fix(core/abi): bump ABI_VERSION to 13 for punktfunk_connection_send_pen
The pen P0 work added a new embeddable C entry point (punktfunk_connection_send_pen) but left ABI_VERSION at 12 — the value 0.18.0 shipped. Per the project's convention (0.18.0 bumped to 12 for the additive cursor channel), additive C-surface growth bumps the ABI so embedders can gate on the new symbol. Regenerated include/punktfunk_core.h via cbindgen (cargo build -p punktfunk-core); WIRE_VERSION is unchanged (pen is capability-gated on HOST_CAP_PEN). feat(core+host+driver+client): mid-stream cursor-render flip — host composites in the capture model
The cursor channel excluded the host pointer from the video for the whole session, but the client only draws it under the DESKTOP mouse model — flipping ⌃⌥⇧M to capture mid-stream left the session pointer-blind (user-found). The fix makes render ownership LIVE state: - wire: CursorRenderMode 0x51 (client→host, control stream) — client_draws: true = desktop model (host excludes + forwards), false = capture model / released (host composites, full fidelity — DWM on Windows incl. real XOR inversion, encoder blend on Linux). Sessions start client_draws=true (the pre-message behavior). - host: control task stores the flag; the encode loop edge-detects it — forwarding + frame.cursor strip while the client draws, quiet forwarder + overlay-into-blend while composited. SessionPlan now grants blend CAPABILITY wherever the capture has a pointer (dropping the !cursor_forward gate) so the composite side needs no encoder rebuild; per-tick frame.cursor decides what is drawn. - Windows: Capturer::set_cursor_forward → retained IOCTL_SET_CURSOR_FORWARD sender (proto v6) → driver (un)declares the IddCx hardware cursor on the LIVE monitor. Un-declare re-issues the setup with EMPTY caps (candidate mechanism — the DDI has no documented un-setup); resetup-on-commit is skipped while off, so a mode commit's software-cursor default is the fallback path. Failure against a pre-v6 driver logs and keeps declared-at-ADD behavior. - SDL client: one edge-detected reconciler at the cursor pump site — desktop-active = client draws; capture model or released = host composites. Covers the chord, the M3 auto-flip, and engage/release. - C ABI v12: punktfunk_connection_set_cursor_render (additive; wire version unchanged — pre-§8 hosts ignore the unknown message type). feat(apple): cursor channel on the Mac client — ABI v11 + NSCursor rendering
The Mac client now exercises the full cursor channel against capable hosts: desktop-mode sessions advertise CLIENT_CAP_CURSOR, the host stops compositing the pointer, and StreamView draws the forwarded shapes as the real NSCursor — plus the M3 host-driven model flip. - ABI v11: punktfunk_connect_ex9 (adds client_caps; ex7/ex8 pass 0 — Android untouched), PunktfunkCursorShape/State + the two next_cursor_* poll fns (audio-style borrow contract), and PUNKTFUNK_CLIENT_CAP_CURSOR. Fixed in passing: the first insertion split next_host_timing's cfg/no_mangle attributes off the fn, which silently dropped the symbol from the header AND dylib — caught by the Swift build, reattached with its docs. - PunktfunkConnection: clientCaps connect param, hostSupportsCursor, CursorShapeEvent/CursorStateEvent + nextCursorShape/nextCursorState (one cursor thread drains both planes; cursorLock joins the close() ladder). - SessionModel: desktop-mode sessions (DefaultsKey.mouseMode) connect with the cursor cap on macOS. - StreamView: shape cache (serial → NSCursor, straight-alpha RGBA via CGImage), resetCursorRects wears the HOST shape while the desktop model is engaged (hidden host pointer ⇒ invisible), latest-wins state pump, and the M3 auto-flip — edge-triggered on relative_hint, ⌃⌥⇧M sets an override latch cleared by the next host edge, leaving relative warps the pointer to the host position via the inverse letterbox mapping (CGWarpMouseCursorPosition, CursorCapture's coordinate convention). Verified: swift build + full test suites green (xcframework rebuilt at ABI v11, signed); core 218 tests + clippy -D warnings on Linux (.21). Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Second and final batch from the 2026-07-20 core-sweep lows: client: - connect() timeout now sets `quit` before shutdown, so a handshake that completes after the deadline closes with QUIT_CLOSE_CODE instead of leaving the host lingering (virtual display up) for a reconnect that never comes. - probe_result: saturating_add on the wire-supplied wire_packets + send_dropped counters (debug-build overflow panic / release wrap). - the standing-latency bleed no longer sets flush_in_window: that flag is the ABR's SEVERE (×0.7) verdict, and the bleed fires only on provably loss-free windows the controller itself scores as fine. clipboard: - fetch_cancels pruned on every new fetch (was: one dead oneshot per paste for the session). - serve chunks gated on a parked waiter + capped at CLIP_FETCH_CAP with an Error event (was: unbounded silent accumulation under any req_id). - serve_inbound park bounded by FETCH_STALL_SECS + send.stopped() (was: an unanswered FetchRequest parked the task, waiter, and bi-stream forever; ~100 of them exhaust the connection's bidi budget). C ABI (ABI_VERSION 9 → 10, header regenerated, additive only): - new punktfunk_connection_clock_offset_now_ns — the LIVE re-synced offset (Swift/Kotlin latency math read the frozen connect-time value ~40ms wrong after a wall-clock step). - to_config: checked u64→usize narrowing of max_frame_bytes (32-bit armeabi truncated >4GiB to a plausible residue). - host_poll_input: no &mut held across the embedder callback (re-entry aliased it — UB under noalias); mid-drain callback clears now stick. - next_audio_pcm: DTX (empty) payloads skipped — decode synthesized 120ms of concealment per 5ms slot and grew the playout ring forever. - next_clipboard releases the parked payload on an empty poll (a one-off 50MiB paste stayed resident all session). - frames_dropped / wants_decode_latency write their documented 0/false defaults before the NULL-handle check. - gamepad constant docs match pick_gamepad() reality (DualSenseEdge/ SwitchPro landed; DualSense/DS4 honored on Windows UMDF too). FEC: - gf8 reconstruct/reconstruct_into reuse the (k,m) codec cache like encode_into (was: fresh 230×200 generator + decode inversion per lossy block on the pump thread). - vendored fec-rs: the 8 safe wrap_mul_slice shims assert equal lengths (x86 SIMD callees bound stores on input.len() — safe-code OOB write); ReconstructShard's safety contract gains the len()==get().len() clause and reconstruct_internal sizes raw slices from the slice. transport/GTK: - Linux GSO super-buffer capped at the real UDP payload ceiling (65487) not 65535 — seg sizes ≥1024 could EMSGSIZE and latch GSO off process-wide, blamed on the network. - GTK settings dialog no longer rewrites an unlisted-but-valid stored gamepad preference to "auto" on close. Already fixed on main (verified stale, skipped): the reassembler FEC ceiling, wants_decode_latency's third term, request_probe rollback + the generalized probe watchdog. chore(core): fix build.rs + crate-doc drift left by the W7/W8 splits
