The gamepad/console UI looked right on launch, and wrong forever after the first HDR
session: connect to an HDR host, disconnect, and the UI came back overblown with wrong
colours.

The UI is not its own renderer. It is a `pf_presenter::overlay::Overlay` composited into
the SAME swapchain the stream used, and it draws plain sRGB with no HDR awareness at all —
so the swapchain's colorspace decides how its pixels are read. `present` switches SDR↔HDR10
from the FRAME's colour signalling, and a UI-only present is `FrameInput::Redraw`, which
carries none: the mode block is skipped entirely and nothing ever hands HDR10 back. The
UI's sRGB mid-tones were then emitted as PQ code points, i.e. near-peak nits.

`leave_hdr` drops back to SDR, called where the UI-only present already happens and gated
on the existing `browse_idle` — Browse mode with no live connector, i.e. the UI owns the
screen. That covers every route back to the UI rather than just the Ended/Failed arms, and
it is guarded internally so idle iterations stay free.

It also bails when minimized, which is load-bearing rather than an optimization:
`recreate_swapchain` keeps the old swapchain at a zero extent, but `set_hdr_mode` would by
then have rebuilt the CSC and overlay pipes against the SDR format — mismatched against
live HDR10 images. `present` early-returns on a zero extent above its HDR block, so this
was unreachable until a caller outside `present` existed.

Deliberately not applied to the `resize_scrim` arm of the same present: that scrim is a
mid-stream gap in a session that is still HDR, and flipping there would rebuild the
swapchain twice per resize.

Does not address the adjacent case: an overlay drawn DURING a live HDR session (the stats
HUD, the resize scrim) is blown out the same way. That needs the overlay to PQ-encode when
`hdr_active`; dropping to SDR is only correct here because the console UI shows exactly
when no stream is live.

A user's 1080p stream repeated its last row of pixels over the final few rows, so the
image looked stretched at the bottom.

The Vulkan-Video CSC pass sampled the decoded planes with the fullscreen triangle's
normalized 0..1 UVs, but its render target is built at the CROPPED frame size. Those are
not the same rectangle: FFmpeg sizes the decode pool from `avctx->coded_*`, and H.264
codes `16 * mb_height` — so a 1080-row picture decodes into a 1088-row pool. Destination
row 1079 sampled source row ~1087.5, dragging the 8 alignment rows into view and squashing
the picture 0.7%. Encoders fill that padding by replicating the last picture line, which
is why it reads as a smeared bottom row rather than garbage.

Confirmed on glass (.173, RTX, H.264 1080p, vulkan-video):
  Vulkan Video first frame width=1920 height=1080 pool_w=1920 pool_h=1088

`VkVideoFrame` now carries the pool extent and `record_csc` takes a `uv_scale`, written to
the shader's `params.zw` — which the CSC shader already reserved for a use like this. The
chroma cositing offset is unchanged and stays correct: `textureSize` reports the pool
width, which is the space the scaled UV is already in.

Only the Vulkan-Video path passes a scale below 1.0. D3D11VA already clamps this in its
VideoProcessor blit (the same bug, seen as a green bar there because DXVA padding is
uninitialized rather than replicated); dmabuf imports its planes at the crop over the real
stride; PyroWave allocates its ring at exact stream dims. Apple and Android crop at the OS
layer. Every other call site passes [1.0, 1.0], so the change is inert there.

Also adds a one-time first-frame layout log mirroring the D3D11VA one, so the frame-vs-pool
gap is visible in the field instead of having to be re-derived from FFmpeg internals.

enricobuehlerandClaude Fable 5 2ce0bea830 feat(client): desktop phase-locked capture, a real display volume on Windows, and the console's missing rows
The cross-platform half of the gap sweep:

* Phase-locked capture reaches the DESKTOP clients (it shipped on
  Apple/Android only, though the desktop presenter has the best latch
  signal of all — true on-glass stamps via VK_KHR_present_wait). The
  presenter's 1 Hz fold publishes a latch grid (anchor = last on-glass
  instant; period = min positive present spacing, capped by the display
  mode's refresh so an arrival-paced sub-panel-rate stream can't claim a
  slower grid); the session pump folds every AU's arrival stamp against
  it with the SHARED `phase::circular_latch` statistic and sends the
  ~1 Hz PhaseReport (1 ms uncertainty — reference-client parity). The
  cap is advertised only when present timing is real
  (`VulkanDecodeDevice::present_timing` gates `SessionParams::phase_lock`),
  and the host's applied grid offset from the 0xCF tail is logged so an
  on-glass run can watch the controller engage.
* `Hello::display_hdr` stops being hardcoded `None`: Windows reads the
  panel's colour volume from DXGI (`IDXGIOutput6::GetDesc1`, the
  `--window-pos` output else the primary, advanced-color outputs only,
  gated on the HDR setting) so the host's virtual-display EDID matches
  the real glass. Linux keeps the EDID defaults — no portable
  Wayland/X11 query exists — and the comment now says exactly that.
* The console settings screen (the ONLY editor in Gaming Mode) learns
  the rows it was missing: render scale, full chroma 4:4:4, invert
  scroll, capture system shortcuts, fullscreen-on-stream, auto-wake and
  the game-library toggle.
* A spec-run session's device picks (GPU adapter, speaker, microphone)
  now come from the `--resolved-spec` instead of a raw Settings load —
  the last store read the spec path still owed (§5), and what would
  make those fields profileable.
* `session_args()` documents why the GTK/CLI spawners pass no
  `--window-pos` (Wayland exposes no global coordinates to read and SDL
  can't apply them).

enricobuehlerandClaude Fable 5 74863c96b3 feat(client): 4:4:4 can stay on hardware, and the overlay says what you actually got
Two halves of the same honesty problem (client-gaps handoff items 1+2,
done together as the handoff asked).

The presenter learns full chroma: `vkframe_plane_views` accepts the
2-plane 4:4:4 pool formats (8-bit, and the 10-bit 3PACK16 sibling) —
what NVIDIA's Vulkan Video reports for HEVC RExt decode — with the
accepted set extracted into `vkframe_plane_formats` and pinned by a
decision-table test. The CSC shader needed nothing: its 4:2:0 siting
correction already self-disables when the plane widths match. The VAAPI
leg gets the same treatment (NV24 in `drm_fourcc_for` and the dmabuf
import, full-size chroma plane), and the Vulkan decoder's sw-format
gate admits NV24/P410. 3-plane 4:4:4 stays rejected — it needs a third
CSC binding — and demotes cleanly like every other unsupported format.

Design call (the handoff's fork, argued here as requested): (B)+(C),
not (A). No capability probe gates VIDEO_CAP_444 — software decode is
the guaranteed display floor on both OSes (swscale → RGBA), the decoder
ladder demotes on its own, and a probe-gated bit would turn the switch
inert on exactly the boxes that rely on the fallback. What (A) wanted
from a prediction, the overlay now delivers as ground truth:

The Detailed tier prints the encoder's target next to the measured
rate — `19.4 Mb/s · target 20 Mb/s (auto)` — and the resolved chroma,
`4:4:4→4:2:0` when the host declined the ask (mirroring `HDR→SDR`).
The target is live: `NativeClient::current_bitrate_kbps()` mirrors
every BitrateChanged ack, so an Automatic session's ABR re-targets are
visible as they move. This is the figure whose absence let the
settings-drop bug (9c5af8d7) ship four releases — measured goodput
alone cannot distinguish "the encoder is capped at 20" from "my
200 Mb/s grant met a cheap scene".

The toggle has been stored, profileable and rendered in two settings UIs since
profiles landed, and nothing read it. Windows grabbed the keyboard whenever input
was captured, setting or no setting; Linux never grabbed at all, because the grab
sat behind `#[cfg(windows)]` with a comment deferring the compositor story to "the
shells" — which never picked it up.

