feat(host,sdk,kit): store claims, launcher entries, and plugin sources on the wire
M2 of design/library-scanner-plugins-implementation-plan.md. Everything a
library scanner plugin needs is now expressible over the API; all additive.
WP2.1/2.2 — store claims (D2). library.json gains a v2 shape ({entries, claims})
that loads the v1 bare array unchanged and is written on the first mutation.
PUT /library/provider/{p}?store=<s> claims a store for a provider: its entries
then surface with deterministic <store>:<external_id> ids and the store's own
badge instead of opaque custom:<id> ones. That identity is the whole point —
entry ids, GameStream FNV app ids, client art caches and Moonlight pins all
survive a title moving from an in-host scanner to a plugin. One provider per
store (409 otherwise); DELETE releases; an empty reconcile does NOT (a store can
legitimately have zero titles). While a claim is held, all_games() skips the
matching built-in scanner, so the two never double-list during the bridge.
WP2.3 — DetectHint gains steam_appid and env_marker, the two store-derived
signals the host used to read for itself. Without them a steam plugin's lease
tracking would drop from reaper-exact to dir-prefix, and Heroic-under-Proton
would lose the only signal that works. Malformed markers are dropped, not
honoured — this feeds a path that can end processes.
WP2.4/2.5 — role: game|launcher on the entry shapes (serde-default, skipped when
default), and a steam_ui launch kind valued bigpicture|desktop that opens the
Steam client itself. Validated inbound as well as at launch.
WP2.6 — GET/PUT /library/scanners generalizes to SOURCES: built-in scanners
minus claimed ones, plus claimed stores, plus any provider with entries. The
same library-scanners.json disabled-set backs all of them and the ids match by
construction, so a user's disabled state carries over verbatim through the whole
migration. A disabled plugin source has its entries filtered at read time,
exactly like a disabled scanner.
WP2.7/2.8 — plugin registration gains a category field (the console keeps
library plugins out of the nav); index entries gain categories and per-platform
detect probes, evaluated existence-only into CatalogEntry.detected so the host
never re-grows per-store knowledge. Index SCHEMA stays 1 — additive.
WP2.9 — OpenAPI + SDK regenerated on Linux; kit wire widened (LaunchSpec.kind is
now a plain string documented against the host's vocabulary — closes G3), and
ProviderClient.reconcile takes an optional store and returns the host's echoed
entries so a caller can detect a pre-M2 host silently ignoring the claim.
Also fixes a bug the S3 spike turned up: is_steam_launch gated on a steam:// URI,
so a steam_ui launcher entry would have skipped BOTH gamescope's --steam mode and
the B1 single-instance free — on a box autologged into game mode, the nested
second Steam would see the first and exit, crashing the spawn. It now tests the
first token.
Gates on .21: workspace tests green (punktfunk-host 425 passed), workspace
clippy -D warnings clean, cargo fmt --all --check clean, OpenAPI drift test
green. plugin-kit: tsc clean, 20 tests pass.

refactor(host/library): launch helpers into launch.rs, art proxy resolves any id
M1 of design/library-scanner-plugins-implementation-plan.md — behavior-frozen groundwork for lifting the six scanners out into plugins. WP1.1: heroic_command/heroic_launch_prefix, epic_launch_uri, gog_spawn, valid_steam_appid and shortcut_gameid move into library/launch.rs with their unit tests. The scanner modules beside it now do enumeration only, so they can be deleted wholesale later without taking launch logic with them (D1). WP1.2: is_local_art_path accepts file:// (the plugin contract) and POSIX absolute paths, excluding the two /-leading shapes the host itself emits (its own /api/ proxy path and protocol-relative CDN URLs). local_art_bytes percent-decodes and converts a file:// value first. The art proxy and fetch_box_art resolve ANY id against library.json before the legacy steam: branch, so a plugin's entries serve art without the host knowing its store. No API change; no user-visible change. |

fix(plugins): plugin output reaches the console's log page, and /tmp is no longer hidden from the runner
A user could not get the VirtualHere plugin to use their VirtualHere client and asked, reasonably, where the logs were. There was no good answer, and the reason they were stuck turned out to be ours. **The runner could not see /tmp.** `punktfunk-scripting.service` set PrivateTmp=yes, which hands the unit a private tmpfs. But integrating with things already running on the box is the entire job of a plugin, and on Linux those talk over /tmp: VirtualHere's client IPC is the FIFO pair /tmp/vhclient + /tmp/vhclient_response, X11 is /tmp/.X11-unix. So the plugin launched the vendor binary happily and could then never reach the daemon behind it — while the same command worked perfectly in the operator's own shell, because that shell has the real /tmp. No config change could fix it, which is exactly the loop the report described. PrivateTmp is now off, with /tmp added to ReadWritePaths (which ProtectSystem=strict would otherwise make read-only). **Plugin logs now land in the console.