feat(store): plugin store host module — signed catalogs, tiered trust, install jobs
The index is the verification gate: a catalog entry pins one exact version
plus that version's tarball integrity hash, so 'verified on every release'
is a property of the data rather than a promise about process. Nothing can
express 'track latest' for a catalogued plugin.
- store/index.rs signed index parse + ed25519 verify (ring), validate-and-drop
per entry, semver minHost/advisory ranges
- store/sources.rs built-in unom source (compiled-in URL + two key slots for
rotation) + operator sources in plugin-sources.json
- store/catalog.rs https fetch with size/timeout/redirect caps, signature before
parse, last-good disk cache (stale-but-usable when offline)
- store/jobs.rs single-flight install/uninstall: registry-integrity preflight
against the pin, spawn the runner CLI with live log capture,
post-install version check with rollback, provenance record,
runner restart (discovery is startup-only)
- store/manifest.rs install provenance; absence means CLI-installed
- mgmt/store.rs 12 routes under /api/v1/store, denied to the plugin token
(a plugin that can install plugins is an escalation primitive)
Also generalizes runner discovery and listInstalled from @punktfunk/plugin-*
to ANY scope's plugin-*: catalog entries must be scoped so the scope can map
to that entry's registry, so a third-party plugin necessarily arrives under
its own scope and would otherwise install but never run.

The Windows host clippy CI broke building aws-lc-sys 0.41.0 (a heavy C dep that
cl.exe fails to compile on the runner). The host was the ONLY thing pulling it:
its rcgen used features=["aws_lc_rs"], and bare `rustls`/`tokio-rustls` take
the default (aws-lc-rs) backend, and gamestream/{mod,tls}.rs installed the
aws_lc_rs crypto provider explicitly — a pre-existing deviation from the
project's documented ring-only design (punktfunk-core + the client are ring).
Align the host to ring: rcgen/rustls/tokio-rustls pinned to the `ring` feature
(keeping tls12 for Moonlight/GameStream TLS-1.2 clients) and the two GameStream
provider installs switched to `rustls::crypto::ring::default_provider()`. Both
providers offer the same standard TLS 1.2/1.3 suites, so it's transparent to the
TLS paths; aws-lc-sys/aws-lc-rs leave the tree entirely (`cargo tree -i
aws-lc-sys` => no match). Not caused by the preceding log fix (that touched no
crypto deps / the lock).
Validated: cargo tree (aws-lc-sys gone, windows target, amf-qsv,qsv features) +
.21 host clippy -D warnings (--features nvenc) clean. Owed: GameStream on-glass
re-check with a real Moonlight client (low risk — same TLS suites, client is
already ring).

The `wasapi` audio crate polls the default output device ~1×/s and
`log::debug!`s it (`wasapi::api default device Ok(...)`), flooding host.log
even at RUST_LOG=info: those `log`-crate records reach tracing through the
tracing-log bridge, and at *filter* time they carry the bridge's "log" shim
target, so neither a bare-info EnvFilter nor a `wasapi=warn` directive on the
file layer matches them (the ring already drops them post-hoc via
normalized_metadata + NOISY_DEBUG_TARGETS — the fmt layer filters pre-event and
can't).
Fix at the source: a shared `log_capture::install_global` replaces
SubscriberInitExt::init in both init paths (service file log + interactive
stderr) and inits the tracing-log bridge with `ignore_crate("wasapi")`, so the
poll records are dropped before they ever become tracing events — both sinks go
quiet, while every other log-crate dependency still reaches the console ring
(bridge max-level stays DEBUG). `wasapi` also added to NOISY_DEBUG_TARGETS as
belt-and-suspenders, and `log` moved dev-dep -> dep for LevelFilter.
Validated: .21 clippy (host --features nvenc) clean.

feat(encode): native QSV backend — libvpl-sys + qsv.rs (Phases 0-3 of design/native-qsv-encoder.md)
Vendored MIT VPL dispatcher (static, trimmed tree, pin 674d015b/v2.17.0) built via cmake+bindgen behind new feature 'qsv' (pf-encode + punktfunk-host forward). qsv.rs: dispatcher session on the capture adapter (LUID-matched), SetHandle D3D11, AsyncDepth=1/GopRefDist=1/VDEnc/CBR + HRD-off low-latency config, GetSurfaceForEncode + GPU CopySubresourceRegion input (zero-copy, no readback path), bounded sync-point poll, in-place reset with teardown escalation, no-IDR bitrate retarget (Reset + StartNewSequence=OFF), 10-bit P010 HEVC-Main10/AV1, HDR mastering/CLL SEI-OBU at IDR + BT.2020/PQ VSI, LTR-RFI via mfxExtRefListCtrl (AMF slot policy port, Query-gated per codec, wire-index FrameOrder pinning). Dispatch: native-first with ffmpeg fallback + PUNKTFUNK_QSV_FFMPEG hatch; probes (can_encode_10bit / windows_codec_support / windows_backend_is_probed) now answer natively for QSV. merge(core): reconcile the W7/W8 client refactor with origin's shared-clipboard feature
origin/main landed the shared clipboard (design/clipboard-and-file-transfer.md) while
this branch split quic/msgs.rs -> quic/{caps,control,...} and client.rs ->
client/{mod,control,worker,pump,planes,...} (W7) and deleted the two monoliths. The
feature had modified both deleted files, so its delta is re-applied onto the split
instead of resurrecting the monoliths:
- HOST_CAP_CLIPBOARD -> quic/caps.rs
- MSG_CLIP_* / CLIP_* consts, the six Clip*
structs, and their encode/decode impls -> quic/control.rs (beside the clock codecs)
- CtrlRequest::{ClipControl,ClipOffer} +
Negotiated.host_caps -> client/control.rs
- WorkerArgs.{clip_event_tx,clip_cmd_rx} -> client/worker.rs
- CLIP_EVENT_QUEUE -> client/planes.rs
- NativeClient clip fields, the 7 clip_* /
host_caps / next_clip methods, connect()
channel wiring -> client/mod.rs
- the control-task encode/decode arms and
the clipboard-task spawn -> client/pump.rs
Cargo.lock reconciled (adds pf-clipboard), punktfunk-host/Cargo.toml unions the W6
pf-* subsystem deps with pf-clipboard, and include/punktfunk_core.h is the cbindgen
union (clipboard + rumble C-ABI). punktfunk-core builds --all-features and its 174
lib tests pass, including quic::tests::clip_loopback.

refactor(host/W6.2): extract virtual-display orchestration into the pf-vdisplay crate
vdisplay.rs + vdisplay/* (the per-compositor Linux backends — KWin zkde-screencast,
wlroots swaymsg, Mutter RemoteDesktop, Hyprland — and the Windows IddCx/pf-vdisplay
driver backend, behind one VirtualDisplay trait; the mode-conflict admission
registry, the display policy/identity/custom-preset state, and the session-env /
gamescope routing) move into crates/pf-vdisplay (plan §W6). The DDC/CI panel-power
control (used only here) and the KWin zkde protocol XML move with it. This
completes the host-crate decomposition: capture, encode, inject, and vdisplay are
now four subsystem crates over the shared leaves, and punktfunk-host is the
orchestrator (serve/supervisor + native + gamestream + mgmt).
Coupling breaks (all down-only, cargo-tree acyclic):
- capture::dxgi identity -> pf_frame::dxgi; win_display/monitor_devnode/
console_session_mismatch -> pf-win-display leaf; can_open_another_session ->
pf-encode (the NVENC session-budget admission gate — acyclic peer edge).
- The registry's DisplayCreated/DisplayReleased emits into the host SSE event bus
invert to a leaf hook: pf-vdisplay emits a neutral DisplayEvent to a
host-registered DISPLAY_EVENT_SINK, so it never reaches the orchestrator's
events module.
- The IddCx driver module is renamed pf_vdisplay -> driver (its old name collided
with the crate name through the host's `mod vdisplay` shim glob).
The host keeps `mod vdisplay { pub use pf_vdisplay::* }` so every crate::vdisplay::*
path (serve/mgmt/native/the capture FrameChannelSender seam) is unchanged; the
heavy deps (wayland/ashpd/tokio + the zkde protocol) moved with the crate.
