The Windows AMF encoder hard-rejected any runtime <1.4.36 — a Jan-2025 (Adrenalin 25.1.1) driver floor. Every AMD host on an older driver failed the session with "update the AMD driver" after 8 retries, notably Boot Camp Macs whose bundled amfrt64.dll lags far behind. Split the single pin: - AMF_MIN_VERSION (1.4.34): the ABI floor accepted at load. Every vtable slot the FFI mirrors is a base-interface slot stable since well before 1.4.34; the 1.4.35/1.4.36-only features are string-keyed encoder properties already applied via set_prop(required=false), which log-and-continue — so an older driver degrades those features individually instead of failing. - AMF_HEADER_VERSION (1.4.36): the header the mirror targets, now passed to AMFInit capped at min(header, runtime) so claiming a version newer than the runtime can't make AMFInit reject an otherwise-usable older driver. No functionality removed: a >=1.4.36 runtime behaves exactly as before. Also logs, once per process, the AMF runtime version AND the loaded amfrt64.dll's full path + file-version resource (via GetModuleFileNameW + VerQueryValueW). This surfaces the Boot Camp failure mode where the display driver reads 25.x but the System32 amfrt64.dll is a stale build reporting an old AMF version; the too-old decline now names the DLL path/build and points at reboot + DDU reinstall. Not compile-verified: amf.rs is Windows-only and this Linux box can't cross-build it (a dependency's C build fails for the msvc target). Needs cargo check/clippy on the Windows build box / CI. rustfmt-clean; the windows-crate FFI signatures were verified against the on-disk 0.62.2 bindings. 2026-07-12 review of the host encoders / client decoders / RFI plane. NVENC (both), AMF-LTR, the session glue, and the client RfiTracker came out clean; every fix lands in the Vulkan Video backend + dispatch: 1. HEVC: author each P-frame's short-term RPS to retain ALL resident DPB pictures (minus the setup slot), not just its one reference. HEVC 8.3.2 evicts unlisted pictures, and clients keep FEEDING the decoder while frozen — so with the old single-pic RPS, a conforming parser (FFmpeg = the Linux VAAPI/Vulkan and Windows D3D11VA clients) had already discarded the picture an RFI recovery anchor references whenever a fed post-loss frame preceded it: generate_missing_ref, and the "clean" anchor plus everything chained after it decodes as garbage. Pure builder (`build_h265_rps_s0`) + unit tests; AV1 needs nothing (slot-based retention). The smoke test now encodes a fed post-loss frame between loss@4 and anchor@6 so an ffmpeg decode of the dropped dump exercises exactly this (expect ONE POC-4 complaint, never POC 3) — revalidate on the AMD box; this NVIDIA dev box fails the backend earlier at HEVC header retrieval (pre-existing). 2. AV1: chain PhysicalDeviceVideoEncodeAV1FeaturesKHR (videoEncodeAV1 = TRUE, stype 1000513004) into device creation — spec-required for the ENCODE_AV1 codec op; RADV tolerated the omission, validation layers and stricter drivers do not. 3. RFI decline no longer self-arms force_kf — that bypassed the session glue's 750 ms IDR cooldown, turning a storm of hopeless RFI requests into one full IDR each. Decline like NVENC/AMF and let the caller's coalesced keyframe path own the fallback; add the missing first>last guard for parity. 4. open_video_backend now returns the label of the branch that ACTUALLY opened, so the mgmt API / web console reports "vulkan" instead of "vaapi" for the default-on Vulkan sessions (the old dispatch-mirror resolved_backend_label went stale when the backend gained its VAAPI fallback; deleted). Structure: the ~230-line inline HEVC coding block moves to record_coding_h265 (symmetric with record_coding_av1) and the duplicated pre-encode barriers dedupe into begin_encode_cmd. Follow-up plan (separate, punktfunk-planning): bring the post-loss freeze + RECOVERY_ANCHOR/POINT lift to the Android/Windows/Apple clients via a shared ReanchorGate (design/client-reanchor-freeze-parity.md). Extend the raw Vulkan Video backend to AV1 (`VK_KHR_video_encode_av1`) alongside HEVC, so AMD/Intel Linux hosts get the same clean-P-frame loss recovery for AV1 that HEVC already has — no full IDR on packet loss. ash 0.38.0+1.3.281 predates the AV1-encode extension (finalized in Vulkan 1.3.290) and bumping ash breaks the SDL/Vulkan client (it drops the lifetime on AllocationCallbacks, which sdl3-sys still generates). So the AV1-encode structs/flags/enums are vendored host-only in `encode/linux/vk_av1_encode.rs`, copied verbatim from ash-master's generated code and chained into ash's generic video-encode calls via raw p_next — the common StdVideoAV1* types (from AV1 decode) are reused from ash 1.3.281. `vulkan_video.rs` gains a parallel AV1 path: AV1 Main profile/caps/session (+ max-level session-create), a bit-packed sequence-header OBU + per-frame temporal-delimiter framing (Vulkan AV1 encode, unlike H26x, emits only the frame OBU), and per-frame StdVideoEncodeAV1PictureInfo with the RFI reference model — a normal P inherits CDF context from its reference for compression, while an IDR or recovery anchor sets primary_ref_frame=NONE + error_resilient_mode so it decodes independent of the (possibly lost) frames since its reference. HEVC recording is unchanged; the shared CSC / ring / DPB-barrier pipeline is reused as-is. Codec routing in `open_video_backend` extends the HEVC arm to HEVC|AV1. The seq header enables only order-hint (+128px superblocks per caps), matching FFmpeg's proven Vulkan AV1 config — enabling CDEF/restoration made VCN emit frame-header sections our seq header didn't match, desyncing every inter frame. Headless-validated on real RADV (780M): open + 6-frame encode (I P P P P P) decodes 0-error on both dav1d and ffmpeg/cbs; the RFI recovery anchor at frame 4 is a clean P (not IDR), and dropping the "lost" frame 3 still decodes clean (re-anchored to frame 2). On-glass validated 2026-07-12 on an AMD RADV 780M with a real Deck-class client: the pipelined raw-Vulkan HEVC encoder ran a rock-solid 1080p@240 session and healed loss with clean P-frame recovery anchors (real RFI the libav VAAPI path can't express). Ship it on by default, mirroring the NVENC default-on. - vulkan_encode_enabled() defaults ON; PUNKTFUNK_VULKAN_ENCODE=0 is the libav VAAPI escape hatch. A failed open still falls back to VAAPI, so a device without h265 Vulkan encode (or an untested Intel/ANV that misbehaves at open) degrades gracefully instead of breaking the stream. - Ring depth defaults to 2 (one frame of overlap, lowest added latency — the on-glass-validated real-time setting); PUNKTFUNK_VULKAN_INFLIGHT still tunes it. - Compile --features punktfunk-host/vulkan-encode into the arch/deb/rpm host builds (pure-Rust ash, no new lib / no link-time dep), alongside nvenc. perf(encode): pipeline the Vulkan Video encoder (frames in flight)