- build.rs: drop the stale `rerun-if-changed=src/client.rs` (the file became client/ in W7; the path never fires). - lib.rs: the crate doc's module list named 6 of ~19 modules — add the missing ones (config/error/stats/input/reject/reanchor/render_scale/ audio/wol + the quic-gated control-plane group), without intra-doc links to feature-gated modules. - quic/mod.rs: the module doc still described the deleted `msgs` module; list the actual post-split module set. The two-pair investigation (wired Mac clients stuck at a rock-steady ~18-19 ms "network" that survived the load ending and cleared only on reconnect) exposed two structural gaps, one of measurement and one of recovery: - Receipt was stamped at the hand-off PULL (Swift nextAU, pf-client-core, Android decode loops), not at reassembly completion — so any client-side standing state between the reassembler and the pull read as NETWORK latency, undiagnosable from the HUD. ABI v9: `PunktfunkFrame`/`Frame` grow `received_ns`, stamped by `Session::poll_frame` as the AU crosses the session boundary. Every embedder now uses the core stamp; the Apple client keeps the pull instant as `AccessUnit.pulledNs` and shows the receipt→pull wait as its own "client queue" term (detailed HUD tier from 2 ms + a `queue_p50` stats-log field). Decode stages keep their pull anchor on all platforms, so no historical stage shifts meaning. - The jump-to-live detectors deliberately ignore anything under 6 queued frames / 400 ms behind — so a small, constant, loss-free elevation (a sub-frame standing backlog, or a stale clock offset after a wall-clock step/slew) is carried for the rest of the session. New third detector (`StandingLatency`, unit-tested ladder): window-MIN one-way delay ≥ 10 ms above the session floor with zero loss for ~4.5 s escalates gently — a free clock re-sync first (an applied re-sync re-bases the floor), then at most 3 flush+keyframe bleeds sharing the jump-to-live cooldown, then a loud disarm naming what it means. Loss windows reset the run: congestion belongs to FEC/ABR, not this detector. Also: mid-stream re-sync apply/discard logs debug→info — they are the forensic trail for the stale-offset case and were invisible in the field. feat(clients): render-scale setting on every client — shared punktfunk_core::render_scale
Client-side supersampling/downscaling: the client asks the host to render and encode at chosen-resolution × scale (the host does no scaling) and the presenter rescales the decoded frame to the display. >1 supersamples for sharpness; <1 lightens the host GPU and the link. Default 1.0 = Native, the prior behavior. The geometry lives once in punktfunk_core::render_scale (multiply, preserve aspect ratio, floor to even, clamp to the codec's per-axis ceiling — 4096 for H.264, 8192 otherwise), the Rust twin of the Apple client's RenderScale.swift, consumed by the native session client, the presenter's match-window path, the Windows/Linux settings UIs, Decky, and Android (settings + host connect + unit test). Implemented and platform-verified by the Apple-client-features session (Linux+Android+Apple green there); the punktfunk-core wiring (pub mod render_scale) is restored here after being lost in a working-tree reconciliation. feat(clipboard): wire protocol + client-core task for shared clipboard (Phase 0)
The portable shared-clipboard plane in punktfunk-core, all behind the `quic`
feature (design/clipboard-and-file-transfer.md §3):
- Control messages 0x40–0x44 (ClipControl / ClipOffer / ClipFetch...) and the
HOST_CAP_CLIPBOARD capability bit, negotiated in the Welcome caps.
- Per-transfer QUIC bi-streams ("PKFs" magic) for lazy fetch of offered content,
with ClipFetchHdr status/size framing (quic::clipstream).
- The §3.5 portable wire-MIME vocabulary (text/plain;utf-8, text/html, text/rtf,
image/png) shared by both ends.
- Client-side clipboard task (client.rs) + C ABI surface bumped to v8 (abi.rs,
regenerated include/punktfunk_core.h).
- Loopback transport tests (quic::tests).
No OS clipboard integration yet — that is the host backends (Phase 1/3) and the
macOS client (Phase 1).