** Plugins are not host child processes — the runner is a separate bun process that import()s each plugin in-process — so nothing they print passed through the host's tracing, and the console's Logs page could not show a single plugin line. The fallback was journalctl on Linux; on Windows the runner's scheduled task writes no log file at all, so a failing plugin was diagnosable only by stopping the task and re-running the runner by hand. Both mean shell access on the host box, which is what the console exists to avoid — and it left the one question a stuck user asks with no answer. So the runner now tees its output to POST /api/v1/plugins/logs, and those lines join the host's own ring under one cursor, targeted plugin:<name>. The console grows a Host/Plugins switch beside the level filter; an empty Plugins view says the thing that is actually usually wrong (the runner isn't running) rather than "adjust the filter". The shipper keeps stdout authoritative — journald and foreground output are unchanged whatever the host is doing — and is built so that logging can never hurt the thing being logged: it never throws into a caller, holds a bounded queue that drops oldest and then says how many, backs off when the host is away (a restart is normal), and re-sends a batch the host failed to take. Lines logged while a POST is in flight are kept, which cost one round to get right: the first version held its recursion guard across the await and silently dropped exactly the lines a busy plugin produces. Runner lines that report a failure (a refused unit file, a crashed plugin, a give-up) now go out at warn/error instead of all arriving as INFO, so the console's level filter means something for them. feat(core): every connect introduces the device by name
The wire always had Hello.name and the host always honored it - but the connect path hardcoded None (only the PIN-pairing ceremony sent a name), so every no-PIN "request access" knock surfaced as the fingerprint placeholder "device abcd1234", and approving one without retyping a name persisted that placeholder into the trust store forever. NativeClient::connect now takes the device name. The session workers and the probe connects pass trust::device_name() (the hostname), the C ABI defaults to the same without a signature change (an ex10 variant can make it explicit if an embedder wants a custom label), and Android threads Build.MODEL through nativeConnect - the same convention its pairing dialogs already use for nativePair. The host, in turn, resolves the streaming client's display name (trust store first, so an approval-time rename wins; else the sanitized Hello name) and exposes it as client_name in GET /api/v1/local/summary for the tray's connect toast - a deliberate, documented loosening of that route's "no device names" contract, in the local user's favor: it tells them who is on their machine. A paired-but-idle device's name still never appears, which the mgmt tests now pin explicitly. openapi.json, its docs-site copy, and the SDK bindings regenerate. feat(host,api): the host knows what OS it runs, and says so
Clients want to show which OS/distro a host runs. The host now detects it once per process (new osinfo module: compile-time on Windows/macOS, os-release on Linux) and advertises an icon-friendly specificity chain, generic → specific — `windows`, `macos`, `linux[/<family>][/<id>]`, e.g. `linux/fedora/bazzite`, `linux/arch/steamos`. A client walks the chain most-specific-first and shows the first token it has art for, so an unknown distro degrades to its family's mark and finally to plain Tux — the host emits the full chain precisely so clients need zero distro→parent knowledge. The middle token is the first recognized ID_LIKE ancestor (the spec orders them most-similar-first); the leaf is ID verbatim, sanitized to TXT-safe `[a-z0-9._-]` because it feeds a DNS record. Two carriers, both additive: a new advisory mDNS `os=` TXT key (same trust posture as `mac` — unauthenticated, a wrong value only draws a wrong icon), and `HostInfo.os` + `HostInfo.os_name` on the mgmt API (`os_name` is the os-release PRETTY_NAME, REST-only so the TXT stays small). GameStream serverinfo and the QUIC Welcome are untouched. api/openapi.json regenerated (drift test green on Linux) and the TS SDK gen refreshed from it — which also catches the committed gen up with earlier spec changes it had missed (monitors, native_paired_clients, encoder_backend). assets/os-icons/ gains the ten master SVG marks every client derives its per-platform art from (Font Awesome Free brands CC BY 4.0 + Simple Icons CC0 — provenance in its README), with attribution folded into THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt via the generator (regenerating also catches the stale crate manifest up with the current lockfile). feat(library): descriptive metadata on every entry — platform, year, genres, and friends
Emulation-and-beyond libraries need more than a title and a poster. Every library shape (GameEntry, CustomEntry, CustomInput, ProviderEntryInput) now carries a shared, flattened GameMeta: platform, description, developer, publisher, release_year, genres, tags, region, players. All fields are optional and flat on the wire, so existing library.json files, provider plugins, and clients keep working unchanged. - Installed-store scanners (Steam, Lutris, Heroic, Epic, GOG, Xbox) stamp platform=PC; custom/provider entries carry whatever was authored. - GET /library grows a ?platform= filter (case-insensitive) beside ?provider=. - Console: the add/edit form gets a Details section (round-tripping every field, since update replaces the entry), the poster tile a platform badge (non-PC only — the store badge already implies PC) and the year. - plugin-kit: ProviderEntry accepts the same fields (new GameMeta schema, spread flat); SDK + OpenAPI spec regenerated. - pf-client-core decodes platform for future client badges. feat(library/providers): let a provider say how to recognize its games