The Linux raw-Vulkan HEVC backend blocked on two GPU fences per frame, so CPU readback and the next capture could not overlap the GPU encode. Refactor into a small ring of per-in-flight-frame resources (own command buffers, CSC descriptor set + Y/UV/NV12 scratch, bitstream buffer, feedback query and sync objects) so submit() records into a free slot and returns without waiting, and poll() reads back the oldest slot once its fence signals. The pump's non-blocking poll then overlaps a frame's CSC+encode with the next capture — the throughput win — with no capturer/pump change (VAAPI untouched). - New `Frame` struct + `make_frame`; encoder holds `frames`/`ring`/`in_flight`. - `record_submit` (non-blocking) + `read_slot` (fence-gated readback) replace the synchronous `encode_frame`; `enqueue` applies backpressure by draining the oldest slot when the ring is full. - DPB self-barrier between consecutive encodes: orders frame N's reconstruct write before N+1's reference read now that they can be in flight together. - flush() drains all in-flight slots in order; reset() waits idle + discards. - Ring depth defaults to 3, overridable via PUNKTFUNK_VULKAN_INFLIGHT (2..=6). - Smoke test drains via poll-loop + flush (async breaks one-AU-per-submit). Headless-validated on real RADV 780M: cargo check (feature on/off) + clippy -D warnings + rustfmt clean; smoke test at ring depth 2/3/6 all ffmpeg-decode clean (I P P P P P) and drop-heal (I P P P P) with 0 errors. fix+perf(encode): clamp Vulkan CSC to source edge + cache dmabuf imports
Two refinements after the initial on-glass validation on RADV (780M): - Green padding bar at non-16-aligned heights (e.g. 1080 → coded 1088): the CSC compute shader read past the edge of the shorter source dmabuf for the 8 alignment-padding rows, producing undefined/green garbage that showed on a client rendering the coded frame. Clamp every source fetch to `textureSize-1` so padding rows duplicate the last real row (invisible, and the SPS conformance window still crops it for a compliant decoder). BT.709 conversion is byte-identical for in-bounds pixels. 5120x1440 (exactly aligned) was never affected. - Per-frame dmabuf import churn: the backend created + imported + destroyed a VkImage every frame (allocation jitter → stutter). PipeWire cycles a small fixed pool, so import each underlying buffer ONCE (keyed by st_dev/st_ino — each frame's fd is a fresh dup of the same buffer) and reuse it, matching the CUDA-path VkBridge. First import acquires from the foreign producer; cached re-reads keep queue ownership and use a plain visibility barrier. On-glass: ~3-6 imports per session then silent (was ~one per frame at 240 Hz), stutter gone at resolutions with headroom. Also adds a PF_SMOKE_W/H override to the headless smoke test to exercise the conformance-window crop path (ffprobe confirms coded 1088 → displayed 1080). feat(encode): raw Vulkan Video HEVC backend on Linux (AMD/Intel) with real RFI
Add `VulkanVideoEncoder` (`VK_KHR_video_encode_h265` via ash) — the open-stack twin of the direct-NVENC RFI path, giving AMD/Intel Linux hosts real reference-frame invalidation loss recovery: a clean P-frame recovery anchor that re-references a known-good older frame instead of a full IDR. The app owns the DPB, so recovery = pointing the P-frame's single L0 reference at a resident slot strictly older than the loss (never a concealed frame). The backend owns its own ash instance/device with encode + compute queues, authors VPS/SPS/PPS (Main, conformance-window crop for non-16-aligned heights like 1080->1088), runs a DPB-ring reference-slot state machine with monotonic POC and CBR rate control, and does an on-GPU RGB->NV12 BT.709 compute CSC (embedded rgb2yuv.spv) since capture delivers packed-RGB dmabufs — importing each frame's dmabuf (explicit DRM modifier) or uploading a CPU-RGB fallback, CSC on the compute queue, then encode on the encode queue, ordered by a semaphore. Wired into `open_video_backend`: an AMD/Intel HEVC session opens this instead of libav VAAPI when `PUNKTFUNK_VULKAN_ENCODE=1` (VAAPI fallback on any open error, so it can only improve recovery, never break a stream); `PUNKTFUNK_ ENCODER=vulkan` forces it. Gated behind the new `vulkan-encode` Cargo feature, which pulls no new dependency (reuses the `ash` bindings already carried for the dmabuf zero-copy bridge). Opt-in until on-glass validated, mirroring how the direct-NVENC path shipped. Headless-validated on real RADV (RDNA3 780M, Mesa 26): open + multi-frame encode + `invalidate_ref_frames` all run through the real struct and ffmpeg decodes the output `I P P P P P` with 0 errors; the recovery frame is a clean P-frame (not an IDR); and dropping the "lost" AU still decodes cleanly because the recovery re-anchored to an older frame — the RFI heal, proven on real hardware. `cargo check`/`clippy -D warnings` green with the feature on and off. Phase 5.2 of design/encoder-recovery-hardening.md (design/linux-direct-nvenc.md). The Linux NVIDIA host encodes through libavcodec `hevc_nvenc`, which structurally cannot express `nvEncInvalidateRefFrames` — so every FEC-unrecoverable loss is a full IDR and, since the client freezes-until-reanchor, a per-loss freeze for RTT+IDR-encode. This ports the Windows raw-NVENC backend to NV_ENC_DEVICE_TYPE_CUDA over the shared CUcontext so Linux NVIDIA gets the same real RFI + F2 recovery-anchor + reset() stall lever + HDR-SEI/Main10 plumbing. New `encode/linux/nvenc_cuda.rs` (`NvencCudaEncoder`): - runtime-loaded entry table via `dlopen libnvidia-encode.so.1` (never link-time, mirroring the zerocopy::cuda libcuda loader) — one binary still starts on AMD/Intel Linux boxes and falls through to VAAPI/software; - session on the shared CUcontext (zerocopy::cuda::context()); - an encoder-owned ring of registered CUDADEVICEPTR input surfaces (zerocopy::cuda::InputSurface + a contiguous-NV12 allocator), each captured DeviceBuffer device→device copied in via the existing copy_* helpers — mirrors the libav recycled-hwframe-pool