fix(host/pads): DualShock 4 gyro ran 40× fast, and no pad ever stopped turning
Phase 1 of the gyro program (design/gyro-program.md, G1-G5) — the five correctness fixes under it. Gyro aim integrates angular velocity over time, so each of these is not a cosmetic wrongness: a wrong scale is every rotation being the wrong size, a wrong clock is every rotation being integrated against a fictional dt, and a stale sample is rotation that never happened. G1 — the DualShock 4 calibration blob. A Sony pad does not assume a motion scale, it reads one out of a fixed calibration feature report. Ours declared 0.5 LSB per °/s and 8192 LSB/g while the wire delivers 20 and 10000, so every DS4-type session decoded gyro 40× too fast and acceleration 1.22× hot — since the backend shipped. The blob now states the wire's own units (the DualSense blob's numbers, deliberately: both pads consume the identical wire sample). Its interleaved per-axis order is NOT a bug and stays: the virtual pad declares BUS_USB, where interleaved is the correct layout; grouped is Bluetooth's. The same blob lives a second time in the UMDF driver, which is a separate WDK workspace that cannot depend on pf-inject — one wrong table in two files, where fixing one reads as fixing it. Both are fixed, and the DS4 feature reports now live in dualshock4_proto beside the DualSense's rather than in the Linux backend, so there is one canonical copy to point at. Field hosts keep the old blob until they update the host package. G2 — the gate that would have caught it. Nothing pinned any backend's declaration against the wire, so tests/motion_contract.rs now applies the CONSUMER's arithmetic (the kernel's, and SDL's, which differ) to each backend and asserts the result lands back on the wire constants — for the DualSense and DS4 blobs, and for the Deck and Switch Pro rescales. It also parses the driver's Rust source and re-derives the units from THAT, so the two copies cannot drift. Verified non-vacuous both ways: re-introducing the old blob fails with "declares a fractional 32/64 LSB per °/s", and reverting only the driver's copy fails with "the UMDF driver's DS4_FEATURE_CALIBRATION has drifted from pf-inject's". The wire units themselves move to punktfunk_core::input::gamepad, referenced by the client's capture scale, the Deck/Switch rescales, and the probe — whose at-rest vector said 16384 (a driver's number, not the wire's) and now says 1 g. G3 — real sensor clocks. The DualSense advanced its sensor timestamp by +1 raw unit per report (0.33 µs — a frozen clock) and the DS4 by a flat +188 (~1 ms) regardless of the real 4-8 ms cadence. Anything integrating rate × dt off that field got nonsense. All four backends now stamp elapsed monotonic time in their own units via a shared SensorClock, anchored to the pad's first report so an irregular publish loop cannot make it drift, and truncated to the field width — which reproduces the wrap real hardware does. G4 — motion is level-triggered and had no watchdog. merge_frame preserves the last sample and the heartbeat re-emits it, so a feed that stops leaves the pad rotating forever — and with G3's honest clock, at a dt that keeps growing. Rumble and the pen plane each have an idle timeout; motion now has one too, at 100 ms. Angular velocity only: acceleration is kept, because gravity is legitimately persistent and blanking it reads as free-fall. The SDL client parks its gyro at zero when a slot closes, which is the case we can flush rather than wait out. (The Apple half of this rides in PR #88.) G5 — a pad returning inside the 300 ms replug grace keeps the same device and skips the create path, so a different controller inherits the previous one's touch contact and rotation — and a pad with no gyro never sends a sample to correct it. sweep() now reports re-claims separately from drops, and the manager clears the rich plane on one. Rich fields only: rumble and hidout dedup deliberately survive a removal. Gates (Linux, CI image): fmt, build, clippy --all-targets -D warnings over pf-inject/punktfunk-core/punktfunk-probe/pf-client-core, and the test suites — 110 pf-inject unit + 6 contract + 29 pf-client-core gamepad, all green. Not yet verified on glass; the on-glass sign/scale session is G16. |

feat(core/wire): per-frame shard geometry, jumbo ceiling, Hello advertisement
Phase 0 of mid-session shard-payload renegotiation (planning design/shard-payload-reneg.md), stacked on the leg-1 MTU resilience. All three legs are client-side and forward-compatible: deployed clients that carry them accept a mid-session shard change the moment a future host sends one, and nothing changes on the wire until then. - W0.1 — the reassembler's strict shard_bytes firewall becomes per-frame pinning: a frame's first-arriving packet pins that frame's shard size (bounds-checked to [min_shard_bytes, max_shard_bytes], even), later packets must match the pin, and the per-frame block ceiling derives from the pinned size (a session-level cap would reject legitimate post-shrink frames). The reorder race between an ordered control message and unordered video dies structurally: old-geometry frames in flight complete under their own pin while new frames arrive under the new one, and no cross-geometry splice can land in one buffer. The in-flight budget stays byte-based and exact. - W0.2 — MAX_DATAGRAM_BYTES 2048 → 9216: every receive path (transport RECV_BUF, the recvmmsg ring) now accepts sealed jumbo datagrams (9000-MTU LAN ≈ 8908-byte shards). Static buffers over resize-on-ack: the ring delta is 128 × ~7 KiB ≈ 896 KiB per client session, lazily allocated, hosts unaffected. Grep verdict: no embedder uses the constant directly, so no C ABI bump — the regenerated header rides along (drift gate). - W0.3 — trailing Hello field max_shard_payload: u16 (0/absent = legacy), the append-with-placeholder discipline of video_caps/ client_caps. One field is both the renegotiation capability flag and the jumbo ceiling; core's pump advertises it for all client families, the probe too. - Host seam for Phase 1, dead until wired: Packetizer::set_shard_payload (re-derives the block ceilings; construction delegates to it) + Session::set_shard_payload (host-only, Config::validate parity). Verification (the 0.23.0 lesson — geometry changes breed sizing bugs): the slice-wire suite re-runs at shard 512/1216/1408/8908 (exact-multiple sweep, lossy + reversed roundtrips, sentinel path, in-flight budget); mid-stream shrink→grow→revert delivery; the old-geometry reorder race; cross-geometry splice rejection; firewall bounds non-vacuous both ways; a 48-case mixed-geometry reorder-torture proptest asserting per-frame byte-identical DELIVERY and an exactly-zero final budget; and a sealed loopback session test (continuous crypto/replay) delivering frames across live re-keys — every test asserts delivered frames, never the absence of errors. core: 294/294 --features quic + clippy -D warnings (macOS), fmt. |

