this supersedes the per-session HOLD markers. Consolidating so everything lands on main in one pass. fix(host): make client game launches work on every Linux compositor
Client-initiated launches (Hello.launch / GameStream applist) were only wired to gamescope's bare-spawn path via the process-global PUNKTFUNK_GAMESCOPE_APP env — which leaked across sessions, was never read by kwin/mutter/wlroots (launch was a silent no-op there), and was unreachable on gamescope anyway because apply_input_env unconditionally defaulted to the managed session (which bails on non-Bazzite/SteamOS boxes and ignores the launch command in all its modes). - Thread the launch per-session: resolve the library id at handshake, carry it on SessionContext (Windows: id; else: resolved command), and hand it to the backend instance via set_launch_command — the global env write is gone (the env stays as an operator fallback in spawn). - Gamescope sub-mode ladder (pick_gamescope_mode, pure + unit-tested): managed only when session-plus/SteamOS infra exists, attach for an explicit request or a foreign (non-host-descendant) gamescope, else bare spawn — which nests the launch and is now reachable on plain distros instead of the guaranteed managed-mode bail. - launch_session_command: one launch entry point for both planes once capture is live — desktop compositors plain-spawn into the retargeted session (the virtual output is primary); managed/attached gamescope spawns with the live session's DISPLAY/GAMESCOPE_WAYLAND_DISPLAY discovered from /proc (steam:// URIs also forward over Steam's own pipe). launch_is_nested gates bare spawn against double-launching. - GameStream unified onto the same dispatch; also nests library-id picks into gamescope (previously only apps.json cmd was nested). Validated live on the dev box up to the missing-GPU wall: handshake resolution, Spawn sub-mode on plain Ubuntu, gamescope spawned with the command nested. On-glass validation (kwin spawn on the streamed output, Bazzite/Deck managed forward) pending GPU reattach. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(gamestream): advertise HDR + surface the game library (with covers) to Moonlight
Bring the GameStream/Moonlight plane up to the native plane's capability parity. HDR (Windows only): - New host_hdr_capable() gate (Windows + PUNKTFUNK_10BIT, matching the native policy). serverinfo layers SCM_HEVC_MAIN10 onto the probed/static codec mask, so Moonlight finally offers its HDR toggle (live: mask 0x10101 -> 0x10301). - Parse the client's dynamicRangeMode into StreamConfig.hdr and pass it through to OutputFormat::resolve, so a client HDR request proactively enables advanced color on the per-session virtual display (PQ flows even from an SDR desktop). The encoder bit depth now derives from the captured frame format (gs_bit_depth) rather than a hard-coded 8 that mislabeled the already-Main10 HDR stream. Game library in /applist: - The catalog now layers library::all_games() (Steam/Epic/GOG/Xbox/custom) on top of Desktop/apps.json, each with a STABLE GameStream id (FNV-1a, dedup-probed) and the store-qualified library id. Launch routes through the existing security-reviewed launch_title/launch_command via library::launch_gamestream_library — a client can only pick an existing title, never inject a command. - /appasset cover proxy: Moonlight fetches per-app covers from the host, so resolve appid -> library cover URL and proxy the bytes (portrait -> header -> hero -> logo; data: + bounded http(s) fetch), on a blocking thread. IsHdrSupported reflects the host HDR capability. 4:4:4 stays off on GameStream by design: stock Moonlight is 4:2:0 and the Windows IDD-push capturer can't deliver full chroma yet (capturer_supports_444() == false); the gate is documented so it lights up once IDD-push full-chroma capture lands. Validated live (Moonlight -> Windows NVENC host): HDR advertised, the Epic library shows with covers, launch works. clippy clean; apps/serverinfo/library unit tests cover the HDR mask, stable-id, dedup, and data-URL paths. fix(host/security): close audit findings S1,#1,#4,#10,#12,#7,#6,S2-S6 (Linux/cross-platform)