`Settings.inhibit_shortcuts` now reaches the presenter and gates the grab, on both
platforms. SDL3 already maps `SDL_SetWindowKeyboardGrab` onto
`zwp_keyboard_shortcuts_inhibit_manager_v1` on Wayland and `XGrabKeyboard` (plus
`_XWAYLAND_MAY_GRAB_KEYBOARD`) on X11, so dropping the cfg is the Linux fix.

Capture state still gates it, so releasing input hands the chords straight back,
and the desktop mouse model never grabs. A compositor with no shortcuts-inhibit
global says so once instead of failing silently — at debug under gamescope, which
has no shortcuts to inhibit in the first place.

enricobuehler 65cd388a52 fix(presenter,core): close the last of the proof-lint hole — the Vulkan contract, stated once
pf-presenter's 120 sites are `ash` calls almost without exception, so 120 independent arguments
would have been 120 restatements of the signature — the exact noise this program exists to remove.
They get the `abi.rs` treatment instead: the Vulkan contract stated once in `lib.rs`, each site
naming which of three shapes it is.

The three are not equal, and separating them is the point. CREATE and RECORD carry no real
precondition — the device is owned, the builders are locals, nothing executes until submit. DESTROY
does: the GPU must not still be using the object, and that is established by the path (a fence wait,
a `queue_wait_idle`, a retired swapchain), not by the call. Those sites say so, because getting it
wrong is a use-after-free no type catches. The contract also tells the next person that a block
outside the three shapes needs a real proof, and that writing "as above" is the signal it doesn't
belong in them.

punktfunk-core's Windows half is finished here too: `qos_windows.rs`'s `GetLastError` reads (called
before anything can reset the thread's error slot) and `udp/windows.rs`'s control-message write,
whose argument is that `ctrl` is sized by `WSA_CMSG_SPACE(4)` — computed two lines up — so header
plus payload cannot run past it, and `write_unaligned` is used because `WSA_CMSG_DATA` offers no
alignment guarantee.

⚠️ THE WINDOWS BLIND SPOT BIT A THIRD TIME. A Linux measurement put this crate pair at 113; the
real number was 129 — `d3d11.rs`, `win32.rs`, `qos_windows.rs`, `udp/windows.rs` are all
`cfg`-hidden. Every crate in this sweep had to be finished on .47 after being "done" on .21. For a
cross-platform crate the Linux number is a lower bound, never the answer.

All three crates now deny `undocumented_unsafe_blocks`, which was the goal: it applied to 8 of 11
crates carrying unsafe, and the three exempt ones held 381 items between them — including the C ABI
surface and the presenter. Verified: Linux .21 fmt + both CI clippy steps rc=0; Windows .47 all four
closed crates clippy `-D warnings` rc=0 plus the full Windows CI clippy set and pf-capture's tests.
Only small crates remain unguarded (75 items total, largest 26).

enricobuehlerandClaude Opus 5 a2be3f4de9 feat(client): settings profiles — the override catalog, the one resolver, and the session flag
A client setting is global today: pick 4K@120 HDR and the retro box gets it too.
The one escape hatch (per-host `clipboard_sync`) proves the shape works but covers a
single field. This is P0 of design/client-settings-profiles.md — the headless core the
shells, Apple, Android and the deep-link grammar all build against. No UI yet.

A profile is a NAMED BUNDLE OF OVERRIDES, not a snapshot: `SettingsOverlay` is sparse
`Option`s, so a field the user never touched keeps following the global value live, and
fixing a global once fixes it everywhere. `Some(x)` equal to today's global is still
meaningful — it pins x against a later global change — which is why the UI will write
`Some` on touch and `None` on an explicit reset, never by diffing.

The catalog is its own `client-profiles.json`, deliberately not part of the settings
file: that file has five whole-file load-modify-save writers with no merge, so a profile
written by one would be dropped by the next. Which host uses which profile is a field on
the host record instead of a map keyed by host — that is what dissolves the client's
long-standing "what identifies a host record" question for this feature.

Resolution has exactly one implementation, `trust::effective_settings()`:

    effective = overlay(profile).apply(global)
    profile   = one-off pick ?? host binding ?? none

Both session construction sites go through it (`main.rs` AND `console.rs` — touching one
and not the other is a Windows-only build break), so the console, and therefore Decky,
honor host bindings with no work of their own. Nothing here can fail a connect: a
deleted binding resolves as "no profile", and a one-off that can't be honored falls back
to the DEFAULTS rather than to the host's own profile — "connect with Work" must never
quietly stream "Game". `--profile <id|name>` is the one-off door for the shells' coming
"Connect with ▸" and for `punktfunk://…&profile=`; `--profile ""` forces the defaults on
a bound host. The active profile's name closes the stats overlay's first line, so
"which profile am I on?" is answerable without leaving the stream.

Also here, because this effort touches every one of these anyway:

- `KnownHost` gains `profile_id`, `pinned_profiles` and a lazily minted stable `id`. The
  id is groundwork (design §4.5) — no lookup is re-keyed, `fp_hex`/`addr:port` stay.
- `upsert` now preserves the state the USER set on a record — the profile binding, its
  pins, the clipboard decision, the id — against refreshes that carry none of it.
  `clipboard_sync` survived that only because the function happened not to mention it.
- `KnownHost::default()` exists so construction sites read `..Default::default()`; five
  hand-written literals were exactly how a new field gets silently dropped on re-pair.
- All three client stores now write temp+rename. A torn settings file loads as `Default`
  — i.e. silently resets every setting the user has.

enricobuehler 5ea087ca47 feat(session): the stats overlay scales with the display's DPI
The stream chrome — stats OSD, capture hint, start banner, resize label —
was hardcoded at 14 px with 12/10/8 px insets. The overlay composites into
the swapchain 1:1 in PHYSICAL pixels, so on a 4K panel at 200 % all of it
rendered at half its intended physical size: fine on a 1080p monitor, a
squint on a HiDPI laptop.

FrameCtx now carries a scale — SDL's window display scale (DPI × the
display's content scale) times a PUNKTFUNK_OSD_SCALE preference — and every
metric moved into a `base` module that is multiplied by it. Re-read per
frame and quantized into the damage key, so dragging the window to a
differently-scaled monitor re-renders at the new size rather than keeping
the stale one. Sanitized because SDL returns 0.0 when it cannot resolve the
window's display, which would collapse the panel to nothing.

Two details worth keeping: the face is re-derived at the scaled size rather
than the canvas transformed, because Skia rasterizes glyphs at the
requested size where a magnified 14 px bitmap would be mush; and the long
capture hint is fit-clamped to the window — at 2× it is wider than a 1080p
screen, so scaling it naively would have traded a small OSD for a truncated
one. Linux and Windows share this path.

Both come straight out of the first compositor-less bring-up (P3), on a
two-GPU box:

PUNKTFUNK_DRM_CARD=<n> pins SDL's KMSDRM device index. SDL enumerates
/dev/dri/card* and takes the first it can open, which is regularly the
wrong one: it chose the card a live compositor already held DRM master on
and died at swapchain creation, while the idle card with the connected
display sat unused. Kept an explicit operator choice rather than
auto-detection — deciding "is this card already mastered" needs the very
ioctl that taking master IS, so any in-process guess would be fragile.

The swapchain error now carries what to actually check. "vkCreateSwapchainKHR:
Initialization of an object has failed" is useless to someone bringing up a
kiosk; on the kmsdrm backend it now names the pinned card and lists the
three real causes in order (no connected connector / another DRM master /
NVIDIA). Empty on every other backend, where it would be noise.