A plugin's titles launch through the provider's own client, which hands off and exits — so the host had nothing left to watch, and both lifetime behaviors went quiet for exactly the entries a provider contributes. A `ProviderEntry` (and a manual custom entry) may now carry an optional `detect` hint: install dir, exe, or process name. It is deliberately a subset of what the host tracks internally. A Steam appid or a launcher's environment marker are things the host discovers for itself and would be meaningless — or dangerous — to take on someone's word; where a title is installed is something only the provider knows. The host's own findings win where both exist, so a stale export can never redirect the matcher, and a blank field is treated as absent rather than as "match everything" — an empty install dir would otherwise prefix-match every process on the box, and this feature can end processes. `process_name` is the weakest of the three and the only one typed by hand, so it is matched case-insensitively against the image's file name and nothing else: `retroarch` finds RetroArch, not a helper whose name merely starts the same way, and not a script that happens to live in a `retroarch/` directory. The never-adopt-a-pre-existing-process rule still bounds it. Also: the tray summary gains the running-game row (with the closing-in countdown for a game whose client is gone — visible at the machine without opening the console), the SDK mirrors the `game.*` events, and its generated client catches up with the endpoints Phase 1 added. Gates on .21: check + clippy --all-targets clean, 299 tests, fmt CI-parity, openapi regenerated (GameEntry still carries no `detect` outbound); SDK tsc + 54 tests green. |

fix(tray): count native sessions as streaming, and stop hiding "Open web console"
The tray sat at "Idle" through an entire stream, and its Windows context menu could come up without its main action. Two separate causes. `GET /api/v1/local/summary` reported `video_streaming`/`audio_streaming` straight from `AppState.streaming` — flags only the GameStream media pipeline raises. The native punktfunk/1 plane is the DEFAULT (GameStream is opt-in) and never touches them, so every native session read as idle: idle icon, and a tooltip that printed that session's own resolution next to the word "idle" (the `session` field was already native-aware). This is the blind spot `/status` was fixed for — see the `session_status` module doc — which the summary kept. Both flags now OR in a live native session, and the tray additionally treats a reported session as streaming, so a new tray reads an older host correctly too. The menu built "Open web console" (and the pairing entry) only while a live loopback probe of the console had just succeeded. A console still starting, or an SSR render slower than the 2 s probe timeout, therefore deleted the tray's most-wanted action outright — indistinguishable from a tray that never had one, with left-clicking the icon as the only, undiscoverable, way in. The entry is now always present and the default item; a failed probe changes its label to "(not responding)" instead of hiding it, and takes two consecutive misses to say so, since one timeout is not "down". While here: a "Release kept display…" entry when displays are held (the summary field's own doc promised a one-click release that did not exist), and entries deep-link to /pairing and /displays instead of all landing on the dashboard. feat(store): console plugin store, index repo, and the fixes on-glass found
Console: a Plugins section (Browse / Installed / Sources) on a static nav entry, with install friction proportional to trust — a plain confirm for a verified entry, a warning naming the curator for an external one, and a danger dialog that makes you retype the spec for a raw package. Tier badges are permanent and follow the plugin onto its own UI page. Index: unom/punktfunk-plugin-index published and served from Gitea's raw endpoint (real HTTPS, byte-exact, no vhost to stand up) — merge to main is publish, which resolves the design's open hosting question. Four things only running it could find: - runner discovery matched @punktfunk/plugin-* only, so a third-party scoped plugin (which D8 requires) would install and never run - ...and that convention also matches @punktfunk/plugin-kit, a plugin's own framework: it listed as installed and would have been imported as a unit. Both now key off the plugins dir's top-level dependencies, with an emptied dependency list meaning 'nothing installed' rather than falling back to the naming convention - the store must not pass new flags to the runner: the scripting package ships separately and an older one reads an unknown flag's value as a package name. The host writes the bunfig scope mapping itself - ureq reports only >= 400 as Err, so a conditional request's 304 arrives as Ok with an empty body — handled as an error it made every refresh after the first verify a signature over zero bytes and sit stale Also: the console's first Tabs use exposed an @unom/ui theme gap that rendered inactive tabs invisible (caught in a browser pass, not by types). feat(sdk): Effect v4 + @effect/openapi-generator; typed pf.api & example ladder
Drop Orval for the first-party @effect/openapi-generator (OpenAPI 3.1 -> Effect Schema + a typed HttpClient client) and bump effect 3.19 -> 4.0.0-beta.98. Port the hand-written surfaces to the v4 API (Result over Either, Context.Service, Codec, Literals/Union arrays, Stream/Schedule/ Effect renames). Transport (CA-pinning fetch) and the reconnecting SSE source are kept intact. Make the SDK approachable for non-Effect users: - Add pf.api.* on the Promise facade: the generated client surfaced as typed, Promise-native methods (await pf.api.listPairedClients()), so REST calls are autocompleted and checked instead of stringly-typed pf.request(method, path, body) + `as` casts. Zero-drift veneer over make(httpClient), backed by the same pinning fetch. pf.request stays as the untyped escape hatch. - Re-tier examples into a 1-4 complexity ladder, rewritten onto pf.api.* (the typed payloads caught a wrong `launch` shape in provider-sync); the Effect example is labelled advanced. feat(host/library): external provider API — declarative reconcile (M4)
External game-library providers become first-class (RFC §8): a plugin
computes its desired title list and PUTs it — the host owns the diff.