Remediations from design/security-review-2026-06-28.md verified on Linux (cargo check/clippy/test green; Windows-gated paths verify in CI): - S1 [HIGH]: bump quinn-proto 0.11.14 -> 0.11.15 (RUSTSEC-2026-0185, pre-auth out-of-order STREAM reassembly memory exhaustion on the always-on default QUIC listener). - #1 [HIGH]: remove the unauthenticated nvhttp `GET /pin` endpoint; the GameStream PIN is delivered ONLY via the bearer-gated mgmt API, so a network client can no longer submit its own displayed PIN and self-pair. - #4 [HIGH->MED]: gate the unauthenticated RTSP/UDP media plane on a paired `/launch` and bind it to the launching client's source IP (threaded through the HTTPS handler), so an unpaired peer can neither start capture on an idle host nor ride a paired client's active launch. - #12: bound concurrent parked pairing waiters (MAX_PARKED_WAITERS) so a pre-auth peer can't pin unbounded 300s handshakes. +regression test. - #10: throttle the per-packet ENet control GCM-decrypt-failed warn (exponential backoff) so a junk flood can't spam the log. - #7 [MED->LOW]: serialize all process-global env mutation on the session-setup path under a new vdisplay::ENV_LOCK (apply_session_env / apply_input_env / the launch-cmd set_var / the gamescope env read), so concurrent native sessions can't race set_var/getenv (data-race UB -> host-wide DoS). Full per-session SessionContext threading remains a follow-up for cross-session value confusion. - #6 [MED]: move the gamescope EIS socket relay from world-writable /tmp to $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR (per-user 0700) and reject a symlinked relay file, so a local user can't intercept (keylog) or deny the remote session's input. - S2: a malformed client Opus mic frame now drops that frame instead of tearing down the shared host-lifetime virtual mic (cross-session DoS). - S3: track held buttons/keys in capped HashSets (was unbounded Vec with O(n) scans) so a paired client can't grow per-session input state. - S5: reject fps==0/absurd at the open_video chokepoint (covers Hello, ANNOUNCE, Reconfigure) so the encoder time_base/pts math can't div-by-0. - S6: bound the shared mic mpsc (drop-newest when full). - S4: cap Epic launcher-cache reads (catcache.bin/.item) so a planted giant can't OOM the host during library enumeration. feat(gamestream): launch apps on Windows + Linux non-gamescope hosts
GameStream's apps.json `cmd` is delivered via set_launch_command, which ONLY the Linux gamescope backend nests. On Windows (no gamescope) and Linux kwin/mutter/wlroots (which stream the existing desktop) the command was silently dropped. Now, after capture is live, stream.rs spawns it via library::launch_gamestream_command for those backends — Windows: into the interactive USER session (spawn_in_active_session, since the host is SYSTEM); Linux: a plain `sh -c` spawn into the host's own graphical session so the app lands on the streamed (primary) output. Linux gamescope keeps nesting via set_launch_command and is skipped here to avoid a double launch. The command is operator-typed apps.json (trusted), never client-set. feat(library): shared cover-art warmer + cache (GOG + Xbox art)
A disk-backed art cache (library-art-cache.json in the canonical host config dir) is the source of truth read by all_games(), so the library list + launch-resolve never block on the network. A host-lifetime background warmer (start_art_warmer, started in serve()) fetches uncached art OFF the hot path: GOG via the public no-auth api.gog.com product API, Xbox via the unofficial no-auth displaycatalog (keyed by StoreId). Both best-effort (protocol-relative URLs normalized to https; results cached even when empty so they aren't re-fetched). The GOG + Xbox providers now read cached_art() (title-only until warmed). Cross-platform (ureq blocking HTTP — no tokio on this path) so the fetch/parse code is compiled + checked everywhere; a host whose stores all self-provide art (Steam CDN / Heroic CDN / Lutris data: URLs) does no fetching. Dep: ureq (webpki roots, no system certs). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(library): Windows Xbox / Game Pass store provider
