feat: M10 — FFmpeg is gone from the client
cargo tree -p punktfunk-client-session finds no ffmpeg. The host still does, which is the whole point: pf-encode keeps libavcodec unconditionally and no host workflow, packaging script or licence file was touched. Deleted: crates/pf-ffvk, video_vulkan.rs, video_vaapi.rs, video_libav.rs, the libavcodec half of video_d3d11.rs, the av_log machinery, ffmpeg::codec::Id as the decoder's vocabulary (the quic CODEC_* wire constants now serve, which is why the evidence table was keyed on them), DecodedImage::VkFrame and ::Dmabuf, the presenter's AVVkFrame lane, and the ffmpeg-fallback feature with everything behind it. DrmFrameGuard collapses from an enum to a newtype, which removes an unsafe impl Send. Roughly 25,000 lines. Then the CI, packaging, licensing and docs work the plan's §6 lists: the Windows workflows lose FFMPEG_DIR, PF_FFVK_VULKAN_INCLUDE and their PATH prepend; the MSIX loses its DLL wildcard; the client .deb stops emitting libav sonames on its own because depends come from dpkg-shlibdeps; arch, flatpak and nix drop the dependency; and the README's "FFmpeg 7 or 8" contract narrows to the host. Three defects reached users' machines in the first cut, and none was in the deletion itself. All three desktop Settings UIs offer vulkan, vaapi and d3d11va as stored decoder values, so those strings sit in shipped settings files today. Refusing them by name — which is the correct rule for a stale pin — would have bricked every upgraded client whose owner ever touched that dropdown. They now migrate onto the native rung for the same hardware family, at decoder construction AND at each dialog's lookup, because a legacy value that matches no preset displays as "Automatic" and silently rewrites the user's preference on the next save. M9's evidence filter was deleted on the argument that with no libavcodec twin below, barring an unproven rung removes hardware decode rather than moving down one rung. That is true on Windows and false on Linux for Intel and every unknown vendor id, where prefer_vulkan_first is false and the order is native-vaapi → native-vk: a rung that has decoded nothing anywhere sitting above one that is 250/250 on three drivers. Every Intel Linux desktop would have moved from libavcodec VAAPI, shipping for years, onto pf-vaadec by default — and a rung that constructs and then produces wrong pixels leaves only by the error-streak demotion, which this codebase already documents as not tripping on the B580's strobing. The filter is restored as a narrow, pure, testable rule: an unproven rung yields to a proven one, and to nothing else. Windows deliberately passes no rung below, because that vendor family is the one with a measured wrong-pixel report against Vulkan decode, and trading no evidence for evidence of corruption is the wrong direction. And the notices still said FFmpeg was bundled. The root file is what both desktop clients include_str! and what the MSIX ships, three lines under the new card saying no FFmpeg is bundled; Apple's Acknowledgements said it too, on iOS, tvOS and macOS. The generator now emits four per-client files scoped by transitive closure — 0 FFmpeg mentions in each, verified — while the root file keeps it for the host. That also ends the standing false attribution of ffmpeg-next, GTK4, windows-rs and the NVENC SDK to an iPhone. Windows has no reachable box, so it was compiled instead: a cross clippy at -D warnings on x86_64 and aarch64-pc-windows-msvc with the C toolchain stubbed so build scripts run without linking. That gate immediately caught an include_str! path one directory too deep, which nothing else could have. Gates: container clippy -D warnings, 160 tests, workspace check, both Windows targets clean, client ffmpeg count 0 and host 2. The four decode crates are untouched, so the hardware rungs' 250/250 stands. ⚠ Owed and unrun: no GPU has executed any of this milestone. M8's on-glass software check, M7's D3D11 and VAAPI AV1 hardware legs, and M9's field bake all still want hardware, and the bake window and criteria remain the user's. |

feat(client): the desktop clients wear the host's OS mark