Co-authored: a fail-closed IOCTL-reply-length security fix (reject short/zeroed
pf-vdisplay driver replies before trusting protocol_version/target_id/wudf_pid/luid,
security-review 2026-07-17) rides this commit in the moved driver module.
Verified: Linux clippy -D warnings (pf-vdisplay + host nvenc,vulkan-encode,pyrowave
--all-targets) + pf-vdisplay 63/63 + host 167/167 tests; Windows clippy -D warnings
(pf-vdisplay --all-targets + host nvenc,amf-qsv --all-targets) Finished exit 0.

refactor(host/W6.2): extract the input-injection backends into the pf-inject crate
inject.rs + inject/* (the per-OS injectors — wlroots virtual-input, KWin
fake_input, libei/reis, gamescope-EI on Linux; SendInput on Windows — plus the
virtual-gamepad HID stack: DualSense/DualShock4/Switch Pro/Steam Controller/Deck
over uhid/usbip and the Windows UMDF drivers, the proto codecs, the injector
service, and the uhid manager) move into crates/pf-inject behind the
InputInjector trait (plan §W6). It consumes punktfunk_core::input (the neutral
GamepadEvent/InputEvent vocabulary, moved to core in W5) + the pf-driver-proto
wire contract, and reaches pf-capture only for the Windows gamepad-channel
WUDFHost check + the resident-mouse compose-kick hook.
The one inject->vdisplay coupling (the libei gamescope-EI backend needs the EIS
relay socket path) is broken via a leaf: gamescope_ei_socket_file moves to
pf-paths as the shared contract — the gamescope producer (host vdisplay) keeps
its session-env-lock wrapper around it, the libei consumer (pf-inject) reads it
directly post-retarget. The host keeps a `mod inject { pub use pf_inject::* }`
shim so every crate::inject::* path (the native/gamestream input planes + devtest)
is unchanged; the heavy input deps (wayland/reis/xkbcommon/usbip + the KWin
fake-input protocol XML) moved with the crate.
Verified: Linux clippy -D warnings (pf-inject + host nvenc,vulkan-encode,pyrowave
--all-targets) + pf-inject 69/69 + host 230/230 tests; Windows clippy -D warnings
(pf-inject --all-targets + host nvenc,amf-qsv --all-targets) Finished exit 0.

refactor(host/W6.2): extract the frame-capture backends into the pf-capture crate
capture/linux (PipeWire portal) + capture/windows (IDD direct-push: dxgi mechanics, idd_push + submodules, synthetic_nv12) + pwinit move into crates/pf-capture behind the Capturer trait + synthetic sources (plan §W6). The crate speaks pf-frame (CapturedFrame/PixelFormat + the DXGI identity), pf-zerocopy (CUDA import), and the pf-win-display leaves, and NEVER pf-encode — the capture->encode edge is one-way. This completes the deliberate capture/encode crate split (the invasive path the plan had merged into one pf-media): capture and encode are now separate subsystem crates sharing only pf-frame. Four seams keep the capturer off the orchestrator: - VirtualOutput is EXPLODED into primitives (remote_fd/node_id/preferred_mode/ keepalive) by the host facade, so pf-capture never depends on the vdisplay type; - FrameChannelSender: the sealed-channel delivery is a Send+Sync closure the host facade builds from the pf-vdisplay control device + send_frame_channel IOCTL and hands in; ChannelBroker holds the closure instead of the control HANDLE (the whole-desktop handle-duplication security boundary is byte-for-byte unchanged); - console_session_mismatch + desktop_bounds live in pf-win-display (leaf peers); - pwinit moves here (audio caller -> pf_capture::pwinit). The host keeps capture.rs as a thin BRIDGE: it re-exports the vocabulary + capturer types (every crate::capture::* path is unchanged) and keeps open_portal_monitor / capture_virtual_output, which resolve the ZeroCopyPolicy + FrameChannelSender and call into pf-capture. verify_is_wudfhost + install_gpu_pref_hook are re-exported (the gamepad-channel bootstrap + the main.rs subcommand consume them). Co-developed: the resident-HID-mouse compose-kick hook (HID_COMPOSE_KICK + the HID-first cursor kick + _display_wake) rides this commit into pf-capture; the host mouse_windows registration side lands separately on top. Verified: Linux clippy -D warnings (pf-capture + host nvenc,vulkan-encode,pyrowave --all-targets) + host tests 299/299; Windows clippy -D warnings (pf-capture --all-targets + host nvenc,amf-qsv --all-targets) Finished exit 0. refactor(host/W6.2): extract the video encode backends into the pf-encode crate
encode.rs + encode/* (NVENC, VAAPI, native AMF, AMF/QSV ffmpeg, direct-SDK NVENC/CUDA, raw Vulkan-Video, PyroWave, openh264) move into crates/pf-encode behind one Encoder trait + open_video selector (plan §W6). The crate speaks the shared frame vocabulary (pf-frame: CapturedFrame/PixelFormat + the DXGI identity D3d11Frame/make_device) and pf-zerocopy (CUDA context/buffers), and NEVER pf-capture — the capture→encode edge is one-way (ZeroCopyPolicy, prior commit). Dep moves: the heavy encoder deps (ffmpeg-next, the NVENC SDK, openh264, pyrowave-sys) move from the host to pf-encode; the host's nvenc/amf-qsv/vulkan-encode/pyrowave features now FORWARD to pf-encode/*. The host keeps a mod-encode shim (pub use pf_encode) so every crate::encode::* path (negotiator + GameStream/native/mgmt planes) is unchanged. resolve_render_adapter_luid moves from the host's windows/win_adapter.rs into pf-gpu (both pf-encode and pf-capture need it as a peer of GPU selection); its 5 call sites (encode amf/nvenc, capture idd_push/synthetic_nv12, vdisplay manager) rewire to pf_gpu::resolve_render_adapter_luid and win_adapter.rs is deleted. pf-frame's make_device gains a # Safety section (public-unsafe-fn lint, latent since the pf-frame carve — a full-workspace -D warnings clippy catches it). Verified: Linux clippy -D warnings (pf-encode + host nvenc,vulkan-encode,pyrowave --all-targets) + 13/13 pf-encode + 299/299 host tests; Windows clippy -D warnings (pf-encode nvenc,amf-qsv --all-targets + host nvenc,amf-qsv --all-targets) Finished exit 0. refactor(host/W6.2): extract the Windows display-topology cluster into the pf-win-display leaf crate
windows/{win_display,monitor_devnode,display_events}.rs move into
crates/pf-win-display: the CCD/GDI path-activation + mode-set + HDR
advanced-colour + source-rect helpers, the PnP monitor-devnode enable/disable
lever, and the WM_DISPLAYCHANGE / device-arrival watch. The coming pf-capture
crate's IDD-push capturer consumes all three; the host's pf-vdisplay backend
consumes win_display + monitor_devnode. A leaf lets both depend on them as a
PEER instead of the capturer reaching back into the orchestrator (plan §W6).
win_display's one external tie (crate::vdisplay::Mode) becomes the underlying
punktfunk_core::Mode; the cluster is otherwise self-contained (pf-paths for the
state file, serde_json for it, windows). pub(crate) items bump to pub at the
boundary; win_display carries a module-level allow(missing_safety_doc) to keep
the pre-carve behavior (the FFI helpers were pub(crate) unsafe fn with prose
safety docs — the lint only fires once they're pub, and this is an internal
publish=false leaf). The host imports the three modules at its crate root, so
every crate::{win_display,monitor_devnode,display_events}::* path is unchanged.
Verified: Linux clippy -D warnings (leaf empty + host
nvenc,vulkan-encode,pyrowave --all-targets); Windows clippy -D warnings
(pf-win-display --all-targets + host nvenc,amf-qsv --all-targets) Finished exit 0.

refactor(host/W6.2): extract the shared frame/format vocabulary into the pf-frame leaf crate
The captured-frame types both capture (producer) and encode (consumer) speak —
PixelFormat, OutputFormat, CursorOverlay, CapturedFrame, FramePayload,
DmabufFrame, drm_fourcc — move into crates/pf-frame, alongside the small pure
helpers that ride the same seam: hdr (HDR static metadata / in-band SEI),
metronome (the metronomic-stall detector), thread_qos (per-thread scheduling
QoS), session_tuning (Windows process tuning), and the Windows DXGI capture
IDENTITY (WinCaptureTarget, D3d11Frame, pack_luid, make_device + the GPU
scheduling-priority hardening it applies) (plan §W6).