XboxProvider scans each fixed drive's <drive>:\XboxGames for GDK games (presence of Content\MicrosoftGame.config marks a game vs. an ordinary UWP app), parsing title / Identity name / Executable Id / StoreId via roxmltree. The PackageFamilyName is READ from the AppRepository\Packages\<PackageFullName> dir name (reduced to Name_Hash) — never computed from the publisher. Launch via the AUMID (shell:AppsFolder\<PFN>!<AppId>) through explorer in the interactive user session (UWP activation needs the user token, which spawn_in_active_session already provides). Cover art (displaycatalog) is deferred → title-only. Known v1 gaps: custom .GamingRoot install folders + non-GDK pure-UWP Store games (under the ACL-locked WindowsApps) aren't enumerated. New windows_launch_for `aumid` arm; XboxProvider wired into all_games() under cfg(windows). Dep: roxmltree (Windows). Windows unit tests cover MicrosoftGame.config parsing (incl. the ms-resource title fallback), the PackageFullName→PFN reduction, and the aumid launch. feat(library): Windows Epic + GOG store providers
EpicProvider reads the launcher's local .item manifests under %ProgramData% (no auth, launcher need not run) with Playnite's exclusion filter (skip UE_* components + non-launchable addons + dead install dirs); cover art from the base64 catcache.bin (public Epic CDN, best-effort). Launch via the com.epicgames.launcher:// URI opened through explorer.exe — the namespace:catalogItemId:appName triple, with a bare-appName fallback so a launch is never dropped. GogProvider enumerates HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\GOG.com\Games (winreg) + each goggame-<id>.info primary FileTask into a direct-exe spawn (no Galaxy, dodges its cold-start/anti-cheat). GOG cover art (public api.gog.com) is deferred — it needs an HTTP fetch + cache off the hot all_games() path — so GOG is title-only for now. windows_launch_for gains epic/gog arms; both providers wired into all_games() under cfg(windows). Deps: base64 moved to the cross-platform table (Epic catcache decode + Lutris art encode both need it); winreg added on the Windows target. Windows unit tests cover the Epic exclusion filter + URI builder and the GOG spawn + play-task parsing. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(library): Lutris + Heroic store providers (Linux)
LutrisProvider reads the local pga.db (rusqlite, read-only/immutable so a running Lutris can't block us) → installed games, launch via `lutris lutris:rungameid/<id>`, cover art from Lutris's on-disk cache inlined as data: URLs (no public CDN keyed by a stable id, unlike Steam/Heroic). HeroicProvider parses Heroic's store_cache JSON — legendary/gog/nile = Epic+GOG+Amazon in one provider — installed-only with an install-dir existence cross-check (works around Heroic's gog is_installed bug #2691), free public CDN cover art, launch via `heroic --no-gui heroic://launch?...` (the single-instance-Electron gamescope-escape caveat is documented; needs live confirm). New command_for arms (lutris_id digits-guard, heroic runner+appName-guard) + both providers wired into all_games(); everything Linux-gated (the launchers are Linux-only), so the Windows/macOS host build is unaffected. Deps rusqlite (bundled SQLite, no system dep) + base64 added to the Linux target only. Unit tests with sqlite/json fixtures (installed-only filtering, CDN-art mapping, launch guards); live `library` enumeration returns [] gracefully on a box without the launchers. feat(windows-host): launch the chosen library title into the interactive session
Make the no-op Windows `set_launch_command` real. New `windows/interactive.rs` `spawn_in_active_session` (WTSGetActiveConsoleSessionId → WTSQueryUserToken → CreateProcessAsUserW(winsta0\default) under the LOGGED-IN USER token, factored from the wgc_relay primitive) + `library::launch_title` resolving a store-qualified id to a concrete process via `windows_launch_for` (steam_appid → Steam.exe/explorer.exe steam:// URI; command → cmd.exe /c). Threaded as `SessionContext.launch` into both native data-plane paths (`virtual_stream`, `virtual_stream_relay`) and fired after capture is live so the title renders onto the captured desktop and grabs foreground. Security invariant intact: the client sends only the store-qualified id; the host resolves the recipe from its own library and the URI/flags are handed to a concrete EXE as plain args (never cmd /c of a client string). Linux unchanged (gamescope nesting via the handshake PUNKTFUNK_GAMESCOPE_APP path). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(host/windows): Steam library auto-discovery on Windows