The capture-latched client (console.rs latched_mouse) never advertises CLIENT_CAP_CURSOR, so its session resolved cursor_blend=false and asked Mutter to EMBED the pointer. On a Mutter virtual stream that is a fiction: since Mutter 48 (7ff5334a, hw-cursor inhibition removed) the software cursor overlay is suppressed stage-globally whenever any physical head realizes a HW cursor — dmabuf-recorded frames blit the view without a pointer, and cursor-only motion schedules no re-record either (mutter#4939). Probed on-glass on Mutter 50.3: embedded + relative motion = frozen frame counter; SPA_META_Cursor positions kept flowing in the same setup. So the no-channel session now takes the path that was verified end to end: cursor-as-metadata + the host composites, permanently — the same arm a channel session lands in after its capture-model flip. Embedded remains only the can't-blend fallback (libav VAAPI/NVENC, software). - session_plan::cursor_blend_for grows the no-channel arm (codec + depth in, the same CUDA-payload prediction handshake makes); gamescope excluded so patch-2+ keeps its native-NV12 zero-copy shape - the encode loop's composite refresh + one-shot breadcrumbs now cover the no-channel session; the park schedule keeps retrying while its composite is starved (relative-only clients cannot park themselves) - the compositor retarget re-applies set_hw_cursor — the rebuilt display used to come up EMBEDDED even for channel sessions - the GameStream virtual source takes the same rule (it never has a channel); its stream_body blend flag mirrors the request - punktfunk-probe grows --cursor-nochannel (the latched-capture client, headless); cursor-probe grows --dump (PPM frames + a content-change counter, the pixel evidence the embedded A/B lacked) Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(devtools): reproduce the capture-model cursor path without a real client
punktfunk-probe grows --cursor-capture: advertise CLIENT_CAP_CURSOR, flip the channel to the capture model (CursorRenderMode client_draws= false), and wiggle RELATIVE pointer motion for the whole dump — decode the .h265 and the host-composited pointer must be in the pixels. Plus --codec pyrowave (advertised only on request so the dump format of existing recipes never changes). tools/cursor-probe stands up the capture side alone: virtual output with the out-of-band cursor, production PipeWire capturer, production injector, absolute then relative motion — and reports whether SPA_META_Cursor ever yields an overlay. It is how Mutter's pointer-in-stream metadata gate was isolated on-glass. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

chore(unsafe): the workspace adopts the drivers' unsafe discipline
`packaging/windows/drivers/*` has run `deny(unsafe_op_in_unsafe_fn)` +
`deny(clippy::undocumented_unsafe_blocks)` for a while, with `forbid(unsafe_code)`
on the modules that need no unsafe at all. The main workspace had no lint config
whatsoever, so nothing stopped a clean crate from quietly growing an `unsafe`, and
nothing distinguished the handful of genuinely-unsafe lines inside a 600-line
`unsafe fn` from the safe ones surrounding them.
Three things, all mechanical:
* `#![forbid(unsafe_code)]` on the eight crates that already contain zero unsafe
(`pf-driver-proto`, `pf-host-config`, `pf-paths`, the three clean clients, both
tools). These were clean by accident, not by contract; now they are clean by
contract.
* `unsafe_op_in_unsafe_fn = "warn"` workspace-wide. `unsafe fn` states a contract
the CALLER must uphold — it was never meant to switch off checking for the whole
body. Measured fallout is 300 sites on Linux, and they are concentrated: six
files carry all of them, while `punktfunk-core`, `pf-frame`, `pf-clipboard` and
`pf-vdisplay` are already at zero. `warn` (not `deny`) so the build stays green
while those six are worked down; it flips to `deny` once they are. This is also
the Rust 2024 default, so it pays off the edition migration early.
* `proc::current_uid()` replaces eight `unsafe { libc::getuid() }` blocks. Each
site had copied out the same SAFETY note verbatim, which is the tell: `getuid()`
is parameterless, always succeeds and touches no memory, so there is no contract
for a caller to uphold and no reason for the unsafe to be visible eight times.
One `unsafe` behind a safe wrapper, none at the call sites.
Verified: `pf-vdisplay` builds clean on Linux (Nobara) at zero E0133; the
macOS-buildable crates build clean locally. No behaviour change.

feat(core+host+client): cursor channel — remote-desktop sweep M2a+M2b
The host cursor stops riding the video and becomes a real OS cursor on the client (the Parsec/RDP model): pointer feel no longer pays the capture→encode→network→decode→present round trip. Wire (M2a): - Hello grows a client_caps trailing byte (CLIENT_CAP_CURSOR) after the fixed display_hdr block — presence disambiguated by remaining length, which caps the post-HDR tail at 27 bytes (documented); Welcome answers HOST_CAP_CURSOR (capable-and-asked, the 444/clipboard precedent). - CursorShape (0x50, control stream): serial + dims + hotspot + straight RGBA, ≤120px/side so the u16 frame always fits (128² would overshoot); client caches by serial — re-showing a known shape costs 14 bytes, not a bitmap (RDP pointer-cache for free). - CursorState (0xD0 datagram): serial + visible/relative_hint flags + position, sent once per encode-loop tick — latest-wins, self-healing under loss, no refresh timer. relative_hint is reserved for M3. - Client core: two new planes (control-task + datagram-task arms) → next_cursor_shape/next_cursor_state; connect() grows client_caps (C ABI passes 0 until the v11 cursor poll fns exist). Host (M2b, Linux portal only): - handshake::cursor_forward is THE predicate (client asked ∧ Linux ∧ compositor ≠ gamescope) — Welcome bit and session wiring both read it. - SessionPlan.cursor_blend goes false for a forwarding session; the encode loop ticks a CursorForwarder every iteration: shape-serial diff → control-task bridge (mirrors probe_result), state datagram → conn. - CursorOverlay/capture CursorState carry the hotspot through (nearest-neighbor downscale backstop for XL cursors, unit-tested). Presenter: - CursorChannel drains both planes per loop iteration; shapes become SDL color cursors (from_surface + hotspot), applied while the desktop mouse model is engaged; visibility follows the host; capture/released hands back the system cursor. Sessions advertise the cap when they START in desktop mode. Verified on .21: fmt + clippy -D warnings (7 crates) + tests green (core 218 incl. new wire roundtrips, host 245 incl. e2e + forwarder downscale tests). Lifts the ~100 Mbps decrypt ceiling on clients without hardware AES — the armv7 soft-AES targets (webOS TVs), where AES-128-GCM resolves to fixsliced software AES + software GHASH (~50-100 cpb) while ChaCha20-Poly1305's ARX construction runs ~10-17 cpb portable, a 4-7x lift that PyroWave-on-TV needs (design/chacha20-session-cipher.md). Phase 1 (core crypto, no wire change): SessionKey merges cipher choice and key material (invalid combinations unrepresentable, zeroize + redacted-Debug discipline kept); SessionCrypto dispatches both aead-0.5 ciphers per call — the salt||seq nonce scheme, per-direction salts, seq-as-AAD and replay window carry over verbatim (same 96-bit nonce / 16-byte tag, const-asserted). Config.key becomes SessionKey; validate's zero-key rejection follows the active variant. The C ABI keeps its fixed 16-byte key mapped to AES — no ABI_VERSION bump. Phase 2 (negotiation): VIDEO_CAP_CHACHA20 (0x40) — support-plus-request in one bit, the VIDEO_CAP_444 precedent. Welcome grows cipher@68 + key_chacha@69..101, emitted only when non-zero so an AES session's Welcome stays byte-identical to the pre-cipher form; decode is fail-closed (short key or unknown id -> Err, never a silent AES fallback). No WIRE_VERSION bump; downgrade resistance inherited from the pinned-TLS control channel. Phase 3 (host): grant only when the client advertised the bit and the PUNKTFUNK_CHACHA20 kill-switch (default on, documented) allows; fresh 32-byte per-session key from the same RNG discipline, legacy key field stays independently random; resolved cipher logged at session start. Verification: seal/open suites parameterized over both ciphers + a cross-cipher tamper case; Welcome roundtrip/truncation/fail-closed tests; ChaCha lossy-loopback soak (loss/replay is cipher-independent); bench gains _chacha20 series (AES ids unchanged for CI history) — host-side sealing line-rate-trivial on both x86 (~640 MiB/s) and Apple Silicon (~535 MiB/s). punktfunk-probe drives the interop matrix via PUNKTFUNK_CLIENT_CHACHA20=1 and logs the negotiated cipher. Phase 4 (pf-webos pin bump + unconditional cap bit) follows the next core release. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

