The stats overlay was the visible half of a general problem: nine of the
client's settings had a row here and twenty didn't, so a Deck that never
sees a desktop could not reach its own decoder, chroma, HDR, audio
layout, echo cancellation, touch or mouse model, scroll direction,
auto-wake, or either audio endpoint. Everything the store holds is here
now — except the two things a plugin backend genuinely cannot answer,
named in `backend.ts` so the next reader doesn't go looking: which
physical pad is player 1 (SDL's live device list lives in the client
process, and no CLI enumerates it) and the session's remembered window
size, which is not a preference.
Thirty rows is too many to scroll past on a thumbstick, so they are
split across a `SidebarNavigation` — the left-rail-of-categories layout
SteamOS's own Settings uses, and the one Deck users already know. Every
page fits on screen without scrolling, which is the point: the rail is
the index, so nothing is more than one hop away. The categories, their
order and the wording of the rows are the console settings screen's — it
is the other settings editor reachable without leaving Gaming Mode, and
two different orders for one store is how people stop trusting either.
It shows them as one steppable list because it has no pointer and no
room for a rail; here they become the rail's pages. The six pages take
one shared settings object rather than each holding state, so a change
on one is visible on the others the moment you switch.
Three more rules:
- A dependent setting is INDENTED under what it depends on and DISABLED,
never hidden: mic device and echo cancellation under the microphone,
controller type under forwarding. The console dims those rows for the
same reason, and a row that vanishes as you toggle the one above it is
a moving target for a thumbstick. The device row at the foot of Audio
is rendered even while it reads, for that reason.
- A picker with nothing to pick doesn't appear: the GPU row shows up
only where the enumeration found more than one adapter, so it is
absent on a Deck and present on a Bazzite desktop with a dGPU.
- A setting that behaves differently HERE says so in its own
description rather than being dropped. Capture system shortcuts holds
nothing back under gamescope; fullscreen-on-stream can't lose to a
launch that always passes `--fullscreen`; the client's library toggle
isn't this plugin's browser. Each says which.
The device pickers are real, not stubs: `list_devices` reads
`--list-adapters` and `--list-audio` off the SESSION binary, the same
two enumerations the GTK shell shells out for because it links no Vulkan
itself. It is cached for the life of the backend (that call inits Vulkan
and PipeWire) with an explicit Refresh for the headset you just plugged
in, and a failure — a client too old to ship the session binary — leaves
the pickers on Automatic and says so instead of claiming you have no
devices. `_parse_audio_endpoints` is split out and unit-tested with the
malformed lines that must never reach a picker.
Two smaller honesty fixes fall out of building it. A Dropdown can only
display a value that is one of its options, and this store has four
other writers — so a stored value the table doesn't list is carried as
its own entry rather than rendering blank or, worse, showing a different
value than the stream will use. And a stored audio endpoint that isn't
currently connected keeps a "(not connected)" entry, the way the Linux
picker keeps "(not detected)", instead of silently re-pointing the next
stream at the default.
The Settings tab's wrapper deliberately stops being a scroll area: a
SidebarNavigation given an indefinite height to fill collapses its rail,
so the pane hands it the full height and keeps its hands off the
overflow, and the footer inset moves inside the pages.
The docs claimed nine things about this plugin that are no longer true,
and three about the console home that stopped being true when its own
row set grew on 2026-07-31 (4:4:4, echo cancellation, auto-wake and the
library toggle are all there in `screens/settings.rs`). Both corrected.

Ship a Steam Input controller layout (controller_config/punktfunk.vdf) whose
always-on `ts_n` command enables native touchscreen delivery on the Deck, and
have the backend auto-install it (apply_controller_config: copy to
controller_base/templates + upsert the per-account configset entry, chown to the
user, back up first). This is what makes the Deck touchscreen reach the client
as native touch under gamescope without disabling Steam Input (impossible on the
Deck) — no manual controller setup.
Two shortcuts sharing the "Punktfunk" name (so one config key covers both): a
hidden stateful stream entry and a visible stateless entry that launches straight
into the gamepad UI. Both get full artwork (grid/gridwide/hero/logo/icon,
replaced with exported PNGs). Drop the art-generation script.

Decky client batch:
- Pinned games / library picker: per-host game grid (GamePickerModal),
pin/unpin, one-tap streams surfaced on the Hosts tab and QAM
(usePins/streamPin/resolvePinHost, new src/library.tsx).
- Self-update + client-update plumbing (main.py check_update, hooks.ts
applyUpdate) with a CA-bundle-resolving SSL context and per-channel
manifest polling; steam.ts / punktfunkrun.sh launch tweaks.
- scripts/test-backend.py harness for the backend RPCs; README refresh.
Fix: the fullscreen page wrapped <Tabs> in an overflow-visible box, so
Valve's L1/R1 tab slide + autoFocusContents scrollIntoView panned
#GamepadUI itself — the whole Steam UI slid left until a tab was clicked.
Clip the Tabs wrapper (overflow:hidden), matching Valve's own Tabs
containers. (On-glass verification pending — Deck offline this session.)