copy, so zero regression vs today; - config/RFI/anchor/reset ported from the Windows backend; sync-only (NVENC async is Windows-only, so that whole subsystem is dropped); - Main10/HDR-SEI wired but inert until a Linux P010 capture path (Phase 5.1). Wired behind PUNKTFUNK_NVENC_DIRECT (default OFF) in open_nvenc_probed; the Windows path is untouched (no shared extraction in v1). Two on-hardware `#[ignore]` smokes added. Validated on .21 (RTX 5070 Ti, driver 610.43.03): builds on Linux under ci-check, clippy-clean, full host suite 272/0, NV12 smoke (8 AUs, real invalidate_ref_frames + recovery_anchor on a P-frame) and YUV444 FREXT smoke (6 AUs, chroma_444) green; Windows compile unaffected. Phases 1–4 of design/encoder-recovery-hardening.md — make the shipped RFI/ freeze-until-reanchor recovery honest and rebuild-safe across every backend. F1 — frame-index domain desync: the encode loop now owns a session-lifetime `au_seq`; `Encoder::submit_indexed(au_seq + inflight)` pins NVENC inputTimeStamp and AMF LTR slots to the WIRE frame index, so `invalidate_ref_frames` compares client frame numbers in the same domain and survives adaptive-bitrate rebuilds (an internal counter desynced on the first rebuild → RFI silently dead / an AMF force-ref onto a never-decoded frame). `FrameMsg.frame_index` → `Session::seal_frame_at`; GameStream gets the same via `VideoPacketizer:: packetize(.., Some(idx))`. F2 — Windows NVENC left the client frozen ~1s per loss: NVENC RFI was transparent (no anchor tag) while the session glue armed the 750ms IDR cooldown, so the freeze only lifted on the ~1s keyframe re-ask. NVENC now mirrors AMF — `pending_anchor` tags the first post-invalidate AU (the clean re-anchor P-frame) `recovery_anchor`, incl. the covering-range dedupe re-arm; the client lifts at ~RTT. F3 — speed-test probe filler burned video frame indexes: moved to its own index space (`Packetizer::alloc_probe_index` + `Session::submit_probe_frame`) with a second client reassembly window routed on FLAG_PROBE, gated on the new VIDEO_CAP_PROBE_SEQ Hello bit (mid-session probes declined for older clients). F4 — RFI range sanity cap: forward gaps wider than `packet::RFI_MAX_RANGE` (256) resync via keyframe instead of an out-of-range RFI, host- and client-side (client huge-gap → keyframe in `RfiRecovery::observe` + the pf-client-core pump). F5 — reset() parity: Windows NVENC (teardown + lazy re-init), Linux VAAPI (drop-inner), Linux NVENC (reopen from stored OpenArgs) now give the stall watchdog a heal lever instead of ending the session. F6 — sw.rs `pending: VecDeque` (was `Option`), killing the silent AU drop at capturer pipeline depth > 1. F7 — doc sweep on the RFI/anchor comments. Verified: punktfunk-core lib tests (macOS + Linux), full punktfunk-host suite on Linux (RTX 5070 Ti), Windows compile. The `cargo fmt --check` step on the x86_64-pc-windows-msvc job was failing: the mid-stream loss-recovery and resize-overlay commits landed with unformatted wraps across pf-presenter, pf-client-core, punktfunk-core, pf-console-ui, and a few host files. Applied `cargo fmt`, and hand-relocated two trailing comments in session.rs (a decoded-frame note and the wrap-counter note) to their own lines so rustfmt no longer column-aligns the following comment block to a deep indent. Removes the "gray frames with motion" artifact on Vulkan-Video clients and lets AMD/NVENC hosts re-anchor after loss WITHOUT a 20-40x IDR spike. Client (pf-client-core): after a reference loss the hardware decoder conceals the missing-reference deltas (on RADV, a gray plate with new motion painted over) and returns Ok. The pump now freezes on the last good picture until a clean re-anchor instead of showing the concealment — lifting on a real IDR, an intra-refresh recovery mark (2nd wave boundary), or an LTR-RFI recovery anchor (1st). The frame_index gap is the early, precise loss signal and drives an RFI request. Host recovery signals (inert unless the backend supports them): - USER_FLAG_RECOVERY_POINT — intra-refresh wave boundary (NVENC constrained GDR). - USER_FLAG_RECOVERY_ANCHOR — AMD LTR reference-frame-invalidation recovery frame. AMD LTR-RFI (encode/windows/amf.rs) — the AMD twin of NVENC RFI. AMF's AVC/HEVC API has no constrained-intra property (intra-refresh cannot heal; PSNR-proven), so the only clean-recovery lever is user LTR: mark frames as long-term references, and on loss force the next frame to re-reference the newest known-good one — a clean P-frame, not an IDR. Two rotating LTR slots, ~0.5s mark cadence, on by default for AVC/HEVC (PUNKTFUNK_NO_AMF_LTR disables). invalidate_ref_frames picks the newest LTR before the loss; a range older than the live slots falls back to a keyframe. Protocol (punktfunk-core): RfiRequest control message + NativeClient::request_rfi(). Host: RfiRequest dispatch -> invalidate_ref_frames (IDR fallback); an RFI success anchors the keyframe cooldown so the client's frames_dropped echo of the same loss is coalesced away rather than emitting a redundant IDR. Spike: synthetic NV12 GPU source for headless AMF encoder testing. Validated: core rfi_request_roundtrip; pf-client-core 31 unit tests (incl. an_rfi_anchor_lifts_immediately); punktfunk-host builds + 271 tests on Linux; punktfunk-host builds clean on Windows; real AMD iGPU spike (invalidate at frame 90 forced re-reference to LTR frame 60 — 180 frames, keyframes=1, no recovery IDR). feat(linux): zero-copy 4:4:4 — the EGL worker converts to planar YUV444 on the GPU
A 4:4:4 session no longer falls to the CPU path (SHM capture + swscale RGB→YUV444P + re-upload — the fps-ceiling triple tax). The zero-copy worker grows a Yuv444Blit: three full-res R8 GL passes (the proven BT.709 coefficients; studio or full range per PUNKTFUNK_444_FULLRANGE, read by both processes so pixels and VUI flip together) into ONE stacked 3-plane pitched CUDA allocation — which keeps the worker↔host wire and IPC single-plane. The encoder copies the planes into ffmpeg's yuv444p CUDA surface and hevc_nvenc emits Range-Extensions 4:4:4 natively. ImportKind::Tiled444 is APPENDED to the worker protocol (a worker outliving a replaced host binary must keep the old tags stable; an old worker just errors the import, which the fail machinery already handles). A 4:4:4 session on a LINEAR/gamescope capture — no convert wired there — fails with a clear message instead of letting hevc_nvenc silently subsample. caps().chroma_444 now keys off the session (it missed the GPU path when keyed off the swscale's existence). Live-verified on the CachyOS VM (RTX 5070 Ti): per-frame "imported to CUDA yuv444=true", stream Rext/yuv444p/bt709 in both tv and pc range, no CPU-path warning. fix(video): honor the signaled CSC matrix end-to-end + tvOS HDR presentation
Clients derive Y'CbCr->RGB from the stream's SIGNALED matrix x range x depth via shared csc rows (Rust csc_rows + Swift CscRows) instead of hardcoded 709/2020 - a BT.601-signaled stream (a Linux host's RGB-input NVENC) no longer renders with a constant hue error. Host-side signaling made honest across NVENC/VAAPI/openh264/GameStream and the session plan's chroma/bit-depth. Decoded color-bar fixtures (601/709 x limited/full) pin the math in tests on both cores. Same presenter, tvOS HDR: tvOS has no Metal EDR API and a bare PQ colorspace tag composites UNTONE-MAPPED (the "overblown" Apple TV report), so HDR now splits on the display's live EDR headroom - PQ passthrough when the per-session AVDisplayManager mode switch landed (a real HDR10 output tone-maps itself), else an in-shader PQ->SDR tone-map (203-nit reference white, extended-Reinhard 1000-nit knee, 2020->709) into the proven SDR layer config. fix(host): NVENC AV1 sessions actually open — stop stamping HEVC config onto the AV1 union
Every AV1 session died at initialize_encoder with NV_ENC_ERR_INVALID_PARAM
("rejected even at the floor bitrate") while negotiation and the session plan
looked healthy. Live-bisected on the RTX 4090 box against a 10-bit macOS AV1
session; three independent poisons, all HEVC-isms applied across the codec
union:
- Unconditional `hevcConfig.tier = 1`: NVENC's AV1 encoder is Main-tier only,
and the same write scribbled HEVC offsets into h264Config too. Tier/level
are now per-codec; AV1 deliberately writes NEITHER — its preset defaults are
the only accepted values, and `level = 0` is NOT autoselect on AV1 (that's
Level 2.0 in the AV1 enum — it pins the stream to the smallest level and
rejects any real mode). Explicit `idrPeriod = INFINITE` is likewise rejected;
with PTD enabled the driver follows the infinite gopLength, matching the
proven HEVC pattern of never touching idrPeriod.
- The 10-bit branch was gated on bit depth only, never codec: it stamped
NV_ENC_HEVC_PROFILE_MAIN10_GUID + hevcConfig bitfields onto AV1 (the killer
for HDR/10-bit clients). AV1's Main profile covers 10-bit natively; it now
sets output/input depth on its own config.
- The split-encode fallback only retried FORCED modes, so an AUTO-mode
rejection masqueraded as a bitrate cap and failed the whole clamp search.
Any non-disabled mode now retries once with split disabled. (Also corrects
the split-mode log legend: NV_ENC_SPLIT_DISABLE_MODE is 15, not 0.)
The AV1 RFI DPB write (maxNumRefFramesInDPB = 5) survives the bisect and
stays. Verified end to end: 10-bit AV1, macOS client → RTX 4090 host.

fix(host): AMF encoder reconnect reliability on Windows AMD
A second connection to a Windows AMD host came up black with nothing in the logs. The native AMF encoder's teardown never Flushed before Terminate, so a reconnect whose teardown overlapped the new session (a client may not signal an explicit exit, so session 1 tears down late — on the reconnect preempt grace or the QUIC idle timeout) left AMD's limited VCN encode-session slot occupied. The new session's Init then opened onto a wedged session that returns AMF_OK but never emits an AU. NVENC has no equivalent per-session cap, so NVIDIA never showed it. Recovery couldn't help either: the stall watchdog re-Init'd the SAME context, which can't clear a context/VCN-level fault, so it looped a dead context until MAX_ENCODER_RESETS ended the session. Reliability: - Component::drop now Flushes before Terminate (mirrors reset() and the design doc), releasing the VCN session cleanly so the next session's Init gets a free slot. - reset() escalates to a FULL context teardown once an in-place re-Init has run without producing an AU (resets_without_output >= 2), so a wedged reconnect self-heals via a fresh CreateContext+InitDX11 within the reset budget instead of re-initing a dead context in a loop. Logging (the failure was silent): - Per-context bring-up sequence number (context #N) — distinguishes a first connection from a reconnect's fresh context. - A one-shot "AMF produced its first AU on this context" line; its absence after a context #N bring-up is the smoking gun for a silent VCN wedge. - Terminate result logged on drop for both the component and the context. Direct-SDK AMF encoder (encode/windows/amf.rs), the AMD analogue of the direct-NVENC path, replacing the libavcodec *_amf dispatch. C-vtable FFI pinned to AMF headers v1.4.36, runtime-loaded from the driver's amfrt64.dll (no build feature, no new dependency) exactly as NVENC loads its DLL. - AVC/HEVC (SDR NV12 + 10-bit HDR P010) and AV1 (RDNA3+, probed); a bounded poll retires the libavcodec ~2-frame output hold; native in-place reset(). - Intra-refresh wave (PUNKTFUNK_INTRA_REFRESH), in-band HDR mastering/CLL metadata (*InHDRMetadata -> HEVC SEI / AV1 OBU), and a native codec probe feeding the GameStream advertisement (windows_backend_is_ffmpeg -> windows_backend_is_probed). - AMD dispatch / advertisement / 4:4:4 are native-only; the libavcodec AMF fallback and the PUNKTFUNK_AMF_FFMPEG hatch are removed. FFmpeg serves QSV only (its AMF path retained solely as the latency A/B comparator). - Overload back-pressure: submit bounds in-flight surfaces below the input ring, draining finished AUs (buffered for poll, FIFO-preserved) to free a slot and retry on AMF_INPUT_FULL instead of tearing the encoder down and forcing an IDR; this also closes a latent ring-overwrite corruption seen under load on-glass. Validated on the lab Ryzen iGPU (AMF runtime 1.4.37): HEVC/AVC across a native reset, HEVC Main10 mastering+CLL SEIs byte-verified, intra-refresh accepted, a backpressure burst FIFO-clean, and end-to-end via the macOS client. Measured §5.2 latency A/B: native encode_us p50 ~5 ms (0.31 frame periods) vs libavcodec ~17 ms (1.01). 4:4:4 stays unsupported (VCN hardware limit). Live-gated tests skip cleanly on non-AMD boxes. fix(host): encode-stall watchdog — heal the silent AMF/QSV freeze in place
Field reports: Windows AMD/Intel streams freeze after ~3-5 min regardless of desktop activity. Root cause: the libavcodec AMF/QSV poll is non-blocking (EAGAIN -> Ok(None)), and the encode loop's drain treated None as benign without popping `inflight` — a wedged driver (QueryOutput stops producing) meant frames kept being submitted, inflight grew unboundedly, no AU ever reached the send thread, and nothing logged: a silent permanent freeze. The input-side twin: once libavcodec's one-frame buffer fills, avcodec_send_frame EAGAINs and the submit `?` killed the whole session. Add `Encoder::reset()` (in-place encoder rebuild; implemented for AMF/QSV by dropping the wedged libavcodec encoder so the next submit re-opens it on the current device, forced IDR) and an encode-stall watchdog in the stream loop: trip on a poll error, on no AU within max(2 s, 8 frame intervals) while frames are owed, or on an owed backlog worth more than the window's frames (the slow-leak latency-runaway form). Recovery is a bounded (5 consecutive, cleared by any delivered AU) in-place rebuild + forced IDR — a logged ~one-second hiccup instead of a dead stream; exhaustion or a reset-less backend still fails the session with a clear error. Submit failures route through the same bounded recovery. The three existing pipeline-rebuild paths (session switch, mode switch, capture loss) now also clear the stale in-flight records that pointed at the dropped encoder. Backends whose poll blocks (direct NVENC sync, software) can't false-trip: they never return Ok(None) mid-stream and drain inflight below depth each tick. Validated: clippy -D warnings (nvenc,amf-qsv), 191 host tests, synthetic E2E 300/300 frames, and an on-glass AMD iGPU session (1080p120 HDR hevc_amf). perf(encode/windows): AMF quality=speed + bf=0; drop the useless poll spin
On-box A/B on the .173 Ryzen 7000 iGPU (720p60, real composition via input injection — an idle virtual desktop composes ~1 fps and gives meaningless encode timings): the encode-time-first `quality=speed` preset + explicit `bf=0` cut host-side encode_us from ~36 ms to ~19.5 ms. The blocking-poll idea from the prior commit was WRONG and is reverted to a single non-blocking receive (default PUNKTFUNK_FFWIN_POLL_MS=0): libavcodec's hevc_amf holds ~2 frames before releasing the oldest (needs frame N+2 to flush N), so a spin between submits provably never yields the owed AU — verified with a 150 ms cap pegging at exactly 150 ms across every usage preset and pipeline depth. That ~2-frame buffer is inherent to the libavcodec wrapper, not host scheduling; the real latency lever is a direct AMF SDK encoder (the AMF analogue of the direct-NVENC path), tracked as the next AMD work item. The env knob is retained for a future VCN/driver where a bounded spin can help. Also measured and rejected: PUNKTFUNK_ZEROCOPY=1 on AMF is ~2x WORSE (68 ms vs 36 ms) — the D3D11 import path adds sync overhead beyond the readback it saves, so the system-memory default stays. The session loop's pipeline deferral was designed around direct NVENC, whose poll() BLOCKS in lock_bitstream; libavcodec's AMF wrapper is truly async (EAGAIN until the ASIC finishes), so a single non-blocking receive quantized AU retrieval to the submit cadence: +1–2 frame periods flat (~43 ms p50 at 720p60 on the Ryzen iGPU vs ~3.5 ms of actual encode). FfmpegWinEncoder now tracks in-flight frames and, while an AU is owed, spin-polls with short sleeps bounded to ~2 frame periods (an overloaded encoder degrades to next-tick pickup instead of stalling capture). The nvenc build linked nvEncodeAPI64.dll's entry points at load time, so a --features nvenc binary hard-crashed on any box without the NVIDIA driver (AMD/Intel). Entry points now come from a runtime LoadLibrary table (encode/windows/nvenc.rs load_api); a missing DLL just falls through the encoder auto-detect to AMF/QSV/software. The generated import lib and all its plumbing (gen-nvenc-importlib.ps1, nvenc.def, PUNKTFUNK_NVENC_LIB_DIR, setup-build-env wiring) are gone. The gpu-contention plan's §5.B lever: today submit and the blocking lock_bitstream share one thread, so under a GPU-saturating game the pipeline serializes on the WDDM scheduling wait (1000/17ms ≈ 59fps — the depth-1 collapse; the old 'deeper pipeline just stacks latency' result was a same-thread implementation, not a disproof). Async mode opens the session enableEncodeAsync=1, registers an auto-reset completion event per pool bitstream, and moves the wait+lock+copy+ unlock onto an internal retrieve thread feeding poll() through a channel — the exact split the NVENC guide mandates. Register/map/unmap stay on the encode thread; teardown drops the job channel, joins the thread, THEN destroys the session. In-flight depth is bounded by PUNKTFUNK_NVENC_ASYNC_DEPTH (default 4, hard cap POOL-1) — both for output-buffer reuse and because NVENC encodes the capture ring's textures in place. Idle latency cost ≈ 0 (same-tick pickup); under contention completed frames queue instead of stalling capture. Chasing the 8ms submit at 1440p on the 780M: the sampled PUNKTFUNK_PERF split (push/pull/send) shows desc+buffersrc at ~5us, hwmap-import+VPP CSC at ~0.2-0.5ms, and avcodec_send_frame owning the rest — so neither a VA-surface import cache nor CSC overlap would help. Two facts landed: (1) async_depth>=2 in libavcodec's vaapi_encode is a structural +1-frame latency (frame N's packet only materializes when N+1 queues; measured 18ms vs 8.3ms p50 at depth 1) — depth 1 stays the default, PUNKTFUNK_VAAPI_ASYNC_DEPTH exists for pixel rates beyond the ASIC's serial budget, and poll() now does a bounded in-flight wait so a deeper depth still ships the AU as soon as the ASIC finishes. (2) The residual send_frame block tracks GPU CLOCKS, not the ASIC: ~8ms/frame at a 60fps duty cycle vs ~4.4ms at 120fps pacing vs 3.5ms back-to-back (270fps CLI benchmark, even at -async_depth 1) — the clock-sag fix lands in gpuclocks. Intra-refresh (opt-in PUNKTFUNK_INTRA_REFRESH=1 until on-glass validated): NVENC runs a moving intra band + recovery-point SEI (gop_size becomes the wave period, ffmpeg forces the real GOP infinite; default fps/2, PUNKTFUNK_IR_PERIOD_FRAMES overrides; ENOSYS latches a fallback to IDR-only). Clients request a keyframe on every FEC-unrecoverable frame, so under intra-refresh the session glue serves the first request instantly and suppresses the rest for a 2s window — the wave heals loss without the 20-40x IDR spike cascade. VAAPI/software keep IDR recovery. Instrumentation: the wire pts now anchors at the PipeWire delivery stamp (client-measured latency covers delivery + queue age, not just submit->glass; repeats/synthetic stamps fall back to now), encode_us keeps its submit->AU meaning via a separate inflight stamp, and a new 'queue' stage (delivery->submit age of fresh frames) rides PUNKTFUNK_PERF and the web-console stats samples. Phase 1 of codec negotiation, and the Linux software H.264 encode path it unblocks. **Codec negotiation (core `quic`):** - `Hello.video_codecs` (bitfield: CODEC_H264/HEVC/AV1) — the client advertises what it can decode; appended as a trailing byte (older client → 0 = HEVC-only, back-compat). - `Welcome.codec` — the single codec the host resolved and will emit; trailing byte (older host → HEVC). - `resolve_codec(client, host_capable)` picks the shared codec (precedence HEVC > AV1 > H.264) or `None` → the host refuses honestly rather than sending an undecodable stream. - Roundtrip + back-compat tests; cbindgen exports the CODEC_* constants. **Software encoder (host):** - The openh264 `OpenH264Encoder` (was Windows-only) is now built on Linux too — it's platform-agnostic (consumes CPU RGB `CapturedFrame`s, statically-bundled openh264). `openh264` moved to the shared linux+windows Cargo target. - `PUNKTFUNK_ENCODER=software` selects it: `open_video` gains a `software` branch (H.264 only), and `session_plan::resolve_encoder` / `capture::gpu_encode` resolve `EncoderBackend::Software` → `output_format().gpu = false`, so the portal capturer delivers CPU RGB. A software host + HEVC-only client is refused with a clear error. - 4:4:4 is gated on HEVC (it's HEVC-only). **Probe:** advertises H264|HEVC|AV1 and logs the resolved codec. Validated on the GPU-less dev box: negotiation is live end-to-end (probe advertises 0x07 → host resolves H.264 → Welcome reports it → plan = Software/H264), and the openh264 unit test (CPU RGB → AnnexB IDR) now runs on Linux. Full capture→encode still needs a GPU on this box — every compositor screencast path (KWin GL, gamescope VK_EXT_physical_device_drm, wlroots EGL) requires one; software render (llvmpipe/pixman) can't be captured — so this box exercises negotiation + encoder, not live capture. Real-libopus channel-identity round-trip test. - host: native audio thread captures + Opus-(multi)stream-encodes at the negotiated count (with a cross-session cached-capturer channel-mismatch fix); GameStream surround unified onto the safe `opus::MSEncoder`, dropping `audiopus_sys` (~4 unsafe blocks) and un-gating Windows GameStream surround; WASAPI loopback capture relaxed to 2/6/8 with the correct dwChannelMask. - clients: Linux (PipeWire), Windows (WASAPI), Android (AAudio) decode via `opus::MSDecoder` + render multichannel; Apple decodes in-core to PCM → AVAudioEngine with an explicit wire-order channel layout; each gains a Stereo/5.1/7.1 setting. `punktfunk-probe --audio-channels N` is the headless validator. Verified on Linux: core/host/linux/probe test suites + the Android Rust (cargo-ndk) build, clippy -D warnings, and rustfmt all green. No SUSPECT (UB) blocks. - capture.rs / encode.rs: the parent-module deny is restored (their WIP children are now proven), and main.rs gains a crate-root #![deny(clippy::undocumented_unsafe_blocks)] — the permanent catch-all gate so no future unsafe block anywhere in the crate can land without a proof. - Fixed 4 blocks the agents missed: unsafe blocks nested inside `assert_eq!(...)` macro args (the comment-above-statement didn't associate) — hoisted to a `let`. - rustfmt-canonicalized the Windows files (the agents' SAFETY comments + some pre-existing 1.9.0 drift) so `cargo fmt --all --check` is clean. GPU-contention work (host-latency plan §5.A): the IDD-push output ring now hands NVENC native YUV instead of RGB, so NVENC skips its internal RGB→YUV colour conversion on the SM/3D engine the running game saturates. - idd_push.rs: out_ring is now NV12 (SDR, BT.709 limited) via a D3D11 VIDEO-engine BGRA→NV12 VideoConverter (keeps the CSC off the contended 3D/compute engine), or P010 (HDR, BT.2020 PQ limited) via the FP16→P010 shader (NVIDIA's VideoProcessor can't do RGB→P010). The ring drops its per-slot RTV (textures only), matching the WGC YUV ring; converters rebuild on a size/HDR flip. - nvenc.rs: NV12 input forces bit_depth=8 so an HDR→SDR toggle (or a 10-bit- negotiated client on an SDR display) re-inits the session at the matching depth — NV12 can't feed a 10-bit session (register_resource rejects it). - punktfunk1.rs: per-stage latency instrumentation under PUNKTFUNK_PERF (cap=try_latest, submit=encode_picture, wait=lock_bitstream µs p50/p99/max) to pinpoint where capture→encoded latency goes under GPU saturation. |

fix(host/vaapi): plug two AVBufferRef leaks in DmabufInner::open
Surfaced while writing the unsafe-soundness proofs (2/N): both are refcount leaks (sound — never dangling/double-free — so the SAFETY proofs held, but real bugs on the persistent punktfunk1-host listener that opens a fresh encoder per session). 1. Per-session leak: `par->hw_frames_ctx = av_buffer_ref(drm_frames)` created a second owned ref. `av_buffersrc_parameters_set` takes its OWN ref of `par->hw_frames_ctx`, and `av_free(par)` frees only the struct, not the ref — so the extra ref leaked every session, pinning the DRM frames ctx + device. Fix: assign `drm_frames` borrowed (the standard ffmpeg pattern); our single owned ref lives in DmabufInner and is unref'd in Drop. 2. Error-path leak: the final `open_vaapi_encoder(...)?` returned without the unref ladder every other error path runs, leaking graph/drm_frames/ vaapi_device/drm_device on encoder-open failure. Verified: cargo clippy -p punktfunk-host --all-targets -- -D warnings is clean
(each file's deny gate hard-errors on any undocumented block).

feat(windows-host): EncoderCaps — query RFI/HDR-SEI caps (Goal-1 stage 5, tightening 3)
The last §2.3 seam-trait tightening: give `Encoder` a `caps() -> EncoderCaps`
so the session glue routes by *query* instead of relying on the no-op/`false`
defaults of `invalidate_ref_frames`/`set_hdr_meta`.
`EncoderCaps { supports_rfi, supports_hdr_metadata }` is a cheap `Copy` struct.
The trait gains a default `caps()` returning `EncoderCaps::default()` (all
false) — correct for every SDR/libavcodec backend (Linux NVENC, VAAPI, AMF/QSV,
software openh264), so they need no change. Only the Windows direct-NVENC path
(`NvencD3d11Encoder`) overrides it, reporting the real `rfi_supported` (probed
once at open via `nvEncGetEncodeCaps`) and `hdr` (HDR-SEI on keyframes).
Consumer: the GameStream encode loop (`gamestream/stream.rs`) hoists
`supports_rfi` once before the loop and gates the loss-recovery path on it —
`!(supports_rfi && enc.invalidate_ref_frames(..))` forces a keyframe directly
on non-RFI encoders instead of making an always-`false` call every loss event.
Behaviour-preserving (same keyframe/RFI outcome), one fewer no-op call, intent
explicit. The native host (punktfunk1) uses FEC+keyframes, no RFI consumer.
Linux `cargo clippy -p punktfunk-host --all-targets -D warnings` clean; the
three edited files are rustfmt-clean. The NVENC override is Windows-only
(1:1 with the existing impl style) → CI/on-glass gate.

Done with `#[path]`, NOT a module rename: every file moves into its folder while the
`crate::*::*` module names stay FLAT, so all caller paths and every internal `super::`/`crate::`
reference are unchanged — only the parent `mod` decls gained `#[path = "..."]`. This is the
codebase's existing pattern (inject's gamepad_windows) and makes the move byte-identical in
behaviour with ZERO reference churn, far lower risk than collapsing to a single
`crate::capture::windows::` namespace (that deeper rename is an optional follow-on; this delivers
the cfg-sprawl folder confinement the stage is about). Done LAST, after the semantic stages, so
the path churn didn't fight them.
Verified: Linux cargo check + clippy (-D warnings) clean; my mod-decl changes fmt-clean (the 3
remaining fmt diffs are pre-existing local-rustfmt-version skew that moved with their files); all
36 `#[path]` targets exist; no internal `#[path]`/`include!`/file-child-mod in any moved file
(the inline `mod X {` blocks are self-contained). Box build to follow.

feat(windows-host): finish HostConfig migration — resolve operator/dispatch knobs once (Goal-1 stage 2)
Migrate 31 genuinely-constant operator/dispatch env::var sites onto HostConfig, so the
capture/topology/encoder decision reads ONE owner instead of being recomputed at each call
site (the latent bug where capture and encode could disagree on the resolved backend, plan §2.4):
idd_push x7, no_wgc, capture_backend, render_adapter, encoder_pref (Linux open_video +
linux_zero_copy_is_vaapi), the Windows vdisplay-backend select, plus the plan-named
secure_dda/idd_depth/zerocopy/ten_bit and the multi-site perf x4 / compositor x5 /
video_source x3 / gamepad. Each HostConfig field's parser is byte-identical to the read it
replaced, so old==new by construction (the plan's "a flipped bool is a silent regression" guard).
Scope correction — the plan's "~64 sites / Linux XDG+compositor included / grep env::var -> 0"
was unsafe as written. Two classes are deliberately KEPT as live reads and documented in config.rs:
* Runtime-mutated session vars. vdisplay::apply_session_env REWRITES the process env on every
connect (the Bazzite Gaming<->Desktop follow): WAYLAND_DISPLAY, XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP,
XDG_RUNTIME_DIR, DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS, and the derived PUNKTFUNK_INPUT_BACKEND,
GAMESCOPE_SESSION/NODE, KWIN/MUTTER_VIRTUAL_PRIMARY, FORCE_SHM. Parsing these once would
freeze them at startup and silently break session-following — they are NOT constant.
* Single-use local tuning with no resolve-once benefit (and FEC_PCT even has two different
semantics): FEC_PCT, VIDEO_DROP, VBV_FRAMES, SPLIT_ENCODE, PACE_BURST_KB, the dxgi timing
knobs, the *_LIVE/test gates, plus path/dynamic reads (config-dir, PATH search,
env-forward-to-child). PUNKTFUNK_ZEROCOPY is split on purpose: Windows presence-semantics
moved to the field; Linux keeps its own truthy (1|true|yes|on) parser.
Verified: Linux cargo check + clippy (-D warnings) + fmt clean on the touched files. The
Windows-only edits are 1:1 substitutions; they get a real Windows compile on the box with Stage 3.

feat(windows): AMD (AMF) + Intel (QSV) hardware encode on the Windows host
The Windows host was NVIDIA-only (NVENC) with an openh264 software fallback. Add
AMD AMF and Intel QSV via libavcodec — the Windows analogue of the Linux VAAPI
backend — so one installer serves all three GPU vendors.
- encode/ffmpeg_win.rs: new WinVendor{Amf,Qsv} encoder. System-memory NV12/P010
readback (default, robust) + opt-in zero-copy D3D11 (PUNKTFUNK_ZEROCOPY: shares
the capturer's ID3D11Device; AMF takes AV_PIX_FMT_D3D11, QSV derives a QSV frames
ctx and maps) with a system fallback for the format-group mismatch the capturer's
video-processor fallback can produce. HDR Main10 (P010 + BT.2020/PQ VUI; an
Rgb10a2->P010 swscale covers the shader fallback).
- encode.rs: Codec::amf_name/qsv_name; open_video + windows_resolved_backend()
resolve PUNKTFUNK_ENCODER=auto|nvenc|amf|qsv|sw via a DXGI adapter VendorId probe.
- capture/dxgi.rs: gpu_mode mirrors the resolved backend (D3D11 NV12/P010 for AMF/QSV).
- gamestream/serverinfo.rs: GPU-aware codec advertisement (windows_codec_support;
AV1 gated to RDNA3+/Arc, like the VAAPI path).
- Cargo.toml: amf-qsv feature (optional ffmpeg-next in the windows target block).
- CI/installer: windows-host.yml sets FFMPEG_DIR + builds --features nvenc,amf-qsv;
the Inno installer bundles the FFmpeg DLLs; host.env default nvenc -> auto.
CI-green target; AMF/QSV not yet on-glass validated (no AMD/Intel Windows box in the
lab) — NVENC stays live-validated. An adversarial-review pass caught + fixed real
FFI bugs (AV_PIX_FMT_P010 is a macro -> P010LE; windows-rs 0.62 GetImmediateContext/
GetDesc1 return Result; AV_HWFRAME_MAP_* is a bindgen enum with no BitOr).