`ci.yml`'s clippy gate has been failing on main since the pre-0.16.0 sweep landed, and because clippy stops at the first crate it can't compile, the visible error was only ever the first of four. `ci.yml` is not tag-triggered, so v0.16.0 cut and shipped over a red main; none of this reaches the release artifacts (the two E0308s are in a test binary and a dev tool, and the rest are lints) but the gate has been blind since. Fixed, in the order clippy surfaced them: - clients/probe failed to COMPILE (E0308, x2). `810d918d` moved `clock_sync` onto the resumable `io::MsgReader` but only updated the client pump, leaving the probe passing a bare `&mut RecvStream`. The probe now wraps the control stream in a `MsgReader` at `open_bi` and threads that everywhere — Welcome, the --remode and --bitrate watchers, and the speed-test result read — which is also what the refactor was for: those reads sit behind timeouts and `select!`, exactly where a straddling frame would desync the stream for the rest of the run. - pf-capture: `SPA_META_Cursor as u32` is a `u32 -> u32` no-op (`clippy::unnecessary_cast`). Line 1274 already passes the same constant uncast, so the type is not in question. - pf-inject: `noop as usize` on the SIGUSR1 wake handler added in `986402f7` trips `clippy::function_casts_as_integer`; goes via `*const ()` as the lint asks. Same value in the `usize`-typed `sa_sigaction` slot. - punktfunk-core: the `ctrl_framing` test module's `use super::*` is unused, which `-D warnings` promotes to an error. Verified with CI's own commands on a Linux box (this is all Linux-gated code, so a Mac cannot check it): `cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets --locked -- -D warnings` finishes clean, `cargo build --workspace --locked` succeeds, and `cargo test --workspace --locked` exits 0 with no failures — including punktfunk-core's 196-test suite, which covers the control-stream framing the probe change touches. design/latency-reduction-2026-07.md T0.1/T0.2/T1.2/T1.3:
- T1.2 rate-capped front-loaded pacing: the paced overflow's budget is now
min(0.9x slack, overflow wire time at ~3x the live encoder bitrate)
(PUNKTFUNK_PACE_FACTOR, 0 = legacy deadline-only spread). A 300 KB-1 MB
frame's tail leaves in ~2-5 ms instead of smearing across ~15 ms at 60 fps;
GameStream schedule byte-identical (pins unchanged).
- T1.3 data-first wire order: packetize emits every block's data shards before
any parity (per-block parity pools keep all blocks' parity alive for the
second pass), so lossless completion stops waiting behind the parity tail.
EOF = last emitted packet; receiver already order-agnostic.
- T0.1 staged 0xCF: HostTiming gains an append-extensible per-stage tail
(queue/encode/pace us; seal+channel-wait derived as residual) - no cap bit
needed, old peers read the 13-byte prefix. Joined client-side into

- T0.2 true on-glass present timing: VK_KHR_present_id/present_wait enabled

Reversed/reordered delivery lets a FEC block reconstruct EARLY (data + recovery >= k), counting still-in-flight shards into fec_recovered_shards; window_loss_ppm then reported pure reordering as loss, inflating LossReports — which size adaptive FEC and, since the Automatic overhaul, feed the ABR controller (one severe window ends slow start FOR GOOD, so a reorder burst could permanently kneecap a session's climb). Early reconstruct stays (it's the latency-right choice); the accounting now nets it out. The reassembler counts a new fec_late_shards stat when a parity-restored data shard ARRIVES after all — matched exactly: the completed/abandoned-frame memory (ReassemblyWindow::completed, now a map) remembers which shards each terminal frame reconstructed, and a late arrival must match one (removed on hit), so wire duplicates of delivered shards and stragglers of failed blocks count nothing. In-flight blocks dedup via have_data. window_loss_ppm takes the late delta and estimates from (recovered - late), saturating across window boundaries; both callers (client core + probe) pass it. The e2e reorder tests now assert the NET equals the true kill count in both delivery orders, dup included (previously documented as a known inflation). Not mirrored into the C-ABI PunktfunkStats — the loss windows run in-core on every platform. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

The gpu-session TrackedEncoder wrapper delegates every Encoder method by hand, so the new reconfigure_bitrate fell through to the trait's false default and EVERY bitrate change silently took the rebuild+IDR path — the live .21 A/B caught it (host log said 'rebuilt', never 'in place'). Also: - punktfunk-probe --rebitrate KBPS:SECS — headless mid-stream SetBitrate validator (cursor-wiggles so a damage-driven idle desktop keeps publishing frames through the switch). Live-verified on .21: one NVENC session open, then 'encoder bitrate reconfigured in place (adaptive bitrate — no IDR)' at 20→60 Mbps. - on-hardware nvenc_cuda reconfigure smoke test (20→60→10 Mbps in place, zero IDRs — green on the RTX 5070 Ti). - BitrateChanged doc no longer claims the switch costs an IDR. fix(probe,scripts): make speed-test sweeps work headless and tell the truth
Three bugs found running the owed throughput sweeps (all three conspired to make yesterday's 'transport does 1G+' numbers fabrications): - the probe never advertised VIDEO_CAP_PROBE_SEQ, so every host DECLINED its speed tests; the zeroed decline reply divided a settle-window sliver by 1 ms and printed plausible-looking garbage. Advertise the cap (the shared-core reassembler windows probe-space frames) and detect the all-zero decline explicitly. - an idle virtual desktop publishes no frames on damage-driven capture (Windows IDD-push), so the pipeline build timed out before the burst could run. The probe now injects a ±2 px cursor wiggle over the wire during --speed-test warmup — injected host-side into the right session, works headless everywhere. - throughput-sweep.py: tracing emits ANSI color into pipes, which broke the key=value parser (crash on the first point); strip it, guard half-parsed lines, and surface host declines as a flag. Also logs the whole-run receive stage split (PUNKTFUNK_PERF) at stream end — the probe is the measurement tool for the client-pump wall. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(rumble): host-authoritative self-terminating envelopes (0xCA v2)
Rumble was level-triggered, unbounded state on a lossy channel: a non-zero level meant "buzz until further notice", healed only by the host re-sending state every 500 ms, and every client guessed when the host had died with its own magic timeout (SDL 1.5 s, Apple 1.6 s, Android up to 60 s). A lost stop, a reordered start, or a dead host could drone the motor for seconds. Make "stuck rumble" inexpressible on the wire. The 0xCA datagram grows a length-tolerant tail — [u8 seq][u16 ttl_ms] — so it self-terminates: the host authorizes a level for at most ttl_ms and renews it (~120 ms) while it holds, letting an abandoned one lapse client-side. seq is a per-pad wrapping reorder gate (reusing GamepadSnapshot::seq_newer) so a reordered stale start can't re-light a stopped motor. Decoders read the first 7 bytes as a plain level and ignore the tail, so no wire-version bump: an old client renders a new host's levels, and a new client falls back to its prior staleness heuristic against an old host (ttl = None). All four generation pairings render correctly. - core: encode_rumble_datagram_v2 / decode_rumble_envelope (datagram.rs); the client demux applies the seq gate then forwards (pad, low, high, Option<ttl>); next_rumble is unchanged (drops ttl), next_rumble_ttl keeps it; ABI adds punktfunk_connection_next_rumble2 + PUNKTFUNK_RUMBLE_NO_TTL, ABI_VERSION 4->5 (WIRE_VERSION unchanged — the tail is backward-compatible). - host (punktfunk1.rs): the flat 500 ms refresh becomes a renewal loop that bumps seq + stamps a fresh TTL on active pads and drains a short post-stop zero burst, then goes quiet. Hatches: PUNKTFUNK_RUMBLE_ENVELOPE=0 (legacy v1 + flat refresh, a bisect switch), PUNKTFUNK_RUMBLE_TTL_MS (clamped [150, 5000]). - renderers honor the TTL as their playback duration/deadline and keep their old heuristic only for a legacy (ttl=None) update: pf-client-core (the Deck haptic keep-alive is now deadline-bounded so it can't sustain a host-stopped rumble), clients/windows (SDL duration), android (JNI packs the lease out-of-band in bit 48 so any u16 ttl is unambiguous; Kotlin createOneShot(ttl)), apple (RumbleRenderer.envelopeDeadline + nextRumble2; sessionStaleSeconds demoted to the legacy fallback). - tests: codec round-trip + tail tolerance + seq-gate reorder (Rust); the probe asserts the v2 tail arrived under PUNKTFUNK_TEST_FEEDBACK; the Apple loopback asserts ttlMs round-trips end to end; RumbleTuning lease-decision cases. The host-side idle-timeout from the previous commit is defense in depth on the game side; this is the guarantee on the client side. Design: punktfunk-planning/design/rumble-envelope-plan.md. design/windows-parallel-virtual-displays.md (display-management Stage 7 / §6.6): N simultaneously-live pf-vdisplay monitors, one sealed ring each, every idd-push-security invariant preserved per-ring. - proto v3: SharedHeader._pad → target_id — the ring NAMES its monitor, host-stamped before the magic; the driver publisher refuses a cross-bound ring via the shared, unit-tested frame::check_attach (new DRV_STATUS_BIND_FAIL — the gamepad pad_index validation applied to frames, invariant #10); the host's wait_for_attach surfaces the refusal loudly and self-checks its own stamp. - manager: the one-monitor MgrState becomes a slot map keyed by the client's identity slot (0 = anonymous/GameStream); per-slot reconnect + dead-WUDFHost preempts, slot-scoped begin_idd_setup (a different identity is an admission question, never a preempt), ONE device-level watchdog pinger, per-slot /display/state + /display/release. - group topology: isolate_displays_ccd takes the managed target SET (a sibling slot is never deactivated); SavedConfig + the DDC/PnP axes move to the group record (first-in captures, last-out restores); desktop layout via CCD source origins from the pure layout::arrange (auto-row default, manual pins win), re-applied on create + reconfigure. - admission: the Windows separate→reject override now sits behind the PUNKTFUNK_WIN_SEPARATE=1 validation hatch (the wedge it guarded is structurally gone — a second identity gets its own monitor + ring; default flips in W5 after soak); max_displays and NVENC session-unit budgets decline an unaffordable display AT admission; kick_dwm_compose is process-globally throttled and per-display — cursor jump + 35 ms dwell (a sub-tick jump composes nothing; DWM reads dirties from current state at the next vsync tick). On-glass on the RTX box: V1/V2/V4/V5/V6/V9 green — two paired clients on two monitors streaming ~60 fps each with zero mismatches and zero bind failures, churn-hammer clean (no 0x80070490), per-ring mode-change recreate leaves the sibling untouched, typed budget rejection, fault-injected cross-bind refused loudly with the sibling undisturbed. V7: WUDFHost-kill shared fate is clean; in-process device recovery is a known follow-up (the retired-never-closed control handles block the adapter cycle — reset-pf-vdisplay.ps1 recovers). DWM composes two IDD monitors concurrently at 60 fps — the plan's load-bearing unknown, answered yes. Also carries the client-HDR EDID forwarding that shared this working tree (Hello::display_hdr → AddRequest luminance tail → the monitor's CTA-861.3 HDR block, PUNKTFUNK_CLIENT_PEAK_NITS hatch) and the Deck client fixes (40 ms rumble keep-alive with 1-LSB jitter, HDR self-diagnosing presenter warn, flatpak HDR env). feat(core): mid-stream clock re-sync — live offset survives wall-clock steps and drift
Networking-audit deferred plan §2. The host↔client offset was measured once at connect; an NTP step or slow drift silently corrupted the clock-based jump-to-live signal, the ABR one-way-delay signal, and every latency stat — 4a3b1ae2's disarm backstop stopped the IDR storm but lost the detector for the session. Now the client re-estimates mid-stream and recovers it. - quic: ClockResync — the connect-time 8-round probe/echo estimate as a select!-driven state machine (rounds matched by echoed t1, stale batches ignored), plus accept_resync (batch min-RTT ≤ max(2 ms, 1.5× connect RTT) so a congested window can never bias the offset). No wire change: the host has always answered ClockProbe at any time on the control stream. - client: the offset lives in an Arc<AtomicI64> seeded at connect; the control task re-probes every 60 s and immediately after the pump's FIRST no-op clock flush (the "clock stepped under me" signal, sent on the next report tick). On apply: store, reset stale_frames/noop_clock_flushes, re-arm the clock detector if a step had disarmed it. The disarm heuristic stays as the final backstop. Public NativeClient::clock_offset_ns keeps the connect-time value (ABI untouched); new clock_offset_now_ns() / clock_offset_shared() expose the live value. - consumers migrated to the live offset: pf-client-core session stats, the pf-presenter e2e stamp, Windows session/render, Android feeder/drain/ DisplayTracker (the tracker holds the shared handle, not the client, so the leaked render-callback refcount can't pin the session). - probe: --clock-resync runs a second full handshake mid-connection and asserts a sane, consistent estimate. Live against the local canary host: offsets 8646/2139 ns, disagreement 6 µs, 8/8 rounds — OK. Unit tests cover the round collection, stale-echo rejection, batch restart, min-RTT selection, and the acceptance guard. cargo ndk check green. Remaining manual validation: `sudo date -s "+2 sec"` on a live streaming client → expect one no-op flush, a re-sync, re-armed detector, no IDR pulse. fix(security): anti-replay, 0600 client key, open redirect, supply-chain
Address findings from a repo security review:
- core: add a sliding-window anti-replay filter over the AEAD-authenticated
sequence in Session (poll_input/poll_frame), closing the input-replay gap the
data plane previously left to the LAN/VPN trust assumption. 4096-deep window,
unit-tested; the encrypted loopback suite confirms no false drops.
