Pressing guide/Steam/QAM collided with the client device's own shell: iOS 26 opens its Game Overlay for the Home press (no app opt-out until iOS 27 makes it a user setting), and a Gaming-Mode client opened BOTH Steam overlays for one press — the local one covering the stream. Two cross-client tier-P settings, zero wire changes: - system_buttons (auto|forward|local): raw guide+misc1 passthrough. Auto forwards everywhere EXCEPT under gamescope, where SteamOS reacts to the same physical press no matter what. - guide_gesture (auto|on|off): hold Select ALONE ~350ms sends the HOST's guide, down until release — held on, that's the host's long-press, which opens a Gaming-Mode host's QAM for regular pads. A Select tap is delivered on release with its up TAP_PRESS (50ms) behind, because per-transition sends fold into seq'd GamepadState snapshots and a back-to-back pair can coalesce into no press at all. A Select inside a combo (the escape chord) passes through untouched. Auto arms it only where the raw press can't reach the host cleanly: gamescope, iOS/iPadOS, tvOS. The same SelectGesture rules live in pf-client-core (pure state machine + unit tests), the Apple client (mask-diff adaptation in GamepadCapture), and Android's GamepadRouter. Settings rows on every surface (GTK, WinUI, console UI, Decky, Apple x2, Android x2) with profile plumbing throughout. punktfunk-session grows a control socket ($XDG_RUNTIME_DIR[/app/$FLATPAK_ID]/punktfunk-session-ctl.sock — the one runtime path a flatpak and the host see identically): 'guide'/'qam' verbs inject synthetic taps. The Decky panel gains a Host menus section (visible while the client runs) whose buttons press the host's Steam/QAM and close the local menu so the host's shows through. iOS 27's GCControllerHomeButtonSettingsManager deep-link is a TODO (the class needs the Xcode 27 SDK to compile). Docs: input, client-settings, steam-deck. Design: punktfunk-planning design/system-buttons-routing.md. Gates: docker clippy --all-targets --locked -D warnings + tests (pf-client-core 88 incl. 6 new gesture tests, pf-console-ui 47), cargo fmt --all --check, swift build (macOS), gradle kit+app compile, decky tsc --noEmit + py_compile. clients/windows not compiled (no box). |

docs: the Deck plugin is a launcher now, not a second client
The plugin's settings tab, fullscreen page, host editor and games picker are gone, and the
docs described all four in detail. Sweeps clients/decky/README.md and the docs site.
steam-deck.md gains a **Request access** section — the no-PIN path where the host's operator
approves the Deck, which is the one genuinely new thing a user gets — and says plainly where
the settings went: **Open Punktfunk → Settings**, the same rows over the same store, one tap
from the same panel. A removal that reads as a regression is worth a sentence, not a silence.
The troubleshooting table drops the rows for surfaces that no longer exist and gains the two
questions the new path will actually raise ("request access isn't offered", "the stream just
sits there").
client-settings.md claimed ~18 settings were "offered by … and Decky". None are; the console
home offers them. Its intro now names the console home's real sections (Stream, Video,
Presentation, Audio, Controller, Touchscreen, Interface, Profiles) instead of describing the
deleted sidebar.
Three claims in that file turned out to be wrong ALREADY, independent of this rework, and are
fixed here because verifying against crates/pf-console-ui/src/screens/settings.rs is what
found them:
• "Render scale — offered everywhere except the console home's list". RowId::RenderScale has
been in the console's ROWS since 2026-07-31.
• wake-on-lan.md: "Punktfunk Console has no auto-wake setting of its own". It does —
RowId::AutoWake, "Wake hosts automatically". Its Wake & Connect BUTTON is independent of
the setting, which is the true half that sentence was built on.
• The console home's Library button was documented as gated on the "Show game library"
toggle. It isn't — `library_enabled` appears nowhere in pf-console-ui outside the toggle
row itself; home.rs offers Library on any paired, saved host.
Also updated: support-matrix (Decky's Profiles and Game library go ✅/❌ → ⚠️ — the panel shows
pinned profile cards but creates none, and the library lives in the console home),
wake-on-lan (the plugin no longer fires its own packet or stretches the connect budget — the
CLI runs the real wake-and-wait), pairing, game-library, profiles-and-links, input, clipboard
and install-client.

