The mid-stream clock re-sync starved on high-bitrate LAN sessions (2026-07
PyroWave-sawtooth field report, RX 9070 XT -> 780M @ 550 Mb/s): every batch
was judged against the CONNECT-TIME RTT, measured before the video data
plane existed, with a 2 ms floor — mid-stream control RTTs on a loaded GbE
link sit above that almost permanently, so batches were rejected for
minutes while the wall clocks drifted apart and the OSD e2e figure ramped
19->150 ms before snapping back on a lucky batch.

Three changes:
- Rounds are spaced 7 ms apart (stamped at send time, so the spacing never
  lands in the RTT). An 8-round batch used to complete inside ONE ~6 ms
  video burst — all rounds sampled the same congestion state; spacing walks
  them across the frame cycle so the min-RTT round finds a quiet gap.
- ResyncGuard replaces the static baseline: the guard band follows the best
  RTT the session has evidenced (connect RTT, then min over every completed
  batch — rejected ones included).
- Rejection streaks are bounded: after 3 consecutive rejections the best
  (min-RTT) batch of the streak is applied anyway. Its queueing bias is at
  most ~half its RTT; unbounded wall-clock drift costs more per minute.

Rejections now log at warn with the streak and floor — the starvation
signature is grep-able in exactly the logs users send.

enricobuehlerandClaude Fable 5 aca5aa9993 feat(host+inject): pen P1 — per-session uinput virtual tablet, HOST_CAP_PEN live
The Linux injection leg of design/pen-tablet-input.md: 0xCC/0x05 pen batches now
route through the per-session PenTracker into a lazily-created 'Punktfunk Pen'
uinput tablet (BTN_TOOL_PEN/RUBBER, pressure, tilt-from-polar, ABS_Z barrel
roll, hover distance, INPUT_PROP_DIRECT) — compositors pick it up via libinput
and hand apps zwp_tablet_v2 with full fidelity. The host now advertises
HOST_CAP_PEN when /dev/uinput is accessible (PUNKTFUNK_PEN=0 kill-switch);
transitions group into SYN frames so proximity-enter carries its position.
Stroke failsafe: clients heartbeat ≤100ms while in range (documented wire
contract — capture APIs are silent for a stationary pen); 200ms of silence
force-releases. 'punktfunk-host pen-test' draws a pressure-ramped sine stroke
through the real tracker→uinput chain, no client needed.

The pen plane from design/pen-tablet-input.md, protocol side only (the P1 uinput
tablet injector will consume it): 0xCC kind 0x05 carries batches of state-full
PenSamples (pressure, polar tilt + azimuth, barrel roll, hover distance, eraser
tool, barrel buttons); PenTracker diffs samples into injector transitions so a
lost datagram self-heals; HOST_CAP_PEN (0x10) gates sending and stays
unadvertised until a real backend exists. C ABI: PunktfunkPenSample +
punktfunk_connection_send_pen, documented in docs/embedding-the-c-abi.md §8.

enricobuehlerandClaude Opus 4.8 92761813a9 feat(core+host+driver+client): mid-stream cursor-render flip — host composites in the capture model
The cursor channel excluded the host pointer from the video for the
whole session, but the client only draws it under the DESKTOP mouse
model — flipping ⌃⌥⇧M to capture mid-stream left the session
pointer-blind (user-found). The fix makes render ownership LIVE state:

- wire: CursorRenderMode 0x51 (client→host, control stream) —
  client_draws: true = desktop model (host excludes + forwards),
  false = capture model / released (host composites, full fidelity —
  DWM on Windows incl. real XOR inversion, encoder blend on Linux).
  Sessions start client_draws=true (the pre-message behavior).
- host: control task stores the flag; the encode loop edge-detects it —
  forwarding + frame.cursor strip while the client draws, quiet
  forwarder + overlay-into-blend while composited. SessionPlan now
  grants blend CAPABILITY wherever the capture has a pointer (dropping
  the !cursor_forward gate) so the composite side needs no encoder
  rebuild; per-tick frame.cursor decides what is drawn.
- Windows: Capturer::set_cursor_forward → retained
  IOCTL_SET_CURSOR_FORWARD sender (proto v6) → driver (un)declares the
  IddCx hardware cursor on the LIVE monitor. Un-declare re-issues the
  setup with EMPTY caps (candidate mechanism — the DDI has no
  documented un-setup); resetup-on-commit is skipped while off, so a
  mode commit's software-cursor default is the fallback path. Failure
  against a pre-v6 driver logs and keeps declared-at-ADD behavior.
- SDL client: one edge-detected reconciler at the cursor pump site —
  desktop-active = client draws; capture model or released = host
  composites. Covers the chord, the M3 auto-flip, and engage/release.
- C ABI v12: punktfunk_connection_set_cursor_render (additive; wire
  version unchanged — pre-§8 hosts ignore the unknown message type).

enricobuehlerandClaude Fable 5 4a01bc4463 feat(core+host+client): cursor channel — remote-desktop sweep M2a+M2b
The host cursor stops riding the video and becomes a real OS cursor on
the client (the Parsec/RDP model): pointer feel no longer pays the
capture→encode→network→decode→present round trip.

Wire (M2a):
- Hello grows a client_caps trailing byte (CLIENT_CAP_CURSOR) after the
  fixed display_hdr block — presence disambiguated by remaining length,
  which caps the post-HDR tail at 27 bytes (documented); Welcome answers
  HOST_CAP_CURSOR (capable-and-asked, the 444/clipboard precedent).
- CursorShape (0x50, control stream): serial + dims + hotspot + straight
  RGBA, ≤120px/side so the u16 frame always fits (128² would overshoot);
  client caches by serial — re-showing a known shape costs 14 bytes, not
  a bitmap (RDP pointer-cache for free).
- CursorState (0xD0 datagram): serial + visible/relative_hint flags +
  position, sent once per encode-loop tick — latest-wins, self-healing
  under loss, no refresh timer. relative_hint is reserved for M3.
- Client core: two new planes (control-task + datagram-task arms) →
  next_cursor_shape/next_cursor_state; connect() grows client_caps
  (C ABI passes 0 until the v11 cursor poll fns exist).

Host (M2b, Linux portal only):
- handshake::cursor_forward is THE predicate (client asked ∧ Linux ∧
  compositor ≠ gamescope) — Welcome bit and session wiring both read it.
- SessionPlan.cursor_blend goes false for a forwarding session; the
  encode loop ticks a CursorForwarder every iteration: shape-serial diff
  → control-task bridge (mirrors probe_result), state datagram → conn.
- CursorOverlay/capture CursorState carry the hotspot through
  (nearest-neighbor downscale backstop for XL cursors, unit-tested).