The Steam `LibraryProvider` keyed off `$HOME` + Linux paths, so the game library was empty on Windows. Add Windows discovery: the default Steam install dirs under Program Files (`ProgramFiles(x86)`/`ProgramFiles`/ `ProgramW6432`), with games on other drives picked up via each root's `libraryfolders.vdf` — whose Windows values are backslash-escaped, so unescape `\\` → `\`. The existing root-scan/dedup logic is shared via a new `steam_roots_existing` helper. The custom store (mgmt JSON CRUD) was already cross-platform; only Steam auto-discovery was Linux-only. Not yet covered: a non-default Steam install dir (the registry `Valve\Steam\InstallPath`). Degrades gracefully — no Steam → empty list. clippy -D warnings + library tests green on Windows and Linux. feat(launch): punktfunk/1 launch integration — client picks a title, host runs it
Plan step 4 (plumbing + host behavior). A client can ask the host to launch a library title on connect; the host resolves it against ITS OWN library and runs it in the session — the client sends only the store-qualified id, never a command, so a remote peer can't inject one. - Protocol (quic.rs): `Hello.launch: Option<String>` (the GameEntry id). Appended after `name`; when launch is present but name absent, a zero-length name placeholder keeps the offset deterministic — so a Hello with neither field stays byte-identical to the bitrate-era 26-byte form (test-asserted). Old peers ignore it; new hosts decode None from old clients. Round-trip + back-compat + truncation tests. - Host: `library::launch_command(id)` resolves id → command via the host's own library — `steam_appid` → `steam steam://rungameid/<appid>` (appid validated as digits, the only client-influenced part), `command` → the host-stored command verbatim (trusted, never from the client). m3.rs sets PUNKTFUNK_GAMESCOPE_APP from it before bringup, exactly as the GameStream /launch path does (one session at a time). Unit-tested incl. an injection-attempt guard. Takes effect on the bare-spawn gamescope path; a no-op on a shared desktop / attach-to-existing session. - C ABI: `punktfunk_connect_ex4` adds `launch_id` (NULL = none); `_ex3` now delegates to it. Threaded through NativeClient::connect → WorkerArgs → Hello. - client-rs gains `--launch ID` (headless testing); client-linux passes None (no picker yet). Header regenerated. Next: the Apple library grid passes the picked id via punktfunk_connect_ex4. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(host/library): game library API — Steam adapter + custom store
A new `library` module + four mgmt endpoints surface the host's games to clients
(plan: "surface the user's games"). An adapter layer (`LibraryProvider`) so future
stores (Heroic/Epic, GOG, Lutris) slot in behind one uniform `GameEntry`.
- SteamProvider: reads the LOCAL Steam install — no Steam Web API key, no network.
Installed titles from steamapps/appmanifest_<appid>.acf; extra library folders
(incl. paths with spaces) from libraryfolders.vdf; candidate roots cover classic,
Flatpak and Deck layouts, canonicalized + deduped (the .steam/{steam,root}
symlinks all fold to one). Runtimes/redistributables (Proton, Steam Linux Runtime,
Steamworks Common, SteamVR) filtered out. Artwork = the public Steam CDN by appid
(portrait/hero/logo/header), fetched directly by the client.
- Custom store: ~/.config/punktfunk/library.json, write-then-rename persisted,
CRUD'd via the API — the "create custom entries via the admin web UI" requirement.
- API (under /api/v1, OpenAPI-documented + checked in): GET /library (all stores
merged, sorted), POST /library/custom, PUT/DELETE /library/custom/{id}.
- `punktfunk-host library` subcommand dumps the resolved library as JSON (diagnostic,
mirrors `openapi`).
Validated live against the real Steam library on the Bazzite box: 89 appmanifests →
78 games (11 tools filtered), correct titles/sort, and the CDN art URLs return 200.
5 unit tests for the VDF/ACF parsing, tool filter, art URLs, custom mapping.