~1150 feat/fix commits landed since v0.19 and the docs drifted badly. This is a full sweep of every page against the code as shipped: ~280 verified corrections, nine new pages, and one deletion. The worst of what was wrong: the quickstart's five-minute path could not work (`serve` never started the web console, so step 3 had no PIN to read); every packaged Linux host runs `serve --gamestream` while security.md told readers to leave GameStream off; HDR was documented as Windows-only; `PUNKTFUNK_SECURE_DDA` was documented as a working knob that nothing reads; `PUNKTFUNK_INPUT_BACKEND` listed a `uinput` value that does not exist and named libei for KDE instead of kwin; README linked three pages deleted on 2026-07-05; and the rpm-ostree update command pointed at a script no package installs. Completeness: about half of what shipped since v0.19 had no page at all. New: support-matrix (what works where, from 217 verified capability cells), input (mouse/touch/pen — and the in-stream chords, so the docs finally say how to get your mouse back), client-settings, profiles-and-links, game-library, clipboard, wake-on-lan, hdr, uninstall. Updating existed but had zero inbound links. status.md is gone: its facts moved into the support matrix, its shell stays as a redirect so the public URL does not 404. roadmap.md is themes now, not a feature checklist — checkboxes are what rotted. Debian is no longer claimed. The .deb's Depends resolve against Ubuntu images, nothing in CI builds or tests Debian, and Debian 12 is below the glibc 2.39 floor. The `debian` in the repo URL is the package format. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

The "Which should I use?" table on the clients page listed most client names as bold text, not links — only the Decky plugin and pf-webos were clickable — so the client references appeared broken. Link each client to its section (or dedicated page), and fix a stale Windows headless command. Repo-wide docs correctness/staleness pass against the code: - steam-deck: client-not-found -> flatpak-not-found (the real backend code) - install: host cert is punktfunk-host-windows_<ver>.cer, not ..._setup.cer - configuration: GPU_PRIORITY_CLASS default is auto; 10BIT/444 are default-on - how-it-works/index: GameStream/Moonlight is opt-in (--gamestream) - roadmap: clipboard sync is shipped, not planned - install-client: MSIX/cert artifacts are arch-suffixed (_x64/_arm64) - requirements: fix garbled 22H2/IddCx sentence - status: Linux encode also covers AMD/Intel (VAAPI/Vulkan Video) - automation: add the plugins.changed event - windows-host: note the optional bundled VB-CABLE virtual mic - sway: PUNKTFUNK_COMPOSITOR=hyprland is a wlroots-family alias - running-as-a-service: punktfunk-probe is a source-build-only dev tool Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

docs(decky): use the unom.io/pf-decky short link for install-from-URL
The full git.unom.io package URL is painful to read/type on a Steam Deck's on-screen keyboard; unom.io/pf-decky now redirects to it (added in unom/infra's Caddyfile). Canary/pinned links stay long-form since only /latest gets a short link. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(decky): visible branded Steam shortcut, one-tap client updates, fullscreen-page polish
- The "Punktfunk" shortcut is no longer hidden: it now ships committed
artwork (grid/wide/hero/logo/icon, generated by scripts/gen-steam-art.py
— a pure-stdlib SDF renderer drawing the lens mark + a monoline
"punktfunk" wordmark) applied via SetCustomArtworkForApp /
SetShortcutIcon. Existing installs are unhidden and re-arted once per
ART_VERSION; relaunching the library entry streams to the last host.
- Updates cover the flatpak CLIENT too: check_update compares the
user-scope installed commit against its remote, applyUpdate runs
`flatpak update --user` first (awaited) and the plugin reinstall —
which reloads the panel — last; docs spell out the sudo-less --user
update ("sudo flatpak update" silently skips per-user installs).
- Fullscreen page: DialogButton stretches to 100% width in the gamepad
UI, so the Stream/Pair/Refresh/… actions filled whole rows — sized to
content + right-aligned now; the header drops its Update button (About
tab + QAM banner keep the flow) and the back button gets a real 40px
hit target.
- Settings: the disable-Steam-Input note also shows for Automatic — on a
Deck that now forwards the built-in controller as a Steam Deck pad
(paddles/trackpads/gyro), which needs Steam Input off for the shortcut.