The client half of the host's new `os=` advert, shared once in pf-client-core: `sanitize_os` (mDNS is unauthenticated input — lowercase `[a-z0-9._-]` tokens, capped) and `os_icon_tokens`, the most-specific-first walk with the brand aliases (`macos`→apple, `steamos`→steam) every platform resolves through. `DiscoveredHost` carries the chain, `KnownHost` persists it (`serde(default)`, elided when empty — older stores load unchanged and older clients read back exactly what they wrote), `upsert` moves it only when carried, and `learn_os` mirrors `learn_mac` — no-op, no disk write when unchanged — so the mark survives the host going to sleep. GTK shells: the card's status row leads with a recolorable symbolic glyph. That needed real embedded assets — the shells had none — so `data/` gains the ten `pf-os-*-symbolic` SVGs compiled into a gresource (new build.rs, glib-build-tools) and registered on the icon theme at startup; the Adwaita theme then tints them like every other status glyph. WinUI shell: reactor renders raster-from-URI only, so the embedded mid-gray PNGs (legible on both themes) materialize once into %LOCALAPPDATA%\punktfunk\os-icons\ — the library's poster-art pattern — and the tile's status row leads with a 16px image. The couch UI plumbs `HostRow.os` (live advert preferred, else the store) for a Skia glyph that is a declared follow-up; `--list-hosts` / `hosts --json` emit the stored chain so the Decky plugin can read it. chore(unsafe): the workspace adopts the drivers' unsafe discipline
`packaging/windows/drivers/*` has run `deny(unsafe_op_in_unsafe_fn)` +
`deny(clippy::undocumented_unsafe_blocks)` for a while, with `forbid(unsafe_code)`
on the modules that need no unsafe at all. The main workspace had no lint config
whatsoever, so nothing stopped a clean crate from quietly growing an `unsafe`, and
nothing distinguished the handful of genuinely-unsafe lines inside a 600-line
`unsafe fn` from the safe ones surrounding them.
Three things, all mechanical:
* `#![forbid(unsafe_code)]` on the eight crates that already contain zero unsafe
(`pf-driver-proto`, `pf-host-config`, `pf-paths`, the three clean clients, both
tools). These were clean by accident, not by contract; now they are clean by
contract.
* `unsafe_op_in_unsafe_fn = "warn"` workspace-wide. `unsafe fn` states a contract
the CALLER must uphold — it was never meant to switch off checking for the whole
body. Measured fallout is 300 sites on Linux, and they are concentrated: six
files carry all of them, while `punktfunk-core`, `pf-frame`, `pf-clipboard` and
`pf-vdisplay` are already at zero. `warn` (not `deny`) so the build stays green
while those six are worked down; it flips to `deny` once they are. This is also
the Rust 2024 default, so it pays off the edition migration early.
* `proc::current_uid()` replaces eight `unsafe { libc::getuid() }` blocks. Each
site had copied out the same SAFETY note verbatim, which is the tell: `getuid()`
is parameterless, always succeeds and touches no memory, so there is no contract
for a caller to uphold and no reason for the unsafe to be visible eight times.
One `unsafe` behind a safe wrapper, none at the call sites.
Verified: `pf-vdisplay` builds clean on Linux (Nobara) at zero E0133; the
macOS-buildable crates build clean locally. No behaviour change.

refactor(client): relm4 desktop shell; delete legacy presenter + coverflow (phase 5)
The GTK client becomes a relm4 component tree: AppModel owns the window, trust gate (rules 1-3), and the spawned session child's lifecycle as typed messages; the hosts page is a child component with a FactoryVecDeque of host cards — the HostsCallbacks Rc<dyn Fn> bag, the busy Cell, and the Rc<RefCell<HostsUi>> cross-page pokes are gone. Trust/settings/library dialogs stay plain GTK, invoked from update with a ComponentSender. Deleted with the in-process presenter: ui_stream.rs, video_gl.rs, ui_gamepad_library.rs, launch.rs, the khronos-egl dep, and the PUNKTFUNK_LEGACY_PRESENTER hatch. Every stream (and the console library) now runs in punktfunk-session; the shell spawns it for card connects and exec's it for --connect/--browse so the Decky wrapper keeps working. The request-access flow gains --connect-timeout + a CancelHandle that kills the child. Screenshot scenes re-pointed onto the components (verified: hosts + library self-capture; the dialog scenes present correctly and capture under a GL renderer); the gamepad-library scene is gone with the page. refactor(client): extract UI-agnostic plumbing into pf-client-core (phase 0)
