feat(packaging/bazzite): the sysext feed is signed, and the client refuses one that isn't
`punktfunk-sysext` checked the SHA256 of every image it downloaded, which sounds like verification but isn't: SHA256SUMS lives on the same registry as the images it describes, so anything able to replace an image could replace its checksum in the same request. The checksum only ever proved the download wasn't corrupted. Each feed now carries SHA256SUMS.asc, a detached OpenPGP signature over the manifest, and the client verifies it before believing a line of it. The key is packages@unom.io (AF245C506F4E4763) — the same one that already signs our RPMs, so boxes have one key to trust and we have one key to rotate. Its public half is baked into the script rather than fetched from the feed, because a key you fetch from the thing you're authenticating authenticates nothing; gpg (present on Bazzite) does the verifying against a throwaway keyring holding only that key, so "good signature" and "signed by us" are the same statement. Rollout: stable feeds only publish on a tag, so a `--seal` mode re-signs an existing manifest without rebuilding an image, and every rpm.yml run seals the OTHER channel of its Fedora major too. Canary pushes are frequent, so all live feeds seal within a day of this landing and a key rotation propagates without republishing anything. Until a feed is sealed the client refuses it and says so, naming PUNKTFUNK_SYSEXT_ALLOW_UNSIGNED=1 as the informed way through. Two things testing changed. The baked-key fingerprint check compared against an empty string — the armor block is a single-quoted shell literal, so the extracted range carried `FEED_KEY='` on its first line and gpg saw no armor at all; every publish would have "mismatched" and, on a tag, failed the release. And `status` captured fetch_manifest's stderr but only printed it on failure, swallowing the ALLOW_UNSIGNED warning precisely when someone was running unverified. Verified end to end on Bazzite 44 against a file:// feed with a throwaway key: unsigned feed refused; ALLOW_UNSIGNED=1 proceeds and says so; wrong signer rejected; tampered manifest rejected; good signature accepted; `update` exits 1 before touching anything on a bad feed. Publisher side: signs when the baked key matches, refuses on mismatch, refuses with no key, and its signature round-trips through the real client. shellcheck clean. fix(packaging/rpm): a release must not publish unsigned RPMs into a gpgcheck=1 repo
Signing was already live and the docs were half right about it. `RPM_GPG_PRIVATE_KEY` is an ORG-level secret on unom, so it is invisible in this repo's Actions secrets — which reads exactly like "never set up", and both the rpm.yml step name and sign-rpms.sh's header still said "dormant". Checked it on the wire instead: a published punktfunk-web RPM carries an OpenPGP V4 EdDSA header signature from af245c506f4e4763, the same key committed at packaging/rpm/RPM-GPG-KEY-punktfunk. The real gap was the failure mode. README.md hands users a repo file with gpgcheck=1, but sign-rpms.sh exits 0 when the key is missing — so an org secret that got rotated, renamed, or not inherited would publish an unsigned release into a repo that rejects unsigned packages, and every user's `dnf upgrade` would break with us none the wiser. On refs/tags/v* that is now a build failure. Other builds still fall through unsigned so forks and local builds keep working. Docs corrected to match: the org-level location (with a wire-level check that doesn't depend on where the secret lives), the fail-closed rule, and a note that `rpmkeys --checksig` reporting NOKEY still means signed. build(rpm): let the spec build a client-only aarch64 RPM
The blocker was never ExclusiveArch — it was that %build builds host + tray + client together and %install lays down the host unconditionally, with no way to express "client only". `%bcond_without host` (default ON, so an x86_64 build is unchanged) now gates the host binary, the tray, the headless-session data, the firewalld services, the main %post and the bare %files section. Omitting %files for the MAIN package is the load-bearing part: it is what stops rpm emitting an empty `punktfunk` alongside punktfunk-client. build-rpm.sh exposes it as PF_WITHOUT_HOST=1 and skips the libcuda stub regeneration and the libcuda leak check, neither of which means anything without the host. Verified two ways. `rpmspec -P` shows the default expansion still carrying 3 host install lines, the tray build and one bare %files, while --without host carries none of those and one %files client. And a real rpmbuild in a native aarch64 Fedora 43 container produced punktfunk-client-*.aarch64.rpm with correct aarch64 sonames (libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.17), libSDL3.so.0, libavcodec.so.61) and no main package. The punktfunk-web unit serves HTTP/1.1 over TLS with the host's own self-signed identity cert, but several guides still told users to open http://<host>:47992, which fails. Correct the scheme everywhere and note the one-time browser cert warning in the canonical + SteamOS docs. The RPM %post web hint was doubly wrong (http://<host-ip>:3000): wrong scheme and wrong port — the service listens on :47992, not the :3000 dev default. feat(protocol,clients): codec preference negotiation + Linux client decodes per Welcome (Phase 2a)
Adds a client-selectable **preferred codec** and wires the core + ABI + probe + Linux client to
negotiate and decode it. (Windows/Apple/Android follow in 2b.)