- clients: write the mTLS client private key 0600 and lock the config dir 0700
on Unix (it was world-readable at the umask default), re-locking existing
stores on load. pf-client-core::trust plus the probe's own identity writer.
Windows keeps the %APPDATA% ACL; Android/Apple already wrap the key.
- web: fix a post-login open redirect — resolve `next` via URL and require it to
stay same-origin, rejecting `/\evil.com` and tab/encoding variants the old
`!startsWith("//")` guard missed. Also fixes the dead safeNextPath helper.
- ci: SHA-256-pin the BtbN FFmpeg DLLs bundled into the signed Windows installer
(were fetched from the rolling `latest` tag unverified); fails closed on a
re-roll, matching the VB-CABLE gate.
- ci: fail-open fork-guard on the Windows/Apple host-mode PR build jobs that
share runner labels with the signing jobs. Definitive fix stays server-side
(Gitea outside-collaborator approval / isolated PR runners) — see the notes.

feat(host): game-mode integration + dedicated game sessions
Implements design/gamemode-and-dedicated-sessions.md (Parts A1-A5 + B0-B2):
reconciles the merged display-management registry with session-mobile
Bazzite/SteamOS hosts and adds a per-launch dedicated gamescope mode.
- A1 DisplayOwnership {Owned,External,SessionManaged} + poolable_now(): the
registry pools only what it owns, so gamescope managed/attach outputs are no
longer double-owned by the registry AND the gamescope restore worker (fixes
the game-mode-reconnect stale-node wedge).
- A2 validated reuse: (backend,mode,launch,epoch) reuse key + kept_display_alive
liveness probe + reused_gen/mark_failed on a reused-display first-frame failure.
- A3 policy-driven managed restore (keep_alive replaces the hardcoded 5s debounce;
forever = held = gaming-rig truthful) + crash-restore persist + SIGKILL teardown
(kill_unit, applied to our transient unit AND the autologin stop -- validated
live on .181 to avoid the F44 GPU-context leak).
- A4 session epoch: observe_session_instance bumps the epoch + invalidate_backend
on a desktop-compositor instance change; gamescope spawns are exempt.
- A5 per-spawn log + PID-scoped gamescope node discovery.
- B0 game_session {auto,dedicated} policy (top-level, preset-orthogonal) +
pick_gamescope_mode dedicated_launch + steam -silent command shaping.
- B1 free the autologin Steam before a dedicated Steam spawn (single-instance).
- B2 game-exit -> APP_EXITED_CLOSE_CODE (0x52) clean session end.
Adversarially reviewed (11 findings fixed). Validated on glass (.181 Bazzite F44,
RTX 4090): dedicated spawn streams a real game smoothly; keep-alive reuse; the
SIGKILL fix avoids the F44 vkCreateDevice leak. Workspace green
(build / test --workspace / clippy -D warnings / fmt), OpenAPI + C header
regenerated, web console tsc + vite build green. clients/probe: bump the
no-video timeout 8s->45s for gamescope cold starts.

Two probe test-infra fixes needed to validate the keep-alive hardening (
|

|
|
e8531a9eac |
feat(vdisplay): harden keep-alive reconnect — same-client preempt, quit-skips-linger, configurable idle
On-glass testing (Test 2, KWin .116) surfaced that a reconnect within the QUIC idle-timeout window (~8s) lands on a fresh SECOND display instead of reusing the kept one: the old session was still Active (not yet Lingering), so the registry's keep-alive reuse (which only matches Lingering) skipped it and the old session kept streaming to nobody. Three fixes: #3 Same-client reconnect preempt (the real fix): admission::preempt_same_identity() lists a reconnecting client's OWN still-live session(s) (same cert fingerprint); serve_session signals their stop + waits the release grace BEFORE acquiring, so the zombie tears down → its display lingers → the reconnect REUSES it instead of making a second. Implements the "preempts downstream" the admission docs already promised. Independent of the mode_conflict policy; the pure core (same_identity_stops) is unit-tested. #2 Deliberate quit skips linger: a client that deliberately disconnects closes the QUIC connection with QUIT_CLOSE_CODE (0x51, shared in core::quic); the host reads the ApplicationClosed reason and tears the display down immediately (registry release() gained force_immediate → Linger::Immediate; multi-session-safe via the pure lifecycle machine), while a bare disconnect still lingers for reconnect. Threaded via a session quit flag → the DisplayLease. NativeClient::disconnect_quit() + punktfunk-probe --quit drive it; GameStream (Quit App / h_cancel) is a documented follow-up. #1 Configurable disconnect-detection latency: the QUIC control-connection idle timeout (stream_transport, 8s default) is host-tunable via --idle-timeout-ms / PUNKTFUNK_IDLE_TIMEOUT_MS, clamped >=1s with a keep-alive that scales to it so a live session never false-closes. Default unchanged (8s stays load-bearing for the Windows IDD-push reconnect flow). Workspace check + 63 core / 215 host / 47 vdisplay tests green; clippy clean. fix(core): split WIRE_VERSION from ABI_VERSION — new clients locked out of every deployed host
ABI_VERSION was doing double duty: the embeddable C surface AND the punktfunk/1
Hello/Welcome version that hosts equality-check. The WoL feature's v3 bump added
a client-local FFI function without changing a single wire byte — and every new
client started refusing against every deployed host ("ABI mismatch: client 3
host 2", observed live Deck → Bazzite). The wire now carries its own
WIRE_VERSION (still 2); ABI_VERSION stays 3 for the C header and the mgmt API's
informational field. Bump WIRE_VERSION only when the handshake/planes actually
change incompatibly.