The NVIDIA note is measured, not guessed: on NVIDIA proprietary + kmsdrm,
Vulkan enumerates the GPU AND the display (VK_KHR_display reports the
connected HDMI connector) and still fails — as root, with
nvidia_drm.modeset=Y, on a card no compositor was using. Not permissions,
not DRM master; their direct-display path wants the display leased via
vkAcquireDrmDisplayEXT and SDL's kmsdrm surface path does not do that.

`char` is signed on x86_64 but UNSIGNED on aarch64, so the hardcoded
`Vec<*const i8>` compiles on every desktop target and then fails to match
ash's `&[*const c_char]` when cross-compiling the client for ARM.

Found by the aarch64 cross-build spike (punktfunk-planning:
embedded-arm64-client.md) — the only portability defect in the client
stack; nothing else in the client crates assumes an architecture.

Parity with the Apple client (35c2c145): the SDL/Linux presenter built the
host-forwarded cursor as an OS cursor at its native bitmap size, so the
on-screen pointer tracked the HOST's display scaling — a 4K/high-DPI virtual
display forwards a 96 px bitmap that then rendered huge on the client.

SDL cursors are fixed-size from their surface (no draw-time scaling), so
cache the shapes RAW and resample each by the live video-fit factor
(min(window_px / mode) — the same aspect-fit `finger_to_content` uses) at
install time, rebuilding when the serial OR the fit changes (a resize). The
resample area-averages on premultiplied alpha so a transparent pixel's
colour can't bleed into the fringe. The pointer now stays sized to the
streamed desktop at any host scaling.

Not yet eyeballed on a Deck/Linux box — SDL's HiDPI cursor sizing is
version-dependent; validate on glass.

The cursor channel excluded the host pointer from the video for the
whole session, but the client only draws it under the DESKTOP mouse
model — flipping ⌃⌥⇧M to capture mid-stream left the session
pointer-blind (user-found). The fix makes render ownership LIVE state:

- wire: CursorRenderMode 0x51 (client→host, control stream) —
  client_draws: true = desktop model (host excludes + forwards),
  false = capture model / released (host composites, full fidelity —
  DWM on Windows incl. real XOR inversion, encoder blend on Linux).
  Sessions start client_draws=true (the pre-message behavior).
- host: control task stores the flag; the encode loop edge-detects it —
  forwarding + frame.cursor strip while the client draws, quiet
  forwarder + overlay-into-blend while composited. SessionPlan now
  grants blend CAPABILITY wherever the capture has a pointer (dropping
  the !cursor_forward gate) so the composite side needs no encoder
  rebuild; per-tick frame.cursor decides what is drawn.
- Windows: Capturer::set_cursor_forward → retained
  IOCTL_SET_CURSOR_FORWARD sender (proto v6) → driver (un)declares the
  IddCx hardware cursor on the LIVE monitor. Un-declare re-issues the
  setup with EMPTY caps (candidate mechanism — the DDI has no
  documented un-setup); resetup-on-commit is skipped while off, so a
  mode commit's software-cursor default is the fallback path. Failure
  against a pre-v6 driver logs and keeps declared-at-ADD behavior.
- SDL client: one edge-detected reconciler at the cursor pump site —
  desktop-active = client draws; capture model or released = host
  composites. Covers the chord, the M3 auto-flip, and engage/release.
- C ABI v12: punktfunk_connection_set_cursor_render (additive; wire
  version unchanged — pre-§8 hosts ignore the unknown message type).

The full Parsec model: launching a game from a desktop session flips the
client into captured relative automatically, and back — no chords.

- Capture overlay now distinguishes 'hidden' from 'no cursor yet':
  CursorOverlay grows a visible flag, overlay() returns Some whenever a
  bitmap is known (the encode loop strips invisible overlays after
  forwarding so no blend path ever draws one; the CPU composite guarded
  on visibility already).
- Host forwarder maps it onto the reserved wire bit: visible ⇒ VISIBLE,
  hidden-but-known ⇒ RELATIVE_HINT (an app grabbed/hid the pointer),
  never any hint before the first bitmap — a cold start can't flip a
  desktop session into capture.
- Presenter: edge-triggered auto-flip on hint changes via the new
  Capture::set_desktop (chord semantics untouched); a manual ⌃⌥⇧M sets
  an override latch that holds until the HOST's intent next changes, so
  the hint never fights the user. Leaving relative warps the local
  cursor to the host's last pointer position through the new
  content_to_window inverse-letterbox mapping (unit-tested against
  finger_to_content) — the hand-back is seamless.

Verified on .21: fmt + clippy -D warnings + tests (presenter 20 incl.
the inverse-mapping roundtrip, host 245).

The host cursor stops riding the video and becomes a real OS cursor on
the client (the Parsec/RDP model): pointer feel no longer pays the
capture→encode→network→decode→present round trip.

Wire (M2a):
- Hello grows a client_caps trailing byte (CLIENT_CAP_CURSOR) after the
  fixed display_hdr block — presence disambiguated by remaining length,
  which caps the post-HDR tail at 27 bytes (documented); Welcome answers
  HOST_CAP_CURSOR (capable-and-asked, the 444/clipboard precedent).
- CursorShape (0x50, control stream): serial + dims + hotspot + straight
  RGBA, ≤120px/side so the u16 frame always fits (128² would overshoot);
  client caches by serial — re-showing a known shape costs 14 bytes, not
  a bitmap (RDP pointer-cache for free).
- CursorState (0xD0 datagram): serial + visible/relative_hint flags +
  position, sent once per encode-loop tick — latest-wins, self-healing
  under loss, no refresh timer. relative_hint is reserved for M3.
- Client core: two new planes (control-task + datagram-task arms) →
  next_cursor_shape/next_cursor_state; connect() grows client_caps
  (C ABI passes 0 until the v11 cursor poll fns exist).

Host (M2b, Linux portal only):
- handshake::cursor_forward is THE predicate (client asked ∧ Linux ∧
  compositor ≠ gamescope) — Welcome bit and session wiring both read it.
- SessionPlan.cursor_blend goes false for a forwarding session; the
  encode loop ticks a CursorForwarder every iteration: shape-serial diff
  → control-task bridge (mirrors probe_result), state datagram → conn.
- CursorOverlay/capture CursorState carry the hotspot through
  (nearest-neighbor downscale backstop for XL cursors, unit-tested).

Presenter:
- CursorChannel drains both planes per loop iteration; shapes become
  SDL color cursors (from_surface + hotspot), applied while the desktop
  mouse model is engaged; visibility follows the host; capture/released
  hands back the system cursor. Sessions advertise the cap when they
  START in desktop mode.

Verified on .21: fmt + clippy -D warnings (7 crates) + tests green
(core 218 incl. new wire roundtrips, host 245 incl. e2e + forwarder
downscale tests).

New physical-mouse model beside capture: Desktop leaves the pointer
uncaptured and sends absolute positions through the letterbox
(MouseMoveAbs — every host injector already consumes it). Capture
stays the default and the game model.

- pf-client-core: MouseMode (capture|desktop) persisted in Settings,
  default capture so existing stores are unchanged.
- pf-presenter: Capture grows a desktop model — latest-wins pending
  abs position coalesced per loop iteration (same 1000 Hz discipline
  as relative), flushed before clicks/keys/wheel so they land where
  the cursor is; Ctrl+Alt+Shift+M flips the model live; local cursor
  stays hidden over the window (the host's composited cursor is the
  one you see until the M2 cursor channel); Windows keyboard grab
  only engages for capture (a desktop stream is something you
  Alt-Tab away from).
- gamescope gating: its EIS is relative-only, so desktop mode is
  pinned off there (resolved_compositor), with a log note.
- Settings surfaces: GTK row (dynamic caption), WinUI combo,
  console-UI row + step test, capture-hint line.