**Core:**
- `Hello.preferred_codec` (a single CODEC_* bit, 0 = auto) — a soft hint appended after
`video_codecs`. `resolve_codec(client, host, preferred)` now honors the preference when the host
can also emit it, else falls back to precedence (HEVC > AV1 > H.264). Roundtrip + preference tests.
- `NativeClient::connect` takes `video_codecs` + `preferred_codec`; `NativeClient.codec` exposes the
resolved `Welcome.codec`.
- ABI: `punktfunk_connect_ex7` (adds the two codec params; `ex6` delegates to it advertising
HEVC-only) + `punktfunk_connection_codec` getter + `PUNKTFUNK_CODEC_{H264,HEVC,AV1}` constants
(drift-guarded against the wire values). Header regenerated.
**Host:** passes `hello.preferred_codec` into `resolve_codec`.
**probe:** `--codec h264|hevc|av1|auto` sets the preference (still advertises it can decode all
three); the dump extension already follows the resolved codec.
**Linux client:** advertises the codecs FFmpeg can actually decode (`decodable_codecs()`), threads
the user's `codec` setting as the preference, and builds the decoder — both the software and VAAPI
paths, plus the mid-session VAAPI→software demotion — from the negotiated `Welcome.codec` instead of
hardcoding HEVC. New "Video codec" dropdown in Preferences (Automatic/HEVC/H.264/AV1).
Live-validated on the dev box: probe `--codec hevc` against a software (H.264-only) host resolves to
H.264 (graceful soft-preference fallback), no failure. clippy + core (57) + host (133) tests green.

ci(release): split canary/stable tracks + unified Gitea Releases
A push to main publishes canary builds to canary channels (fast iteration,
unchanged); a single vX.Y.Z tag releases every platform at one version to the
stable channels and attaches all artifacts (.deb/.rpm/.msix/.apk/.aab/.dmg +
flatpak/decky/host-installer) to one Gitea Release. Collapses the
host-v*/win-v*/host-win-v* tag namespaces into v* — the channel split makes the
version-shadow bug structurally impossible (canary and stable are separate repos,
never a shared version line).
- scripts/ci/gitea-release.{sh,ps1}: one idempotent release helper
(create-or-fetch + delete-before-upload), replacing 3 copy-pasted inline blocks
and fixing their latent 409-on-reupload bug; prerelease flag auto-derived from
the tag (an -rc tag won't shadow "Latest")
- channels: apt canary/stable distributions; rpm *-canary/base groups; flatpak
canary/stable OSTree branches + a 2nd .Canary.flatpakref; generic-registry
canary/ vs latest/ aliases; Play internal/alpha; Apple TestFlight vs notarized DMG

feat(rpm): enable gpgcheck=1 — packages are signed + verified
The signing rollout is confirmed end to end: the latest published RPM (0.2.0-0.ci1089) carries a header GPG signature (added by `rpm --addsign`) and passed the in-CI `rpmkeys --checksig` self-verify before publishing (a bad/unsigned build fails that gate and never reaches the registry). So flip every .repo snippet from gpgcheck=0 to gpgcheck=1 and add the package-signing public key (served from the generic registry, committed at packaging/rpm/RPM-GPG-KEY-punktfunk) to gpgkey= alongside the Gitea metadata key — dnf/rpm-ostree imports both. Covers rpm/README, packaging/README, the bootc Containerfile, and the docs-site bazzite/fedora-kde install pages; rpm/README's signing section reframed from "dormant/enabling" to active (+ key-rotation notes). feat(rpm): wire per-package GPG signing (dormant until a key secret is set)