feat(protocol, clients): codec preference negotiation + Linux client decodes per Welcome (Phase 2a)
Adds a client-selectable **preferred codec** and wires the core + ABI + probe + Linux client to
negotiate and decode it. (Windows/Apple/Android follow in 2b.)
**Core:**
- `Hello.preferred_codec` (a single CODEC_* bit, 0 = auto) — a soft hint appended after
`video_codecs`. `resolve_codec(client, host, preferred)` now honors the preference when the host
can also emit it, else falls back to precedence (HEVC > AV1 > H.264). Roundtrip + preference tests.
- `NativeClient::connect` takes `video_codecs` + `preferred_codec`; `NativeClient.codec` exposes the
resolved `Welcome.codec`.
- ABI: `punktfunk_connect_ex7` (adds the two codec params; `ex6` delegates to it advertising
HEVC-only) + `punktfunk_connection_codec` getter + `PUNKTFUNK_CODEC_{H264,HEVC,AV1}` constants
(drift-guarded against the wire values). Header regenerated.
**Host:** passes `hello.preferred_codec` into `resolve_codec`.
**probe:** `--codec h264|hevc|av1|auto` sets the preference (still advertises it can decode all
three); the dump extension already follows the resolved codec.
**Linux client:** advertises the codecs FFmpeg can actually decode (`decodable_codecs()`), threads
the user's `codec` setting as the preference, and builds the decoder — both the software and VAAPI
paths, plus the mid-session VAAPI→software demotion — from the negotiated `Welcome.codec` instead of
hardcoding HEVC. New "Video codec" dropdown in Preferences (Automatic/HEVC/H.264/AV1).
Live-validated on the dev box: probe `--codec hevc` against a software (H.264-only) host resolves to
H.264 (graceful soft-preference fallback), no failure. clippy + core (57) + host (133) tests green.

feat(decky): self-update without the store + Gaming-Mode launch polish, and ship the Steam Deck docs
Plugin self-update (no Decky store): CI publishes a per-channel manifest.json
({version, immutable per-version artifact, sha256}) beside the zip and bakes
update.json {channel, manifest} into the plugin. main.py `check_update` reads the
installed version from package.json (the value Decky reports — not plugin.json),
fetches the channel manifest, and the frontend shows an "Update to vX" button that
drives Decky Loader's own install RPC (root downloads + SHA-256-verifies + hot-reloads).
CI now stamps a plain-numeric semver (0.3.<run> canary / X.Y.Z stable) into
package.json — a -ciN suffix would mis-order under compare-versions.
Linux client: `--fullscreen` (plus SteamDeck/gamescope env fallback) enters GTK
fullscreen on stream start so Gaming-Mode chrome is hidden; native-mode resolution
falls back to the display's first monitor when the window isn't mapped yet (was
dropping to the 1080p floor — wrong on the Deck's 1280×800); add a confirmed
"Remove saved host" action (KnownHosts::remove_by_fp).
Docs: new docs/steam-deck.md (Decky install/pair/stream/self-update/troubleshooting),
wired into meta.json nav, and cross-linked from clients/install-client/channels. This
is the page docs.punktfunk.unom.io/docs/steam-deck — the website's download link
pointed at it before it existed; committing it makes that link resolve.