refactor(core): consolidate the fingerprint-pinning verifier into core::tls
Per plan §2.5: the security-critical rustls fingerprint-pinning ServerCertVerifier was hand-rolled three times — quic/endpoint.rs (PinVerify), pf-client-core library.rs, punktfunk-tray status.rs — drifting copies on a trust boundary. Add one canonical punktfunk_core::tls::PinVerify (+ cert_fingerprint) behind a light `tls` feature (rustls + sha2 only, no QUIC runtime); `quic` now depends on it, and quic::endpoint re-exports cert_fingerprint so that path stays byte-stable (gamestream + pf-client-core reach it there). - core::tls::PinVerify: new(pin) for the HTTP clients, with_observed(pin, slot) for the QUIC TOFU connect. Behavior-identical to all three originals (pin-check + real CertificateVerify signature verification; only hashes the leaf when a pin or observed slot needs it). Two focused unit tests anchor the boundary. - quic/endpoint.rs: drop the private PinVerify, wire client_pinned through tls::PinVerify::with_observed. - pf-client-core library.rs + tray status.rs: use the shared verifier; tray also routes load_pin through core cert_fingerprint and drops its direct sha2 dep, gaining only the light core `tls` feature (still no host dep, no QUIC runtime). Verified on Linux (home-worker-5): clippy 0/0 for core(quic), core(tls), pf-client-core, tray, host(nvenc,vulkan-encode,pyrowave); core 153 lib tests + loopback 7/7 (pinned handshake) + c_abi round-trip green. A host's pairing-gate rejections (not armed / bound to another device /
rate-limited / identity required / denied / approval timeout / superseded /
wire-version mismatch) used to drop the connection with a bare code-0 close,
and every client collapsed that — plus plain unreachability — into one
"wrong PIN / not accepted" message. A dead network path, a disarmed host,
and an operator denial were indistinguishable, which is exactly the
misdiagnosis behind the recent Android pairing support thread.
- core: new ungated `reject` module — shared close-code block 0x60–0x67
(+ 0x42 busy promoted from the host), `RejectReason`, and
`PunktfunkError::Rejected`; `pair()`/`connect()` decode the host's
ApplicationClosed code into `Rejected` instead of a generic Io error.
C ABI v7: status block −20…−28 and `punktfunk_connect_ex8` (`status_out`
reports the failure cause; NULL-return alone can't). Wire unchanged —
old peers see exactly the old bare close.
- host: every gate rejection `conn.close()`s with its typed code (and the
human reason as close bytes) before erroring out of the session task.
- pf-client-core: shared `pair_error_message`/`connect_reject_message`
wording consumed by the Windows + Linux + console-UI + CLI surfaces; a
connect failure now renders the host's stated reason.
- android: `nativeTakeLastError()` JNI token + `ConnectErrors.kt` — a
network timeout is no longer reported as "wrong PIN, or the host isn't
armed", and a typed rejection skips the wake-and-wait fallback (the host
is demonstrably awake).
- apple: `HostRejection` + `.rejected`; the pair sheet and session alerts
show the stated reason; connect moves to `ex8`.

feat(client): freeze-until-reanchor loss recovery on Android + Apple via shared core gate
After unrecoverable loss the host keeps sending delta frames that reference a picture the client never received; hardware decoders conceal these as gray/ garbage with a success status. Linux already withheld them and held the last good frame until a proven clean re-anchor — this brings that behavior to the Android and Apple clients. Extract the Linux pump's freeze state machine into a shared `ReanchorGate` in punktfunk-core (reanchor.rs, 18 tests) exposed over the C ABI (ABI v6, additive — no wire change) for the Swift clients. Migrate the Linux/Deck pump (pf-client-core) onto it as the parity proof (no-op refactor). Then wire: - Android (decode.rs, both sync + async loops): arm on the frame-index gap, a pts-keyed flag map carries the wire flags to the output-buffer release, fold the gate per drained output, gate.poll replaces the dropped-climb block. - Apple Stage2Pipeline (default): arm on a gap (new noteFrameIndexGap), withhold