feat(probe): --mic-burst — real-client mic pacing for jitter-buffer regression tests
The steady 5 ms mic-test cadence never trips host-side buffering bugs: the WASAPI crackle (fixed in the previous commit) only reproduced under a real client's bursty input tap. --mic-burst paces the tone the same way (two 20 ms Opus packets every 40 ms), so recording the host mic and counting silence gaps regression-tests the jitter buffer headlessly. Validated against the fixed Windows host on the lab box: 15 s of bursty tone, zero mid-stream gaps >=3 ms (gaps confined to the first 40 ms priming window). feat(protocol): per-AU host-timing plane (0xCF) — split host+network latency (stats phase 2)
The unified-stats equation's host+network stage was one opaque number because the wire carried nothing but pts_ns. Now the host reports its own share per frame: when the client's Hello sets VIDEO_CAP_HOST_TIMING (0x08), the send thread emits a 13-byte 0xCF datagram — [tag][pts_ns u64][host_us u32] — right after the AU's last packet leaves the socket, so host_us = capture→fully-sent (capture read/convert, encode, FEC+seal, paced send) against the same anchor the wire pts carries. Clients correlate by pts_ns and derive network = (received + clock_offset − pts) − host_us; the two terms tile per frame by construction. Back-compat is free in all four combinations: old clients ignore unknown datagram tags, old hosts ignore unknown cap bits (client keeps the combined stage). The hardened data-plane format is untouched — this rides the established QUIC side-plane pattern (0xC8…0xCE). NativeClient ORs the bit in unconditionally and exposes next_host_timing(); the C ABI gains PunktfunkHostTiming + punktfunk_connection_next_host_timing (additive). The synthetic host emits 0xCF too, so pure-loopback protocol tests cover the plane. The probe reports the split (host_p50/p95_us · net_p50/p95_us) and is our direct analogue of Sunshine's "host processing latency" — ours additionally includes the paced send. Validated on loopback (synthetic host + probe, debug build): 240/240 AUs matched, host_p50 6.5 ms + net_p50 6.4 ms ≈ capture→received p50 13.0 ms. Core suite + new 0xCF roundtrip/truncation test green; host+core+probe clippy clean. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(clients): unified stats vocabulary across every client + Moonlight comparison docs
One stat model everywhere (design/stats-unification.md): four measurement points (capture/received/decoded/displayed), three stages that tile the interval exactly, and a HUD that shows the addition explicitly — end-to-end 14.2 ms p50 · 19.8 p95 · capture→on-glass = host+network 9.8 + decode 2.1 + display 2.3 replacing each client's ad-hoc mix of overlapping absolutes (the Apple HUD's three arrow lines that looked sequential but weren't), mean-vs-median decode times (Windows/Linux), missing same-host-clock flags (Windows/Linux), and three different names for the same capture→received measurement (probe's "reassembled", Apple/Android's "client", Windows/Linux's post-decode "lat"). Per client: Apple threads receivedNs through the VT decode via the frame refcon bit pattern so the decode stage exists at all (stage-1 fallback honestly degrades to a capture→received headline); Windows carries FrameTimes through the existing frame channel to the render thread and adds e2e p50/p95 post-Present; Linux stamps received at AU pop and rides decoded_ns on DecodedFrame to the paintable-set site; Android pairs receipt stamps with MediaCodec output buffers via the codec's pts round-trip (JNI stats array 14→16 doubles, indexes 0-13 unchanged). fps now uniformly counts received AUs; lost/(received+lost) per window, hidden at zero. docs-site gains "Understanding the Stats Overlay": what each line means, why the equation only approximately sums (percentiles), and a line-by-line Moonlight/Sunshine matrix — including that Moonlight has no end-to-end number and its "network latency" is an ENet control RTT, so punktfunk's headline must not be compared against any single Moonlight line. Verified here: linux client + probe + core check/clippy/fmt green, android native cargo-ndk arm64 check green. Pending: Windows CI + on-glass, swift test on the mac, on-device Android. feat(host,probe): controlled loss injection for the native path + probe keyframe-on-drop
PUNKTFUNK_VIDEO_DROP now also covers the native data plane (N% of sealed wire packets discarded before send in paced_submit — the same FEC-test knob the GameStream path has; no netem/root needed), and the probe grows the real clients' recovery trigger: the data loop publishes the session's unrecoverable-frame count and the control task sends RequestKeyframe when it rises (100ms poll = natural coalescing). Together these make the IDR-vs-intra-refresh recovery A/B runnable against any host. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(protocol,clients): codec preference negotiation + Linux client decodes per Welcome (Phase 2a)
Adds a client-selectable **preferred codec** and wires the core + ABI + probe + Linux client to
negotiate and decode it. (Windows/Apple/Android follow in 2b.)
**Core:**
- `Hello.preferred_codec` (a single CODEC_* bit, 0 = auto) — a soft hint appended after
`video_codecs`. `resolve_codec(client, host, preferred)` now honors the preference when the host
can also emit it, else falls back to precedence (HEVC > AV1 > H.264). Roundtrip + preference tests.
- `NativeClient::connect` takes `video_codecs` + `preferred_codec`; `NativeClient.codec` exposes the
resolved `Welcome.codec`.
- ABI: `punktfunk_connect_ex7` (adds the two codec params; `ex6` delegates to it advertising
HEVC-only) + `punktfunk_connection_codec` getter + `PUNKTFUNK_CODEC_{H264,HEVC,AV1}` constants
(drift-guarded against the wire values). Header regenerated.
**Host:** passes `hello.preferred_codec` into `resolve_codec`.
**probe:** `--codec h264|hevc|av1|auto` sets the preference (still advertises it can decode all
three); the dump extension already follows the resolved codec.
**Linux client:** advertises the codecs FFmpeg can actually decode (`decodable_codecs()`), threads
the user's `codec` setting as the preference, and builds the decoder — both the software and VAAPI
paths, plus the mid-session VAAPI→software demotion — from the negotiated `Welcome.codec` instead of
hardcoding HEVC. New "Video codec" dropdown in Preferences (Automatic/HEVC/H.264/AV1).
Live-validated on the dev box: probe `--codec hevc` against a software (H.264-only) host resolves to
H.264 (graceful soft-preference fallback), no failure. clippy + core (57) + host (133) tests green.

