Three things were wrong with the host-card OS icons.
The Windows mark was Font Awesome 5's, which is still the Windows 8/10 flag
with the perspective skew — dated next to the flat four-pane mark Microsoft
has shipped since Windows 11. No icon set has the current one (Simple Icons
carries no windows/microsoft slug at all), so it is drawn here: four equal
squares at the authentic 11.377 + 1.246 proportion. The Decky plugin was
pulling FaWindows straight from react-icons, so it now inlines the masters
like the web console does, or it would have kept the old flag regardless.
Bazzite, CachyOS and Nobara collapsed onto their family's mark. The host
already advertises the full chain, so this is purely missing art: all three
now ship a leaf mark, because "a Bazzite box" and "a Fedora box" are
different machines to the person reading the card. CachyOS and Nobara come
from Simple Icons; Bazzite has no icon anywhere, so its "b" is lifted out of
the project's own badge (Apache-2.0, attributed).
On Android every non-square mark was stretched. A VectorPainter maps the
viewport onto the ImageVector's default size with independent x and y
scales, so declaring a 448x512 Tux as 24x24 dp squashed it — silently, no
crash, no warning. The longest viewport edge now sets the 24 dp box and the
other follows the ratio, which is what Icon()'s ContentScale.Fit expects.
A unit test pins the invariant; every other client was already correct.
Also: scripts/gen-os-icons.sh replaces the undocumented hand-run pipeline
that turns a master into the GTK symbolic SVG, the Windows PNG and the Apple
template PDF. It reproduces the committed artifacts byte-identically.
Verified: web and Decky typecheck, Decky bundles, Android compiles and its
tests pass, PunktfunkKit builds, osinfo's tests pass. Not verified on glass,
and the GTK/Windows client crates do not build on macOS.

The client half of the host's new `os=` advert, shared once in pf-client-core:
`sanitize_os` (mDNS is unauthenticated input — lowercase `[a-z0-9._-]` tokens,
capped) and `os_icon_tokens`, the most-specific-first walk with the brand
aliases (`macos`→apple, `steamos`→steam) every platform resolves through.
`DiscoveredHost` carries the chain, `KnownHost` persists it (`serde(default)`,
elided when empty — older stores load unchanged and older clients read back
exactly what they wrote), `upsert` moves it only when carried, and `learn_os`
mirrors `learn_mac` — no-op, no disk write when unchanged — so the mark
survives the host going to sleep.
GTK shells: the card's status row leads with a recolorable symbolic glyph.
That needed real embedded assets — the shells had none — so `data/` gains the
ten `pf-os-*-symbolic` SVGs compiled into a gresource (new build.rs,
glib-build-tools) and registered on the icon theme at startup; the Adwaita
theme then tints them like every other status glyph.
WinUI shell: reactor renders raster-from-URI only, so the embedded mid-gray
PNGs (legible on both themes) materialize once into
%LOCALAPPDATA%\punktfunk\os-icons\ — the library's poster-art pattern — and
the tile's status row leads with a 16px image.
The couch UI plumbs `HostRow.os` (live advert preferred, else the store) for a
Skia glyph that is a declared follow-up; `--list-hosts` / `hosts --json` emit
the stored chain so the Decky plugin can read it. A host that advertises no
`os` renders everywhere exactly as it did before the field existed.

Four things from driving it.
**Reverting one row rebuilt the whole dialog.** It closed and reopened to re-render, which
animated the entire surface for a one-row change and dropped the user back on the General
page — a heavy, disorienting answer to "undo this". A reset now clears the field, puts that
one control back to the inherited value, and drops the marker, all in place. Doing that
needs the programmatic change not to read as a touch (it would instantly re-create the
override the reset just removed), so `Touched` gained a suspend flag the revert holds; and
it needs the seed pass and the revert to agree on where each picker sits, so that index
maths is now one shared `index` module instead of two copies drifting apart.
**Hidden markers still held their space.** The dot and reset were built invisible and
revealed on touch, but an invisible prefix still costs its slot, so every un-overridden row
carried a dot's worth of inset and the column read as misaligned. They are built lazily
now — the row has nothing until it has an override.
**The colour swatches squeezed their own label.** Nine of them as an ActionRow suffix left
the title unreadable; squeezing the label to fit the control is backwards. They get a
full-width row with the caption above and a wrapping FlowBox beneath (and not a homogeneous
one, which stretched 26px circles into rounded rectangles).
**The card menu had grown to eleven entries and three submenus** — the useful ones
(connect, library, speed) buried in list management. Two rules thin it: anything that
CONFIGURES the host moves to the edit sheet, which is where you already go to change its
name; and what remains is sectioned, so a glance lands on the right third instead of
scanning eleven similar lines. The default profile and the pinned cards are properties of
the record, so they now live in the sheet — pins as a switch per profile — and the menu
keeps "Connect with", the things you look at, the two link actions, and host management.