at the ring-submit seam (CAMetalLayer holds its last drawable), poll framesDropped, fold VT decode errors through the no-output streak. - Apple StreamPump (stage-1): fold at enqueue, withhold via kCMSampleAttachmentKey_DoNotDisplay so the layer keeps decoding (reference chain intact) but holds the last displayed frame. - Apple VideoDecoder: thread the AU's wire flags to the async decode callback via a retained FrameContext refcon (replaces the receivedNs bit-pattern scalar). Lifts only on a proven re-anchor (IDR / RFI anchor / 2nd recovery mark) with a 500 ms backstop so a lost re-anchor can never freeze forever. Apple: swift build clean, 123/123 tests pass (incl. VideoToolboxRoundTripTests). On-glass loss-injection validation still owed. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(rumble): host-authoritative self-terminating envelopes (0xCA v2)
Rumble was level-triggered, unbounded state on a lossy channel: a non-zero level meant "buzz until further notice", healed only by the host re-sending state every 500 ms, and every client guessed when the host had died with its own magic timeout (SDL 1.5 s, Apple 1.6 s, Android up to 60 s). A lost stop, a reordered start, or a dead host could drone the motor for seconds. Make "stuck rumble" inexpressible on the wire. The 0xCA datagram grows a length-tolerant tail — [u8 seq][u16 ttl_ms] — so it self-terminates: the host authorizes a level for at most ttl_ms and renews it (~120 ms) while it holds, letting an abandoned one lapse client-side. seq is a per-pad wrapping reorder gate (reusing GamepadSnapshot::seq_newer) so a reordered stale start can't re-light a stopped motor. Decoders read the first 7 bytes as a plain level and ignore the tail, so no wire-version bump: an old client renders a new host's levels, and a new client falls back to its prior staleness heuristic against an old host (ttl = None). All four generation pairings render correctly. - core: encode_rumble_datagram_v2 / decode_rumble_envelope (datagram.rs); the client demux applies the seq gate then forwards (pad, low, high, Option<ttl>); next_rumble is unchanged (drops ttl), next_rumble_ttl keeps it; ABI adds punktfunk_connection_next_rumble2 + PUNKTFUNK_RUMBLE_NO_TTL, ABI_VERSION 4->5 (WIRE_VERSION unchanged — the tail is backward-compatible). - host (punktfunk1.rs): the flat 500 ms refresh becomes a renewal loop that bumps seq + stamps a fresh TTL on active pads and drains a short post-stop zero burst, then goes quiet. Hatches: PUNKTFUNK_RUMBLE_ENVELOPE=0 (legacy v1 + flat refresh, a bisect switch), PUNKTFUNK_RUMBLE_TTL_MS (clamped [150, 5000]). - renderers honor the TTL as their playback duration/deadline and keep their old heuristic only for a legacy (ttl=None) update: pf-client-core (the Deck haptic keep-alive is now deadline-bounded so it can't sustain a host-stopped rumble), clients/windows (SDL duration), android (JNI packs the lease out-of-band in bit 48 so any u16 ttl is unambiguous; Kotlin createOneShot(ttl)), apple (RumbleRenderer.envelopeDeadline + nextRumble2; sessionStaleSeconds demoted to the legacy fallback). - tests: codec round-trip + tail tolerance + seq-gate reorder (Rust); the probe asserts the v2 tail arrived under PUNKTFUNK_TEST_FEEDBACK; the Apple loopback asserts ttlMs round-trips end to end; RumbleTuning lease-decision cases. The host-side idle-timeout from the previous commit is defense in depth on the game side; this is the guarantee on the client side. Design: punktfunk-planning/design/rumble-envelope-plan.md. feat(core,host): adaptive bitrate — mid-stream encoder re-targeting when set to Automatic