Verified: fmt + clippy -D warnings + tests (33/40/19) on Linux .21;
clippy -D warnings for all five crates incl. punktfunk-client-windows
native on .173.

Software decode uploads swscale RGBA with no CSC/tonemap pass. On the new
desktop-compositor HDR10 surfaces (GNOME 48 / Plasma 6 + Mesa >= 25.1 offer
ST2084 even on SDR desktops) that sRGB-encoded content was composed as PQ —
the field-reported psychedelic picture (Fedora clients decode HEVC in
software because stock Mesa strips it; reproduced + fix live-validated on
GNOME Wayland: mode-0 soup -> HDR→SDR washed-out-but-correct).

The CPU lane keeps the SDR swapchain and its known untonemapped-PQ gap; a
real PQ→sRGB pass for CPU frames is the follow-up.

The Settings GPU pick existed (adapter → PUNKTFUNK_VK_ADAPTER) but no Linux
shell could enumerate anything to pick: the GTK shell deliberately links no
Vulkan. pf_presenter::vk::list_adapters() reads the physical devices'
marketing names (no surface, discrete first, deduped — the name is the whole
match key in pick_device), surfaced as `punktfunk-session --list-adapters`.

Audio gets the same treatment for the new speaker_device/mic_device settings
(PipeWire node.name; empty = default): session main maps them onto
PUNKTFUNK_AUDIO_SINK/SOURCE — a hand-set env still wins, like the adapter —
and the playback/mic streams pass them as `target.object` (raw key: the
keys::TARGET_OBJECT constant is feature-gated on a newer libpipewire than we
require). pf_client_core::audio::devices() is the registry roundtrip the
pickers read, exposed for debugging as `punktfunk-session --list-audio`.
The WASAPI leg (Windows endpoint IDs) is still to come; the fields are
ignored there.

enricobuehlerandClaude Fable 5 1ef0229bd9 feat(client/windows): PyroWave decode + surface it in the GUI codec picker
The decoder was gated to Linux because, when it landed, the Windows client
still had its own in-process WinUI/D3D11 presenter and the PyroWave present
path there was an open question. That client has since been retired: Windows
now spawns the SAME Vulkan session presenter as Linux, and the decoder is
plain Vulkan compute on the presenter's device (no fds, no dmabuf, no D3D11
interop), so the question that gated it answered itself. pyrowave-sys already
builds on Windows too -- the Windows HOST encoder ships on it.

So this is a port by un-gating: every cfg(all(target_os = "linux", feature =
"pyrowave")) becomes any(linux, windows) -- decoder module, backend variant,
Decoder::new_pyrowave, the CODEC_PYROWAVE advertisement, the session pump's
opt-in/build/label arms, and the presenter's planar CSC pass. No new code.

Then offer it in the Windows GUI, which is what prompted this. It stays
preference-only (resolve_codec never auto-picks it) and a host or device that
can't do PyroWave just falls back down the ladder to HEVC.

A PQ stream on the D3D11VA backend was always tone-mapped to sRGB by the
VideoProcessor — with D3D11VA now auto's first choice on Intel (40030e90),
Intel Windows users would have lost HDR entirely. When the presenter can
import an RGB10A2 D3D11 texture AND offers an HDR10 swapchain (the new
VulkanDecodeDevice::d3d11_hdr10 probe), the hand-off ring switches to
RGB10A2 and the VideoProcessor does a pure colorspace conversion (YCbCr
G2084 -> RGB G2084, no tone mapping); the emitted frame carries PQ/BT.2020
color, so the presenter flips its HDR10 swapchain and video image exactly
as it does for Vulkan Video PQ frames, and the blit passes the PQ values
through untouched. SDR-only paths keep the tonemap-to-sRGB BGRA8 ring;
in-band PQ flips rebuild the ring like a resize (generation-bumped).

enricobuehlerandClaude Fable 5 188edde2b3 feat(pyrowave): Windows host HDR + 4:4:4, Rust client HDR present
Phase 3 of design/pyrowave-444-hdr.md. A PyroWave session now negotiates HDR
(10-bit) and 4:4:4 on a Windows host exactly like HEVC/AV1, and the Linux
client presents it through the real HDR10 path.

Host (Windows): BgraToYuvPlanes becomes mode-aware — SDR/BGRA and HDR/scRGB
variants at half- or full-res chroma. The HDR passes reuse HdrP010Converter's
exact colour math (scRGB -> PQ BT.2020 limited studio codes, verified by
hdr_p010_selftest) but write P010-style MSB-packed codes into two separate
shareable R16_UNORM/R16G16_UNORM textures; chroma keeps the pyrowave family's
centre-sited 2x2 box. idd_push pins the composition to the NEGOTIATED depth
(SDR sessions force advanced color off as before; 10-bit sessions enable it
and ride the FP16 ring), and the descriptor poller re-asserts that state
instead of following display flips the fixed-format encoder can't. The
encoder imports 8/16-bit planes per session and stamps the sequence header's
BT.2020/PQ/matrix bits on HDR (stamp_color_bits, extending 574e3e4e's range
stamp); supports_10bit/can_encode_10bit/can_encode_444 gates open (HDR
Windows-only — Linux capture has no HDR source).

Client: the plane ring becomes R16_UNORM for 10-bit sessions (with a
STORAGE_IMAGE format probe), the planar CSC pass joins the HDR10 swapchain
rebuild (set_hdr_mode previously destroyed it without rebuilding — latent),
st.hdr follows frame.color.is_pq(), and the planar push constants carry
depth-10 MSB-packed rows + the PQ tonemap mode, identical to the NV12 arm.

Verified: .173 (RTX 4090) deploy-config clippy + fmt + wire tests + the
extended pyrowave_win_smoke (10-case {SDR,HDR}x{420,444} matrix incl. R16
imports and header stamps); .21 (RTX 5070 Ti) clippy across 4 crates, host
186 tests, client/presenter/encode tests, both Linux GPU smokes.

- T1.2 rate-capped front-loaded pacing: the paced overflow's budget is now
  min(0.9x slack, overflow wire time at ~3x the live encoder bitrate)
  (PUNKTFUNK_PACE_FACTOR, 0 = legacy deadline-only spread). A 300 KB-1 MB
  frame's tail leaves in ~2-5 ms instead of smearing across ~15 ms at 60 fps;
  GameStream schedule byte-identical (pins unchanged).
- T1.3 data-first wire order: packetize emits every block's data shards before
  any parity (per-block parity pools keep all blocks' parity alive for the
  second pass), so lossless completion stops waiting behind the parity tail.
  EOF = last emitted packet; receiver already order-agnostic.
- T0.1 staged 0xCF: HostTiming gains an append-extensible per-stage tail
  (queue/encode/pace us; seal+channel-wait derived as residual) - no cap bit
  needed, old peers read the 13-byte prefix. Joined client-side into
  Stats::host_{queue,encode,xfer,pace}_ms, the OSD detailed tier, and the
  probe's report.
- T0.2 true on-glass present timing: VK_KHR_present_id/present_wait enabled
  when supported; a PresentTimer waiter thread resolves each present id to
  real visibility, replacing the submit-time display stamp (which undercounts
  by up to a refresh and hides a silent-FIFO standing queue).

Validated on .21: core 185 + host 185 tests, pf-presenter 19, clippy
-D warnings across all five touched crates; loss-harness recovery curve
unchanged; C ABI harness round-trips.

enricobuehlerandClaude Fable 5 871ebb31ce feat(clients): render-scale setting on every client — shared punktfunk_core::render_scale
Client-side supersampling/downscaling: the client asks the host to render
and encode at chosen-resolution × scale (the host does no scaling) and the
presenter rescales the decoded frame to the display. >1 supersamples for
sharpness; <1 lightens the host GPU and the link. Default 1.0 = Native, the
prior behavior.