Two strands, entangled in punktfunk1.rs, committed together (one builds-green tree). HDR pipeline Step 0 — glass-to-glass colour-metadata transport (docs/hdr-pipeline-plan.md): - Protocol/ABI: ColorInfo on the Welcome + a 0xCE HdrMeta datagram carry the source colour space + HDR10 static mastering metadata (quic.rs, abi.rs connect_ex5 fixing caps=0). - New platform-independent, unit-tested HDR static-metadata helpers (hdr.rs): chromaticities (1/50000), mastering luminance (0.0001 cd/m2), MaxCLL/MaxFALL in HDR10/ST.2086 units. - Capture/encode hooks (capture.rs, encode.rs set_hdr_meta) + Linux client / probe plumbing. Security-audit hardening — top 3 from docs/security-review.md, each adversarially verified: - #1 [HIGH] Secret file permissions. The host key.pem/cert.pem and both trust stores are now written owner-only: 0600 + dir 0700 on Unix (mirrors mgmt_token), best-effort SYSTEM/Administrators/OWNER-only icacls DACL on Windows (%ProgramData% is Users-readable). Closes a local key-disclosure -> host-impersonation gap. New gamestream::{create_private_dir, write_secret_file} + a 0600 regression test. - #2 [HIGH] Native SPAKE2 PIN is single-use. The PIN is consumed the moment the host sends its key-confirmation (which lets the client test its one guess), before reading the proof, so any completed attempt -- right OR wrong -- disarms the window. A wrong PIN isn't observable host-side (the client aborts before sending its proof), so consuming on first attempt is what delivers the documented "one online guess" instead of an unbounded brute-force of the static 4-digit PIN. Test verifies single-use. - #3 [MEDIUM] RTSP packetSize is bounded ([64,2048] in stream_config) and VideoPacketizer::new uses saturating .max(1), killing a PRE-AUTH div-by-zero/underflow panic of the video thread. A pass over the apollo-comparison backlog (re-verified against current code). Lands four items end-to-end plus a Windows-DualSense scoping doc. - #5/#92/#26 — GameStream paired-cert allow-list. tls.rs surfaces the verified peer cert to handlers (serve_https + PeerCertFingerprint, now shared with the mgmt API instead of duplicated); nvhttp gates /launch /resume /applist /cancel on AppState.paired and reports a real PairStatus; save_paired writes atomically (temp+rename). Closes the "mTLS accepts any client cert" hole. + regression test. - #6/#51/#19/#22 — NVENC caps query -> reference-frame invalidation. nvenc.rs query_caps probes nvEncGetEncodeCaps (max dims / 10-bit / custom-VBV / RFI), rejecting over-range modes and degrading 10-bit->8-bit instead of an opaque InvalidParam. New Encoder::invalidate_ref_frames (default false -> caller keyframes); the Windows NVENC path implements real RFI (multi-ref DPB + nvEncInvalidateRefFrames, dedup + IDR-on-overflow). control.rs decodes the 0x0301 lost-frame range (Apollo's IDX_INVALIDATE_REF_FRAMES) -> AppState.rfi_range -> encode loop, falling back to a keyframe. Wired into UdpTransport and the GameStream video/audio sockets. Windows IP_TOS needs qWAVE (follow-up). - #8/#45 — GameStream input injection off the ENet service thread. on_receive no longer injects inline (a slow inject head-blocked ENet keepalive/retransmit); it forwards to a dedicated injector thread. The hardened InjectorService moved from punktfunk1 into crate::inject (shared by both planes) + a coalesce step that sums adjacent relative-mouse/scroll deltas while preserving button/key/abs ordering. feat(host): VAAPI codec probe + AMD/Intel packaging + neutral logs (Phase 3)
Polish for AMD/Intel support:
- GameStream serverinfo advertises only codecs the GPU can ACTUALLY encode on
the VAAPI backend (probed once by opening a tiny encoder per codec). AV1
encode is narrow (Intel Arc/Xe2+, AMD RDNA3+/RDNA4) and an old iGPU may lack
HEVC, so a Moonlight client never negotiates a codec the encoder can't open.
NVENC/Windows keep the Moonlight-validated static mask. Validated on a Radeon
780M: h264/h265/av1 all probe true -> mask unchanged (65793).
- Packaging: Recommends mesa-va-drivers + intel-media-va-driver (deb) /
mesa-va-drivers + intel-media-driver (rpm) so the auto-selected VAAPI backend
works out of the box on AMD/Intel; NVIDIA boxes can --no-install-recommends.
(Fedora note: stock mesa-va-drivers disables HEVC/AV1 -- needs the freeworld
variant from RPM Fusion.)
- De-NVIDIA-fy the user-facing encoder log/context strings ("open NVENC" ->
"open video encoder") now that VAAPI is a first-class backend.

feat(host/encode): VAAPI zero-copy dmabuf import (AMD/Intel GPU CSC)
Phase 2 of AMD/Intel support: the VAAPI encoder now takes the capture dmabuf directly and does the RGB->NV12 colour conversion on the GPU's video engine, eliminating the host-side de-pad + swscale CSC + upload the CPU path pays. - capture: a vendor-neutral FramePayload::Dmabuf (dup'd fd + fourcc/modifier/ layout). When zero-copy is on, the EGL->CUDA importer is unavailable (any non-NVIDIA host), and the backend is VAAPI, the capturer advertises LINEAR dmabuf and hands the raw buffer to the encoder instead of CPU-copying it. - encode/vaapi: the encoder self-configures from the first frame's payload (no open_video signature change). The dmabuf arm wraps the buffer as an AV_PIX_FMT_DRM_PRIME frame and pushes it through a filter graph buffer(drm_prime) -> hwmap(vaapi) -> scale_vaapi=nv12 -> buffersink; the encoder takes NV12 surfaces straight from the sink. The Phase 1 CPU-upload path is kept as the other arm (used when capture produces CPU frames). Live-validated on a Radeon 780M (real Sway/xdpw desktop capture): correct, pixel-perfect HEVC, and ~10x less host CPU at 1440p (4.2s -> 0.4s of CPU for 300 frames) -- the de-pad/CSC/upload moves to the GPU. The Linux host was NVENC/CUDA-only. Add a VAAPI encoder — one libavcodec backend (h264/hevc/av1_vaapi) covering both AMD (Mesa radeonsi) and Intel (iHD) — behind the existing `Encoder` trait, and turn `open_video`'s Linux arm into a vendor dispatcher: `PUNKTFUNK_ENCODER=auto|nvenc|vaapi` (default auto: NVENC when a CUDA frame or /dev/nvidia* is present, else VAAPI). The NVIDIA path is unchanged — auto resolves to NVENC on an NVIDIA box and the bitrate-probe loop moved verbatim into `open_nvenc_probed`. `VaapiEncoder` mirrors the NVENC hwframes pattern with AV_HWDEVICE_TYPE_VAAPI. The CPU-input path swscales packed RGB -> NV12 (BT.709 limited, VUI signalled) and uploads into a pooled VA surface (av_hwframe_transfer_data), preserving the low-latency model (infinite GOP, on-demand forced IDR, async_depth=1, CBR when the driver supports it). It works on a non-NVIDIA box with no capture changes: the capturer already falls back to CPU frames when its EGL->CUDA importer can't initialise (no libcuda). Live-validated on a Radeon 780M (RDNA3): hevc/h264/av1_vaapi all encode, HEVC/H264 decode cleanly with correct BT.709-limited colours, infinite GOP preserved.