New SetBitrate (0x05) / BitrateChanged (0x06) control messages: the host clamps like the Hello request, acks the resolved rate, and rebuilds the ENCODER ONLY in place (same mode, first new-rate frame is an IDR — the proven mode-switch resync, minus the pipeline churn). The client side is an AIMD controller (core abr.rs) in the data-plane pump, armed only when the user's bitrate is Automatic (Hello bitrate_kbps == 0): ×0.7 after two bad 750 ms windows (FEC-unrecoverable frames, ≥2% loss, one-way-delay rise above its rolling baseline — the pre-loss bufferbloat signal off the clock-skew handshake — or a jump-to-live flush), ~+6% after ~10 s clean, ceiling = the session's starting rate, 3 s cooldown, self-disables against a host that never acks (older build). Division of labour: adaptive FEC keeps answering fast random loss; bitrate now answers persistent congestion, closing the FEC death-spiral gap. The web-console sample reports the live rate. Also: join_host_port() brackets bare IPv6 literals before SocketAddr parsing (parse-side IPv6 groundwork, pairs with the next commit). Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Add a bounded, trust-agnostic, mDNS-INDEPENDENT QUIC reachability probe and surface it everywhere saved-host presence is shown, so a host reached over a routed network (Tailscale/VPN/multicast-filtering LAN) no longer reads Offline just because it isn't advertising — the display-side companion to the 0.8.4 dial-first connect fix. Core: - punktfunk-core: NativeClient::probe (bounded handshake; a real host answers even on trust mismatch, a wrong/closed/TCP-only port fails) + punktfunk_probe C ABI (ABI_VERSION 3->4, header regenerated). - pf-client-core: trust::probe_reachable_many (parallel per-host sweep). Presence pips now read `advertising OR probed-reachable`, refreshed by a ~10-12s background sweep off the UI thread: - Linux (relm4): ui_hosts probed map + HostsMsg::Probed sweep. - Windows (windows-reactor): pf-probe worker -> HostsProps.probed. - Apple (SwiftUI): HostStore.refreshReachability, driven by HomeView + GamepadHomeView .task. - Android (Compose): nativeProbe JNI seam + periodic LaunchedEffect (LNP-gated), online dot added to the touch HostCard. - Decky already probes via --list-hosts --probe. Decky client: make the flatpak client's known-hosts store the single source of truth via new headless CLI modes (--list-hosts / --add-host / --set-host / --forget-host / --reset / --reachable). The plugin can now add a host by address, edit/forget hosts, reset all state (keeping the client identity), and shows probe-backed online pips — state is shared with the desktop client, not duplicated. Also lands in-progress Android 17 LNP groundwork (targetSdk 37 + ACCESS_LOCAL_NETWORK runtime flow, permission dialogs) that was already present in the working tree. Verified: cargo check + clippy clean (punktfunk-core, pf-client-core, linux, android native); android assembleDebug BUILD SUCCESSFUL; decky typecheck + rollup build clean; probe true/false-positive behaviour exercised against a live host. Windows and Apple were not compiled locally (no MSVC/Xcode on this Linux box). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(core): split WIRE_VERSION from ABI_VERSION — new clients locked out of every deployed host
ABI_VERSION was doing double duty: the embeddable C surface AND the punktfunk/1
Hello/Welcome version that hosts equality-check. The WoL feature's v3 bump added
a client-local FFI function without changing a single wire byte — and every new
client started refusing against every deployed host ("ABI mismatch: client 3
host 2", observed live Deck → Bazzite). The wire now carries its own
WIRE_VERSION (still 2); ABI_VERSION stays 3 for the C header and the mgmt API's
informational field. Bump WIRE_VERSION only when the handshake/planes actually
change incompatibly.

feat(core,host): Wake-on-LAN sender + host MAC advertisement
Add a runtime-free Wake-on-LAN sender in punktfunk-core (per-interface subnet-directed broadcast + 255.255.255.255 on ports 9/7, repeated, optional last-known-IP unicast) exposed both as a Rust fn and a punktfunk_wake_on_lan C-ABI (ABI v3), plus a parse_mac helper. The host enumerates its wake-capable NIC MAC(s) and advertises them in a new mDNS `mac` TXT record (routed NIC first), and best-effort detects & warns (never modifies) when the NIC isn't armed for WoL. MAC delivery is via the unauthenticated mDNS TXT rather than the connection handshake by design: a spoofed MAC only makes a wake fail (the packet is inert; the cert fingerprint still gates the connection), and it avoids threading through the hot connect path. feat(audio): end-to-end 5.1/7.1 surround across the native path + all clients