Presenter:
- CursorChannel drains both planes per loop iteration; shapes become
  SDL color cursors (from_surface + hotspot), applied while the desktop
  mouse model is engaged; visibility follows the host; capture/released
  hands back the system cursor. Sessions advertise the cap when they
  START in desktop mode.

Verified on .21: fmt + clippy -D warnings (7 crates) + tests green
(core 218 incl. new wire roundtrips, host 245 incl. e2e + forwarder
downscale tests).

enricobuehlerandClaude Fable 5 abe6228b42 feat(core+host+android): committed-text input plane (IME path) — InputKind::TextInput
The VK key-event vocabulary cannot express text an input method COMMITS
(autocorrect, gesture typing, non-Latin scripts, emoji). Add a first-class
text event and negotiate it:

- punktfunk-core: InputKind::TextInput (= 15) carries one Unicode scalar per
  event in `code`; HOST_CAP_TEXT_INPUT (0x04) in Welcome::host_caps.
- Host advertises the cap only where the session's inject backend can type
  text: Windows SendInput (KEYEVENTF_UNICODE, surrogate-pair aware) and the
  Linux wlroots backend — a dedicated second zwp_virtual_keyboard whose xkb
  keymap grows Unicode keysyms on demand (the wtype model), so keymap
  re-uploads never disturb the main device's layout/modifier state. The
  KWin-fake-input/libei/gamescope backends can only press layout keycodes, so
  those sessions don't set the bit and clients keep the VK fallback.
- GameStream plane: Moonlight's UTF-8 text packet (MAGIC_UTF8, previously
  recognized-and-dropped) now decodes to the same TextInput events.
- Android: KeyCaptureView picks a real editable InputConnection when the host
  has the cap — the IME runs its full machinery, mirrored to the host live via
  common-prefix diffs of the composition (backspaces + new suffix), with
  setComposingRegion adopting committed text so autocorrect-revert flows diff
  instead of retyping; newline→Enter, deleteSurroundingText→Backspace/Delete.
  Older hosts keep the TYPE_NULL raw-key path unchanged.
- keymap: media VKs (0xB0-0xB3) → evdev so the Android media keys land on
  Linux hosts too.

Verified: punktfunk-core + host gamestream + pf-inject tests green on Linux
(Ubuntu box), clippy clean; Android app+native builds.

Lifts the ~100 Mbps decrypt ceiling on clients without hardware AES — the
armv7 soft-AES targets (webOS TVs), where AES-128-GCM resolves to fixsliced
software AES + software GHASH (~50-100 cpb) while ChaCha20-Poly1305's ARX
construction runs ~10-17 cpb portable, a 4-7x lift that PyroWave-on-TV needs
(design/chacha20-session-cipher.md).

Phase 1 (core crypto, no wire change): SessionKey merges cipher choice and
key material (invalid combinations unrepresentable, zeroize + redacted-Debug
discipline kept); SessionCrypto dispatches both aead-0.5 ciphers per call —
the salt||seq nonce scheme, per-direction salts, seq-as-AAD and replay
window carry over verbatim (same 96-bit nonce / 16-byte tag, const-asserted).
Config.key becomes SessionKey; validate's zero-key rejection follows the
active variant. The C ABI keeps its fixed 16-byte key mapped to AES — no
ABI_VERSION bump.

Phase 2 (negotiation): VIDEO_CAP_CHACHA20 (0x40) — support-plus-request in
one bit, the VIDEO_CAP_444 precedent. Welcome grows cipher@68 +
key_chacha@69..101, emitted only when non-zero so an AES session's Welcome
stays byte-identical to the pre-cipher form; decode is fail-closed (short
key or unknown id -> Err, never a silent AES fallback). No WIRE_VERSION
bump; downgrade resistance inherited from the pinned-TLS control channel.

Phase 3 (host): grant only when the client advertised the bit and the
PUNKTFUNK_CHACHA20 kill-switch (default on, documented) allows; fresh
32-byte per-session key from the same RNG discipline, legacy key field
stays independently random; resolved cipher logged at session start.

Verification: seal/open suites parameterized over both ciphers + a
cross-cipher tamper case; Welcome roundtrip/truncation/fail-closed tests;
ChaCha lossy-loopback soak (loss/replay is cipher-independent); bench
gains _chacha20 series (AES ids unchanged for CI history) — host-side
sealing line-rate-trivial on both x86 (~640 MiB/s) and Apple Silicon
(~535 MiB/s). punktfunk-probe drives the interop matrix via
PUNKTFUNK_CLIENT_CHACHA20=1 and logs the negotiated cipher.

Phase 4 (pf-webos pin bump + unconditional cap bit) follows the next
core release.

enricobuehlerandClaude Fable 5 c5402cb1f7 feat(core+host): LN1 phase-2 — VIDEO_CAP_STREAMED_AU streamed access units
The wire half of sub-frame slice output (latency §7 LN1, planning
design/nvenc-subframe-slice-output.md Phase 2): toward a client that
advertises the new cap bit (0x20), a chunked-poll encoder session ships each
AU's completed FEC blocks while the tail of the frame is still encoding —
the AU's last packet leaves the host as the encode finishes instead of
after it.

Wire semantics (negotiated; zero change for anyone else):
- Non-final blocks ride SENTINEL headers: block_count = 0 (a value no legacy
  sender emits) + frame_bytes = 0 + exactly max_data_per_block data shards,
  so the receiver's shard-offset formula needs no total.
- The final block's headers carry the real frame_bytes/block_count (+
  FLAG_EOF) and RETRO-VALIDATE the whole frame: totals under which a
  received sentinel block is out of range or not full-K kill the frame
  wholesale (no spliced delivery) and the index can't be resurrected.
- Firewall: sentinels are bounded by the negotiated limits (full-K exactly,
  never the last block the limits allow, no total to lie about); the exact
  derived-geometry check runs unchanged on every non-sentinel packet and
  retroactively at pinning. Sentinel opens commit a max_frame_bytes buffer,
  bounded by the existing IN_FLIGHT_BUF_FACTOR budget (amplification test).
- Order-agnostic like legacy: a reversed frame (final block first) opens
  legacy-shaped and still accepts its sentinels against the pinned totals.
- Small/empty streamed AUs degenerate to byte-identical legacy headers.

Host: Packetizer::{begin,push,finish}_streamed seal full-K blocks (data +
parity per block) as chunks arrive; Session::seal_streamed_* share the
pooled-wire + two-lane seal machinery via the new seal_run; the send thread
paces each flush under the frame's existing deadline (pace_sealed split out
of paced_submit) and runs the whole-AU accounting at the last chunk; the
encode pump forwards poll_chunk output as ChunkMsg when the client has the
cap AND the encoder chunks (re-queried per AU — an escalation falls back
seamlessly). Probes never run mid-AU. PUNKTFUNK_STREAMED_AU=0 = host escape
hatch. Client core ORs the cap into Hello (the shared reassembler carries
the support). Sampled first_slice_us vs encode_us PERF log measures the
overlap; the 0xCF stage-field extension stays a follow-up.