The geometry lives once in punktfunk_core::render_scale (multiply, preserve
aspect ratio, floor to even, clamp to the codec's per-axis ceiling — 4096
for H.264, 8192 otherwise), the Rust twin of the Apple client's
RenderScale.swift, consumed by the native session client, the presenter's
match-window path, the Windows/Linux settings UIs, Decky, and Android
(settings + host connect + unit test).

Implemented and platform-verified by the Apple-client-features session
(Linux+Android+Apple green there); the punktfunk-core wiring
(pub mod render_scale) is restored here after being lost in a working-tree
reconciliation.

Break the 2513-line pf-presenter/src/vk.rs into a vk/ directory module (mod.rs +
6 concern submodules), keeping ALL type definitions in vk/mod.rs so every submodule
(a descendant of vk) sees the Presenter/OverlayPipe/etc. private fields with no
field bumps:
  - vk/setup.rs      : Presenter::new + device/format/present-mode selection
  - vk/present.rs    : the per-frame present path (present + CSC record + AVVkFrame
                       sync) — HOT PATH, moved whole
  - vk/reconfig.rs   : swapchain recreate/resize + HDR reconfiguration
  - vk/resources.rs  : video-image/staging (re)build + Retired-frame destruction
  - vk/overlay_pipe.rs: the presenter-side overlay composite pipeline
  - vk/gpu.rs        : memory allocation, image barriers, geometry helpers (+ tests)
vk/mod.rs keeps FrameInput/Presenter/OverlayPipe/VideoImage/Staging/Retired/HwCtx*
+ the public accessors + Drop. Methods/free-fns a sibling submodule calls became
pub(super) (~18); zero field bumps, zero re-exports (Presenter/FrameInput never
leave mod.rs). lib.rs unchanged (`pub mod vk;` resolves to vk/mod.rs). The moved
overlay shader include_bytes! gained one `../` for the deeper dir. Pure move; no
behavior change; the hot present path keeps only static pub(super) calls (inlinable).

Verified both platforms: Linux (home-worker-5) clippy -p pf-presenter
(--all-targets -D warnings) + test; Windows (winbox, ASCII CARGO_HOME) clippy.

Local snapshot of intermingled in-flight work, committed to unblock the encode
refactor (a clean ffmpeg_win.rs for the vbv-dedup follow-on). These hunks span
the same files and can't be cleanly split here; the commit bundles three
distinct workstreams that each belong in their own PR:

  - logging rework (~43 files: level re-tiering, structured fields, `?e`,
    hot-path flood latches)
  - conflicting-host detection (detect.rs + detect/{linux,windows}.rs + wiring
    in main.rs/mgmt.rs/Cargo.toml/docs/packaging)
  - standby-sink DWM-stall attribution (windows/display_events.rs + capture/
    vdisplay wiring)

NOT verified as a combination. NOT to be pushed until the refactor is done and
these are re-verified and reorganized into their proper per-workstream PRs.

- pf-presenter: the HUD/title mode line lived inside the match-window (D2)
  gate, so an accepted switch from any OTHER trigger (the
  PUNKTFUNK_DEBUG_RECONFIGURE lever, a host-side corrective rollback) left the
  label stale. Hoisted into its own per-iteration tick that runs whenever a
  stream is up.
- docs: pyrowave.md — the Automatic bitrate pin now follows a mid-stream
  resize; drop the "resolution changes rebuild the stream" limitation.

Completes the resize-rebuild work whose core landed in 9127c346
(video_pyrowave.rs sequence-header dims sniff + in-place decoder/plane-ring
rebuild with retired-ring lifetime handling, host per-mode ~1.6 bpp re-pin,
128px floor, debug reconfigure lever). On-glass validated on .21
(RTX 5070 Ti, Mutter virtual display): 1080p->720p and 1080p->1440p

PyroWave AUs now packetize on the negotiated shard payload, so a lost datagram
costs a few wavelet blocks of localized blur rather than a whole frame — and the
client can render an aged-out lossy frame instead of freezing until the next one.

Host (opt-in, PyroWave only):
- The encoder packetizes at the shard payload behind a 4-byte window prefix
  (used-len u16 + kind u16). Whole packets pack into WIN_PACKED windows; a packet
  too large for one shard (PyroWave 32x32 blocks are atomic and can exceed a
  shard) rides a WIN_FRAG_FIRST/CONT/LAST chain. `set_wire_chunking()` joins the
  Encoder trait (forwarded through TrackedEncoder — the silent-no-op trap);
  EncodedFrame.chunk_aligned marks the AU.
- virtual_stream tags the AU with USER_FLAG_CHUNK_ALIGNED and re-applies chunking
  after every encoder (re)build, the adaptive-bitrate rebuild included.

Core:
- USER_FLAG_CHUNK_ALIGNED (0x40) wire bit. Reassembler opt-in
  (set_deliver_partial): a chunk-aligned frame that ages out with holes is handed
  over as Frame{complete:false} — received shards at their exact offsets, missing
  ranges zero-filled — instead of being dropped. Partials age out on a tight 30ms
  fuse (PARTIAL_WINDOW_NS) instead of the 120ms loss window: each frame is
  independently decodable, so an ancient partial has no value in a live stream.
  Newest-wins. A partial still counts as dropped for loss reporting.

Client (PyroWave decode):
- The session opts in when codec == PyroWave. The decoder walks the AU
  window-by-window, skipping zero (missing) windows and reassembling FRAG chains,
  then decodes whatever survived. A newest-decoded-index guard drops partials the
  pump has already moved past (no time-travel present).

Also fixes a redundant-closure clippy nit in the PyroWave planar-present path.

Validated on an RTX 5070 Ti under 2% netem loss with FEC pinned off: 60fps
sustained entirely via partials, e2e 43ms p50 (146ms before the fuse) vs 23ms
lossless, no keyframe-recovery chatter. Tests green: core 149, host 310 + the
GPU-gated encoder smoke (framed-window walk + FRAG reassembly + upstream
round-trip), client 26; clippy clean on the pyrowave feature combos.

The arch package job (--features nvenc) tripped the same class of
Codec::PyroWave non-exhaustive matches as windows-host had, in
nvenc_cuda.rs (6 sites) — dispatch-guarded unreachable!() arms, plus
the vk_util-extraction leftover unused imports in vulkan_video.rs.
All Linux host feature combos (none / pyrowave / nvenc,vulkan-encode /
all three) now compile clean on .21.

Presenter: planar_csc.frag (+ committed .spv) — the 3-plane variant of
nv12_csc.frag (separate Cb/Cr R8 planes, same push-constant CSC-row
contract, siting correction self-disables at full-res chroma).
CscPass grows a shared builder + new_planar()/bind_planes_planar()
(GENERAL-layout descriptors — pyrowave planes stay GENERAL); the Vk
presenter builds the planar pass when the device passed the pyrowave
probe, FrameInput::PyroWave rides present_frame (no acquire barrier
needed: the decoder fence-completed and barriered the planes on the
same queue), and run.rs presents it with no demote rung (only device
loss ends the session).

The presenter's device creation now probes + enables the PyroWave
compute feature set alongside the Vulkan Video probe (shaderInt16,
storageBuffer8BitAccess, subgroup size control — gated on support,
harmless when unused) and exports the facts through VulkanDecodeDevice
(pyrowave_decode capability + feature bools + apiVersion + the queue-
family shape).

pf-client-core (feature `pyrowave`, Linux): video_pyrowave.rs — the
decoder runs pyrowave compute on the PRESENTER's own VkDevice, zero
interop (plan §4.5): pinned content-equivalent create-info
reconstruction satisfies pyrowave 0.4.0's lifetime rule without
refactoring the presenter's creation; queue access rides the existing
device-wide QueueLock (the FFmpeg/Skia contract); decode records into
our command buffer, fence-synchronous (sub-ms), into a 4-deep ring of
3xR8 plane sets (decode REQUIRES storage usage + identity swizzles, so
the encoder's RG8 trick doesn't apply). Backend::PyroWave +
DecodedImage::PyroWave + Decoder::new_pyrowave + decodable_codecs_for
(advertisement gated on the device probe) wired through the decode
dispatch; no demote ladder (nothing else decodes it — fallback is
session renegotiation, plan §4.6).