- The "Punktfunk" shortcut is no longer hidden: it now ships committed
artwork (grid/wide/hero/logo/icon, generated by scripts/gen-steam-art.py
— a pure-stdlib SDF renderer drawing the lens mark + a monoline
"punktfunk" wordmark) applied via SetCustomArtworkForApp /
SetShortcutIcon. Existing installs are unhidden and re-arted once per
ART_VERSION; relaunching the library entry streams to the last host.
- Updates cover the flatpak CLIENT too: check_update compares the
user-scope installed commit against its remote, applyUpdate runs
`flatpak update --user` first (awaited) and the plugin reinstall —
which reloads the panel — last; docs spell out the sudo-less --user
update ("sudo flatpak update" silently skips per-user installs).
- Fullscreen page: DialogButton stretches to 100% width in the gamepad
UI, so the Stream/Pair/Refresh/… actions filled whole rows — sized to
content + right-aligned now; the header drops its Update button (About
tab + QAM banner keep the flow) and the back button gets a real 40px
hit target.
- Settings: the disable-Steam-Input note also shows for Automatic — on a
Deck that now forwards the built-in controller as a Steam Deck pad
(paddles/trackpads/gyro), which needs Steam Input off for the shortcut.

The plugin was a QAM launcher whose stream never appeared, with no
pairing. Three fixes, plus a headless --pair mode on the GTK client:
- Stream actually starts (MoonDeck's proven mechanism): gamescope only
focuses the process tree Steam launched via reaper, so a flatpak
spawned from the (root) backend is invisible. The frontend now
registers ONE hidden non-Steam shortcut pointing at bin/punktfunkrun.sh,
passes the host as the shortcut's Steam launch options, and starts it
with SteamClient.Apps.RunGame — gamescope then fullscreen-focuses it.
The wrapper execs `flatpak run io.unom.Punktfunk --connect <host>`.
- Fullscreen page: routerHook.addRoute("/punktfunk") — host list,
per-host Pair/Stream, and a settings section (resolution/refresh/
bitrate/gamepad/mic, written to client-gtk-settings.json).
- Pairing: a gamepad-navigable PIN keypad. The host shows the PIN; the
backend runs the SPAKE2 ceremony headlessly via the client's new
`--pair <PIN> --connect host` CLI mode (app.rs), persisting the host
as paired so the stream then connects silently. Same flatpak =>
shared identity store, verified live (ceremony against a real host).
- Backend (main.py): discover / pair / runner_info / get_settings /
set_settings / kill_stream; uses DECKY_USER_HOME so paths resolve to
the deck user's flatpak install regardless of the plugin's root flag.
CI (decky.yml) and the sideload packager now ship bin/punktfunkrun.sh.
The Steam-shortcut launch and headless-pairing env follow MoonDeck
exactly but need a Deck in Gaming Mode to fully confirm.

Ship the punktfunk Linux client to the Steam Deck as a Flatpak — the only viable
SteamOS install path, since /usr is read-only and lacks libadwaita/SDL3 — and
publish both it and the Decky plugin through Gitea. Built and validated live on a
Steam Deck (SteamOS 3.7): bundle installs user-scope, all libs resolve, libavcodec
resolves to the codecs-extra HEVC build, devices=all for DualSense hidraw.
packaging/flatpak (new):
- io.unom.Punktfunk.yml on GNOME 50 / freedesktop-sdk 25.08. rust-stable//25.08
(rustc 1.96 — the GTK4 chain needs >=1.92; the EOL GNOME-48/24.08 rust-stable at
1.89 could not build it) + llvm20 (libclang for bindgen in ffmpeg-sys-next/sdl3-sys).
HEVC libavcodec comes from the runtime's auto codecs-extra extension point (no
app-side codec declaration). Bundled SDL3 3.4.10 (matches sdl3-sys 0.6.6+SDL-3.4.10).
finish-args: wayland/fallback-x11, --device=all (GPU/VAAPI + evdev + hidraw — flatpak
cannot bind /dev/hidrawN char devices via --filesystem), pulseaudio, network,
~/.config/punktfunk.
- metainfo.xml, desktop, square SVG icon, build-flatpak.sh (offline cargo-sources;
on-Deck org.flatpak.Builder or CI), README.
clients/decky:
- add LICENSE (MIT), fix package.json license (BSD-3-Clause -> Apache-2.0 OR MIT),
add scripts/{package.sh,deploy.sh} (the plugins dir is root-owned: stage to /tmp,
sudo install, restart plugin_loader), align the launcher fallback to the real
flatpak app id io.unom.Punktfunk, rewrite the install section.
.gitea/workflows:
- flatpak.yml: privileged Fedora container builds the bundle and publishes to the
Gitea generic registry (+ release attachment on tags).
- decky.yml: pnpm build -> store-layout zip -> registry (stable latest/ URL for
Decky "install from URL").
