enricobuehler	4a621de6b1	chore(packaging): retire VB-Cable — audio's substrate is Steam's drivers ... The other half of the audio-substrate decision (spikes S2+S3 green, minted endpoints landed in the previous commit): stop bundling a third-party kernel driver the host no longer needs. installer the VB-CABLE task, payload, silent-install run and the donationware notice are gone; a suppressible notice tells a Steam-less box that audio needs Steam INSTALLED (never running) and that installing it later just works. A cable from an older install is still deliberately not removed. packer + CI -VbCableDir/VBCABLE_DIR, the staged-payload check and the runner provisioning download are gone; SBOM drops the redistributed-driver component. winget the VB-Audio bundling-grant agreement becomes the honest Steam requirement (surfaced on the unattended path where no wizard is on screen). docs windows-host/uninstall/security/echo say what actually ships: no kernel-mode driver of our own, endpoints minted from Valve's vendor-signed drivers, VB-CABLE mentioned only as the historical fallback that keeps working. host wording the mic-open guidance and module headers lead with Steam; the NAME ladder itself is untouched — demoting 'cable input' was considered and rejected (on a box where minting transiently fails, the SSM would outrank an installed cable, steal the silent sink, and make audio host-audible).	2026-08-07 11:27:29 +02:00
enricobuehler	e629606e39	docs: Android is on Google Play production, not a closed test track ... Play production access landed 2026-08-01 and the listing is live, but the docs still told Android users to beg for a tester invite on Discord and warned that the Play link "only resolves once your account is on the tester list". Both are now wrong, and the install page is the first thing a new Android user reads. Stable is a public Play listing. Canary is unchanged — it still goes to the invite-only Internal testing track — so each page now draws that line explicitly instead of describing both as test tracks. Also corrects the release process: channels.md said CI "never auto-publishes to the public stores" and that someone promotes alpha -> production by hand. Since 43e3c7b6 a vX.Y.Z tag publishes to production at 100% with no further click (android.yml resolves TRACK=production on refs/tags/v*). Apple is still manual, so that half stands. Touches install-client.md, clients.md, channels.md, support-matrix.md and uninstall.md — the last one told people to ask on Discord to be removed from a tester list that no longer gates the app.	2026-08-04 19:48:59 +02:00
enricobuehlerandClaude Opus 5	d383161723	docs: the docs catch up with five releases of shipped work ... ~1150 feat/fix commits landed since v0.19 and the docs drifted badly. This is a full sweep of every page against the code as shipped: ~280 verified corrections, nine new pages, and one deletion. The worst of what was wrong: the quickstart's five-minute path could not work (`serve` never started the web console, so step 3 had no PIN to read); every packaged Linux host runs `serve --gamestream` while security.md told readers to leave GameStream off; HDR was documented as Windows-only; `PUNKTFUNK_SECURE_DDA` was documented as a working knob that nothing reads; `PUNKTFUNK_INPUT_BACKEND` listed a `uinput` value that does not exist and named libei for KDE instead of kwin; README linked three pages deleted on 2026-07-05; and the rpm-ostree update command pointed at a script no package installs. Completeness: about half of what shipped since v0.19 had no page at all. New: support-matrix (what works where, from 217 verified capability cells), input (mouse/touch/pen — and the in-stream chords, so the docs finally say how to get your mouse back), client-settings, profiles-and-links, game-library, clipboard, wake-on-lan, hdr, uninstall. Updating existed but had zero inbound links. status.md is gone: its facts moved into the support matrix, its shell stays as a redirect so the public URL does not 404. roadmap.md is themes now, not a feature checklist — checkboxes are what rotted. Debian is no longer claimed. The .deb's Depends resolve against Ubuntu images, nothing in CI builds or tests Debian, and Debian 12 is below the glibc 2.39 floor.
