The pad rendered nothing — not its speaker, not its voice coils — because `uac-host` streamed into a device it never unmuted. It set the sample rate and nothing else; the UAC Feature Unit, where Mute and Volume live, was parsed by nobody. Every counter stayed green throughout: URBs completed, 0 short bytes, 0 URB errors, 0 short writes here, decoded peak 19345. None of them can observe mute, so a muted device is indistinguishable from a working one. Bumps the pin to unom-io/usbfs-iso f3de1fd, which sends SET_CUR Mute=0 and Volume=0 dB to the Feature Unit before the stream starts. With this in, Spider-Man Remastered's haptics reach the physical DualSense through the virtual pad, confirmed by feel on real hardware. feat(android): tier-A pad audio — the 0xD1 plane on the pad's USB endpoint (WP9)
The Android twin of `pf-client-core`'s pad_audio: drain the host's per-pad DualSense streams, Opus-decode haptics (kind 0) and speaker (kind 1), interleave into the pad's own 4-channel layout, and render on the pad itself. Every other client hands that stream to the platform's audio graph. Android cannot: AOSP's UsbAlsaManager denylists the DualSense's output by VID/PID, so the kernel enumerates the pad's playback node and the framework discards it — `hasOutput: false`, nothing for setPreferredDevice to target, /dev/snd closed by SELinux, and UsbRequest rejects non-bulk/interrupt endpoints. So this drives the pad's isochronous endpoint directly via uac-host on the descriptor Java owns. That is measured, not assumed. On a Nothing Phone (3): the claim succeeds unprivileged, the gamepad and the pad's microphone both keep working, and the underrun-free floor is 4 ms — holding under eight-core load with the SoC in severe thermal throttling. The renderer runs at 6 ms, one step of headroom, because the same measurement found transient events that are not depth-dependent. Structured to the crate's own convention: the mixer and PLC are ungated so they compile and unit-test in the host workspace (8 tests), while everything touching an Android-only dependency is cfg'd to android. Two details worth review: - The kinds arrive on different cadences (5 ms vs 10 ms), so each has its own write cursor and both shift together on overflow — a haptics-only session renders with a silent speaker pair instead of stalling on a kind that will never arrive, and the two can never skew. - An unrecognised kind is dropped rather than folded into the coil pair. A `min(1)` clamp would have rendered a future kind straight into the actuators. Lifecycle mirrors MicCapture: dropping the handle joins the thread, and nativeStopPadAudio returns only once it has, so Kotlin may close the UsbDeviceConnection as soon as it returns and not before. usbfs-iso/uac-host enter as git dependencies pinned by revision — a transport under a real-time deadline should move when we choose. They become version dependencies once published to crates.io. |

chore(unsafe): the workspace adopts the drivers' unsafe discipline
`packaging/windows/drivers/*` has run `deny(unsafe_op_in_unsafe_fn)` +
`deny(clippy::undocumented_unsafe_blocks)` for a while, with `forbid(unsafe_code)`
on the modules that need no unsafe at all. The main workspace had no lint config
whatsoever, so nothing stopped a clean crate from quietly growing an `unsafe`, and
nothing distinguished the handful of genuinely-unsafe lines inside a 600-line
`unsafe fn` from the safe ones surrounding them.
Three things, all mechanical:
* `#![forbid(unsafe_code)]` on the eight crates that already contain zero unsafe
(`pf-driver-proto`, `pf-host-config`, `pf-paths`, the three clean clients, both
tools). These were clean by accident, not by contract; now they are clean by
contract.
* `unsafe_op_in_unsafe_fn = "warn"` workspace-wide. `unsafe fn` states a contract
the CALLER must uphold — it was never meant to switch off checking for the whole
body. Measured fallout is 300 sites on Linux, and they are concentrated: six
files carry all of them, while `punktfunk-core`, `pf-frame`, `pf-clipboard` and
`pf-vdisplay` are already at zero. `warn` (not `deny`) so the build stays green
while those six are worked down; it flips to `deny` once they are. This is also
the Rust 2024 default, so it pays off the edition migration early.
* `proc::current_uid()` replaces eight `unsafe { libc::getuid() }` blocks. Each
site had copied out the same SAFETY note verbatim, which is the tell: `getuid()`
is parameterless, always succeeds and touches no memory, so there is no contract
for a caller to uphold and no reason for the unsafe to be visible eight times.
One `unsafe` behind a safe wrapper, none at the call sites.
Verified: `pf-vdisplay` builds clean on Linux (Nobara) at zero E0133; the
macOS-buildable crates build clean locally. No behaviour change.