Core tests: streamed round-trip (clean/loss/reorder/duplicate, both orders),
sentinel firewall bounds, lying-final wholesale kill + no-resurrect,
open-amplification budget, header-shape pins. Gates still owed before
default-on: security review pass, loss-harness curve, GameStream smoke
(plane untouched structurally), bitrate A/B.

Second and final batch from the 2026-07-20 core-sweep lows:

client:
- connect() timeout now sets `quit` before shutdown, so a handshake that
  completes after the deadline closes with QUIT_CLOSE_CODE instead of
  leaving the host lingering (virtual display up) for a reconnect that
  never comes.
- probe_result: saturating_add on the wire-supplied wire_packets +
  send_dropped counters (debug-build overflow panic / release wrap).
- the standing-latency bleed no longer sets flush_in_window: that flag
  is the ABR's SEVERE (×0.7) verdict, and the bleed fires only on
  provably loss-free windows the controller itself scores as fine.

clipboard:
- fetch_cancels pruned on every new fetch (was: one dead oneshot per
  paste for the session).
- serve chunks gated on a parked waiter + capped at CLIP_FETCH_CAP with
  an Error event (was: unbounded silent accumulation under any req_id).
- serve_inbound park bounded by FETCH_STALL_SECS + send.stopped() (was:
  an unanswered FetchRequest parked the task, waiter, and bi-stream
  forever; ~100 of them exhaust the connection's bidi budget).

C ABI (ABI_VERSION 9 → 10, header regenerated, additive only):
- new punktfunk_connection_clock_offset_now_ns — the LIVE re-synced
  offset (Swift/Kotlin latency math read the frozen connect-time value
  ~40ms wrong after a wall-clock step).
- to_config: checked u64→usize narrowing of max_frame_bytes (32-bit
  armeabi truncated >4GiB to a plausible residue).
- host_poll_input: no &mut held across the embedder callback (re-entry
  aliased it — UB under noalias); mid-drain callback clears now stick.
- next_audio_pcm: DTX (empty) payloads skipped — decode synthesized
  120ms of concealment per 5ms slot and grew the playout ring forever.
- next_clipboard releases the parked payload on an empty poll (a one-off
  50MiB paste stayed resident all session).
- frames_dropped / wants_decode_latency write their documented 0/false
  defaults before the NULL-handle check.
- gamepad constant docs match pick_gamepad() reality (DualSenseEdge/
  SwitchPro landed; DualSense/DS4 honored on Windows UMDF too).

FEC:
- gf8 reconstruct/reconstruct_into reuse the (k,m) codec cache like
  encode_into (was: fresh 230×200 generator + decode inversion per
  lossy block on the pump thread).
- vendored fec-rs: the 8 safe wrap_mul_slice shims assert equal lengths
  (x86 SIMD callees bound stores on input.len() — safe-code OOB write);
  ReconstructShard's safety contract gains the len()==get().len()
  clause and reconstruct_internal sizes raw slices from the slice.

transport/GTK:
- Linux GSO super-buffer capped at the real UDP payload ceiling (65487)
  not 65535 — seg sizes ≥1024 could EMSGSIZE and latch GSO off
  process-wide, blamed on the network.
- GTK settings dialog no longer rewrites an unlisted-but-valid stored
  gamepad preference to "auto" on close.

Already fixed on main (verified stale, skipped): the reassembler FEC
ceiling, wants_decode_latency's third term, request_probe rollback +
the generalized probe watchdog.

From the 2026-07-20 punktfunk-core quality sweep's adjudicated lows
(~/punktfunk-sweeps/punktfunk-core-2026-07-20.json), each with a
regression test:

- session: the two-lane seal's dead-worker fallback dropped the frame's
  back half and returned Ok with half an access unit; the corpse lane
  was also never respawned. The send-failure arm now reclaims the tail
  (single-lane seals the WHOLE frame) and both failure arms drop the
  lane so the next large frame respawns it. A recv-side death now
  surfaces as an error instead of silent truncation.
- reassemble: Reassembler::reset() left pending_partial parked, so a
  pre-flush stale partial survived Session::flush_backlog and was
  delivered as the first "frame" after a jump-to-live.
- caps: resolve_codec echoed a non-conformant multi-bit preferred byte
  verbatim (downstream from_wire folds it to HEVC — possibly outside
  the shared set). It now isolates one bit of the intersection.
- endpoint: stream_transport_idle only floored the value; an absurd
  operator-supplied idle timeout blew past QUIC's VarInt ms ceiling and
  panicked host startup through the expect. Clamped to 1s..1h.
- pairing: PairRequest::encode cut the device name at a raw byte-64
  boundary, splitting multi-byte UTF-8 (host showed U+FFFD forever);
  it now shares Hello's char-boundary truncate_to.

The frozen-FEC-ceiling finding (reassemble.rs:109) was already fixed on
main by the sweep's high-severity commit — skipped as stale.

  audio/wol + the quic-gated control-plane group), without intra-doc
  links to feature-gated modules.
- quic/mod.rs: the module doc still described the deleted `msgs`
  module; list the actual post-split module set.

enricobuehlerandClaude Fable 5 e0a1edb9d4 refactor(core): co-locate the quic wire tests with their modules
quic/tests.rs (1813 lines, 43 tests) was the W7 split's leftover: the
source moved into handshake/caps/control/clock/pairing/pake/datagram/
endpoint/clipstream/io but every test stayed in one monolithic file.
Each test now lives in a #[cfg(test)] mod tests at the foot of the
module it exercises, verbatim. The two CompositorPref/GamepadPref
wire/name tests moved to config.rs (where those enums live), so they
now also run under --no-default-features. The clip_loopback and
ctrl_framing integration mods share connect_pair via a cfg(test)-only
quic/test_util.rs.

Test-only motion: 196 lib tests pass unchanged on macOS, clippy
--features quic --all-targets clean, include/punktfunk_core.h
byte-identical.

`ci.yml`'s clippy gate has been failing on main since the pre-0.16.0 sweep landed, and
because clippy stops at the first crate it can't compile, the visible error was only
ever the first of four. `ci.yml` is not tag-triggered, so v0.16.0 cut and shipped over
a red main; none of this reaches the release artifacts (the two E0308s are in a test
binary and a dev tool, and the rest are lints) but the gate has been blind since.

Fixed, in the order clippy surfaced them:

- clients/probe failed to COMPILE (E0308, x2). `810d918d` moved `clock_sync` onto the
  resumable `io::MsgReader` but only updated the client pump, leaving the probe passing
  a bare `&mut RecvStream`. The probe now wraps the control stream in a `MsgReader` at
  `open_bi` and threads that everywhere — Welcome, the --remode and --bitrate watchers,
  and the speed-test result read — which is also what the refactor was for: those reads
  sit behind timeouts and `select!`, exactly where a straddling frame would desync the
  stream for the rest of the run.