Adds negotiated 5.1/7.1 surround to the punktfunk/1 protocol and every client (previously stereo-only): - core: new shared `audio` layout table (LAYOUT_51/71 + identity multistream mapping, canonical wire order FL FR FC LFE RL RR SL SR); Hello/Welcome `audio_channels` negotiation via the trailing-byte back-compat pattern (old peers fall back to stereo); C-ABI `punktfunk_connect_ex6`, `punktfunk_connection_audio_channels`, and in-core multistream decode `punktfunk_connection_next_audio_pcm` for embedders without a multistream Opus decoder. Real-libopus channel-identity round-trip test. - host: native audio thread captures + Opus-(multi)stream-encodes at the negotiated count (with a cross-session cached-capturer channel-mismatch fix); GameStream surround unified onto the safe `opus::MSEncoder`, dropping `audiopus_sys` (~4 unsafe blocks) and un-gating Windows GameStream surround; WASAPI loopback capture relaxed to 2/6/8 with the correct dwChannelMask. - clients: Linux (PipeWire), Windows (WASAPI), Android (AAudio) decode via `opus::MSDecoder` + render multichannel; Apple decodes in-core to PCM → AVAudioEngine with an explicit wire-order channel layout; each gains a Stereo/5.1/7.1 setting. `punktfunk-probe --audio-channels N` is the headless validator. Verified on Linux: core/host/linux/probe test suites + the Android Rust (cargo-ndk) build, clippy -D warnings, and rustfmt all green. Windows/Apple builds, all on-glass checks, and the live native loopback are pending (CI / a free box). Also lands the concurrent in-tree HEVC 4:4:4 host work (PUNKTFUNK_444): it shares the same touched files (quic.rs, punktfunk1.rs, encode/*, ...) and so cannot be committed separately from the surround changes. feat: client-selectable compositor (protocol → host → client → C ABI → mgmt → web)
A client can now request which compositor backend the host drives its virtual
output on (gamescope/KWin/Mutter/wlroots). The host honors the request if that
backend is available, else falls back to auto-detect and reports the resolved
choice back — wire-compatible both directions (no ABI bump).
Protocol (punktfunk-core):
- New CompositorPref (config.rs): Auto|Kwin|Wlroots|Mutter|Gamescope with
u8/name mappings. Appended as one optional byte to Hello (client preference)
and Welcome (host's resolved choice). Both decoders already tolerate trailing
bytes, so old↔new interop is preserved — ABI_VERSION stays 2. Round-trip +
back-compat (truncated-message) tests.
- C ABI: punktfunk_connect_ex(compositor) + PUNKTFUNK_COMPOSITOR_* constants;
punktfunk_connect delegates with AUTO, so the existing symbol is unchanged.
NativeClient::connect / worker_main thread the preference through.
Host:
- vdisplay::available() enumerates usable backends via cheap, side-effect-free
probes (KWin zkde global, gamescope binary+version, GNOME/Sway env), plus
Compositor id/label/as_pref/from_pref/all helpers.
- m3 handshake resolves the preference to a concrete backend during the
handshake (pick_compositor pure + resolved logging), reports it in Welcome,
and threads it into virtual_stream (replacing the unconditional detect()).
- mgmt GET /v1/compositors lists every backend with availability + the
auto-detected default (OpenAPI regenerated).
Client:
- punktfunk-client-rs --compositor NAME; logs the host's resolved choice from
the Welcome ("session offer … compositor=…").
Web console:
- Host page gains a Compositors card (availability + default badges) via the
codegen'd useListCompositors hook; en/de strings added.
Also fixes a pre-existing, env-dependent test-isolation bug:
mgmt::tests::paired_clients_list_and_unpair seeded the real
~/.config/punktfunk/paired.json (AppState::new loads it), so a real
GameStream-paired client leaked into body[0] on a dev box — now cleared first.
Live-validated against headless KWin: --compositor kwin honored, --compositor
mutter falls back to kwin (available=[kwin, gamescope]), resolved choice
round-trips to the client. Tests: +6 (wire/back-compat, resolution precedence,
endpoint); workspace green, clippy/fmt clean, C ABI harness PASS at abi_version=2,
web typecheck + build clean.