Still to come for a live session: the presenter's planar-CSC render
path for the new variant, pump/shell opt-in (preferred_codec) wiring,
and the on-glass .21 run.

Validated on .21: pf-client-core + pf-presenter compile with and
without the feature, clippy clean, 26 client-core tests green.

Mesa now exposes Vulkan Video decode queues by default (and the session
binary opts RADV in for the Deck's sake), which silently moved every desktop
AMD/Intel box onto FFmpeg-Vulkan-on-Mesa under `auto` — user-reported
(CachyOS/KDE) to judder or error-streak into the software demotion while an
explicit VAAPI pick streams perfectly. Auto's hardware order is now
device-aware (`VulkanDecodeDevice::prefer_vulkan_over_vaapi`, fed
vendor id + device name by the presenter): Vulkan-first stays only where it
is the established right answer — NVIDIA (no usable VAAPI) and the Deck's
VanGogh (VAAPI dmabuf import chroma-fringes) — and everything else gets the
battle-tested zero-copy VAAPI first, with Vulkan as its fallback.

A mid-session Vulkan failure streak now also demotes to VAAPI before
software, so a broken Mesa Vulkan path can never strand a box with a
perfectly good VAAPI driver on CPU decode.

The GTK shell's decoder setting gains the missing "Vulkan Video" option
(values now mirror the console UI's auto/vulkan/vaapi/software) and drops
its pre-Vulkan "Automatic (VAAPI → software)" label.

Verified on the RTX 5070 Ti box (loopback session, auto → "Vulkan Video
hardware decode active", 60 fps); policy locked by unit test; clippy -D
warnings + pf-client-core/pf-presenter tests green on Linux.

iOS + Android: a three-finger vertical swipe up/down summons/dismisses the
device soft keyboard while streaming (trackpad + pointer modes). Mobile scroll
is now exactly two fingers so it never collides with the 3+-finger gesture
(3+ only fell into the old `>= 2` scroll path by accident).

Android: a TYPE_NULL KeyCaptureView plus IME meta-shift wrapping feeds key
events through. iOS: UIKeyInput plus a SoftKeyMap char->VK table with a
GCKeyboard dup gate so a hardware keyboard and the soft keyboard don't
double-emit.

- Settings gain a Touchscreen → Touch mode row (Trackpad / Direct pointer /
  Touch passthrough), the one couch-relevant Settings field the screen lacked.
- The pair screen adds the no-PIN delegated-approval path: a "Request access"
  action (only when the host advertises a fingerprint to pin) opens a connect the
  host PARKS until the operator approves this device, then persists it as paired.
  A role-based row model keeps the cursor off stale indices; manual hosts stay
  PIN-only, matching the desktop shells.
- Threads request_access through OverlayAction::Launch and ConnectIntent; the
  shell shows a "Waiting for approval…" takeover, and the session binary parks on
  a 185 s budget (PendingApproval → persist-as-paired via on_connected).

Auto-wake (WoL) was already implemented end-to-end and is left as-is.

Bring the SDL presenter (Linux/Deck + Windows) to parity with the Android and
Apple clients: a persisted TouchMode selects how a touchscreen drives the host —

  * Trackpad (default): relative cursor with pointer ballistics + the shared
    gesture vocabulary (tap = left click, two-finger tap = right click,
    two-finger drag = scroll, tap-then-drag = held left drag, three-finger tap =
    cycle the stats overlay).
  * Direct pointer: the cursor jumps to and follows the finger (absolute).
  * Touch passthrough: every finger is a real host touchscreen contact.

Previously the presenter had no finger handling, so SDL synthesized mouse events
from touch and — under the stream's relative-mouse lock — walked the host cursor
into the corner (the reported Deck bug). SDL touch->mouse synthesis is now off;
DIRECT touchscreens route through a new incremental gesture engine (a port of
Android TouchInput.kt / Apple TouchMouse.swift), while INDIRECT trackpads keep
driving the mouse. Fingers map through the aspect-fit letterbox onto the content
rect.

TouchMode lives in the shared trust::Settings (default trackpad, so passthrough
is opt-in like the other clients); the GTK and WinUI settings screens both gained
a "Touch input" picker. Gesture engine, letterbox mapping, and settings
back-compat are unit-tested (28 tests green); clippy -D warnings clean; full
Linux client + session build verified on-host.

The `cargo fmt --check` step on the x86_64-pc-windows-msvc job was
failing: the mid-stream loss-recovery and resize-overlay commits landed
with unformatted wraps across pf-presenter, pf-client-core, punktfunk-core,
pf-console-ui, and a few host files.

Applied `cargo fmt`, and hand-relocated two trailing comments in
session.rs (a decoded-frame note and the wrap-counter note) to their own
lines so rustfmt no longer column-aligns the following comment block to
a deep indent.

The mid-stream Match-window trigger + Resolution tri-state already shipped on BOTH
desktop clients via the session-always punktfunk-session binary (pf-presenter D1/D2,
C1). This ports the last Apple-parity piece — the resize-in-progress indicator
(clients/apple ResizeIndicator/ResizeIndicatorView) — into the SHARED pf-presenter
overlay, so one implementation covers both the Windows and GTK4 session windows.

- ResizeIndicator (run.rs): the Apple state machine in Rust — `steering` (a switch was
  requested) shows it, `decoded` (a frame reached the target size) clears it, `tick`
  times it out after 2.5 s for a switch the host rejected/capped. The live drag stays
  sharp; only the host's 0.3-2 s virtual-display + encoder rebuild gap is covered. A
  present-while-resizing path keeps the spinner animating through that frame-less gap.
- DecodedImage::dimensions() (pf-client-core): the END signal — a decoded frame at the
  target size means the sharp new-mode picture is on glass (the accept ack alone lands
  ahead of the host's rebuild). Mirrors is_keyframe()'s cfg arms.
- FrameCtx.resizing (pf-presenter/overlay.rs) + Skia draw (pf-console-ui): a full-screen
  55% scrim + the shared rotating theme::spinner + "Resizing…" label. The overlay
  composites its own RGBA quad and can't sample the video to blur it as SwiftUI does, so
  a scrim stands in for the blur — same intent, one draw. resizing_since clocks the
  spinner; Drawn.resize_step defeats the damage gate so it redraws each frame.

Verified on Linux: pf-presenter/pf-console-ui/session/linux-client build + clippy
-D warnings clean; 8 pf-presenter tests green incl. 2 new ResizeIndicator tests.
Windows session-binary compile (cfg-symmetric) + live on-glass both pending.

Host (Phase 0):
- H1/H5: per-backend Reconfigure acceptance gate — reject for gamescope
  (all sub-modes; a resize must never relaunch the title) and under the
  per-client-mode identity policy (a resize would resolve a different
  display slot). Synthetic stays reconfigurable on purpose (the protocol
  test source; the C-ABI roundtrip test rides it). Plus a 500 ms host-side
  min-interval backstop against Reconfigure spam.
- H2: rollback/corrective ack — the data plane reports the mode actually
  live after a failed rebuild (or a refresh the backend capped) through a
  reconfig_result channel; the control task forwards it as a second
  accepted Reconfigured so the client's mode slot self-corrects.
- H3: live stats mode — SendStats reads a packed AtomicU64 (w|h|hz)
  updated on every switch instead of latching the session-start mode.
- H4: registry::retire(gen) — a mode-switch rebuild force-releases the
  superseded Linux display, so linger/forever keep-alive policies don't
  accumulate kept monitors at stale modes. VirtualOutput carries pool_gen
  (fresh AND reused) and the Pipeline tuple threads it to the switch arm.