- pf-capture: `SPA_META_Cursor as u32` is a `u32 -> u32` no-op
  (`clippy::unnecessary_cast`). Line 1274 already passes the same constant uncast, so
  the type is not in question.

- pf-inject: `noop as usize` on the SIGUSR1 wake handler added in `986402f7` trips
  `clippy::function_casts_as_integer`; goes via `*const ()` as the lint asks. Same value
  in the `usize`-typed `sa_sigaction` slot.

- punktfunk-core: the `ctrl_framing` test module's `use super::*` is unused, which
  `-D warnings` promotes to an error.

Verified with CI's own commands on a Linux box (this is all Linux-gated code, so a Mac
cannot check it): `cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets --locked -- -D warnings`
finishes clean, `cargo build --workspace --locked` succeeds, and
`cargo test --workspace --locked` exits 0 with no failures — including punktfunk-core's
196-test suite, which covers the control-stream framing the probe change touches.

enricobuehlerandClaude Opus 4.8 810d918d36 fix(core/quic): make the control-stream read cancel-safe
`io::read_msg` frames a message with two `quinn::RecvStream::read_exact` calls,
and quinn documents `read_exact` as explicitly NOT cancel-safe: the bytes it has
already taken out of the stream live only in the future's own buffer and nothing
puts them back on drop. Both long-lived control loops drive that read from a
`tokio::select!` arm — the client pump alongside `ctrl_rx.recv()` and the resync
tick, the host alongside probe/reconfig/clip-offer channels — and neither uses
`biased;`, so any sibling that becomes ready ends the iteration and drops a
partially-progressed read. `clock_sync` has the same shape via
`tokio::time::timeout`, which can fire mid-frame before the session even starts.

A control frame only has to straddle two wakeups for this to bite: a ClipOffer
carries up to 16 kinds x 128 bytes of MIME, ~2 KB, which exceeds one QUIC packet
and is subject to the pacer; any frame whose second half is lost or reordered
does it too. Losing the consumed length prefix misaligns the stream permanently
— the next read takes two payload bytes as a length, so Reconfigured,
ProbeResult, BitrateChanged, ClockEcho and ClipState all decode as garbage and
are silently dropped, and a bogus length up to 64 KiB parks the read forever.
Mode switches, adaptive bitrate, mid-stream clock resync and clipboard are dead
for the rest of the session; only a reconnect recovers, and the log shows at
most one `warn!`.

Add `io::MsgReader`, which keeps the frame in progress in the reader rather than
the future and reads via quinn's cancel-safe `read`, and switch the three
cancelling sites to it (client control loop, host control loop, clock_sync).
The sequential handshake/pairing callers keep the plain `read_msg`, whose doc
comment now states the constraint. No wire bytes and no ABI change — only how
the same length-prefixed frames are assembled.

Tests: a frame split across two wakeups with the read cancelled in between must
resume and leave the following frame correctly framed (confirmed to fail — it
hangs on the desynced stream — against the old behavior), plus a zero-length
frame round-trip.

design/latency-reduction-2026-07.md T0.1/T0.2/T1.2/T1.3:

- T1.2 rate-capped front-loaded pacing: the paced overflow's budget is now
  min(0.9x slack, overflow wire time at ~3x the live encoder bitrate)
  (PUNKTFUNK_PACE_FACTOR, 0 = legacy deadline-only spread). A 300 KB-1 MB
  frame's tail leaves in ~2-5 ms instead of smearing across ~15 ms at 60 fps;
  GameStream schedule byte-identical (pins unchanged).
- T1.3 data-first wire order: packetize emits every block's data shards before
  any parity (per-block parity pools keep all blocks' parity alive for the
  second pass), so lossless completion stops waiting behind the parity tail.
  EOF = last emitted packet; receiver already order-agnostic.
- T0.1 staged 0xCF: HostTiming gains an append-extensible per-stage tail
  (queue/encode/pace us; seal+channel-wait derived as residual) - no cap bit
  needed, old peers read the 13-byte prefix. Joined client-side into
  Stats::host_{queue,encode,xfer,pace}_ms, the OSD detailed tier, and the
  probe's report.
- T0.2 true on-glass present timing: VK_KHR_present_id/present_wait enabled
  when supported; a PresentTimer waiter thread resolves each present id to
  real visibility, replacing the submit-time display stamp (which undercounts
  by up to a refresh and hides a silent-FIFO standing queue).

Validated on .21: core 185 + host 185 tests, pf-presenter 19, clippy
-D warnings across all five touched crates; loss-harness recovery curve
unchanged; C ABI harness round-trips.

client/{mod,control,worker,pump,planes,...} (W7) and deleted the two monoliths. The
feature had modified both deleted files, so its delta is re-applied onto the split
instead of resurrecting the monoliths:

Break the 1302-line quic/msgs.rs into four flat sibling modules behind the
quic facade's glob re-exports, so every crate::quic::X path stays byte-stable:
handshake.rs (Hello/Welcome/Start + codecs), caps.rs (video-cap bits, codec &
chroma negotiation, ColorInfo), control.rs (typed CTL_MAGIC messages + frame),
pairing.rs (SPAKE2 ceremony messages). msgs.rs is deleted; quic/mod.rs gains the
four `mod`/`pub use` lines and the `pub use crate::reject::*` hoist (moved up from
msgs.rs). Pure move; no wire-format or behavior change. Private helpers
(truncate_to, put_bytes, get_bytes) stay with their sole callers; no visibility
changes.

Verified both platforms from clean HEAD snapshots: Linux clippy (quic +
no-default, -D warnings) + full cargo test (157 lib + integration); Windows
clippy (both) + test --lib (156).

4ef90d586d feat(clipboard): wire protocol + client-core task for shared clipboard (Phase 0)
The portable shared-clipboard plane in punktfunk-core, all behind the `quic`
feature (design/clipboard-and-file-transfer.md §3):

- Control messages 0x40–0x44 (ClipControl / ClipOffer / ClipFetch...) and the
  HOST_CAP_CLIPBOARD capability bit, negotiated in the Welcome caps.
- Per-transfer QUIC bi-streams ("PKFs" magic) for lazy fetch of offered content,
  with ClipFetchHdr status/size framing (quic::clipstream).
- The §3.5 portable wire-MIME vocabulary (text/plain;utf-8, text/html, text/rtf,
  image/png) shared by both ends.
- Client-side clipboard task (client.rs) + C ABI surface bumped to v8 (abi.rs,
  regenerated include/punktfunk_core.h).
- Loopback transport tests (quic::tests).

No OS clipboard integration yet — that is the host backends (Phase 1/3) and the
macOS client (Phase 1).

Ported from feat/shared-clipboard (af3a7d8c, pre-W6 base) onto current main;
three deliberate deviations from the original commit:
- ABI v6 → v8: main took v6 (reanchor gate) and v7 (typed connect rejection)
  in the meantime; the clipboard C surface re-lands as v8.
- CLIP_CANCELLED_CODE 0x60 → 0x70: main's pairing-rejection close codes claimed
  the 0x60–0x67 block; the vocabularies stay disjoint on purpose.
- Negotiated.host_caps coexists with main's 6-tuple host_caps plumbing: main
  needs the worker-local copy for gamepad snapshots, the clipboard path needs it
  across ready_tx to build the NativeClient handle (punktfunk_connection_host_caps).

Per plan §2.5: the security-critical rustls fingerprint-pinning ServerCertVerifier
was hand-rolled three times — quic/endpoint.rs (PinVerify), pf-client-core
library.rs, punktfunk-tray status.rs — drifting copies on a trust boundary. Add
one canonical punktfunk_core::tls::PinVerify (+ cert_fingerprint) behind a light
`tls` feature (rustls + sha2 only, no QUIC runtime); `quic` now depends on it, and
quic::endpoint re-exports cert_fingerprint so that path stays byte-stable
(gamestream + pf-client-core reach it there).

- core::tls::PinVerify: new(pin) for the HTTP clients, with_observed(pin, slot)
  for the QUIC TOFU connect. Behavior-identical to all three originals (pin-check
  + real CertificateVerify signature verification; only hashes the leaf when a pin
  or observed slot needs it). Two focused unit tests anchor the boundary.
- quic/endpoint.rs: drop the private PinVerify, wire client_pinned through
  tls::PinVerify::with_observed.
- pf-client-core library.rs + tray status.rs: use the shared verifier; tray also
  routes load_pin through core cert_fingerprint and drops its direct sha2 dep,
  gaining only the light core `tls` feature (still no host dep, no QUIC runtime).

Verified on Linux (home-worker-5): clippy 0/0 for core(quic), core(tls),
pf-client-core, tray, host(nvenc,vulkan-encode,pyrowave); core 153 lib tests +
loopback 7/7 (pinned handshake) + c_abi round-trip green.

Community-contributed round 5 of the Steam Controller 2 passthrough,
reviewed + verified. A Puck-captured pad now presents the dongle's real
seven-interface identity (CDC pair, four controller HID slots, management
HID) instead of relabelling its reports as a wired 1302 — Steam's Puck
feature dances (wireless_transport / esb/bond / 0xB4 slot status) get
capture-shaped answers, and the wired identity's canned replies are
corrected to the real captures (attribute count, string-attr framing,
0xF2 firmware info, bcdDevice nibble encoding).

- new wire pref 10 = SteamController2Puck (Hello/Welcome byte; older
  peers degrade to Auto), selected by the Android capture link when the
  transport is a dongle, or by VID/PID in the degraded InputDevice path
- TRITON_RDESC is now the captured numbered descriptor (mouse/keyboard
  lizard collections + per-id vendor reports); unnumbered framing made
  hidraw mangle feature report 2 and Steam eventually closed the device
- interrupt-IN now queues sparse reports (battery/RSSI/wireless edges)
  instead of keeping latest-only, so a 250 Hz state packet can no longer
  erase them before the USB/IP poll observes them; EP0 SET_REPORT is
  split by wValue report type (OUTPUT parsed for rumble vs FEATURE)
- vendored usbip-sim: config attributes/max-power, IAD prefix + BOS
  descriptor support, correct BCD minor.patch encoding (Deck's 0x0300/
  0x0200 values are nibble-zero, so its bytes are unchanged), and
  full-speed interrupt pacing in ms (was 8 kHz from the HS formula)
- Triton feedback is serviced at 1 kHz while an SC2 backend exists so
  Steam's trackpad haptic writes reach the client unbatched

Verified: clippy -D warnings + 319 host tests green on Linux, core wire
tests green, Android kit/app compile + unit tests green. On-glass Puck
retest owed.

The 2026 Steam Controller (Valve "Ibex" / SDL "Triton") captured on an
Android client is passed through AS-IS: the host presents a virtual pad
with the real wired identity (28DE:1302) and mirrors the physical pad's
raw HID reports, so Steam on the host drives it over hidraw exactly like
the real thing — trackpads, gyro, paddles, and its rumble/settings writes
flow back onto the physical controller. Protocol ground truth: SDL's
Valve-maintained SDL_hidapi_steam_triton.c + steam/controller_structs.h.

Core:
- GamepadPref::SteamController2 (wire byte 9; names steamcontroller2/
  sc2/ibex) + PUNKTFUNK_GAMEPAD_STEAMCONTROLLER2 in the C ABI.
- Raw HID planes: RichInput::HidReport (0xCC/0x04, client→host input
  reports verbatim, Copy fixed-64 body) and HidOutput::HidRaw (0xCD/0x05,
  host→client feature/output writes for replay). Best-effort is sound by
  the device protocol's own design (rumble re-sent every ~40 ms, settings
  every ~3 s — losses self-heal); HidRaw bypasses hidout dedup for
  exactly that reason.

Host (Linux):
- triton_proto.rs + steam_controller2.rs: Triton2Manager UHID backend —
  no kernel driver binds the PID (hidraw only; Steam Input is the
  consumer), raw mirroring with a typed-fallback 0x42 synthesizer until
  the first raw report, SET_REPORT ack + raw forward, canned GET_REPORT
  serial reply, rumble also parsed onto the universal 0xCA plane (phone
  mirror). Rides the uhid + 28DE-conflict degrades; UHID promotion by
  Steam is flagged in the creation log (usbip transport is the known
  follow-up if Steam ignores Interface:-1 devices for Triton too).

Android:
- Sc2UsbLink (wired/Puck: vendor-interface claim detaches the OS driver,
  interrupt read loop, lizard-off on the watchdog cadence, raw replay via
  interrupt-OUT / SET_REPORT with hidapi report-id framing) and Sc2BleLink
  (Valve vendor GATT service, notify subscribe machine, 0x45 re-framing,
  HIGH connection priority).
- Sc2Capture orchestrator: raw plane + typed mirror (exit chord + host
  degrade paths keep working) on a GamepadRouter external slot; raw
  return path via GamepadFeedback.onHidRaw.
- nativeSendPadHidReport JNI (direct ByteBuffer, no per-report copy),
  hidout raw decode, usb-host/BLUETOOTH_CONNECT manifest bits, opt-out
  settings toggle, StreamScreen engagement incl. the USB permission flow.

Verified: core 149 + host 312 tests green on Linux (.21), on-box uhid
smoke creates/mirrors/tears down the virtual 28DE:1302, C ABI harness
round-trips, Android compileDebugKotlin green. On-glass with the real
controller owed.

A host's pairing-gate rejections (not armed / bound to another device /
rate-limited / identity required / denied / approval timeout / superseded /
wire-version mismatch) used to drop the connection with a bare code-0 close,
and every client collapsed that — plus plain unreachability — into one
"wrong PIN / not accepted" message. A dead network path, a disarmed host,
and an operator denial were indistinguishable, which is exactly the
misdiagnosis behind the recent Android pairing support thread.

- core: new ungated `reject` module — shared close-code block 0x60–0x67
  (+ 0x42 busy promoted from the host), `RejectReason`, and
  `PunktfunkError::Rejected`; `pair()`/`connect()` decode the host's
  ApplicationClosed code into `Rejected` instead of a generic Io error.
  C ABI v7: status block −20…−28 and `punktfunk_connect_ex8` (`status_out`
  reports the failure cause; NULL-return alone can't). Wire unchanged —
  old peers see exactly the old bare close.
- host: every gate rejection `conn.close()`s with its typed code (and the
  human reason as close bytes) before erroring out of the session task.
- pf-client-core: shared `pair_error_message`/`connect_reject_message`
  wording consumed by the Windows + Linux + console-UI + CLI surfaces; a
  connect failure now renders the host's stated reason.
- android: `nativeTakeLastError()` JNI token + `ConnectErrors.kt` — a
  network timeout is no longer reported as "wrong PIN, or the host isn't
  armed", and a typed rejection skips the wake-and-wait fallback (the host
  is demonstrably awake).
- apple: `HostRejection` + `.rejected`; the pair sheet and session alerts
  show the stated reason; connect moves to `ex8`.

Completes the cross-client half of the hunks that rode along in 12148243
(client.rs / trust.rs / punktfunk1.rs) — main did not build without this.

Validated: workspace clippy -D warnings + full test suite green on .21
(EXIT=0, 309 host / 148 core suites); macOS core 147+c_abi green; swift
build green; Android Kotlin + native crate green.

Found by the first live session on .21: the host negotiated PyroWave
and put codec=8 on the wire, but Welcome::decode's codec whitelist
(H264/AV1, else HEVC — the corrupt-byte guard) folded it to HEVC, so
the client opened an FFmpeg HEVC decoder against wavelet AUs. Roundtrip
test now pins the pyrowave byte (and that a genuinely unknown future
bit still folds to the HEVC default).

With the fix the Phase-2 exit session runs END TO END on .21
(host + session client on one box, host capturing the GNOME virtual
display, client presenting into a headless weston):
  negotiated codec=PyroWave (adv 0x0f) → PyroWave encoder (CPU-capture
  path — this box's Mutter+NVIDIA rejects the LINEAR-dmabuf offer) →
  wire → PyroWave decoder on the presenter's device → planar CSC.
  Static desktop: stable 60 fps, e2e 2.1-4.1 ms p50 (p95 <= 6 ms),
  decode 0.2-0.6 ms, vs HEVC/NVENC-direct baseline 2.1 ms — parity at
  idle. Full-window motion: 60 fps at ~80 Mb/s all-intra (HEVC ~7),
  decode still sub-ms, zero decode errors or keyframe-request chatter
  across every run. Deeper motion/loss characterization needs a
  dmabuf-accepting host box (this one is capped by the CPU capture
  path).

Also retires the stale "no shipping client decodes this" wording in
the host encoder/dispatch logs — the negotiation exists now.

Phase 2a+2c of design/pyrowave-codec-plan.md.

Core: CODEC_PYROWAVE = 0x08 on Hello::video_codecs/Welcome::codec.
Deliberately absent from resolve_codec's precedence ladder (plan §3 —
a 100-400 Mbps codec must never win a negotiation by mere mutual
support): reachable exclusively through the client's explicit
preferred_codec. Invariant tests cover never-auto-selected (even as the
only shared codec), preferred-path selection, and graceful fallback.
ABI mirror PUNKTFUNK_CODEC_PYROWAVE + lockstep assert for the
Apple/Android embedders.

Host: Codec::PyroWave variant threaded through the wire mappings; a
negotiated PyroWave session routes straight to the backend ahead of the
PUNKTFUNK_ENCODER pref dispatch (which stays a lab override). The
advertisement bit rides host_wire_caps only when the capture side would
actually deliver ingestible frames — linux_zero_copy_is_vaapi(), i.e.
AMD/Intel auto or an explicit operator pref on NVIDIA; per-session
raw-dmabuf OutputFormat plumbing is recorded as the Phase-3 item. The
libavcodec name helpers are dispatch-guarded unreachable; the web
console gains ApiCodec::PyroWave (api/openapi.json regenerated).

Validated on .21: 308 host tests green with and without the feature,
145 core tests green with quic, clippy clean.

Reversed/reordered delivery lets a FEC block reconstruct EARLY
(data + recovery >= k), counting still-in-flight shards into
fec_recovered_shards; window_loss_ppm then reported pure reordering as
loss, inflating LossReports — which size adaptive FEC and, since the
Automatic overhaul, feed the ABR controller (one severe window ends slow
start FOR GOOD, so a reorder burst could permanently kneecap a session's
climb).

Early reconstruct stays (it's the latency-right choice); the accounting
now nets it out. The reassembler counts a new fec_late_shards stat when a
parity-restored data shard ARRIVES after all — matched exactly: the
completed/abandoned-frame memory (ReassemblyWindow::completed, now a map)
remembers which shards each terminal frame reconstructed, and a late
arrival must match one (removed on hit), so wire duplicates of delivered
shards and stragglers of failed blocks count nothing. In-flight blocks
dedup via have_data. window_loss_ppm takes the late delta and estimates
from (recovered - late), saturating across window boundaries; both
callers (client core + probe) pass it.

The e2e reorder tests now assert the NET equals the true kill count in
both delivery orders, dup included (previously documented as a known
inflation). Not mirrored into the C-ABI PunktfunkStats — the loss windows
run in-core on every platform.

The gpu-session TrackedEncoder wrapper delegates every Encoder method by
hand, so the new reconfigure_bitrate fell through to the trait's false
default and EVERY bitrate change silently took the rebuild+IDR path — the
live .21 A/B caught it (host log said 'rebuilt', never 'in place').

Also:
- punktfunk-probe --rebitrate KBPS:SECS — headless mid-stream SetBitrate
  validator (cursor-wiggles so a damage-driven idle desktop keeps
  publishing frames through the switch). Live-verified on .21: one NVENC
  session open, then 'encoder bitrate reconfigured in place (adaptive
  bitrate — no IDR)' at 20→60 Mbps.
- on-hardware nvenc_cuda reconfigure smoke test (20→60→10 Mbps in place,
  zero IDRs — green on the RTX 5070 Ti).
- BitrateChanged doc no longer claims the switch costs an IDR.

through the fold policy), SwitchPro -> Xbox360. Wire round-trip pinned
0..=8 + unknown->Auto; fold table extended.

Phases 1–4 of design/encoder-recovery-hardening.md — make the shipped RFI/
freeze-until-reanchor recovery honest and rebuild-safe across every backend.

F1 — frame-index domain desync: the encode loop now owns a session-lifetime
`au_seq`; `Encoder::submit_indexed(au_seq + inflight)` pins NVENC inputTimeStamp
and AMF LTR slots to the WIRE frame index, so `invalidate_ref_frames` compares
client frame numbers in the same domain and survives adaptive-bitrate rebuilds
(an internal counter desynced on the first rebuild → RFI silently dead / an AMF
force-ref onto a never-decoded frame). `FrameMsg.frame_index` →
`Session::seal_frame_at`; GameStream gets the same via `VideoPacketizer::
packetize(.., Some(idx))`.

F2 — Windows NVENC left the client frozen ~1s per loss: NVENC RFI was
transparent (no anchor tag) while the session glue armed the 750ms IDR cooldown,
so the freeze only lifted on the ~1s keyframe re-ask. NVENC now mirrors AMF —
`pending_anchor` tags the first post-invalidate AU (the clean re-anchor
P-frame) `recovery_anchor`, incl. the covering-range dedupe re-arm; the client
lifts at ~RTT.

F3 — speed-test probe filler burned video frame indexes: moved to its own index
space (`Packetizer::alloc_probe_index` + `Session::submit_probe_frame`) with a
second client reassembly window routed on FLAG_PROBE, gated on the new
VIDEO_CAP_PROBE_SEQ Hello bit (mid-session probes declined for older clients).

F4 — RFI range sanity cap: forward gaps wider than `packet::RFI_MAX_RANGE` (256)
resync via keyframe instead of an out-of-range RFI, host- and client-side
(client huge-gap → keyframe in `RfiRecovery::observe` + the pf-client-core pump).

F5 — reset() parity: Windows NVENC (teardown + lazy re-init), Linux VAAPI
(drop-inner), Linux NVENC (reopen from stored OpenArgs) now give the stall
watchdog a heal lever instead of ending the session.

F6 — sw.rs `pending: VecDeque` (was `Option`), killing the silent AU drop at
capturer pipeline depth > 1. F7 — doc sweep on the RFI/anchor comments.

Verified: punktfunk-core lib tests (macOS + Linux), full punktfunk-host suite on
Linux (RTX 5070 Ti), Windows compile. Owed: the on-glass client matrix (F2
freeze A/B, AMF LTR spike across a bitrate rebuild).

Removes the "gray frames with motion" artifact on Vulkan-Video clients and lets
AMD/NVENC hosts re-anchor after loss WITHOUT a 20-40x IDR spike.

Client (pf-client-core): after a reference loss the hardware decoder conceals the
missing-reference deltas (on RADV, a gray plate with new motion painted over) and
returns Ok. The pump now freezes on the last good picture until a clean re-anchor
instead of showing the concealment — lifting on a real IDR, an intra-refresh
recovery mark (2nd wave boundary), or an LTR-RFI recovery anchor (1st). The
frame_index gap is the early, precise loss signal and drives an RFI request.

Host recovery signals (inert unless the backend supports them):
- USER_FLAG_RECOVERY_POINT — intra-refresh wave boundary (NVENC constrained GDR).
- USER_FLAG_RECOVERY_ANCHOR — AMD LTR reference-frame-invalidation recovery frame.

AMD LTR-RFI (encode/windows/amf.rs) — the AMD twin of NVENC RFI. AMF's AVC/HEVC API
has no constrained-intra property (intra-refresh cannot heal; PSNR-proven), so the
only clean-recovery lever is user LTR: mark frames as long-term references, and on
loss force the next frame to re-reference the newest known-good one — a clean
P-frame, not an IDR. Two rotating LTR slots, ~0.5s mark cadence, on by default for
AVC/HEVC (PUNKTFUNK_NO_AMF_LTR disables). invalidate_ref_frames picks the newest LTR
before the loss; a range older than the live slots falls back to a keyframe.

Protocol (punktfunk-core): RfiRequest control message + NativeClient::request_rfi().
Host: RfiRequest dispatch -> invalidate_ref_frames (IDR fallback); an RFI success
anchors the keyframe cooldown so the client's frames_dropped echo of the same loss
is coalesced away rather than emitting a redundant IDR.

Spike: synthetic NV12 GPU source for headless AMF encoder testing.

Validated: core rfi_request_roundtrip; pf-client-core 31 unit tests
(incl. an_rfi_anchor_lifts_immediately); punktfunk-host builds + 271 tests on Linux;
punktfunk-host builds clean on Windows; real AMD iGPU spike (invalidate at frame 90
forced re-reference to LTR frame 60 — 180 frames, keyframes=1, no recovery IDR).

enricobuehlerandClaude Fable 5 73c911cae4 feat(rumble): host-authoritative self-terminating envelopes (0xCA v2)
Rumble was level-triggered, unbounded state on a lossy channel: a non-zero
level meant "buzz until further notice", healed only by the host re-sending
state every 500 ms, and every client guessed when the host had died with its own
magic timeout (SDL 1.5 s, Apple 1.6 s, Android up to 60 s). A lost stop, a
reordered start, or a dead host could drone the motor for seconds.

Make "stuck rumble" inexpressible on the wire. The 0xCA datagram grows a
length-tolerant tail — [u8 seq][u16 ttl_ms] — so it self-terminates: the host
authorizes a level for at most ttl_ms and renews it (~120 ms) while it holds,
letting an abandoned one lapse client-side. seq is a per-pad wrapping reorder
gate (reusing GamepadSnapshot::seq_newer) so a reordered stale start can't
re-light a stopped motor. Decoders read the first 7 bytes as a plain level and
ignore the tail, so no wire-version bump: an old client renders a new host's
levels, and a new client falls back to its prior staleness heuristic against an
old host (ttl = None). All four generation pairings render correctly.