- CustomEntry gains `provider` + `external_id` (API-set only; never on
manual entries). GameEntry surfaces `provider` for console attribution
and the new `GET /library?provider=` filter.
- PUT /api/v1/library/provider/{p}: atomic declarative reconcile keyed
on the provider's `external_id` — host ids stay stable across syncs,
orphans drop, manual entries and other providers are never touched,
an empty array clears the set. Validated: provider id [a-z0-9._-]
(`manual` reserved), unique non-empty external_ids.
- DELETE /api/v1/library/provider/{p}: clean uninstall, returns the
removed count.
- Ownership is unambiguous both ways: manual CRUD now returns 409 for a
provider-owned entry (MutateOutcome::ProviderOwned) instead of letting
an edit be silently clobbered at the next sync.
- library.changed now carries the mutating source (`manual` or the
provider id) — hooks and the SDK filter on it.
- Spec + SDK schemas regenerated; sdk/examples/provider-sync.ts is the
provider-plugin skeleton.
347 host tests green (pure reconcile: stable ids, orphan drop,
idempotence, bystanders untouched; name/payload validation; route 400s)
+ 11 SDK tests. Live-verified end to end THROUGH the SDK against a real
host: sync → filtered list → manual-delete 409 → re-sync with stable id
+ orphan drop → uninstall (removed=2), with three
library.changed(source=romm) events observed on the live stream.

feat(sdk): @punktfunk/host — the Effect TypeScript SDK (M3)
New top-level sdk/ package (RFC §7): a typed management-API client plus the lifecycle event stream, built on Effect, two surfaces over one core: - @punktfunk/host — the Promise facade front door: connect() resolves URL/token/TLS pin from the host's own files (zero config on the box), fails fast on bad credentials, pf.events.on() with typed callbacks (exact kinds, domain.* prefixes, "*", "dropped", "unknown"), pf.request() for the REST surface. Effect never required. - @punktfunk/host/effect — the PunktfunkHost service + PunktfunkHostLive layer, Stream-based events()/eventsRaw(), typed errors (AuthError | ApiError | TransportError | VersionSkew — a 2xx that fails its schema is a typed skew, not undefined later), and every wire shape as an effect/Schema: REST generated via orval client:'effect' from api/openapi.json (S3 spike: works well; the text/event-stream payload is out of its reach), events hand-mirrored from the host's snapshot-tested wire format as a kind-discriminated union. One reconnecting SSE core under both surfaces: spec-shaped parser, exponential+jittered backoff (capped, resets after a healthy connection), Last-Event-ID resume, 401 terminal. Default is LIVE tail only — a fresh notify script must not re-fire on the host's replayed ring (since: 0 opts into full replay). TLS: the pin trusts exactly the host's self-signed identity cert (chain-verified; hostname check waived — the cert is deliberately CN-only for fingerprint pinning). Bun via fetch tls, Node via an undici dispatcher (optionalDependency). definePlugin() accepts both main shapes (async fn | Effect requiring PunktfunkHost). Examples in both styles; README carries the compat contract + systemd/Task Scheduler templates. 11 bun tests green (wire decode against the Rust snapshot strings, SSE parser/reconnect/Last-Event-ID/401, both surfaces vs a mock host). Live-verified against a real host on Bun AND Node through the pinned loopback hop: connect → REST mutate → live event received → resume cursor advanced; a wrong CA is rejected. npm publish + CI wiring deferred (npm org = RFC open question 1).