Client (Phase 1, default off):
- Settings: match_window policy + persisted last window size; exposed as
  the Resolution tri-state (Native / Match window / explicit) in the Skia
  console, GTK and WinUI settings pages.
- pf-presenter: window opens at the persisted size; Hello mode follows the
  window's pixel size; D2 trigger discipline (400 ms debounce to
  resize-end, ≥1 s spacing, even-floor + ≥320×200 clamp, each distinct
  size requested at most once — covers rejects and host rollbacks) as a
  pure, unit-tested decision; HUD line + title refresh on a switch.
- Session binary wires both --connect and --browse paths; the WinUI shell
  is session-always, so this covers Windows too.

Verified: workspace tests + clippy green; synthetic --remode end-to-end;
live session-binary run (window at persisted 1000×600 → Hello 1000×600@60).
On-glass per-backend matrix (Mutter/KWin/gamescope-reject, keep-alive
accumulation) still pending before any default flip.

(no 0x80070490), per-ring mode-change recreate leaves the sibling untouched, typed
budget rejection, fault-injected cross-bind refused loudly with the sibling undisturbed.
V7: WUDFHost-kill shared fate is clean; in-process device recovery is a known follow-up
(the retired-never-closed control handles block the adapter cycle — reset-pf-vdisplay.ps1
recovers). DWM composes two IDD monitors concurrently at 60 fps — the plan's
load-bearing unknown, answered yes.

Also carries the client-HDR EDID forwarding that shared this working tree
(Hello::display_hdr → AddRequest luminance tail → the monitor's CTA-861.3 HDR block,
PUNKTFUNK_CLIENT_PEAK_NITS hatch) and the Deck client fixes (40 ms rumble keep-alive

Clients derive Y'CbCr->RGB from the stream's SIGNALED matrix x range x depth
via shared csc rows (Rust csc_rows + Swift CscRows) instead of hardcoded
709/2020 - a BT.601-signaled stream (a Linux host's RGB-input NVENC) no longer
renders with a constant hue error. Host-side signaling made honest across
NVENC/VAAPI/openh264/GameStream and the session plan's chroma/bit-depth.
Decoded color-bar fixtures (601/709 x limited/full) pin the math in tests on
both cores.

Same presenter, tvOS HDR: tvOS has no Metal EDR API and a bare PQ colorspace
tag composites UNTONE-MAPPED (the "overblown" Apple TV report), so HDR now
splits on the display's live EDR headroom - PQ passthrough when the
per-session AVDisplayManager mode switch landed (a real HDR10 output
tone-maps itself), else an in-shader PQ->SDR tone-map (203-nit reference
white, extended-Reinhard 1000-nit knee, 2020->709) into the proven SDR layer
config. The 10-bit stream keeps its full decode depth either way.

Networking-audit deferred plan §2. The host↔client offset was measured once
at connect; an NTP step or slow drift silently corrupted the clock-based
jump-to-live signal, the ABR one-way-delay signal, and every latency stat —
4a3b1ae2's disarm backstop stopped the IDR storm but lost the detector for
the session. Now the client re-estimates mid-stream and recovers it.

- quic: ClockResync — the connect-time 8-round probe/echo estimate as a
  select!-driven state machine (rounds matched by echoed t1, stale batches
  ignored), plus accept_resync (batch min-RTT ≤ max(2 ms, 1.5× connect RTT)
  so a congested window can never bias the offset). No wire change: the
  host has always answered ClockProbe at any time on the control stream.
- client: the offset lives in an Arc<AtomicI64> seeded at connect; the
  control task re-probes every 60 s and immediately after the pump's FIRST
  no-op clock flush (the "clock stepped under me" signal, sent on the next
  report tick). On apply: store, reset stale_frames/noop_clock_flushes,
  re-arm the clock detector if a step had disarmed it. The disarm heuristic
  stays as the final backstop. Public NativeClient::clock_offset_ns keeps
  the connect-time value (ABI untouched); new clock_offset_now_ns() /
  clock_offset_shared() expose the live value.
- consumers migrated to the live offset: pf-client-core session stats, the
  pf-presenter e2e stamp, Windows session/render, Android feeder/drain/
  DisplayTracker (the tracker holds the shared handle, not the client, so
  the leaked render-callback refcount can't pin the session).
- probe: --clock-resync runs a second full handshake mid-connection and
  asserts a sane, consistent estimate. Live against the local canary host:
  offsets 8646/2139 ns, disagreement 6 µs, 8/8 rounds — OK.

Unit tests cover the round collection, stale-echo rejection, batch restart,
min-RTT selection, and the acceptance guard. cargo ndk check green.
Remaining manual validation: `sudo date -s "+2 sec"` on a live streaming
client → expect one no-op flush, a re-sync, re-armed detector, no IDR pulse.

Ship the Android client's 3-tier stats-overlay semantics in every other client
(design/stats-unification.md vocabulary): Off → Compact (one line: fps · e2e ms ·
Mb/s + loss flag) → Normal (mode + e2e p50/p95 + loss counters) → Detailed
(decoder path, HDR tag, per-stage latency equation).

Apple: new StatsVerbosity in PunktfunkKit persisted under punktfunk.statsVerbosity
(migrates the legacy hudEnabled bool: explicit off → Off, else Normal). The
existing three-finger tap (TouchMouse, trackpad/pointer modes only — touch
passthrough untouched) now cycles the tiers instead of toggling, matching
Android; ⌃⌥⇧S (menu + captured-state monitor) cycles the same ladder. Tiered
StreamHUDView (compact glass pill / headline HUD / full equation HUD); the iOS
corner disconnect also shows in Compact (the pill carries no button). Tier
pickers on iOS, macOS, tvOS and the gamepad settings UI.

Session stack (Linux + Windows + Deck share punktfunk-session): shared
pf_client_core::trust::StatsVerbosity; Settings grows stats_verbosity with a
show_stats fallback, and writes keep the legacy bool in sync so pre-tier
binaries reading the same JSON agree on off vs on. Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S cycles the
tier and re-renders the OSD immediately from the last stats window; the stdout
stats: line always carries the full Detailed text so the shell status card and
scripts keep a stable shape; --stats bumps Off → Normal without demoting a
richer tier. Tier pickers in the GTK dialog, the WinUI settings page and the
console-UI settings row; shortcut copy updated (GTK shortcuts window, Windows
help, session README). The Windows legacy builtin path keeps its bool HUD.

Tests: tier migration/round-trip in trust.rs, tiered stats_text output in
pf-presenter.

Live-diagnosed on the RTX box during the adaptive-bitrate A/B: 2 of 3 streams died
with VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST at stream start or at a mid-stream encoder rebuild, then
zombied — the demote-to-software path rebuilt the decoder against the same dead
device, FFmpeg wedged inside the rebuild, and the pump flushed a never-draining
backlog every 2 s forever. No OS TDR: the client's own Vulkan misuse. Two causes:

1. The presenter creates ONE graphics-family queue and hands FFmpeg's
   AVVulkanDeviceContext the same family (nb_graphics_queues=1 ⇒ queue 0) for its
   transfer/compute prep — so the pump thread and the presenter thread submitted to
   the SAME VkQueue with no shared lock, violating vkQueueSubmit's external-sync
   rule exactly when FFmpeg puts work on the graphics queue (decoder open /
   frames-context rebuild = stream start and every ABR encoder re-target). New
   guard-less QueueLock (FFmpeg's lock_queue/unlock_queue callbacks are a raw pair)
   shared by all four queue users: FFmpeg (callbacks installed via user_opaque),
   the presenter's submit/present/wait-idle, and the Skia overlay's flushes.