This is the crate that breaks the capture<->encode cycle: FramePayload's GPU
variants own their backends from BELOW (Cuda -> pf_zerocopy::DeviceBuffer,
D3d11 -> dxgi::D3d11Frame), so encode can speak the vocabulary without a path to
capture, and vice versa. The Windows DXGI identity moving here lets capture,
encode, and pf-vdisplay share ONE WinCaptureTarget/device factory instead of the
old capture<->encode<->vdisplay reach-in.
The host keeps thin facades: capture.rs re-exports the vocabulary
(crate::capture::{PixelFormat,…} unchanged); capture/windows/dxgi.rs keeps the
win32u GPU-preference hook + HDR/video-engine converters + self-test and
re-exports the identity; native.rs re-exports boost_thread_priority from
pf_frame. crate::hdr/metronome/session_tuning callers rewired to pf_frame::*.
metronome's Metronome::new gained a Default impl (new_without_default fires once
the type is public across the crate boundary).
Verified: Linux clippy -D warnings (pf-frame --all-targets + host
nvenc,vulkan-encode,pyrowave --all-targets) + 9/9 pf-frame tests; Windows clippy
nvenc,amf-qsv --all-targets Finished exit 0.

refactor(host/W6.2): extract the Linux zero-copy GPU plumbing into the pf-zerocopy leaf crate
linux/zerocopy/* (CUDA context/buffers + EGL/Vulkan dmabuf import + the isolated import worker) and linux/dmabuf_fence.rs move wholesale into crates/pf-zerocopy, so the coming pf-frame vocabulary crate (FramePayload::Cuda owns a DeviceBuffer) and the pf-encode/pf-capture subsystem crates can reach the GPU plumbing without the host orchestrator in between (plan §W6). Content stays Linux-only; the crate compiles to an empty lib elsewhere, so dependents carry a plain dependency. drm_fourcc deliberately does NOT move: it consumes the frame vocabulary (PixelFormat), which sits ABOVE pf-zerocopy — it lives with capture for now and moves into pf-frame next. cuda's ffi re-export bumps pub(crate)->pub (the raw CUdeviceptr vocabulary is consumed across the crate boundary by the encode backends). A crate::zerocopy shim module keeps every existing path valid until capture/encode themselves move out. Verified: Linux clippy -D warnings (pf-zerocopy --all-targets + host nvenc,vulkan-encode,pyrowave --all-targets) + 17/17 pf-zerocopy tests + 321/321 host tests; Windows clippy nvenc,amf-qsv --all-targets Finished exit 0. refactor(host/W6.1): extract GPU vendor/adapter detection into the pf-gpu leaf crate
Fourth de-coupling for the host crate carve (plan §W6.1 leaf). gpu.rs (inventory, selection preference, active-session accounting — deps only pf-host-config + pf-paths, no subsystem refs) moves to a new pf-gpu leaf so pf-encode/pf-capture/pf-vdisplay can consult the selected GPU without an orchestrator edge. ~50 crate::gpu:: sites repoint to pf_gpu::; the ~30 pub(crate) items become pub (crate API). assign_ids gets a macOS-only allow(dead_code) (used only by the Linux/Windows enumerate arms). Verified: Linux (home-worker-5) clippy -p pf-gpu -p punktfunk-host --all-targets -D warnings + pf-gpu tests (12 pass); Windows (192.168.1.158) clippy --features nvenc,amf-qsv --all-targets green. refactor(host/W6.1): extract the config() global into the pf-host-config leaf crate
Third de-coupling for the host crate carve (plan §W6.1 leaf). HostConfig + the config() OnceLock (config.rs, pure std, zero deps) move to a new pf-host-config leaf so every subsystem crate (pf-encode/pf-capture/pf-vdisplay/pf-gpu) can read process config WITHOUT depending on the orchestrator. 34 crate::config::config() call sites across 19 files repoint to pf_host_config::config(). thread_qos stays in the host for now (it calls session_tuning::on_hot_thread — its own leaf-ification rides the encode carve). Granular-crate decision (supersedes the plan's single pf-media): split capture/encode/ vdisplay into separate crates rather than one broad crate — the capture↔encode cycle is broken by a shared frame-types leaf, and vdisplay→encode (can_open_another_session) is a legal one-way edge since encode never references vdisplay. Verified: Linux (home-worker-5) clippy -p pf-host-config -p punktfunk-host --all-targets -D warnings; Windows (192.168.1.158) clippy --features nvenc,amf-qsv --all-targets green. refactor(host/W6.1): extract secret/config-dir helpers into the pf-paths leaf crate
Second de-coupling for the host crate carve (plan §W6.1 leaf). config_dir / create_private_dir / write_secret_file (+ the Windows DACL helpers) were pub(crate) in the gamestream junk drawer, yet consumed by vdisplay, stats, gpu, library, mgmt_token, native_pairing and the Windows service — many of which become pf-media / pf-vdisplay, for which crate::gamestream would be an illegal upward edge. New leaf crate pf-paths (pure std + tracing) owns them; ~40 call sites across 14 files repoint to pf_paths::. gamestream keeps only its own concerns. Verified: Linux (home-worker-5) clippy -p pf-paths -p punktfunk-host --all-targets -D warnings + tests (347 pass, incl. secrets_are_written_owner_only); Windows (192.168.1.158) clippy --features nvenc,amf-qsv --all-targets green. hooks.json (RFC §6): commands and webhooks fired on host lifecycle events, managed over GET|PUT /api/v1/hooks (validated, applied immediately) and dispatched fire-and-forget by a bus-subscriber runner — hooks observe, never veto, and no operator code sits in any streaming path. - exec: detached sh -c with the event JSON on stdin + flat PF_EVENT_* env (the PF_STREAM_* vocabulary's sibling), per-hook timeout (default 30 s) with process-group kill, off-thread reap, per-hook debounce, bounded concurrency (8 in flight, excess dropped loudly). Windows runs hooks in the interactive user session (temp-file JSON argument; console-mode dev hosts get env + stdin like Unix). - webhook: POST the event JSON, TLS-verified, redirects never followed, no punktfunk credentials outbound; optional per-hook secret file yields X-Punktfunk-Signature: sha256=<hex HMAC> (fails closed if unreadable). - filters: exact-match client/fingerprint/plane/app + the same kind patterns as the SSE ?kinds= filter (shared crate::events::kind_matches). - hardening (RFC §9.1): hooks.json via the private-dir/secret-file helpers; a hook script path must be operator/root-owned and not group/world-writable or it is refused loudly (the sshd rule). - env mirrors PUNKTFUNK_ON_CONNECT_CMD / PUNKTFUNK_ON_DISCONNECT_CMD for the zero-config cases, beside PUNKTFUNK_RECOVER_SESSION_CMD. Live-verified on Linux: PUT config via API → library.changed fired a real script (env + stdin observed) and an HMAC webhook (receiver-verified signature); a chmod-777 script was refused. 342 host tests green (store/validation/filter/env-flatten/exec-timeout/ownership + routes), clippy clean. chore: consolidate parallel-session WIP (HOLD — do not push)
Local snapshot of intermingled in-flight work, committed to unblock the encode
refactor (a clean ffmpeg_win.rs for the vbv-dedup follow-on). These hunks span
the same files and can't be cleanly split here; the commit bundles three
distinct workstreams that each belong in their own PR:
- logging rework (~43 files: level re-tiering, structured fields, `?e`,
hot-path flood latches)
- conflicting-host detection (detect.rs + detect/{linux,windows}.rs + wiring
in main.rs/mgmt.rs/Cargo.toml/docs/packaging)
- standby-sink DWM-stall attribution (windows/display_events.rs + capture/
vdisplay wiring)
NOT verified as a combination. NOT to be pushed until the refactor is done and
these are re-verified and reorganized into their proper per-workstream PRs.

feat(gamepad): SC2 Puck-dongle passthrough with the native 28DE:1304 topology
Community-contributed round 5 of the Steam Controller 2 passthrough, reviewed + verified. A Puck-captured pad now presents the dongle's real seven-interface identity (CDC pair, four controller HID slots, management HID) instead of relabelling its reports as a wired 1302 — Steam's Puck feature dances (wireless_transport / esb/bond / 0xB4 slot status) get capture-shaped answers, and the wired identity's canned replies are corrected to the real captures (attribute count, string-attr framing, 0xF2 firmware info, bcdDevice nibble encoding). - new wire pref 10 = SteamController2Puck (Hello/Welcome byte; older peers degrade to Auto), selected by the Android capture link when the transport is a dongle, or by VID/PID in the degraded InputDevice path - TRITON_RDESC is now the captured numbered descriptor (mouse/keyboard lizard collections + per-id vendor reports); unnumbered framing made hidraw mangle feature report 2 and Steam eventually closed the device - interrupt-IN now queues sparse reports (battery/RSSI/wireless edges) instead of keeping latest-only, so a 250 Hz state packet can no longer erase them before the USB/IP poll observes them; EP0 SET_REPORT is split by wValue report type (OUTPUT parsed for rumble vs FEATURE) - vendored usbip-sim: config attributes/max-power, IAD prefix + BOS descriptor support, correct BCD minor.patch encoding (Deck's 0x0300/ 0x0200 values are nibble-zero, so its bytes are unchanged), and full-speed interrupt pacing in ms (was 8 kHz from the HS formula) - Triton feedback is serviced at 1 kHz while an SC2 backend exists so Steam's trackpad haptic writes reach the client unbatched Verified: clippy -D warnings + 319 host tests green on Linux, core wire tests green, Android kit/app compile + unit tests green. On-glass Puck retest owed. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Flip the `pyrowave` cargo feature into the default set across punktfunk-host, pf-client-core, pf-presenter and the session client — every packaged build (flatpak, arch/rpm/copr, windows x64 client) now carries the codec. Selection stays strictly per-session opt-in: a client must pick "PyroWave (wired LAN)" in Settings (or PUNKTFUNK_PREFER_PYROWAVE=1); nothing changes for normal HEVC/AV1 sessions. The Windows ARM64 client leg builds --no-default-features and keeps skipping it (decode is Linux-native + Apple Metal today). Advertisement no longer waits for the PUNKTFUNK_ENCODER=pyrowave lab override on NVIDIA: host_wire_caps sets the bit whenever the feature is present and the host isn't the GPU-less software pref, and SessionPlan::output_format flips a PyroWave session on the NVIDIA-auto capture path to CPU RGB frames (the EGL→CUDA import only NVENC consumes; the wavelet backend ingests raw dmabufs or CPU RGB). AMD/Intel keep their raw-dmabuf zero-copy unchanged; per-session raw-dmabuf passthrough on NVIDIA (true zero-copy without the env's global capture policy) stays a follow-up. On-glass on .21 (RTX 5070 Ti, default-features binaries, NO env overrides): host advertises + negotiates PyroWave, the CPU-capture fallback engages, 60 fps at e2e 3.2-5.7 ms p50, and a mid-stream 1080p→720p resize rides on top cleanly. Workspace clippy --locked clean; 33 client + 314 host tests. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(host): PyroWave encoder — Phase 1 of the LAN low-latency codec plan
PyroWaveEncoder behind --features pyrowave + an explicit PUNKTFUNK_ENCODER=pyrowave (loud EXPERIMENTAL warning: no client can decode the stream until CODEC_PYROWAVE negotiation lands, plan Phase 2). Design (plan §4.3): a private ash Vulkan-1.3 device shared with pyrowave via pyrowave_create_device — DeviceHold pins the instance/device create-infos the 0.4.0 API requires alive for the device's lifetime. Capture dmabufs pass straight through on ANY vendor (linux_zero_copy_is_vaapi → true for pyrowave; NVIDIA dmabuf→Vulkan import validated by upstream's interop test on .21) with the same per-buffer import cache as the Vulkan Video backend; the shared rgb2yuv.comp BT.709-limited CSC writes R8+RG8 images pyrowave samples directly (R/G view swizzles synthesize Cb/Cr — no NV12 copy). Encode records into OUR command buffer (pyrowave_device_set_command_buffer), so ingest + CSC + encode are one submission with a sub-ms fence wait; the AU is exactly one pyrowave packet, keyframe=true on every frame. reconfigure_bitrate is a free in-place budget change (Phase 3 pins the session rate); reset() recreates only the pyrowave encoder object. Shared ash leaf helpers (dmabuf import, image/memory utils) extracted from vulkan_video.rs into encode/linux/vk_util.rs — vulkan-encode builds unchanged. Validated on .21 (RTX 5070 Ti): pyrowave_smoke green — encodes CPU fills through the full open→CSC→GPU-encode→packetize path, decodes every AU with upstream's own decoder, checks BT.709 plane means ±3; rate retarget + rebuild covered. clippy clean, 308 host tests green with the feature on. feat(encode): raw Vulkan Video HEVC backend on Linux (AMD/Intel) with real RFI
Add `VulkanVideoEncoder` (`VK_KHR_video_encode_h265` via ash) — the open-stack twin of the direct-NVENC RFI path, giving AMD/Intel Linux hosts real reference-frame invalidation loss recovery: a clean P-frame recovery anchor that re-references a known-good older frame instead of a full IDR. The app owns the DPB, so recovery = pointing the P-frame's single L0 reference at a resident slot strictly older than the loss (never a concealed frame). The backend owns its own ash instance/device with encode + compute queues, authors VPS/SPS/PPS (Main, conformance-window crop for non-16-aligned heights like 1080->1088), runs a DPB-ring reference-slot state machine with monotonic POC and CBR rate control, and does an on-GPU RGB->NV12 BT.709 compute CSC (embedded rgb2yuv.spv) since capture delivers packed-RGB dmabufs — importing each frame's dmabuf (explicit DRM modifier) or uploading a CPU-RGB fallback, CSC on the compute queue, then encode on the encode queue, ordered by a semaphore. Wired into `open_video_backend`: an AMD/Intel HEVC session opens this instead of libav VAAPI when `PUNKTFUNK_VULKAN_ENCODE=1` (VAAPI fallback on any open error, so it can only improve recovery, never break a stream); `PUNKTFUNK_ ENCODER=vulkan` forces it. Gated behind the new `vulkan-encode` Cargo feature, which pulls no new dependency (reuses the `ash` bindings already carried for the dmabuf zero-copy bridge). Opt-in until on-glass validated, mirroring how the direct-NVENC path shipped. Headless-validated on real RADV (RDNA3 780M, Mesa 26): open + multi-frame encode + `invalidate_ref_frames` all run through the real struct and ffmpeg decodes the output `I P P P P P` with 0 errors; the recovery frame is a clean P-frame (not an IDR); and dropping the "lost" AU still decodes cleanly because the recovery re-anchored to an older frame — the RFI heal, proven on real hardware. `cargo check`/`clippy -D warnings` green with the feature on and off. Design: design/linux-vulkan-video-encode.md. Harness: design/vkenc-probe-harness/. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Phase 5.2 of design/encoder-recovery-hardening.md (design/linux-direct-nvenc.md). The Linux NVIDIA host encodes through libavcodec `hevc_nvenc`, which structurally cannot express `nvEncInvalidateRefFrames` — so every FEC-unrecoverable loss is a full IDR and, since the client freezes-until-reanchor, a per-loss freeze for RTT+IDR-encode. This ports the Windows raw-NVENC backend to NV_ENC_DEVICE_TYPE_CUDA over the shared CUcontext so Linux NVIDIA gets the same real RFI + F2 recovery-anchor + reset() stall lever + HDR-SEI/Main10 plumbing. New `encode/linux/nvenc_cuda.rs` (`NvencCudaEncoder`): - runtime-loaded entry table via `dlopen libnvidia-encode.so.1` (never link-time, mirroring the zerocopy::cuda libcuda loader) — one binary still starts on AMD/Intel Linux boxes and falls through to VAAPI/software; - session on the shared CUcontext (zerocopy::cuda::context()); - an encoder-owned ring of registered CUDADEVICEPTR input surfaces (zerocopy::cuda::InputSurface + a contiguous-NV12 allocator), each captured DeviceBuffer device→device copied in via the existing copy_* helpers — mirrors the libav recycled-hwframe-pool copy, so zero regression vs today; - config/RFI/anchor/reset ported from the Windows backend; sync-only (NVENC async is Windows-only, so that whole subsystem is dropped); - Main10/HDR-SEI wired but inert until a Linux P010 capture path (Phase 5.1). Wired behind PUNKTFUNK_NVENC_DIRECT (default OFF) in open_nvenc_probed; the Windows path is untouched (no shared extraction in v1). Two on-hardware `#[ignore]` smokes added. Validated on .21 (RTX 5070 Ti, driver 610.43.03): builds on Linux under ci-check, clippy-clean, full host suite 272/0, NV12 smoke (8 AUs, real invalidate_ref_frames + recovery_anchor on a P-frame) and YUV444 FREXT smoke (6 AUs, chroma_444) green; Windows compile unaffected. Owed: the client-in-the-loop matrix (RFI-survives-ABR, reset() heal, A/B vs libav) and the default flip. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(host): crash visibility + Windows deliberate-quit teardown; pin outranks quit
Two strands from the "Windows host went Offline after reconnect, zero errors in the logs" investigation. Crash visibility — the field reports kept arriving with nothing in the Logs tab because every way the host can die silently was unlogged: - A panic hook tees each panic (thread, location, backtrace) through `tracing` into the in-memory ring + host.log before the default hook runs — a panicking thread otherwise only hit stderr, absent from the web console and gone when stderr is detached. - A last-resort Windows SEH filter (windows/crash.rs) logs an unhandled native exception with its code, faulting address, and faulting MODULE — the smoking gun that separates our bug from a GPU runtime/driver DLL (amfrt64, the UMD, d3d11) crashing under us. - A 10 s watchdog around the vdisplay monitor teardown logs an ERROR when the driver REMOVE/CCD-restore looks wedged (it runs under the manager state lock, so a hang there silently blocks every future acquire). Deliberate-quit teardown (Windows pf-vdisplay) — the Windows manager never wired the linger skip the Linux registry has: on ⌘D (the QUIT close code) the monitor lingered 10 s, so a quick reconnect hit the Lingering-preempt's back-to-back REMOVE→ADD churn. A per-lease quit flag (VirtualDisplay:: set_quit_flag) now tears the monitor down immediately on a deliberate quit, so the reconnect finds the manager Idle and does a clean fresh ADD. Pin outranks quit (both platforms) — keep_alive=forever (the gaming-rig preset) promises "the screen stays alive", so a deliberate quit must skip only the linger WINDOW, never the pin. Windows release() checks keep_alive_forever() before the quit; the Linux registry had the inverse bug (force_immediate tore down even a pinned display) — fixed via effective_linger() with a unit test. feat(core,host): Wake-on-LAN sender + host MAC advertisement
Add a runtime-free Wake-on-LAN sender in punktfunk-core (per-interface subnet-directed broadcast + 255.255.255.255 on ports 9/7, repeated, optional last-known-IP unicast) exposed both as a Rust fn and a punktfunk_wake_on_lan C-ABI (ABI v3), plus a parse_mac helper. The host enumerates its wake-capable NIC MAC(s) and advertises them in a new mDNS `mac` TXT record (routed NIC first), and best-effort detects & warns (never modifies) when the NIC isn't armed for WoL. MAC delivery is via the unauthenticated mDNS TXT rather than the connection handshake by design: a spoofed MAC only makes a wake fail (the packet is inert; the cert fingerprint still gates the connection), and it avoids threading through the hot connect path. feat(host/windows): "Punktfunk Host" identity in Task Manager (icon + version info)
punktfunk-host.exe embedded no icon or version resources, so Task Manager and Explorer showed a bare lowercase exe name with a generic icon. build.rs now embeds the branded .ico + FileDescription "Punktfunk Host" / ProductName "Punktfunk" via winresource (same pattern as the Windows client and the tray; Linux packaging builds skip the block). The tray gets a matching "Punktfunk Tray" description, and the SCM display name moves off lowercase "punktfunk streaming host" to "Punktfunk Host" (applied idempotently by `service install` on upgrade). fix(encode/windows): resolve NVENC at runtime — AMD/Intel hosts no longer crash at start
The nvenc build linked nvEncodeAPI64.dll's entry points at load time, so a --features nvenc binary hard-crashed on any box without the NVIDIA driver (AMD/Intel). Entry points now come from a runtime LoadLibrary table (encode/windows/nvenc.rs load_api); a missing DLL just falls through the encoder auto-detect to AMF/QSV/software. The generated import lib and all its plumbing (gen-nvenc-importlib.ps1, nvenc.def, PUNKTFUNK_NVENC_LIB_DIR, setup-build-env wiring) are gone. fix(host/logs): mdns-sd noise gate + tracing-log target normalization in the log ring
log-crate events arrive through the tracing-log bridge under the shim target "log" — normalize them back to the real module path (NormalizeEvent) so the console's target column and the noise gate see mdns_sd::… , and suppress the bridge's log.* bookkeeping fields like the stderr fmt layer does. Gate known-chatty third-party DEBUG targets (mdns-sd DEBUG-logs every unparseable multicast packet — one AirPlay device floods thousands of entries per hour) to INFO-and-up in the ring, so ambient LAN noise can't evict the tail the ring exists to preserve. stderr under RUST_LOG is unaffected. Phase 1 of codec negotiation, and the Linux software H.264 encode path it unblocks. **Codec negotiation (core `quic`):** - `Hello.video_codecs` (bitfield: CODEC_H264/HEVC/AV1) — the client advertises what it can decode; appended as a trailing byte (older client → 0 = HEVC-only, back-compat). - `Welcome.codec` — the single codec the host resolved and will emit; trailing byte (older host → HEVC). - `resolve_codec(client, host_capable)` picks the shared codec (precedence HEVC > AV1 > H.264) or `None` → the host refuses honestly rather than sending an undecodable stream. - Roundtrip + back-compat tests; cbindgen exports the CODEC_* constants. **Software encoder (host):** - The openh264 `OpenH264Encoder` (was Windows-only) is now built on Linux too — it's platform-agnostic (consumes CPU RGB `CapturedFrame`s, statically-bundled openh264). `openh264` moved to the shared linux+windows Cargo target. - `PUNKTFUNK_ENCODER=software` selects it: `open_video` gains a `software` branch (H.264 only), and `session_plan::resolve_encoder` / `capture::gpu_encode` resolve `EncoderBackend::Software` → `output_format().gpu = false`, so the portal capturer delivers CPU RGB. Explicit-only (auto never picks it — a box with a dead driver still has /dev/nvidiactl and would mis-resolve NVENC). **Host codec resolution (`punktfunk1`):** - The native path no longer hardcodes HEVC: it resolves the codec from the client's advertised set ∩ the host's capability (`Codec::host_wire_caps`: software→H.264, else HEVC), threads it through `SessionPlan.codec`, and opens the encoder + validates reconfigures at that codec. A software host + HEVC-only client is refused with a clear error. - 4:4:4 is gated on HEVC (it's HEVC-only). **Probe:** advertises H264|HEVC|AV1 and logs the resolved codec. Validated on the GPU-less dev box: negotiation is live end-to-end (probe advertises 0x07 → host resolves H.264 → Welcome reports it → plan = Software/H264), and the openh264 unit test (CPU RGB → AnnexB IDR) now runs on Linux. Full capture→encode still needs a GPU on this box — every compositor screencast path (KWin GL, gamescope VK_EXT_physical_device_drm, wlroots EGL) requires one; software render (llvmpipe/pixman) can't be captured — so this box exercises negotiation + encoder, not live capture. The software path unblocks GPU-less-*encode* boxes that still have a display GPU. Phase 2 (clients advertising real codecs + decoding per Welcome.codec) is a follow-up. feat(windows-host): mic passthrough — auto-wire audio devices + bundle VB-CABLE
The Windows virtual mic worked only with manual Sound-settings fiddling: on a headless host (no real audio output) BOTH the desktop-audio loopback and the virtual mic must run on virtual cables, and on DIFFERENT ones or the loopback re-captures the injected mic (echo). The Steam pair gives only one usable cable (Steam Streaming Speakers loopback is silent — validated), so the mic + loopback collided and echoed, and when the default playback happened to be the mic device the anti-echo guard reported the mic "unavailable". Host now auto-wires the devices at startup (audio/windows/audio_control.rs, ensure_wired_once, hooked from open_audio_capture/open_virtual_mic): default playback = a loopback-capable render that is NOT a cable and NOT the dead Steam Speakers (real output > Steam Streaming Microphone); default recording = the mic capture (VB-Cable "CABLE Output" preferred). Uses a hand-rolled IPolicyConfig vtable (the only way to set a default endpoint; not in windows/wasapi crates). Opt out with PUNKTFUNK_KEEP_DEFAULT. wasapi_mic candidates now prefer "cable input". Validated live: from a deliberately-wrong start (playback=CABLE Input) the host corrected both default endpoints at the OS level. A Windows audio endpoint can only be created by a kernel-mode driver (no UMDF path — ACX is KMDF-only), so we cannot self-sign our own like the UMDF gamepad/ display drivers. Instead the installer bundles + silently installs the official base VB-CABLE (VB-Audio donationware, vendor-signed → loads with no test-signing, redistributed under VB-Audio's bundling grant): install-vbcable.ps1 (seed the VB-Audio cert into TrustedPublisher, run -i -h) + an installaudiocable task, gated on -VbCableDir/$env:VBCABLE_DIR (the package binary is not in the repo). Attribution in packaging/windows/licenses/VB-CABLE-NOTICE.txt. .iss compiles with the path enabled. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(host/steam): shippable usbip/vhci_hcd virtual Deck + client leave-shortcuts
Steam Deck pass-through (design/steam-deck-passthrough-plan.md), code-complete + all CI checks green on Linux + adversarially reviewed; on-glass validation pending: - usbip/`vhci_hcd` virtual Deck transport (inject/linux/steam_usbip.rs) for non-SteamOS hosts (Bazzite/generic) — presents a real interface-2 USB Deck so Steam Input promotes it. In-process vhci attach (loopback OP_REQ_IMPORT handshake → sysfs attach) with a bounded `usbip`-CLI fallback; detach on drop. - Backed by a vendored, libusb-free trim of the `usbip` crate (crates/punktfunk-host/vendor/usbip-sim, MIT + NOTICE; host/cdc/hid + rusb/nusb removed; interrupt-IN paced by bInterval). - Selection ladder raw_gadget (SteamOS fast-path) → usbip (universal) → UHID, with PUNKTFUNK_STEAM_USBIP / PUNKTFUNK_USBIP_ATTACH knobs. - Shared Deck descriptors + the 0x83/0xAE feature contract + a Steam-accepted serial consolidated into steam_proto.rs; the raw_gadget backend reuses them. - Linux client leave-shortcuts: Ctrl+Alt+Shift+D + holding the escape chord (L1+R1+Start+Select) >=1.5s end the session (short press still exits fullscreen); the chord state resets across sessions. Also bundles in-progress work already staged in the tree: - host(kwin): xdg-output logical-geometry mapping so the KWin fake_input backend places absolute coordinates correctly under display scaling. - docs: design/README index entries + design/controller-only-mode.md. chore(deps): drop unmaintained rustls-pemfile; axum-server 0.7 -> 0.8
axum-server was used only for the plain-HTTP nvhttp listener, but we enabled its tls-rustls feature (HTTPS is hand-rolled over tokio-rustls) — and that feature was what pulled the unmaintained rustls-pemfile (RUSTSEC-2025-0134). Drop the feature, bump axum-server to 0.8 (0.8 also no longer pulls it), and move our own PEM parsing in gamestream/tls.rs to rustls-pki-types' PemObject (the same path punktfunk-core/quic.rs already uses), removing our direct rustls-pemfile dep too. Net: rustls-pemfile fully gone; dependency graph trimmed 547 -> 529 crates (the tls-rustls feature also dragged in prettyplease + a wasm-tooling chain). cargo audit now reports only audiopus_sys + paste (transitive, latest, no successor). 108 host tests + clippy + fmt green. chore(licensing): LGPL FFmpeg swap, third-party notices, attribution hygiene
The MIT OR Apache-2.0 SOURCE license is clean (audit found no copied copyleft); the
gaps were all binary-distribution (Layer-2). This makes the shipped artifacts honest:
- Windows host + client: bundled FFmpeg BtbN gpl-shared -> lgpl-shared (AMF/QSV/decode
unaffected; the GPL-only x264/x265 were never used), and ship the FFmpeg LGPL notice
+ license text in the installer + MSIX (licenses/).
- THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt generated + bundled into installer/MSIX/deb/rpm. Offline
generator (scripts/gen-third-party-notices.{py,sh}) + cargo-about config (about.toml/
.hbs) with a permissive-only accepted-license allow-list as a copyleft regression gate.
- Reword the win32u GPU-preference hook comments to reflect independent reimplementation
(no Apollo/Sunshine GPL-3.0 source copied).
- README dual-license + inbound=outbound contributor clause + non-affiliation trademark
disclaimer; new CONTRIBUTING.md.
- LICENSE files into the standalone driver + vk-layer workspaces; deb copyright holder
aligned to "unom and the punktfunk contributors".

feat(audio): end-to-end 5.1/7.1 surround across the native path + all clients
Adds negotiated 5.1/7.1 surround to the punktfunk/1 protocol and every client (previously stereo-only): - core: new shared `audio` layout table (LAYOUT_51/71 + identity multistream mapping, canonical wire order FL FR FC LFE RL RR SL SR); Hello/Welcome `audio_channels` negotiation via the trailing-byte back-compat pattern (old peers fall back to stereo); C-ABI `punktfunk_connect_ex6`, `punktfunk_connection_audio_channels`, and in-core multistream decode `punktfunk_connection_next_audio_pcm` for embedders without a multistream Opus decoder. Real-libopus channel-identity round-trip test. - host: native audio thread captures + Opus-(multi)stream-encodes at the negotiated count (with a cross-session cached-capturer channel-mismatch fix); GameStream surround unified onto the safe `opus::MSEncoder`, dropping `audiopus_sys` (~4 unsafe blocks) and un-gating Windows GameStream surround; WASAPI loopback capture relaxed to 2/6/8 with the correct dwChannelMask. - clients: Linux (PipeWire), Windows (WASAPI), Android (AAudio) decode via `opus::MSDecoder` + render multichannel; Apple decodes in-core to PCM → AVAudioEngine with an explicit wire-order channel layout; each gains a Stereo/5.1/7.1 setting. `punktfunk-probe --audio-channels N` is the headless validator. Verified on Linux: core/host/linux/probe test suites + the Android Rust (cargo-ndk) build, clippy -D warnings, and rustfmt all green. Windows/Apple builds, all on-glass checks, and the live native loopback are pending (CI / a free box). Also lands the concurrent in-tree HEVC 4:4:4 host work (PUNKTFUNK_444): it shares the same touched files (quic.rs, punktfunk1.rs, encode/*, ...) and so cannot be committed separately from the surround changes. feat(library): shared cover-art warmer + cache (GOG + Xbox art)
A disk-backed art cache (library-art-cache.json in the canonical host config dir) is the source of truth read by all_games(), so the library list + launch-resolve never block on the network. A host-lifetime background warmer (start_art_warmer, started in serve()) fetches uncached art OFF the hot path: GOG via the public no-auth api.gog.com product API, Xbox via the unofficial no-auth displaycatalog (keyed by StoreId). Both best-effort (protocol-relative URLs normalized to https; results cached even when empty so they aren't re-fetched). The GOG + Xbox providers now read cached_art() (title-only until warmed). Cross-platform (ureq blocking HTTP — no tokio on this path) so the fetch/parse code is compiled + checked everywhere; a host whose stores all self-provide art (Steam CDN / Heroic CDN / Lutris data: URLs) does no fetching. feat(library): Windows Xbox / Game Pass store provider
XboxProvider scans each fixed drive's <drive>:\XboxGames for GDK games (presence of Content\MicrosoftGame.config marks a game vs. an ordinary UWP app), parsing title / Identity name / Executable Id / StoreId via roxmltree. The PackageFamilyName is READ from the AppRepository\Packages\<PackageFullName> dir name (reduced to Name_Hash) — never computed from the publisher. Launch via the AUMID (shell:AppsFolder\<PFN>!<AppId>) through explorer in the interactive user session (UWP activation needs the user token, which spawn_in_active_session already provides). Cover art (displaycatalog) is deferred → title-only. Known v1 gaps: custom .GamingRoot install folders + non-GDK pure-UWP Store games (under the ACL-locked WindowsApps) aren't enumerated. New windows_launch_for `aumid` arm; XboxProvider wired into all_games() under cfg(windows). Dep: roxmltree (Windows). Windows unit tests cover MicrosoftGame.config parsing (incl. the ms-resource title fallback), the PackageFullName→PFN reduction, and the aumid launch. feat(library): Windows Epic + GOG store providers
EpicProvider reads the launcher's local .item manifests under %ProgramData% (no auth, launcher need not run) with Playnite's exclusion filter (skip UE_* components + non-launchable addons + dead install dirs); cover art from the base64 catcache.bin (public Epic CDN, best-effort). Launch via the com.epicgames.launcher:// URI opened through explorer.exe — the namespace:catalogItemId:appName triple, with a bare-appName fallback so a launch is never dropped. GogProvider enumerates HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\GOG.com\Games (winreg) + each goggame-<id>.info primary FileTask into a direct-exe spawn (no Galaxy, dodges its cold-start/anti-cheat). GOG cover art (public api.gog.com) is deferred — it needs an HTTP fetch + cache off the hot all_games() path — so GOG is title-only for now. windows_launch_for gains epic/gog arms; both providers wired into all_games() under cfg(windows). Deps: base64 moved to the cross-platform table (Epic catcache decode + Lutris art encode both need it); winreg added on the Windows target. Windows unit tests cover the Epic exclusion filter + URI builder and the GOG spawn + play-task parsing. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(library): Lutris + Heroic store providers (Linux)
LutrisProvider reads the local pga.db (rusqlite, read-only/immutable so a running Lutris can't block us) → installed games, launch via `lutris lutris:rungameid/<id>`, cover art from Lutris's on-disk cache inlined as data: URLs (no public CDN keyed by a stable id, unlike Steam/Heroic). HeroicProvider parses Heroic's store_cache JSON — legendary/gog/nile = Epic+GOG+Amazon in one provider — installed-only with an install-dir existence cross-check (works around Heroic's gog is_installed bug #2691), free public CDN cover art, launch via `heroic --no-gui heroic://launch?...` (the single-instance-Electron gamescope-escape caveat is documented; needs live confirm). New command_for arms (lutris_id digits-guard, heroic runner+appName-guard) + both providers wired into all_games(); everything Linux-gated (the launchers are Linux-only), so the Windows/macOS host build is unaffected. Deps rusqlite (bundled SQLite, no system dep) + base64 added to the Linux target only. Unit tests with sqlite/json fixtures (installed-only filtering, CDN-art mapping, launch guards); live `library` enumeration returns [] gracefully on a box without the launchers. refactor: rename pf-vdisplay-proto -> pf-driver-proto (it spans all drivers)
The shared host<->driver ABI crate already contains more than the virtual display: the IDD-push frame ring + control plane AND the gamepad shared-memory layouts (XusbShm / PadShm). "pf-vdisplay-proto" was a misnomer — the name now represents all the drivers it serves. Mechanical rename, no behavior change: - git mv crates/pf-vdisplay-proto -> crates/pf-driver-proto (package name + path-deps in the host crate and the driver workspace). - pf_vdisplay_proto -> pf_driver_proto across host + driver Rust, both Cargo.lock files, the workspace members, the CI path triggers (windows-drivers.yml), and the docs/INF comments. The runtime Global\pfvd-* shared-object names are a SEPARATE contract and are deliberately untouched (host<->driver name matching). - The pf-vdisplay DRIVER crate + its INF service name (Root\pf_vdisplay, UmdfService=pf_vdisplay, pf_vdisplay.dll) are unchanged — only the full `pf_vdisplay_proto` token was replaced, never the `pf_vdisplay` driver name. Linux-verified: cargo test -p pf-driver-proto (const size-asserts compile) + cargo clippy -p punktfunk-host -D warnings clean; Cargo.lock regenerated. The driver-workspace side (path-dep + imports + its Cargo.lock) is Windows-CI-gated. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(windows-host): STEP 4 (3/n) — host pf_vdisplay backend (talks to the new driver)
The host can now drive the new pf-vdisplay IddCx driver instead of SudoVDA. Compiles clean on BOTH Windows (cargo check -p punktfunk-host green) and Linux (cfg(windows)-gated, main CI unaffected); adversarially reviewed (no blockers, lockstep with the driver). - new vdisplay/pf_vdisplay.rs: cloned from the proven sudovda.rs, repointed to pf_vdisplay_proto — interface GUID 70667664 (not e5bcc234), IOCTL 0x900-0x905 (not the gappy 0x800/0x888/0x8FF), AddRequest/AddReply/RemoveRequest/SetRenderAdapterRequest (bytemuck Pod, not the GUID-keyed AddParams), a u64 session_id monitor key (not a minted GUID), and a single IOCTL_GET_INFO handshake that HARD-asserts protocol_version (vs SudoVDA two-IOCTL best-effort). Full MGR/linger/refcount/teardown lifecycle preserved. - reuses sudovda.rs backend-neutral CCD/DXGI helpers (set_active_mode, isolate/restore_ displays_ccd, resolve_gdi_name, resolve_render_adapter_luid, MON_GEN/CURRENT_MON_GEN, SavedConfig) — widened to pub(crate), not duplicated. - vdisplay::open()/probe() select the backend: PUNKTFUNK_VDISPLAY=pf|sudovda forces one; default auto-detects (prefer pf-vdisplay if its interface enumerates, else SudoVDA stays the shipping fallback). Notes: SET_RENDER_ADAPTER is tolerated as the driver returns NOT_IMPLEMENTED today (STEP 4 tail); the cross-MGR wait_for_monitor_released only paces sudovda's MGR (benign until IDD-push lands on pf-vdisplay, STEP 6 — documented in-code). On-glass "monitor appears at WxH@Hz" gate is next. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(gamepad): pure-user-mode Windows DualShock 4 + Xbox 360 (drop ViGEm) + installer + multi-pad
Windows virtual gamepads now have zero external dependencies - ViGEmBus is removed. - DualShock 4: Windows UMDF backend (inject/dualshock4_windows.rs + dualshock4_proto.rs), reusing the DualSense SwDeviceCreate game-detection identity fix. The one UMDF driver serves the DS5 or DS4 identity/descriptor/features/strings per a device_type byte the host stamps into shared memory. Driver also gains IOCTL_HID_GET_STRING and a 41-byte calibration feature. - Xbox 360: a new UMDF2 XUSB companion driver (packaging/windows/xusb-driver/) that registers GUID_DEVINTERFACE_XUSB and answers the buffered XInput IOCTLs from a shared section, so classic XInputGetState/SetState work with no kernel bus driver. inject/gamepad_windows.rs is rewritten to drive it and the vigem-client dependency is removed. Xbox One folds to the 360 XInput path. - Installer: vendor + pnputil-install the three UMDF drivers (packaging/windows/gamepad-drivers/ + install-gamepad-drivers.ps1, wired into pack-host-installer.ps1 + punktfunk-host.iss). - Multi-pad: the host stamps each pad index into the device Location (pszDeviceLocation); the driver reads it via WdfDeviceAllocAndQueryProperty to map its own *-shm-<index>, with UmdfHostProcessSharing=ProcessSharingDisabled giving each pad its own host (per-pad statics). Validated live on the Windows host: Cyberpunk native DualSense detection, DS4 identity + descriptor, XInputGetState + rumble round-trip, two pads -> two distinct XInput slots, and a full installer build. feat(windows): AMD (AMF) + Intel (QSV) hardware encode on the Windows host
The Windows host was NVIDIA-only (NVENC) with an openh264 software fallback. Add
AMD AMF and Intel QSV via libavcodec — the Windows analogue of the Linux VAAPI
backend — so one installer serves all three GPU vendors.
- encode/ffmpeg_win.rs: new WinVendor{Amf,Qsv} encoder. System-memory NV12/P010
readback (default, robust) + opt-in zero-copy D3D11 (PUNKTFUNK_ZEROCOPY: shares
the capturer's ID3D11Device; AMF takes AV_PIX_FMT_D3D11, QSV derives a QSV frames
ctx and maps) with a system fallback for the format-group mismatch the capturer's
video-processor fallback can produce. HDR Main10 (P010 + BT.2020/PQ VUI; an
Rgb10a2->P010 swscale covers the shader fallback).
- encode.rs: Codec::amf_name/qsv_name; open_video + windows_resolved_backend()
resolve PUNKTFUNK_ENCODER=auto|nvenc|amf|qsv|sw via a DXGI adapter VendorId probe.
- capture/dxgi.rs: gpu_mode mirrors the resolved backend (D3D11 NV12/P010 for AMF/QSV).
- gamestream/serverinfo.rs: GPU-aware codec advertisement (windows_codec_support;
AV1 gated to RDNA3+/Arc, like the VAAPI path).
- Cargo.toml: amf-qsv feature (optional ffmpeg-next in the windows target block).
- CI/installer: windows-host.yml sets FFMPEG_DIR + builds --features nvenc,amf-qsv;
the Inno installer bundles the FFmpeg DLLs; host.env default nvenc -> auto.
CI-green target; AMF/QSV not yet on-glass validated (no AMD/Intel Windows box in the
lab) — NVENC stays live-validated. An adversarial-review pass caught + fixed real
FFI bugs (AV_PIX_FMT_P010 is a macro -> P010LE; windows-rs 0.62 GetImmediateContext/
GetDesc1 return Result; AV_HWFRAME_MAP_* is a bindgen enum with no BitOr).

feat(gamepad): SwDeviceCreate per-session devnode (best-effort) + windows self-test
DualSenseWindowsManager now SwDeviceCreate's the pf_dualsense devnode per session (SwDeviceClose on drop), matching the Linux UHID pad's lifecycle. It's best-effort: SwDeviceCreate currently hits an unresolved E_INVALIDARG when a completion callback is passed (an underscore in the enumerator name was a second cause, fixed by using "punktfunk"), so on failure the host keeps the section + data plane and falls back to an out-of-band devnode (installer/devgen) — see docs/windows-dualsense-scoping.md. Add a `dualsense-windows-test` host CLI that drives the manager (create devnode + push a frame + hold), used to validate the path. Live on the RTX box: the manager creates the section + pushes report 0x01 and a devnode serves it to a HID read (b1=0xC0, b8=0x28) — the host-side data plane works end to end. cargo check + clippy -D warnings clean on x86_64-pc-windows-msvc. feat(gamepad): virtual DualSense on the Windows host (UMDF shm channel)
Wire the Windows UMDF DualSense driver into the host as a real pad backend, so a client that requests a DualSense gets a genuine one on a Windows host (instead of folding to Xbox 360). - Extract the transport-independent DualSense contract (DsState + from_gamepad, serialize_state, parse_ds_output, DUALSENSE_RDESC, feature blobs, DS_* consts) out of the Linux-only UHID backend into inject/dualsense_proto.rs, shared by both platforms; dualsense.rs is now just the /dev/uhid plumbing. - Add inject/dualsense_windows.rs: DualSenseWindowsManager mirroring the Linux DualSenseManager (same new/handle/apply_rich/pump/heartbeat surface) over a DsWinPad that creates the Global\pfds-shm-<idx> section (CreateFileMappingW + SDDL D:(A;;GA;;;WD) so WUDFHost can open it), writes serialize_state -> input slot, polls output_seq -> parse_ds_output -> rumble/hidout callbacks. - Un-gate the seam: PadBackend::DualSenseWindows arm; pick_gamepad gains a windows flag (DualSense honored on linux||windows; DS4/Xbox One stay Linux-only). Verified: Linux cargo test gamepad_resolution_precedence + clippy clean; Windows cargo check + clippy -D warnings clean (on the RTX box). Device lifecycle still uses an out-of-band devnode (devgen/installer); SwDeviceCreate per session is next. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

refactor(host/zerocopy): dlopen libcuda instead of a link-time #[link]
The host hard-linked libcuda.so.1 on Linux (`#[link(name="cuda")]` in `zerocopy::cuda`), so the binary wouldn't even *start* on a non-NVIDIA box — the dynamic loader can't resolve the NEEDED libcuda. That blocked running the new VAAPI (AMD/Intel) path on a machine without the NVIDIA driver. Resolve the 18 CUDA Driver API symbols at runtime via `libloading` instead. Same-named wrapper fns forward to the dlopen'd table (call sites unchanged); when libcuda is absent they return a non-zero CUresult so `context()` fails cleanly and the capturer falls back to the CPU path. The library handle is leaked (process-lifetime, like the shared context). One Linux binary now runs on NVIDIA (CUDA zero-copy -> NVENC) and on AMD/Intel (VAAPI, no NVIDIA driver). Verified: the NVIDIA dev box still does dmabuf->CUDA zero-copy; on a Radeon 780M box the host builds with no libcuda present, the binary has no NEEDED libcuda entry, and VAAPI encode runs with no stub. refactor(host/windows): clean up DDA path + add a proper Windows service
Final cleanup after the DDA-parity work, plus an end-user service to replace the PsExec/VBS/scheduled-task launch chain. Cleanup (behavior-preserving): - sudovda.rs: drop the dead legacy GDI isolate_displays/restore_displays (CCD is the sole isolation path), the always-empty Monitor.isolated field, and the vestigial reassert_isolation + PUNKTFUNK_ISOLATE_DISPLAYS knob; fix stale comments. - dxgi.rs: downgrade leftover debug warns/infos (DuplicateOutput1 retry, FALLBACKS, hook-hits, AcquireNextFrame idle timeout) to debug!; remove the PUNKTFUNK_NO_CURSOR per-frame test knob. Windows service (src/service.rs, `punktfunk-host service`): - SCM supervisor (windows-service crate) that duplicates its LocalSystem token, retargets it to the active console session, and CreateProcessAsUserW's the host there (Sunshine/Apollo model) — relaunching on exit and console session switch, inside a kill-on-close job object so a service crash never orphans the host. - install/uninstall/start/stop/status subcommands: one elevated `service install` registers an auto-start LocalSystem service + firewall rules + a default host.env. - Config moves to %ProgramData%\punktfunk\host.env; config_dir() now resolves to %ProgramData%\punktfunk on Windows (replacing the APPDATA=C:\Users\Public hack), with a PUNKTFUNK_CONFIG_DIR override. Logs land in %ProgramData%\punktfunk\logs\. - merged_env_block (shared with the WGC helper) now also carries RUST_LOG. - docs/windows-service.md + scripts/windows/host.env.example; windows-host.md updated. feat(host/windows): capture via IDXGIOutput5::DuplicateOutput1 (Apollo's capture API)
The one major capture-API difference left vs Apollo: punktfunk used legacy IDXGIOutput1::DuplicateOutput; Apollo uses IDXGIOutput5::DuplicateOutput1 with a format list, the modern path that's more robust to overlay/format changes (a candidate for the SudoVDA-on-hybrid 0x887A0026 churn). Add a duplicate_output() helper used at all 3 duplication sites (open, reopen_duplication, try_reduplicate): QI to IDXGIOutput5 and DuplicateOutput1, falling back to legacy DuplicateOutput. DuplicateOutput1 requires per-monitor-v2 DPI awareness, so set that at process start alongside the GPU-pref hook (matches Apollo). Format list is BGRA8-only for now (SDR test): DuplicateOutput1 returns the first format it can CONVERT to, so FP16-first would hand back FP16 even on SDR and trip the HDR path. Real FP16/HDR capture (with IDXGIOutput6 colorspace detection) is the follow-up once the churn is settled. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> |