0.9.0's HUD display stage hard-linked AMediaCodec_setOnFrameRenderedCallback via
ndk-sys believing it API 26; the symbol is API 33 ("Available since Android T").
A cdylib links fine with the dangling import, so it only exploded at
System.loadLibrary on every pre-13 device: UnsatisfiedLinkError, then every
NativeBridge touch throws NoClassDefFoundError — surfacing as "Identity
unavailable: io.unom.punktfunk.kit.NativeBridge", a dead pair button, and no
discovery (reported on a Y700 / Android 12; 13+ devices unaffected).
- decode::install_render_callback now dlsym-resolves the entry point from
libmediandk.so, mirroring try_set_frame_rate; on API < 33 the HUD simply has
no display stage (the pre-0.9.0 behaviour) and the .so loads.
- New scripts/ci/check-android-jni-imports.sh, wired as checkJniImports* gradle
tasks the APK build depends on: fails the build if libpunktfunk_android.so
imports any symbol absent from the NDK's API-28 stubs — `--platform 28` never
enforced this (cdylib links permit undefined symbols), despite the old
comment's claim. Verified: 3 ABIs clean at the 28 floor, and the check flags
the known API-28 symbols when pointed at a 27 floor.

feat(clients/android): OnFrameRendered display stage — HUD headline becomes capture→displayed
The long-deferred Android display stage (design/stats-unification.md; plan 4.1 of design/client-parity-and-network-resilience.md): AMediaCodec_setOnFrameRenderedCallback (API 26, under the minSdk-28 floor ⇒ hard-linked via ndk-sys) reports SurfaceFlinger's per-frame render timestamp, giving the HUD the spec's `display` = decoded→displayed term and the directly-measured capture→displayed end-to-end headline on both decode loops. Falls back per spec to the v1 capture→decoded endpoint on any window without render callbacks (the platform may drop them under load), and to it permanently if registration is refused. - The render timestamp arrives on CLOCK_MONOTONIC; it's re-based onto CLOCK_REALTIME against monotonic-now at callback time, which also cancels the (batchable) callback delivery lag. - The `ndk` crate exposes neither the callback nor the codec pointer needed to bind it raw, so the workspace pins `ndk` 0.9.0 to a vendored copy (clients/android/native/ vendor/ndk) whose ONLY change makes MediaCodec::as_ptr public — the "as_ptr patch". Workspace-excluded so host builds never compile it; drop when upstream exposes either. - nativeVideoStats grows to 26 doubles (22–25: dispValid, displayP50, e2eDispP50/P95; 0–21 unchanged for older readers); StatsOverlay moves headline endpoint + equation together so the equation always tiles the headline interval. Verified: host cargo check/test/clippy, aarch64-linux-android check/clippy, Kotlin app+kit+tests compile, roborazzi HUD render shows the full 4-term equation. Device verification rides plan 4.2's phone A/B. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

refactor(client): extract UI-agnostic plumbing into pf-client-core (phase 0)
Session pump, FFmpeg decode, PipeWire audio, SDL3 gamepads, keymap, trust store, mDNS discovery, library client and Wake-on-LAN move verbatim from clients/linux into crates/pf-client-core, shared with the upcoming Vulkan session binary (punktfunk-planning: linux-client-rearchitecture.md). The GTK client re-exports them at the crate root so every existing crate::-path keeps resolving; its manifest drops the moved-only deps. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(android): hold BOTH Wi-Fi locks while streaming — HIGH_PERF alone is a no-op
The baseline stream held only WIFI_MODE_FULL_HIGH_PERF, which is deprecated AND non-functional on recent Android — so with the low-latency toggle off (the default) Wi-Fi power save stayed fully active: downlink delivery clumped at beacon intervals (a few hundred ms of latency mush, sawtoothing bitrate) and the AP's power-save buffer periodically overflowed, killing whole frames every few seconds (the host log's alternating loss_ppm=0/50000). Now every stream holds FULL_LOW_LATENCY (API 29+, the only effective power-save disable; foreground + screen-on, which a stream always is) AND FULL_HIGH_PERF (covers older releases) — the same pair Moonlight holds. The experimental toggle no longer selects the lock mode. Also: declare tracing's "log" feature explicitly in the native crate (core transport warnings → logcat must not hinge on quinn's default features), and align the low-latency toggle's copy with its actual scope. feat(android): console UI, wake-on-LAN wait-until-up, host edit + TV/tablet polish
Bring the Android client to parity with Apple's gamepad experience and finish Wake-on-LAN. - Console/gamepad home: host carousel, aurora chrome, mTLS game-library coverflow, and an input-aware legend that switches between gamepad face buttons and a TV-remote select-ring + arrows based on the last-used input. - Wake-on-LAN: the fire-and-forget send is upgraded to wait-until-up (WakeController/WakeOverlay: resend + mDNS poll, 90s timeout, cancel/retry, fingerprint-matched so a host that cold-boots onto a new DHCP IP still connects), plus host edit (touch dialog + console form) with an auto-filled MAC. - Android TV: brand banner (android:banner), density-aware console scaling, D-pad/ remote nav (Up = Settings, Down or the pad Select button = host Options), emergency stream-exit chord, and 120Hz console refresh. - Touch UI: settings split into subpages with a tablet NavigationRail, axis-aware tab animation (horizontal on phones, vertical on the tablet rail), animated settings navigation, and a licenses screen with a back button + the real workspace version (read from Cargo.toml). - Vector Lock/controller icons (no emoji); bundled Geist font. refactor(android): split session JNI into modules, HUD-gated stats, AAudio open retry
- native: the 756-line session.rs becomes session/{mod,connect,input,planes}.rs
around a SessionHandle (connect lifecycle + trust, input plane shims, plane
start/stop + stats drain).
- Decode-stats sampling is HUD-gated (nativeSetVideoStatsEnabled): with the
overlay hidden the decode thread skips the per-AU clock read + lock; enabling
resets the measurement window.
- audio: the AAudio open path is a per-sharing-mode try_open closure — the
realtime callback state (ring, prime, free-list) is rebuilt per attempt, so a
failed exclusive-mode try can't leak state into the shared-mode retry.
- Kotlin: ConnectScreen/StreamScreen slimmed by extracting ConnectDialogs,
StatsOverlay and TouchInput.

feat(android): native mDNS discovery, host naming, touch mouse, stock selects
Discovery: replace the flaky per-OEM NsdManager with the same mdns-sd browse
the Linux/Windows clients use, in the Rust core over JNI and polled by Kotlin
(discovery.rs + nativeDiscovery{Start,Poll,Stop}); Kotlin keeps only the Wi-Fi
MulticastLock + permission UX. IPv4-only (the core can't dial a bare/scoped v6
literal); daemon + fold-thread cleanup on every failure path; field
sanitization so a rogue advert can't corrupt the picker snapshot. Discovery
now starts regardless of NEARBY_WIFI_DEVICES (raw multicast only needs the
MulticastLock) — a denial no longer kills it forever. ParseTxtTest replaced by
ParseRecordTest.
Hosts: hide already-saved hosts from the "Discovered" section (match by
fingerprint, else address:port — mirrors the Apple client); add an optional
Name field to the Add-host sheet and a Rename action on saved cards.
Input: touch -> absolute mouse "direct pointing" like the Apple client — the
host cursor follows the finger (new nativeSendPointerAbs -> MouseMoveAbs). Tap
= left click, two-finger tap = right click, two-finger drag = scroll,
tap-then-drag = left-drag, three-finger tap = HUD toggle.
Settings: revert the dropdowns to the stock ExposedDropdownMenuBox look (a
controller-focus UI will come separately); even out the Add-host field gaps.
Docs updated (CLAUDE.md, client READMEs, docs-site status).

feat(android): HDR (Main10 / BT.2020 PQ) + fix ndk feature gating
Mirrors the Apple client's HDR path so the Android client can display HDR from a
Windows HDR host:
- nativeConnect now advertises VIDEO_CAP_10BIT | VIDEO_CAP_HDR (was 0), so the
host upgrades to a Main10 / BT.2020 PQ encode.
- decode.rs detects HDR reactively from the decoder's reported output colour
(color-transfer ST2084=6 / HLG=7, color-range) -- the AMediaCodec analogue of
VideoToolbox's format description on Apple -- and signals the Surface dataspace
(Bt2020[Itu]Pq / Bt2020[Itu]Hlg) so the compositor/display switch to HDR.
AMediaCodec decodes Main10 from the in-band SPS; no profile override needed.
Also fixes the Android build: set_frame_rate (added in

feat(android): live stats HUD + low-latency decode tuning
Stats HUD (mirrors the Apple client): the decode thread accumulates FPS, receive throughput, and capture->client latency (p50/p95, skew-corrected) in Rust (clients/android/native/src/stats.rs); nativeVideoStats drains a snapshot ~1 Hz over JNI as a DoubleArray. StreamScreen renders a Compose overlay (W*H@Hz / fps / Mb/s / latency, + dropped-under-loss), toggled by a Settings switch (persisted, default on) or a 3-finger tap. Performance (decode.rs): - ANativeWindow_setFrameRate(refresh_hz): align display vsync to the stream rate (no 60-in-120 judder); safe since minSdk 31 >= API 30. - Raise the decode thread toward URGENT_DISPLAY (best-effort setpriority) so background work can't preempt it under load. - Codec low-latency hints KEY_PRIORITY=0 (realtime) + KEY_OPERATING_RATE. Verified host-side: cargo build/clippy/fmt --workspace (the ungated stats + JNI accessor). The android-gated decode.rs (NDK) and the Kotlin build only in CI (android.yml: gradle + cargo-ndk) -- APIs verified against crate sources. refactor: drop milestone names + consolidate clients; loss-recovery & rumble fixes
Two bodies of work in one commit (the rename moved files the fixes also touched). Naming/structure cleanup (pre-launch): - Host modules m3.rs->punktfunk1.rs, m0.rs->spike.rs; CLI m3-host->punktfunk1-host, m0->spike; bare `punktfunk-host` now prints help. Types M3Options/M3Source-> Punktfunk1Options/Punktfunk1Source. - Clients consolidated out of crates/ into clients/: punktfunk-client-rs-> clients/probe (crate punktfunk-probe), client-linux->clients/linux, client-windows->clients/windows, punktfunk-android->clients/android/native (crate punktfunk-client-android; kept [lib] name=punktfunk_android so the JNI contract is unchanged). crates/ now holds only core + host. - Milestone codes M0-M4 purged from code/CLI/CLAUDE.md/README/docs/docs-site, kept only in docs/implementation-plan.md. docs/m2-plan.md-> docs/gamestream-host-plan.md. CI/gradle/flatpak paths updated. Client loss-recovery (video froze and never recovered after a brief drop): - Export punktfunk_connection_frames_dropped through the C ABI (the core already tracked it for the client keyframe-recovery loop; it was never reachable from the ABI clients). Regenerated punktfunk_core.h. - Apple (StreamPump + Stage2Pipeline) and Android (decode.rs) now poll frames_dropped and request a keyframe when it climbs -- the same loss-driven recovery Linux/Windows already had. Under infinite GOP the decoder silently conceals reference-missing frames, so the decode-error trigger rarely fires. Apple rumble robustness (worked then went spotty -- DualSense + Xbox): - Add CHHapticEngine stopped/reset handlers (rebuild on app background / audio interruption / server reset) and drop the permanent `broken` latch on a transient drive failure; latch only when the controller truly has no haptics. - Surface swallowed SDL set_rumble errors on Linux/Windows + diagnostic logging. Verified: cargo build/clippy/fmt --workspace, C-ABI harness, header drift. Not runnable on this box (verify in CI): Gitea workflows, gradle/Android, flatpak, Swift/decky.