2. Swapchain recreation destroyed the old swapchain + render semaphores after ONE
   fence cycle — the fence proves our submit, not the presentation engine's
   semaphore consumption (VUID-vkDestroySemaphore-05149 +
   VUID-vkDestroySwapchainKHR-01282 on every recreate). Recreate now drains the
   queue (vkQueueWaitIdle under the shared lock — safe now that FFmpeg honours it)
   and destroys immediately; the deferred DisplayGarbage machinery is gone.

Resilience: VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST anywhere in a present error chain is now fatal —
the run loop fails the session loudly instead of demoting to software on a dead
device (the zombie path).

Verified on the RTX box (RTX 4090 → host .21) under VK_LAYER_KHRONOS_validation:
3/3 stream start/stop cycles clean, then 8 mid-stream encoder rebuilds in one
session (4 ABR down-steps under 10% induced loss + 4 clean-link recovery up-steps
— the exact scenarios that previously killed the device): 0 device losses, 0
wedges, both recreate VUIDs gone (previously fired on every path). Remaining
validation messages are FFmpeg's own video-session VUIDs, untouched by this
change. Linux: clippy -D warnings + tests green (home-worker-2).

The windows workflow has been red since a69a83b5: clippy 1.96 rejects the two
field-reassign-with-default view-desc initializers in video_d3d11.rs (now struct
literals), and with clippy failing first, the rustfmt step never ran — cargo fmt
--all had genuine misses queued up in video_d3d11.rs / pf-presenter d3d11.rs +
vk.rs / core abr.rs + client.rs (plus this session's config.rs). Formatting only
beyond the two initializers; no behaviour change.

Verified: clippy -p pf-client-core --all-targets -D warnings clean on the RTX
Windows box, cargo fmt --all --check clean, core lib tests green.

The vendor-agnostic DXVA path for GPUs without Vulkan Video (Intel's Windows driver foremost,
which previously landed on CPU decode). Ported from the retired WinUI presenter's decoder with
its Intel-safe discipline intact (decode pool stays libavcodec-derived — a hand-built pool
broke Intel at the first SubmitDecoderBuffers), on a decode device LUID-matched to the
presenter's adapter.

Hand-off is a ring of shareable BGRA8 textures (SHARED_NTHANDLE | SHARED_KEYEDMUTEX) filled by
the fixed-function ID3D11VideoProcessor (NV12/P010 → BGRA8, colour spaces from the per-frame
CICP; PQ is tone-mapped to SDR by the processor — HDR-first boxes take Vulkan Video). BGRA is
deliberate: importing a multiplanar NV12 D3D11 texture device-losts on NVIDIA however it is
consumed (plane-view sampling and DMA copy both validation-clean, both TDR — bisected), while
single-plane RGBA D3D11↔Vulkan interop is the path Chromium/ANGLE exercise on every driver.
The presenter imports a slot's NT handle per frame (VK_KHR_external_memory_win32, gated on the
spec-required external-format probe) and blits it into the video image — no CSC pass; the DXGI
keyed mutex (key 0 both sides, drop-tolerant) is the cross-API lock and visibility barrier.

Verified live vs a real host at 5120x1440@240 HEVC on an RTX 4090: 240 fps, e2e 2.7/3.0 ms
p50/p95 under the Khronos validation layer — parity with Vulkan Video (2.6 ms); auto still
resolves vulkan on NVIDIA. PUNKTFUNK_DECODER=d3d11va forces it; import/present failures demote
to software on the existing streak contract.

The Skia console UI grows from the single library coverflow into a complete
couch shell (Apple gamepad-UI parity), so a Deck/gamescope session is
self-sufficient end to end:

- Home: host carousel (saved + discovered + Add Host tile) with presence
  pips, paired locks, wake & connect; A/Y/X/B per the Apple launcher.
- In-console SPAKE2 PIN pairing (previously needed the Decky plugin or a
  desktop), add-host with a controller keyboard, couch settings over the
  shared Settings store, wake-on-LAN overlay with retry, cancelable dials.
- Shell chrome: screen stack with push/pop entrance/exit choreography
  (slide + fade + recede; aurora↔form backdrop crossfade), per-pad button
  glyphs (PS shapes vs ABXY, keycaps with no pad), menu haptics, toasts,
  embedded Geist typography, in-stream start banner.
- Steam Deck: our OSK never draws — fields start SDL text input (the new
  Overlay::text_input_active hook) and Steam's keyboard types; a hint chip
  points at STEAM + X. Other Linux gets the full gamepad keyboard tray.
- punktfunk-session: bare --browse opens Home; --browse host opens that
  host's library with Home behind it (Decky launches keep working, B now
  pops instead of quitting). Service threads run discovery, 10 s probes,
  pairing, wake loops, fetches, and known-hosts persistence.
- Presenter contract: Launch actions carry the host, CancelConnect never
  engages a won race, pad kind/list ride FrameCtx, menu events flow while
  dialing so B can cancel.

Every screen renders to PNG on CPU raster for review
(PF_CONSOLE_DUMP=<dir> cargo test -p pf-console-ui -- --ignored dump).

  Poster bytes land in a disk cache (%LOCALAPPDATA%\punktfunk\art-cache) so the

  SessionOpts::window_pos) instead of centered on the primary display - streams
  land on the monitor the shell is on, and the hide/restore handoff reads as one

- E6: the Help shortcuts add Alt+Enter and the controller escape chord
  (LB+RB+Start+Back, hold to disconnect).

- W0: the shell's duplicated trust/settings structs are gone — src/trust.rs
  re-exports pf-client-core's, so the shell and the spawned session binary share
  ONE Settings shape over client-windows-settings.json. Fixes real bugs: the
  shell's saves no longer drop session-side fields; the stats-overlay toggle
  (show_hud -> show_stats, serde alias migrates old files) and the forwarded-
  controller pick now actually reach the spawned session. The "Streaming engine"
  Settings combo is gone (PUNKTFUNK_BUILTIN_STREAM=1 stays as the dev A/B knob).

- Forwarded-controller pinning by stable key (vid:pid:name, pf-client-core's
  format): persisted as forward_pad, applied by the shell's own service at
  startup AND by the session binary in session_params (both OSes — the session
  never applied the pin before).

- A1 single window: the shell hides itself when the spawned session window
  presents its first frame ({"ready":true}) and restores + foregrounds on the
  child's exit — exactly one visible Punktfunk window at any time. Restore runs
  before the request-access cancel gate so a Ready/Cancel race can't strand the
  shell hidden.

- C console UI: punktfunk-session --browse gains --json-status (ready when the
  library window presents; error line on a failed start), and the shell
  surfaces it — "Open console UI" on paired hosts' menus, plus a controller-
  detected hint card targeting the most recent paired host (x64 only; aarch64
  ships no skia ui feature). Browse spawns hide/restore the shell like streams.

- B responsive: minimum window size (420x360); the hosts header collapses to
  icon-only buttons below 700 px; the session status card shrinks instead of
  clipping (max_width); busy pages, help actions, licenses and long labels wrap.

- E polish: session exe gets the app icon (winresource + WM_SETICON via the new
  pf-presenter win32.rs); both exes share an explicit AppUserModelID on
  unpackaged runs (packaged identity wins) so the windows group as one taskbar
  app across the visibility handoff; "Start streams fullscreen" toggle passes
  --fullscreen (GTK parity); connects stamp KnownHost::last_used; the connect
  target is stashed for every route so "Connecting to X" always names the host.