- core: encode_rumble_datagram_v2 / decode_rumble_envelope (datagram.rs); the
  client demux applies the seq gate then forwards (pad, low, high, Option<ttl>);
  next_rumble is unchanged (drops ttl), next_rumble_ttl keeps it; ABI adds
  punktfunk_connection_next_rumble2 + PUNKTFUNK_RUMBLE_NO_TTL, ABI_VERSION 4->5
  (WIRE_VERSION unchanged — the tail is backward-compatible).
- host (punktfunk1.rs): the flat 500 ms refresh becomes a renewal loop that bumps
  seq + stamps a fresh TTL on active pads and drains a short post-stop zero burst,
  then goes quiet. Hatches: PUNKTFUNK_RUMBLE_ENVELOPE=0 (legacy v1 + flat refresh,
  a bisect switch), PUNKTFUNK_RUMBLE_TTL_MS (clamped [150, 5000]).
- renderers honor the TTL as their playback duration/deadline and keep their old
  heuristic only for a legacy (ttl=None) update: pf-client-core (the Deck haptic
  keep-alive is now deadline-bounded so it can't sustain a host-stopped rumble),
  clients/windows (SDL duration), android (JNI packs the lease out-of-band in bit
  48 so any u16 ttl is unambiguous; Kotlin createOneShot(ttl)), apple
  (RumbleRenderer.envelopeDeadline + nextRumble2; sessionStaleSeconds demoted to
  the legacy fallback).
- tests: codec round-trip + tail tolerance + seq-gate reorder (Rust); the probe
  asserts the v2 tail arrived under PUNKTFUNK_TEST_FEEDBACK; the Apple loopback
  asserts ttlMs round-trips end to end; RumbleTuning lease-decision cases.

The host-side idle-timeout from the previous commit is defense in depth on the
game side; this is the guarantee on the client side. Design:
punktfunk-planning/design/rumble-envelope-plan.md.

invariant preserved per-ring.

- proto v3: SharedHeader._pad → target_id — the ring NAMES its monitor, host-stamped
  before the magic; the driver publisher refuses a cross-bound ring via the shared,
  unit-tested frame::check_attach (new DRV_STATUS_BIND_FAIL — the gamepad pad_index
  validation applied to frames, invariant #10); the host's wait_for_attach surfaces the
  refusal loudly and self-checks its own stamp.
- manager: the one-monitor MgrState becomes a slot map keyed by the client's identity
  slot (0 = anonymous/GameStream); per-slot reconnect + dead-WUDFHost preempts,
  slot-scoped begin_idd_setup (a different identity is an admission question, never a
  preempt), ONE device-level watchdog pinger, per-slot /display/state + /display/release.
- group topology: isolate_displays_ccd takes the managed target SET (a sibling slot is
  never deactivated); SavedConfig + the DDC/PnP axes move to the group record (first-in
  captures, last-out restores); desktop layout via CCD source origins from the pure
  layout::arrange (auto-row default, manual pins win), re-applied on create + reconfigure.
- admission: the Windows separate→reject override now sits behind the
  PUNKTFUNK_WIN_SEPARATE=1 validation hatch (the wedge it guarded is structurally gone —
  a second identity gets its own monitor + ring; default flips in W5 after soak);
  max_displays and NVENC session-unit budgets decline an unaffordable display AT
  admission; kick_dwm_compose is process-globally throttled and per-display — cursor
  jump + 35 ms dwell (a sub-tick jump composes nothing; DWM reads dirties from current
  state at the next vsync tick).

On-glass on the RTX box: V1/V2/V4/V5/V6/V9 green — two paired clients on two monitors
streaming ~60 fps each with zero mismatches and zero bind failures, churn-hammer clean
(no 0x80070490), per-ring mode-change recreate leaves the sibling untouched, typed
budget rejection, fault-injected cross-bind refused loudly with the sibling undisturbed.
V7: WUDFHost-kill shared fate is clean; in-process device recovery is a known follow-up
(the retired-never-closed control handles block the adapter cycle — reset-pf-vdisplay.ps1
recovers). DWM composes two IDD monitors concurrently at 60 fps — the plan's
load-bearing unknown, answered yes.

Also carries the client-HDR EDID forwarding that shared this working tree
(Hello::display_hdr → AddRequest luminance tail → the monitor's CTA-861.3 HDR block,
PUNKTFUNK_CLIENT_PEAK_NITS hatch) and the Deck client fixes (40 ms rumble keep-alive
with 1-LSB jitter, HDR self-diagnosing presenter warn, flatpak HDR env).

Capability now lives on the host, choice on the client. PUNKTFUNK_444 flips
to DEFAULT ON with an explicit-off grammar (0/false/off/no — the old
presence-only flag() would have read =0 as on); every existing gate still
applies (client advertisement, HEVC, full-chroma capture, encode probe,
Windows HDR-display downgrade), so an unset host merely stops refusing. The
Apple client's "Full chroma (4:4:4)" toggle flips to DEFAULT OFF: full chroma
is a per-session trade — a clear win for desktop/text, but at a fixed bitrate
game content spends those bits better at 4:2:0, and the encode/decode pixel
rate rises. Persisted user choices survive both flips.

Live-verified on the CachyOS VM: host with no env negotiates
chroma_format_idc=3 for a 4:4:4-advertising client; PUNKTFUNK_444=0 resolves
4:2:0.

Networking-audit deferred plan §6:

- 6.1 client reassembler ceiling derived from the negotiated rate:
  Welcome::session_config (client role) now sets max_frame_bytes to
  clamp(4 × bitrate_kbps×125 / refresh_hz, 8 MiB, 64 MiB) instead of the
  blanket 64 MiB p1_defaults bound — the hostile-header memory ceiling was
  ~10× larger than any real access unit. Local only (the host never
  reassembles video; the wire is self-describing); a bitrate-0 (older)
  host keeps the old bound. Unit-tested floor/derived/host/old-host cases.
- 6.2 ProbeState.active is cleared when the host's ProbeResult lands, so
  the pump stops mirroring receive counters once the burst is over.
- 6.3 Android: an AU larger than the codec input buffer is DROPPED with a
  recovery-keyframe request and a counter, on both the sync (feed) and
  async (feed_ready) paths — a truncated AU is corrupt input the decoder
  chews on silently, poisoning the reference chain until the next IDR. The
  async path recycles the never-queued input slot; the sync path returns
  the dequeued slot with zero valid bytes.
- 6.4 bounded uplink channels: mic_tx at 64 (~320 ms of 5 ms frames;
  overflow sheds the fresh frame with a debug log — a tokio mpsc can't
  shed from the head, and past 320 ms of backlog the mic is broken either
  way; the bound is about memory) and ctrl_tx at 32 (sparse requests; a
  full queue means a wedged control task, reported as Closed). input_tx
  stays unbounded per the plan: keyboard/mouse events must never silently
  drop, and gamepad state is snapshot-healed.
- 6.5 (wire version byte says P1 while streaming Gf16): record-only,
  resolves with the P2 packet revision.

include/punktfunk_core.h: cbindgen re-emitted in the new module order
after the quic/ split (item 3) — no semantic change beyond the reorder.

cargo ndk check (arm64-v8a), workspace clippy, core+host tests green.

dedent), submodules import what they previously inherited from the parent
scope, and the three RichInput kind tags are pub(super) for the tests
(same-module before). Verified line-multiset-identical after normalizing
indentation. cargo check --workspace, core tests (quic), clippy, and
cargo ndk check all green.