fix(punktfunk/1): adversarial-review fixes — SPAKE2 pairing, renegotiation hardening, +more
Triaged the multi-agent review of the renegotiation + pairing + Sway + AV1/surround batch
(1 critical, 11 major/minor confirmed). Fixes:
CRITICAL — PIN pairing was offline-brute-forceable. The HMAC-of-PIN proof let an active
MITM who terminates the TOFU ceremony recover the 4-digit PIN by offline dictionary search
(all other inputs observable) and forge a correctly-bound proof. Replaced with **SPAKE2**
(balanced PAKE, `spake2` crate) + key-confirmation MACs, binding both cert fingerprints as
the SPAKE2 identities: an attacker gets exactly ONE online guess, no offline search, and
mismatched cert views (a real MITM) never reach a shared key. Also reworked the UX to an
"arming PIN" — one PIN per arming window shown at host startup (the SPAKE2 client needs the
PIN to build its first message, so it can't be minted per-connection). Validated live:
wrong PIN rejected in 0.1s, right PIN pairs + persists + the paired identity streams.
Pairing hardening: `--allow-pairing`/`--require-pairing` must arm pairing (default rejects
unsolicited ceremonies); per-host cooldown bounds online guessing; the client flushes its
CONNECTION_CLOSE so a refused ceremony can't wedge the sequential host for the full timeout;
atomic (temp+rename) paired-store writes.
Protocol: control/pairing messages use a distinct CTL_MAGIC (PKFc) — fully disjoint from
the positional Hello namespace (a future abi_version can't be misparsed as a control
message); all typed decodes are length-exact. ABI_VERSION → 2 (punktfunk_connect signature
gained the identity params; header regenerated).
Renegotiation: drain the reconfig channel to the NEWEST mode (one rebuild, not one per
stale step); validate refresh_hz; build the new pipeline BEFORE dropping the old so a
rebuild failure keeps the session on its current mode instead of killing it.
GameStream: packetDuration snaps to {5,10} (an in-between value isn't a legal Opus frame
size and would kill audio). Sway: chooser file moved to $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR (was a fixed
world-writable /tmp path — DoS / capture-misdirection by another local user).
Swift: fixed two compile breakers in the new pairing/identity APIs (Int32 status .rawValue,
UInt cap cast). New SPAKE2 + namespace-disjointness + pairing-roundtrip unit tests; the
in-process pairing test now also exercises the arming PIN + cooldown. 114 tests green,
clippy -D warnings clean (both feature sets), fmt, C-ABI harness.

rename: lumen → punktfunk, everywhere
Full project rename, decided 2026-06-10: - Crates/binaries: punktfunk-core / punktfunk-host / punktfunk-client-rs. - C ABI: punktfunk_* symbols, Punktfunk* types, include/punktfunk_core.h, PUNKTFUNK_FEATURE_QUIC guard (header regenerated; cbindgen renames updated, incl. PUNKTFUNK_BTN_*/PUNKTFUNK_AXIS_* wire constants). - Protocol: punktfunk/1 — control-plane magic LMN1 → PKF1, nonce salt lmn1 → pkf1. WIRE BREAK: clients must be rebuilt from this revision. - Env knobs: PUNKTFUNK_VIDEO_SOURCE / PUNKTFUNK_COMPOSITOR / PUNKTFUNK_ZEROCOPY / …. - Host config dir: ~/.config/punktfunk (the box's dir was migrated in place — the persistent identity is unchanged, pinned fingerprints stay valid). - Swift package: PunktfunkKit + PunktfunkCore.xcframework + PunktfunkConnection (Sources/PunktfunkClient app + tests renamed with it); build-xcframework.sh updated. - scripts/: 60-punktfunk.rules, punktfunk-host.service; OpenAPI doc regenerated. Also: scripts/headless/run-headless-kde.sh — full headless Plasma bringup. Root cause of "desktop but no apps/settings" over the stream: plasmashell launched without XDG_MENU_PREFIX=plasma-, so the launcher resolved a nonexistent applications.menu and rendered an empty menu. The script sets the complete KDE session env (menu prefix, KDE_FULL_SESSION, session version) and rebuilds ksycoca before starting plasmashell. Gate: 97/97 tests, clippy -D warnings (both feature sets), fmt, C-ABI harness PASS, zero lumen references left outside .git. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |
