enricobuehler 4d89dcd3d7 fix(audio/windows): explicit-endpoint capture, client-only playback, self-healing watchdog
Root cause of the field report (Android client, Windows host: no audio until
the user manually cycled Sound-output devices, then audio on BOTH PC and
phone): the WASAPI loopback captured whatever the default render endpoint
was at open time — not the wiring plan's chosen endpoint — the plan's
IPolicyConfig default-set is warn-only and racy, and nothing reacted to
mid-stream default-device changes.

- Explicit-endpoint capture: the capture thread opens the plan's
  loopback_render by id, never "the default" (KEEP_DEFAULT preserves the old
  default-capturing behavior with the echo guard).
- Client-only playback default: wiring_plan::plan(..., host_audio) prefers a
  silent sink (Steam Streaming Microphone render side — loopback-validated,
  silent on host) over real hardware, so stream audio plays on the client
  only; PUNKTFUNK_HOST_AUDIO=1 restores real-hw-first (audible on the host).
  The capture side auto-installs the Steam pair once per process when no
  silent sink exists; open() handshake timeout 3s -> 30s to cover it, and a
  handshake timeout now stops the detached thread (it used to run for the
  process lifetime with the default still parked).
- Self-healing capture thread (wasapi_cap): outer capture_once loop
  (Assert|Follow) with a ~1s watchdog on the default render id. A user
  switch to a capturable endpoint is followed (their choice wins, audio on
  both); a switch to a dud (cable/SSS/mic target) re-asserts the plan;
  IPolicyConfig-denied converges to Follow instead of churning. Device
  errors reopen with 2s backoff; only the FIRST open failure is fatal.
  Zero-packets breadcrumb after 30s distinguishes broken-loopback from
  quiet-desktop.
- Park/restore of the default playback device (audio_control):
  wire_now(set_playback) parks the default on the loopback sink only for the
  capture's lifetime (the mic pump passes false — it runs while the host is
  idle); crash marker audio-default.prev + recover_orphaned_default() at
  first wire; restore is skipped if the operator changed the default
  themselves. A mic-default hygiene pass keeps VB-Cable installs audible and
  never records the mic target as the restore target.
- Session-end park_audio_capture(): Windows DROPS the capturer (thread join
  restores the default) instead of caching it; Linux keeps the parked
  PipeWire thread. Composes with the stream-sink idle() hook at all three
  park sites (idle is a no-op on Windows).

Verified: Linux (.21) clippy -D warnings + 176 punktfunk-host tests green
(incl. the new wiring-plan preference tests); Windows (.173) clippy with
nvenc,amf-qsv --all-targets -D warnings green at this exact tree.
On-glass winbox/Android validation still owed.

enricobuehler 97c5778a36 merge(audio): land feat/linux-stream-sink — Linux host-owned stream sink
Merges 44b71e74 (see its message for the full design: the "Punktfunk Stream
Speaker" Audio/Sink claimed as the session's default output — the crackle
root fix for hardware-sink churn — plus the core-error liveness fix and true
5.1/7.1 capture) across the W1–W8 refactor that landed since the branch
forked:

- punktfunk1.rs was split on main: the audio_thread idle()/drain() hunks are
  hand-ported into native/audio.rs (same three sites: reuse-drain comment,
  encoder-fail park, end-of-thread park).
- pwinit moved to pf-capture (W6.2): the branch's crate::pwinit calls in
  pw_thread and stream_sink.rs become pf_capture::pwinit.
- Kept main's log-tier demotions (stream-state + setup lines at debug)
  inside the restructured pw_thread.

Resolution verified on Linux (home-worker-5): clippy -D warnings clean +
173 punktfunk-host tests green at the 691c064a-based equivalent ba5973a2;
re-verified at this base before landing.

enricobuehler 11045a0f70 chore: consolidate parallel-session WIP (HOLD — do not push)
Local snapshot of intermingled in-flight work, committed to unblock the encode
refactor (a clean ffmpeg_win.rs for the vbv-dedup follow-on). These hunks span
the same files and can't be cleanly split here; the commit bundles three
distinct workstreams that each belong in their own PR:

  - logging rework (~43 files: level re-tiering, structured fields, `?e`,
    hot-path flood latches)
  - conflicting-host detection (detect.rs + detect/{linux,windows}.rs + wiring
    in main.rs/mgmt.rs/Cargo.toml/docs/packaging)
  - standby-sink DWM-stall attribution (windows/display_events.rs + capture/
    vdisplay wiring)

NOT verified as a combination. NOT to be pushed until the refactor is done and
these are re-verified and reorganized into their proper per-workstream PRs.

enricobuehler 44b71e7460 feat(audio/linux): host-owned stream sink decouples capture from hardware-sink churn
The Linux desktop-audio capture stream now registers itself as an Audio/Sink
node ("Punktfunk Stream Speaker", default-on, PUNKTFUNK_STREAM_SINK=0 =
legacy escape hatch) and claims the configured default sink for the duration
of a session (saved and restored around it, refcounted across concurrent
sessions, crash-stale claims degrade to automatic election). Host apps play
directly into the capture stream, so the capture link no longer depends on
any hardware sink.

Root cause this fixes (live-diagnosed on a bazzite/LG-TV host): gamescope
modesets drop the NVIDIA HDMI audio endpoint, WirePlumber ping-pongs the
default sink HDMI<->auto_null ~8x/s, and the old monitor-follower relinked
its capture on every flip - Paused/renegotiate/Streaming storms (~1300 log
lines/min) heard as crackle on the client.

Also fixes a latent liveness bug in both modes: the capture thread had no
core-error listener, so a PipeWire daemon restart mid-session left a zombie
thread returning quiet-sink empty chunks forever (same class as the historic
virtual-mic death bug). Now the thread exits and sessions reopen with backoff.

Bonus: the sink advertises the session's true channel count, so games can
produce real 5.1/7.1 even when local hardware is stereo. New AudioCapturer::
idle() hook releases the routing claim when a capturer is parked between
sessions; drain() re-claims on reuse.

Verified: cargo clippy -D warnings + 295 tests green on Linux (.21).
On-glass validation on the bazzite host pending.

enricobuehler 9afcbcd307 feat(transport): Windows DSCP via qWAVE flows — PUNKTFUNK_DSCP now real on the wire there
Networking-audit deferred plan §4 (the qos.rs follow-up). On Windows
set_tos_v4 succeeds but the stack strips the mark without a qWAVE flow, so
PUNKTFUNK_DSCP=1 was a silent wire no-op there. Now (Apollo/Sunshine's
approach): QOSCreateHandle once per process; QOSAddSocketToFlow per
connected media socket — video → QOSTrafficTypeAudioVideo, audio →
QOSTrafficTypeVoice (QOS_NON_ADAPTIVE_FLOW) — then best-effort
QOSSetFlow(QOSSetOutgoingDSCPValue, 40/48) to pin the exact CS5/CS6 the
other platforms mark. The pin lands for elevated processes (the host runs
as the SYSTEM service — exactly where the video egress is) or under the
"allow non-admin DSCP" policy; otherwise the traffic-type default marking
stands (still WMM-useful). Gating + contract unchanged: opt-in via
dscp_enabled(), every step debug-logs and continues.

set_media_qos now returns an RAII QosFlow guard (QOSRemoveSocketFromFlow on
drop) that must outlive the socket's traffic: stored in UdpTransport
(declared before the socket, so drop order removes the flow first) and held
for the stream's scope by the GameStream video/audio senders — whose
tagging moved after connect(), since qWAVE derives the flow's 5-tuple from
the connected socket (behavior-neutral on Linux). Off-Windows the guard is
inert and never constructed.

Validated: cargo check -p punktfunk-core --target x86_64-pc-windows-msvc
green (the full host can't cross-check from Linux — aws-lc-sys needs MSVC
tooling; it builds on-box via deploy-host.ps1). Remaining on the next
Windows pass per plan: deploy to the RTX box and pktmon/Wireshark the
client side — DSCP ≠ 0 on video egress with PUNKTFUNK_DSCP=1, 0 without.

enricobuehler 7612238a59 feat(audio): end-to-end 5.1/7.1 surround across the native path + all clients
Adds negotiated 5.1/7.1 surround to the punktfunk/1 protocol and every client
(previously stereo-only):

- core: new shared `audio` layout table (LAYOUT_51/71 + identity multistream
  mapping, canonical wire order FL FR FC LFE RL RR SL SR); Hello/Welcome
  `audio_channels` negotiation via the trailing-byte back-compat pattern (old
  peers fall back to stereo); C-ABI `punktfunk_connect_ex6`,
  `punktfunk_connection_audio_channels`, and in-core multistream decode
  `punktfunk_connection_next_audio_pcm` for embedders without a multistream
  Opus decoder. Real-libopus channel-identity round-trip test.
- host: native audio thread captures + Opus-(multi)stream-encodes at the
  negotiated count (with a cross-session cached-capturer channel-mismatch fix);
  GameStream surround unified onto the safe `opus::MSEncoder`, dropping
  `audiopus_sys` (~4 unsafe blocks) and un-gating Windows GameStream surround;
  WASAPI loopback capture relaxed to 2/6/8 with the correct dwChannelMask.
- clients: Linux (PipeWire), Windows (WASAPI), Android (AAudio) decode via
  `opus::MSDecoder` + render multichannel; Apple decodes in-core to PCM →
  AVAudioEngine with an explicit wire-order channel layout; each gains a
  Stereo/5.1/7.1 setting. `punktfunk-probe --audio-channels N` is the headless
  validator.

Verified on Linux: core/host/linux/probe test suites + the Android Rust
(cargo-ndk) build, clippy -D warnings, and rustfmt all green. Windows/Apple
builds, all on-glass checks, and the live native loopback are pending (CI / a
free box).

Also lands the concurrent in-tree HEVC 4:4:4 host work (PUNKTFUNK_444): it
shares the same touched files (quic.rs, punktfunk1.rs, encode/*, ...) and so
cannot be committed separately from the surround changes.

enricobuehler 79c8641c3f docs(host): prove unsafe blocks in the Windows + cross-platform files + gate them (unsafe-proof program 3/N)
Continues the unsafe-proof program across the Windows/cross-platform host files
(~75 blocks, 21 files), each with a SAFETY proof of the real invariant and a
per-file #![deny(clippy::undocumented_unsafe_blocks)] gate:

  capture/windows: dxgi.rs, wgc_relay.rs, wgc.rs, desktop_watch.rs, composed_flip.rs
                   (windows-rs COM: interface validity, same-D3D11-device textures,
                    immediate-context single-thread, borrowed args outlive the call)
  windows: service.rs (SCM/token/CreateProcessAsUserW/event handles — OwnedHandle
           liveness, no double-close/signal race), win_display, wgc_helper, interactive
  vdisplay/windows: manager.rs, pf_vdisplay.rs (SwDeviceCreate/IddCx/ioctl handle
                    liveness via the OnceLock VDM singleton + OwnedHandle)
  encode/windows: ffmpeg_win.rs (full AVBufferRef refcount audit — balanced, NO leaks,
                  unlike the vaapi sibling), sw.rs
  cross-platform: gamestream/audio.rs (libopus), gamestream/stream.rs (sendmmsg),
                  inject/windows/sendinput.rs, audio/windows/wasapi_mic.rs,
                  session_tuning.rs, vdisplay.rs

Two findings (handled separately):
- wgc_relay.rs `unsafe impl Sync for HelperRelay` is UNSOUND (its mpsc Receiver is
  !Sync) though not live-exploited — marked SUSPECT inline; fix pending box check
  (it touches the in-flight punktfunk1.rs).
- capture.rs / encode.rs (PARENT modules of the WIP idd_push.rs / nvenc.rs) do NOT
  get the file deny yet — it would propagate the lint into the undocumented WIP
  children. The deny lands there once those are documented (after the WIP commits).

Linux-visible parts verified green (cargo clippy -p punktfunk-host --all-targets
-- -D warnings). The cfg(windows) deny gates are box-verified next.

enricobuehler 1e0d2e661f feat(host): Apollo-backlog hardening — cert gate, NVENC RFI, media QoS, async injector
A pass over the apollo-comparison backlog (re-verified against current code).
Lands four items end-to-end plus a Windows-DualSense scoping doc.

- #5/#92/#26 — GameStream paired-cert allow-list. tls.rs surfaces the verified
  peer cert to handlers (serve_https + PeerCertFingerprint, now shared with the
  mgmt API instead of duplicated); nvhttp gates /launch /resume /applist /cancel
  on AppState.paired and reports a real PairStatus; save_paired writes atomically
  (temp+rename). Closes the "mTLS accepts any client cert" hole. + regression test.

- #6/#51/#19/#22 — NVENC caps query -> reference-frame invalidation. nvenc.rs
  query_caps probes nvEncGetEncodeCaps (max dims / 10-bit / custom-VBV / RFI),
  rejecting over-range modes and degrading 10-bit->8-bit instead of an opaque
  InvalidParam. New Encoder::invalidate_ref_frames (default false -> caller
  keyframes); the Windows NVENC path implements real RFI (multi-ref DPB +
  nvEncInvalidateRefFrames, dedup + IDR-on-overflow). control.rs decodes the
  0x0301 lost-frame range (Apollo's IDX_INVALIDATE_REF_FRAMES) -> AppState.rfi_range
  -> encode loop, falling back to a keyframe. NOTE: the Windows NVENC impl is
  RTX-box/CI-pending (can't compile on Linux); adversarially reviewed vs the SDK.

- #43/#72 — media socket QoS + buffer growth. New punktfunk_core::transport::qos:
  grow_socket_buffers (factored out the native plane's 32MB SO_SNDBUF growth so the
  GameStream sockets reuse it) + set_media_qos (opt-in PUNKTFUNK_DSCP=1: DSCP CS5
  video / CS6 audio + Linux SO_PRIORITY, Apollo's scheme). Wired into UdpTransport
  and the GameStream video/audio sockets. Windows IP_TOS needs qWAVE (follow-up).

- #8/#45 — GameStream input injection off the ENet service thread. on_receive no
  longer injects inline (a slow inject head-blocked ENet keepalive/retransmit); it
  forwards to a dedicated injector thread. The hardened InjectorService moved from
  punktfunk1 into crate::inject (shared by both planes) + a coalesce step that sums
  adjacent relative-mouse/scroll deltas while preserving button/key/abs ordering.

Docs: re-verified apollo-comparison.md status (22 items already done/obsolete since
the snapshot) + windows-dualsense-scoping.md (ViGEm can't emulate a DualSense; real
DS5 on Windows needs a VHF virtual-HID driver — web-research pass pending).

fmt + clippy -D warnings clean; full workspace test suite green; no C-ABI/OpenAPI drift.

enricobuehler 1b502899d8 feat(host/windows): GameStream (Moonlight) audio on Windows — stereo
`serve` gave Moonlight clients no audio on Windows: the GameStream audio
stream thread was Linux-only (a non-Linux stub errored). Widen the
stereo path to Windows — the encode/RTP/AES-CBC/hand-rolled-RS(4,2)-FEC
logic is platform-neutral and already live-validated byte-identical on
Linux, and it now runs over the WASAPI capturer + the (already
cross-platform) `opus` crate. The cfg gates go from `linux` to
`any(linux, windows)`; only the surround path stays Linux-only because
its libopus *multistream* encoder needs `audiopus_sys` (a Linux dep) —
on Windows a surround request fails cleanly with a "use stereo" error.

Linux stays byte-identical (the `SessionEncoder::Surround` variant and
its match arm keep `#[cfg(linux)]`, so Linux compiles exactly as before).
Verified: clippy -D warnings + host test suite green on both
x86_64-pc-windows-msvc (73/73) and Linux (78/78).

enricobuehler f2a7ef0c29 fix: keep the workspace green on macOS after the mic/touch/rich-input batch
The new features were Linux-built only and broke the documented macOS gate
(cargo build/test/clippy --workspace) four ways, all fixed following the existing
platform-gating conventions:

- m3.rs: mic_service_thread split into the Linux worker and a non-Linux stub that
  drains and drops (sessions still count the datagrams) — opus/PipeWire are
  Linux-gated deps, same pattern as audio_thread.
- punktfunk-client-rs: the new `opus` dependency moved into the Linux target table and
  --mic-test gated with a warn-and-skip stub (only the synthetic-tone test rig needs
  the encoder; the mic uplink itself is portable).
- gamestream/audio.rs: SAMPLE_RATE import gated to any(linux, test) (the frame_sizing
  test uses it everywhere, the data plane only on Linux).
- tests/c_abi.rs: the harness's macOS link flags gained Security + CoreFoundation —
  the quic feature now pulls rustls's platform verifier into the staticlib.

Also: two clippy match-ref-pats lints in the new rich-input/HID-output decoders
(clippy -D warnings is the repo gate), the regenerated punktfunk_core.h committed (the
checked-in copy predated the rich-input/HID-output constants — CI fails on drift), and
web's inlang cache dir gitignored.

cargo build/test/clippy/fmt --workspace: green on macOS, 122 tests passing.

enricobuehler 59b2358b87 fix(punktfunk/1): adversarial-review fixes — SPAKE2 pairing, renegotiation hardening, +more
Triaged the multi-agent review of the renegotiation + pairing + Sway + AV1/surround batch
(1 critical, 11 major/minor confirmed). Fixes:

CRITICAL — PIN pairing was offline-brute-forceable. The HMAC-of-PIN proof let an active
MITM who terminates the TOFU ceremony recover the 4-digit PIN by offline dictionary search
(all other inputs observable) and forge a correctly-bound proof. Replaced with **SPAKE2**
(balanced PAKE, `spake2` crate) + key-confirmation MACs, binding both cert fingerprints as
the SPAKE2 identities: an attacker gets exactly ONE online guess, no offline search, and
mismatched cert views (a real MITM) never reach a shared key. Also reworked the UX to an
"arming PIN" — one PIN per arming window shown at host startup (the SPAKE2 client needs the
PIN to build its first message, so it can't be minted per-connection). Validated live:
wrong PIN rejected in 0.1s, right PIN pairs + persists + the paired identity streams.

Pairing hardening: `--allow-pairing`/`--require-pairing` must arm pairing (default rejects
unsolicited ceremonies); per-host cooldown bounds online guessing; the client flushes its
CONNECTION_CLOSE so a refused ceremony can't wedge the sequential host for the full timeout;
atomic (temp+rename) paired-store writes.

Protocol: control/pairing messages use a distinct CTL_MAGIC (PKFc) — fully disjoint from
the positional Hello namespace (a future abi_version can't be misparsed as a control
message); all typed decodes are length-exact. ABI_VERSION → 2 (punktfunk_connect signature
gained the identity params; header regenerated).

Renegotiation: drain the reconfig channel to the NEWEST mode (one rebuild, not one per
stale step); validate refresh_hz; build the new pipeline BEFORE dropping the old so a
rebuild failure keeps the session on its current mode instead of killing it.

GameStream: packetDuration snaps to {5,10} (an in-between value isn't a legal Opus frame
size and would kill audio). Sway: chooser file moved to $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR (was a fixed
world-writable /tmp path — DoS / capture-misdirection by another local user).

Swift: fixed two compile breakers in the new pairing/identity APIs (Int32 status .rawValue,
UInt cap cast). New SPAKE2 + namespace-disjointness + pairing-roundtrip unit tests; the
in-process pairing test now also exercises the arming PIN + cooldown. 114 tests green,
clippy -D warnings clean (both feature sets), fmt, C-ABI harness.

enricobuehler aa27bbe3e9 feat(gamestream): AV1 negotiation + 5.1/7.1 surround audio
Codec negotiation (M2 polish):
- ServerCodecModeSupport now advertises what we encode: H264|HEVC|AV1_MAIN8
  = 65793 (flags verified against moonlight-common-c Limelight.h). The old
  placeholder 3843 wrongly claimed HEVC Main10 + 4:4:4 and no AV1. Main10
  bits stay off on purpose: Moonlight ties 10-bit to HDR, and capture is
  8-bit SDR BGRx with no HDR metadata path (av1_nvenc -highbitdepth was
  validated working for later).
- RTSP ANNOUNCE: bitStreamFormat 0/1/2 -> H264/HEVC/AV1 (already plumbed to
  av1_nvenc; validated e2e via `m0 --codec av1` + ffprobe av01), and a
  dynamicRangeMode!=0 request now logs + falls back to 8-bit SDR.

Surround audio (M2 polish):
- ANNOUNCE x-nv-audio.surround.{numChannels,AudioQuality} +
  x-nv-aqos.packetDuration -> per-session AudioParams; DESCRIBE advertises
  all six Opus configs (normal before HQ per channel count). Normal-quality
  mappings are pre-rotated for the client's GFE-order LFE swap
  (RtspConnection.c, verified verbatim) so its derived decoder mapping
  equals our encoder mapping — including 7.1, where Sunshine's rotate only
  covers [3,6) and scrambles LFE/SL/SR.
- 5.1/7.1 encode via libopus multistream (audiopus_sys, the sys layer the
  opus crate already links) with Sunshine's layouts/bitrates, RAII wrapper;
  the live-validated stereo wire is byte-identical (plain Opus, no FEC).
- Surround sessions add Sunshine-style RS(4,2) audio FEC (packetType 127 +
  AUDIO_FEC_HEADER, the OpenFEC parity matrix both ends hardcode, nanors
  gemm semantics verified from nanors/rs.c).
- PipeWire capture generalized to the negotiated channel count with explicit
  FL FR FC LFE RL RR [SL SR] positions; missing sink channels are zero-
  filled by the channel-mixer. PwAudioCapturer now tears down cleanly on
  Drop (pipewire channel -> loop quit), so a channel-count change can
  reopen without leaking a capture stream.

Tests: serverinfo mask, RTSP codec/audio param parsing, DESCRIBE contents,
surround-params strings + client-swap round trip, FEC parity self-recovery
and packet layout, real-codec 5.1 channel-identity round trip, and an
ignored live test (ran green against a 6ch null sink monitor).

enricobuehler 8cceb93541 rename: lumen → punktfunk, everywhere
Full project rename, decided 2026-06-10:
- Crates/binaries: punktfunk-core / punktfunk-host / punktfunk-client-rs.
- C ABI: punktfunk_* symbols, Punktfunk* types, include/punktfunk_core.h,
  PUNKTFUNK_FEATURE_QUIC guard (header regenerated; cbindgen renames updated, incl.
  PUNKTFUNK_BTN_*/PUNKTFUNK_AXIS_* wire constants).
- Protocol: punktfunk/1 — control-plane magic LMN1 → PKF1, nonce salt lmn1 → pkf1.
  WIRE BREAK: clients must be rebuilt from this revision.
- Env knobs: PUNKTFUNK_VIDEO_SOURCE / PUNKTFUNK_COMPOSITOR / PUNKTFUNK_ZEROCOPY / ….
- Host config dir: ~/.config/punktfunk (the box's dir was migrated in place — the
  persistent identity is unchanged, pinned fingerprints stay valid).
- Swift package: PunktfunkKit + PunktfunkCore.xcframework + PunktfunkConnection
  (Sources/PunktfunkClient app + tests renamed with it); build-xcframework.sh updated.
- scripts/: 60-punktfunk.rules, punktfunk-host.service; OpenAPI doc regenerated.

Also: scripts/headless/run-headless-kde.sh — full headless Plasma bringup. Root cause of
"desktop but no apps/settings" over the stream: plasmashell launched without
XDG_MENU_PREFIX=plasma-, so the launcher resolved a nonexistent applications.menu and
rendered an empty menu. The script sets the complete KDE session env (menu prefix,
KDE_FULL_SESSION, session version) and rebuilds ksycoca before starting plasmashell.

Gate: 97/97 tests, clippy -D warnings (both feature sets), fmt, C-ABI harness PASS,
zero lumen references left outside .git.