Session pump, FFmpeg decode, PipeWire audio, SDL3 gamepads, keymap, trust store, mDNS discovery, library client and Wake-on-LAN move verbatim from clients/linux into crates/pf-client-core, shared with the upcoming Vulkan session binary (punktfunk-planning: linux-client-rearchitecture.md). feat(client-linux): in-process GL presenter — hardware decode ships on the Steam Deck
VAAPI decode stays; what changes is who touches the YUV. The direct path hands the NV12 dmabuf (tiled AMD modifier since Mesa 25.1) to GdkDmabufTexture, and GTK's tiled-NV12 import renders corrupt/gray/washed-out on the Deck. Moonlight and mpv are clean on the same box because they import the dmabuf into their own EGL context and convert with their own shader — video_gl.rs is that architecture for the GTK client: per-plane EGLImages (R8 + GR88, modifier passed through) → our YUV→RGB shader (matrix/range from the stream's CICP signaling, unit-tested) → RGBA texture in a GdkGLContext-shared context → fence-synced GdkGLTexture. GTK composites plain RGBA; no YUV negotiation, no compositor CSC. The Deck's decoder default flips back to hardware (the software stopgap is gone); desktops keep the direct dmabuf path (offload/scan-out eligible). PUNKTFUNK_PRESENT=direct|gl overrides either way. New failure ladder: GL converter init failure or a convert-error streak raises a shared flag and the session pump demotes the decoder to software with a keyframe re-request — the same mechanism also closes the old silent-black-screen gap where a rejected dmabuf import had no recovery at all. feat(linux): game library browser; split app.rs into cli/launch/ui_trust
- library.rs + ui_library.rs: the host's unified game library over the management API (the Apple LibraryClient/LibraryView ported) — mTLS with the paired identity, host verified by its pinned cert fingerprint (ureq + rustls, unified with the workspace rustls 0.23); posters load async with monogram placeholders, and picking a title starts a session that asks the host to launch it (the library id rides the Hello). - app.rs (~800 lines lighter) splits into cli.rs (argv/headless pairing/--connect/screenshot scenes), launch.rs (mode resolve + session worker + event stream into the UI) and ui_trust.rs (TOFU / SPAKE2 PIN / delegated-approval dialogs); ui_hosts/ui_stream reworked around the split. refactor: drop milestone names + consolidate clients; loss-recovery & rumble fixes
Two bodies of work in one commit (the rename moved files the fixes also touched). Naming/structure cleanup (pre-launch): - Host modules m3.rs->punktfunk1.rs, m0.rs->spike.rs; CLI m3-host->punktfunk1-host, m0->spike; bare `punktfunk-host` now prints help. Types M3Options/M3Source-> Punktfunk1Options/Punktfunk1Source. - Clients consolidated out of crates/ into clients/: punktfunk-client-rs-> clients/probe (crate punktfunk-probe), client-linux->clients/linux, client-windows->clients/windows, punktfunk-android->clients/android/native (crate punktfunk-client-android; kept [lib] name=punktfunk_android so the JNI contract is unchanged). crates/ now holds only core + host. - Milestone codes M0-M4 purged from code/CLI/CLAUDE.md/README/docs/docs-site, kept only in docs/implementation-plan.md. docs/m2-plan.md-> docs/gamestream-host-plan.md. CI/gradle/flatpak paths updated. Client loss-recovery (video froze and never recovered after a brief drop): - Export punktfunk_connection_frames_dropped through the C ABI (the core already tracked it for the client keyframe-recovery loop; it was never reachable from the ABI clients). Regenerated punktfunk_core.h. - Apple (StreamPump + Stage2Pipeline) and Android (decode.rs) now poll frames_dropped and request a keyframe when it climbs -- the same loss-driven recovery Linux/Windows already had. Under infinite GOP the decoder silently conceals reference-missing frames, so the decode-error trigger rarely fires. Apple rumble robustness (worked then went spotty -- DualSense + Xbox): - Add CHHapticEngine stopped/reset handlers (rebuild on app background / audio interruption / server reset) and drop the permanent `broken` latch on a transient drive failure; latch only when the controller truly has no haptics. - Surface swallowed SDL set_rumble errors on Linux/Windows + diagnostic logging. Verified: cargo build/clippy/fmt --workspace, C-ABI harness, header drift. Not runnable on this box (verify in CI): Gitea workflows, gradle/Android, flatpak, Swift/decky.