The audit's signing recommendation, scoped to RPM (apt's signed Release metadata already covers .debs; bootc cosign deferred). packaging/rpm/sign-rpms.sh GPG-signs dist/*.rpm and self-verifies (rpmkeys --checksig), run from rpm.yml between build + publish. Safe to ship: the step is a NO-OP (exit 0, unsigned as today) until RPM_GPG_PRIVATE_KEY is set as a CI secret — so it can't break current CI, and when enabled a bad macro fails loudly via the in-step checksig rather than shipping bad signatures. rpm/README gains the one-time enablement runbook (generate a dedicated passphrase-less key, add the secret, publish the public key, flip gpgcheck=1 only after a signed build lands) and notes step-ca is for TLS, not OpenPGP (it can't sign RPMs). Also fixes the rpm/README version staleness the doc review caught: rolling is 0.2.0-0.ciN (outranks the stray 0.1.1, no pin needed), host releases use host-v* not the client's v*. feat(packaging): bundle the web console into the RPM / Arch / bootc host packages
The punktfunk-web management console (pairing + status) shipped only via apt. Extend it to the other HOST packaging methods, mirroring the Debian punktfunk-web .deb (flatpak is the client, correctly excluded): - rpm/punktfunk.spec: new noarch `punktfunk-web` subpackage (the .output bundle + a /usr/bin/punktfunk-web-server node launcher + both systemd --user units + web-init.sh + web.env.example), gated behind `%bcond_with web`. OFF by default because building the Nitro/Node SSR bundle needs `bun`, which a plain rpmbuild / COPR mock chroot lacks. Host package weak-Recommends punktfunk-web. - ci/fedora-rpm.Dockerfile: install bun (+ unzip) so the CI builder can build the console. - rpm.yml: build `PF_WITH_WEB=1` (Prep bootstraps bun to stay green pre-image-rebuild); the publish loop already globs the new noarch rpm into the registry. build-rpm.sh: `--with web` when PF_WITH_WEB=1. - bootc/Containerfile: install from the Gitea RPM registry (which carries punktfunk-web) instead of COPR — `dnf5 install punktfunk punktfunk-web`. - arch/PKGBUILD: opt-in `punktfunk-web` split member (PF_WITH_WEB=1 appends it + bun) so a default makepkg still builds host+client with no JS tooling — matching the spec's bcond. - docs: packaging/README, rpm/README, copr/README (the no-bun caveat), bazzite/README (Path B rewritten COPR→Gitea registry), arch/README — enable + journal-password steps. Reviewed across methods by an adversarial multi-agent pass (rpm/ci/arch/bootc/consistency lenses, each blocking finding 3x-verified); fixed the two it confirmed real — the Arch bun-mandatory regression (now opt-in) and the stale COPR wording in bazzite Path B. docs(rpm): use repo_gpgcheck for the unsigned Gitea RPMs
Gitea GPG-signs the repo metadata but not the individual packages, while its auto-served bazzite.repo sets gpgcheck=1 — so `rpm-ostree install` fails with "could not be verified" on our unsigned RPMs. Document writing the repo explicitly with gpgcheck=0 + repo_gpgcheck=1 (verify the signed metadata, which carries each package checksum) instead of curling the served .repo. ci(rpm): publish punktfunk-host RPM to the Gitea registry (Bazzite)
Mirrors the apt pipeline for Fedora Atomic / Bazzite. New `rpm` workflow builds the host RPM in a Fedora 43 builder image (ci/fedora-rpm.Dockerfile — matches Bazzite's libavcodec.so.61, with a self-contained 16-symbol libcuda link stub so no NVIDIA packages are needed in CI) and uploads to Gitea's public RPM registry (group "bazzite") on every main push (rolling 0.0.1-0.ciN.<sha>) and v* tag (clean X.Y.Z-1). Bazzite hosts then track it with `rpm-ostree upgrade`. - packaging/rpm/build-rpm.sh: git-archive tarball + rpmbuild (--nodeps, since the toolchain is rustup + dnf, not RPMs); copies to dist/, asserts no cuda/nvidia leak. - punktfunk.spec: overridable pf_version/pf_release for CI snapshots; exclude libcuda.so from auto-Requires (NVENC/EGL come from the driver, out of band) — same NVIDIA filter as the .deb; fix a bogus changelog weekday. - docker.yml builds+pushes the new fedora-rpm image; packaging README + rpm/README document the rpm-ostree install/update path (recommended option). Builder image seeded to the registry so rpm.yml's first run finds it. RPM build + clean-Requires verified locally in the image (libavcodec.so.61 / libavutil.so.59, no cuda).