feat(protocol,host): negotiate video codec + add a GPU-less software (openh264) encode path
Phase 1 of codec negotiation, and the Linux software H.264 encode path it unblocks. **Codec negotiation (core `quic`):** - `Hello.video_codecs` (bitfield: CODEC_H264/HEVC/AV1) — the client advertises what it can decode; appended as a trailing byte (older client → 0 = HEVC-only, back-compat). - `Welcome.codec` — the single codec the host resolved and will emit; trailing byte (older host → HEVC). - `resolve_codec(client, host_capable)` picks the shared codec (precedence HEVC > AV1 > H.264) or `None` → the host refuses honestly rather than sending an undecodable stream. - Roundtrip + back-compat tests; cbindgen exports the CODEC_* constants. **Software encoder (host):** - The openh264 `OpenH264Encoder` (was Windows-only) is now built on Linux too — it's platform-agnostic (consumes CPU RGB `CapturedFrame`s, statically-bundled openh264). `openh264` moved to the shared linux+windows Cargo target. - `PUNKTFUNK_ENCODER=software` selects it: `open_video` gains a `software` branch (H.264 only), and `session_plan::resolve_encoder` / `capture::gpu_encode` resolve `EncoderBackend::Software` → `output_format().gpu = false`, so the portal capturer delivers CPU RGB. Explicit-only (auto never picks it — a box with a dead driver still has /dev/nvidiactl and would mis-resolve NVENC). **Host codec resolution (`punktfunk1`):** - The native path no longer hardcodes HEVC: it resolves the codec from the client's advertised set ∩ the host's capability (`Codec::host_wire_caps`: software→H.264, else HEVC), threads it through `SessionPlan.codec`, and opens the encoder + validates reconfigures at that codec. A software host + HEVC-only client is refused with a clear error. - 4:4:4 is gated on HEVC (it's HEVC-only). **Probe:** advertises H264|HEVC|AV1 and logs the resolved codec. Validated on the GPU-less dev box: negotiation is live end-to-end (probe advertises 0x07 → host resolves H.264 → Welcome reports it → plan = Software/H264), and the openh264 unit test (CPU RGB → AnnexB IDR) now runs on Linux. Full capture→encode still needs a GPU on this box — every compositor screencast path (KWin GL, gamescope VK_EXT_physical_device_drm, wlroots EGL) requires one; software render (llvmpipe/pixman) can't be captured — so this box exercises negotiation + encoder, not live capture. The software path unblocks GPU-less-*encode* boxes that still have a display GPU. Phase 2 (clients advertising real codecs + decoding per Welcome.codec) is a follow-up. feat(audio): end-to-end 5.1/7.1 surround across the native path + all clients
Adds negotiated 5.1/7.1 surround to the punktfunk/1 protocol and every client (previously stereo-only): - core: new shared `audio` layout table (LAYOUT_51/71 + identity multistream mapping, canonical wire order FL FR FC LFE RL RR SL SR); Hello/Welcome `audio_channels` negotiation via the trailing-byte back-compat pattern (old peers fall back to stereo); C-ABI `punktfunk_connect_ex6`, `punktfunk_connection_audio_channels`, and in-core multistream decode `punktfunk_connection_next_audio_pcm` for embedders without a multistream Opus decoder. Real-libopus channel-identity round-trip test. - host: native audio thread captures + Opus-(multi)stream-encodes at the negotiated count (with a cross-session cached-capturer channel-mismatch fix); GameStream surround unified onto the safe `opus::MSEncoder`, dropping `audiopus_sys` (~4 unsafe blocks) and un-gating Windows GameStream surround; WASAPI loopback capture relaxed to 2/6/8 with the correct dwChannelMask. - clients: Linux (PipeWire), Windows (WASAPI), Android (AAudio) decode via `opus::MSDecoder` + render multichannel; Apple decodes in-core to PCM → AVAudioEngine with an explicit wire-order channel layout; each gains a Stereo/5.1/7.1 setting. `punktfunk-probe --audio-channels N` is the headless validator. Verified on Linux: core/host/linux/probe test suites + the Android Rust (cargo-ndk) build, clippy -D warnings, and rustfmt all green. Windows/Apple builds, all on-glass checks, and the live native loopback are pending (CI / a free box). Also lands the concurrent in-tree HEVC 4:4:4 host work (PUNKTFUNK_444): it shares the same touched files (quic.rs, punktfunk1.rs, encode/*, ...) and so cannot be committed separately from the surround changes. feat(gamepad): add virtual Xbox One/Series + DualShock 4 pad types
Extends virtual-controller support beyond Xbox 360 + DualSense. Goal: a physical Xbox One or PS4 pad on the client gets a near-native matching virtual pad on the host, auto-resolved from the controller type. Protocol/core: - GamepadPref gains XboxOne (wire 3) + DualShock4 (wire 4); to_u8/from_u8/ from_name/as_str + C ABI PUNKTFUNK_GAMEPAD_XBOXONE/_DUALSHOCK4 constants (compile-time guard ties them to the enum). Single-byte wire form is unchanged, so it's forward-compatible (older peers degrade to Auto). Host (Linux): - New UHID DualShock 4 backend (inject/dualshock4.rs) bound by hid-playstation: lightbar, touchpad, motion, rumble — DualSense minus adaptive triggers / player LEDs / mute. Reuses the DualSense pure state + button mapping; only the report byte layout, the real-DS4 HID descriptor, the GET_REPORT handshake (0x12 MAC mandatory; 0x02 calibration; 0xa3 firmware) and the touchpad resolution (1920x942) differ. Touchpad/motion ride the existing 0xCC plane, lightbar the 0xCD Led plane (deduped); rumble the universal 0xCA plane. - Xbox One/Series is the uinput Xbox-360 backend parameterized with the One S USB identity (045e:02ea) for matching glyphs — XInput-identical otherwise. - PadBackend dispatch + resolver handle both; off Linux the UHID pads and One/Series fold into Xbox 360. Windows-host DS4 (ViGEm) deferred. Clients (auto-resolve physical pad -> virtual type, plus manual settings): - Linux/Windows (SDL3): SDL_GAMEPAD_TYPE_PS4 -> DualShock 4, _XBOXONE -> Xbox One; PadInfo carries the resolved pref; DS4 touchpad/motion capture + lightbar already type-agnostic. Linux settings combo + label updated. - Apple (GameController): GCDualShockGamepad/GCXboxGamepad detection, DS4 touchpad capture, settings picker entries. - Android (Kotlin): InputDevice VID/PID auto-detect (matching the other clients) + settings entries. - probe: --gamepad help/aliases. Also hardens the Android JNI boundary: wrap the teardown + poll-thread shims in catch_unwind so a panic degrades to a logged no-op instead of aborting the app. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat: HDR Step-0 colour-metadata transport + security-audit hardening
Two strands, entangled in punktfunk1.rs, committed together (one builds-green tree). HDR pipeline Step 0 — glass-to-glass colour-metadata transport (docs/hdr-pipeline-plan.md): - Protocol/ABI: ColorInfo on the Welcome + a 0xCE HdrMeta datagram carry the source colour space + HDR10 static mastering metadata (quic.rs, abi.rs connect_ex5 fixing caps=0). - New platform-independent, unit-tested HDR static-metadata helpers (hdr.rs): chromaticities (1/50000), mastering luminance (0.0001 cd/m2), MaxCLL/MaxFALL in HDR10/ST.2086 units. - Capture/encode hooks (capture.rs, encode.rs set_hdr_meta) + Linux client / probe plumbing. Security-audit hardening — top 3 from docs/security-review.md, each adversarially verified: - #1 [HIGH] Secret file permissions. The host key.pem/cert.pem and both trust stores are now written owner-only: 0600 + dir 0700 on Unix (mirrors mgmt_token), best-effort SYSTEM/Administrators/OWNER-only icacls DACL on Windows (%ProgramData% is Users-readable). Closes a local key-disclosure -> host-impersonation gap. New gamestream::{create_private_dir, write_secret_file} + a 0600 regression test. - #2 [HIGH] Native SPAKE2 PIN is single-use. The PIN is consumed the moment the host sends its key-confirmation (which lets the client test its one guess), before reading the proof, so any completed attempt -- right OR wrong -- disarms the window. A wrong PIN isn't observable host-side (the client aborts before sending its proof), so consuming on first attempt is what delivers the documented "one online guess" instead of an unbounded brute-force of the static 4-digit PIN. Test verifies single-use. - #3 [MEDIUM] RTSP packetSize is bounded ([64,2048] in stream_config) and VideoPacketizer::new uses saturating .max(1), killing a PRE-AUTH div-by-zero/underflow panic of the video thread. Tests for {0,15,16,17} + out-of-range rejection. fmt + clippy -D warnings clean; full workspace test suite green (93 host tests). feat(core/fec): adaptive FEC — size recovery to measured loss, not a flat 20%
On a clean link the flat 20% FEC is pure waste: extra wire bytes AND extra
packets. On a packet-rate-bound uplink (the Steam Deck's WiFi tx caps ~22k pps
regardless of bitrate) those extra packets directly cost goodput — measured at
200 Mbps goodput, 20% FEC drove ~10% loss vs ~2.6% at 0% (it saturated the link).
Adaptive FEC closes the loop:
- Client measures the loss FEC is absorbing each ~750 ms window from session stats
(recovered shards / received, + a bump when a frame went unrecoverable) and sends
a periodic `LossReport { loss_ppm }` on the control stream (new message;
`window_loss_ppm` helper, shared + unit-tested). Connector (Apple/Linux/Windows)
and probe both report; suppressed during a speed test so its filler can't skew it.
- Host maps loss → recovery % (`adapt_fec`: ≈ loss×1.4 + 1pt, clamped 1..50) and
applies it live via `Session::set_fec_percent` (the wire is self-describing — each
packet carries its block's data/recovery counts, so the receiver needs no notice).
A clean link decays to ~1%; loss ramps it up and converges.
- `PUNKTFUNK_FEC_PCT`, when set, now PINS FEC static (disables adaptation) so
speed-test / measurement runs keep a fixed, known overhead. Unset ⇒ adaptive,
starting at 10%.
An older host ignores LossReport (unknown control message) and keeps static FEC;
an older client simply never reports and the host holds its start value. Builds +
clippy + fmt + tests green (adapt_fec / window_loss_ppm / loss_report unit tests).

fix(core/speed-test): packet-level throughput + paced burst (kill the 0/100% cliff)
The punktfunk/1 speed test was unusable across every client/host: at the start of a burst a little data got through, then everything read as dropped (~10 MB total). Two compounding bugs: 1. Receive side measured throughput from fully-reassembled FLAG_PROBE *access units* only. The instant loss crossed the 20% FEC budget no AU completed, so the figure cliffed to 0 / 100% loss even though most bytes still arrived — a binary cliff, not a graded measurement. 2. Send side blasted each filler AU (up to 256 KB ≈ 200 packets) into the socket buffer in one unpaced batch, unlike the real video path which paces. On a small buffer (e.g. the Steam Deck's 416 KB) a single AU overflowed it, so the test measured self-inflicted buffer overflow instead of the link. Fixes: - Host `run_probe_burst` keeps each AU a small (~16 KB) burst and paces by the byte budget, mirroring `paced_submit`; reports the WIRE packets the kernel accepted and the ones the send buffer dropped (stat deltas), separating host-side drops from link loss. - `ProbeResult` gains `wire_packets_sent` + `send_dropped` (back-compat decode: a 21-byte pre-wire-stats result still decodes, new fields 0). - Clients (probe + connector) count delivered traffic at the packet level via `session.stats()` deltas over the burst window, so throughput/loss degrade gracefully. Connector freezes the delivered figure when the host report lands so resumed video can't inflate it. New `ProbeOutcome`/`PunktfunkProbeResult` fields: `host_drop_pct`, `wire_packets_sent`, `send_dropped`. Validated on loopback (graded 142→1391 Mbps, host_drop/link_loss split correctly, no cliff) and live against the Deck: clean to ~200 Mbps goodput / 273 Mbps wire at 0% link loss, host send buffer the wall above that (the lever-#1 target). refactor: drop milestone names + consolidate clients; loss-recovery & rumble fixes
Two bodies of work in one commit (the rename moved files the fixes also touched). Naming/structure cleanup (pre-launch): - Host modules m3.rs->punktfunk1.rs, m0.rs->spike.rs; CLI m3-host->punktfunk1-host, m0->spike; bare `punktfunk-host` now prints help. Types M3Options/M3Source-> Punktfunk1Options/Punktfunk1Source. - Clients consolidated out of crates/ into clients/: punktfunk-client-rs-> clients/probe (crate punktfunk-probe), client-linux->clients/linux, client-windows->clients/windows, punktfunk-android->clients/android/native (crate punktfunk-client-android; kept [lib] name=punktfunk_android so the JNI contract is unchanged). crates/ now holds only core + host. - Milestone codes M0-M4 purged from code/CLI/CLAUDE.md/README/docs/docs-site, kept only in docs/implementation-plan.md. docs/m2-plan.md-> docs/gamestream-host-plan.md. CI/gradle/flatpak paths updated. Client loss-recovery (video froze and never recovered after a brief drop): - Export punktfunk_connection_frames_dropped through the C ABI (the core already tracked it for the client keyframe-recovery loop; it was never reachable from the ABI clients). Regenerated punktfunk_core.h. - Apple (StreamPump + Stage2Pipeline) and Android (decode.rs) now poll frames_dropped and request a keyframe when it climbs -- the same loss-driven recovery Linux/Windows already had. Under infinite GOP the decoder silently conceals reference-missing frames, so the decode-error trigger rarely fires. Apple rumble robustness (worked then went spotty -- DualSense + Xbox): - Add CHHapticEngine stopped/reset handlers (rebuild on app background / audio interruption / server reset) and drop the permanent `broken` latch on a transient drive failure; latch only when the controller truly has no haptics. - Surface swallowed SDL set_rumble errors on Linux/Windows + diagnostic logging. Verified: cargo build/clippy/fmt --workspace, C-ABI harness, header drift. Not runnable on this box (verify in CI): Gitea workflows, gradle/Android, flatpak, Swift/decky.