Three things found by actually driving the client.
**The marker didn't appear until you reopened the dialog.** It was rendered once, at build
time, from the stored overlay — so changing a setting inside a profile looked like it did
nothing. The design says touching a control creates the override and the marker appears
immediately, and it has to: a user who changes a row and sees no acknowledgement has no
reason to believe it took. Every profileable row now builds its dot and reset hidden, and
the same handler that records the touch reveals them. Resetting a row touched in the same
sitting also un-touches it, so the commit can't re-write what the reset just removed.
**Profiles had no colour.** `accent` has been in the schema since P0 and nothing could set
it, which left every chip the same grey — and telling profiles apart at a glance across a
grid is the entire reason chips exist. Creating a profile now picks a colour in the same
breath as its name (hunting for it afterwards is what leaves them all grey), an existing
profile has a Colour row, and host-card chips are tinted with it. A palette of eight rather
than a free picker: legibility across light and dark is the job, and the schema still
accepts any `#RRGGBB` a hand-edit or a future picker writes. Anything that isn't `#RRGGBB`
is refused rather than interpolated into CSS, and each distinct colour registers one
display-wide rule (per-widget providers are gone since GTK 4.10).
**4:4:4 had no switch anywhere but Apple.** `VIDEO_CAP_444` has been on the wire for a
while with only `punktfunk-probe`'s env var to set it. It is now a setting — and a
profileable one, which is the point: full chroma is what makes small text and thin UI lines
crisp, so a "Work" profile wants it where "Game" usually doesn't. The host still gates it
on its own policy, HEVC, and a GPU that can actually encode it; advertising only says "I
can decode this and I want it".

D1's last Linux piece (design/client-deep-links.md §5). The shortcut is a CONTAINER FOR A
URL, not a second launch mechanism: it invokes the client with a positional
`punktfunk://…`, the same door xdg-open and a browser prompt use. That is what makes it
survive things it has no control over — scheme registration being lost, the host moving to
a new address, the store being wiped — because the URL itself carries the stable id, the
address and the pin.
A pinned card writes its profile into the shortcut, so "Desktop · Work" on the app grid is
one double-click to that exact session. Two sanitisation points that are not cosmetic: the
filename is slugged to ASCII (a host called "Büro · Mac" must still produce a writable
name), and the `Name=` value is flattened to one line — desktop entries are line-oriented,
so a newline in a host name would end the key and turn the rest into another one.
Under flatpak the sandbox cannot write ~/.local/share/applications, so the user gets the
URL to place themselves — the fallback the design already sanctions. The
`org.freedesktop.portal.DynamicLauncher` route, which exists for exactly this and shows
its own confirmation, is the intended upgrade there and is not built yet.

Linux had "Rename" and nothing else, so two per-host settings that already existed in the
store and on the Apple and Windows clients had no surface here at all: the per-host
clipboard opt-in, and now the profile binding. A Linux user could not turn on a feature
they were already paying the storage for.
The sheet holds exactly the things that are properties of the HOST rather than of the
stream — its name, whether this machine shares its clipboard with it, and which settings
profile a plain click uses. A binding whose profile was deleted reads as "Default
settings" and is cleaned up on save, which is the same "dangling resolves as none" rule
the connect path follows.
The menu entry becomes "Edit…", and the function and message follow: a `rename_dialog`
that opens an "Edit Host" sheet is exactly the drift that confuses the next reader.
Pinning stays in the card menu rather than doubling as a list of toggles here — one place
to pin is enough, and it is the place you are already looking when you decide to.

Two WP3 pieces.
**Speed test (§5.3).** Measuring the slow retro box downstairs used to re-tune the
desktop upstairs: Apply always wrote the GLOBAL bitrate, which the design calls the
sharpest existing symptom of the missing feature. It now writes the layer that host
actually resolves bitrate from — the bound profile's override if it has one, the global
if the host is unbound. A bound host whose profile inherits bitrate could legitimately
mean either, so it gets both buttons instead of a guess. The target depends only on the
host, so it is resolved before the test finishes and the button says where it will write
("Set in “Game”"). A one-off (a pinned card's profile) wins over the binding, and a
dangling binding falls back to the global — the same precedence a connect uses.
**Copy link.** Host and pinned cards can copy their own `punktfunk://` URL — the
self-emitted form carrying the stable id *and* host+fp, so a link pasted into a Playnite
entry or a Stream Deck macro still resolves after the host re-addresses or the store is
wiped. A pinned card copies its profile with it, which is the whole point of pinning it.

§5.2a: a profile you reach for regularly shouldn't live behind a context menu. Pinning
one puts *Desktop · Work* in the grid next to *Desktop*, and clicking it is a plain
one-click connect with that profile.
The pin is presentation state on the host record — `pinned_profiles`, which has been in
the store since P0 and unused until now. Deliberately NOT a duplicated host entry: that
would fork pairing, WoL MACs and renames, and every host-level action would then need a
"which card owns this" rule. So a pinned card is the same record rendered again with a
profile attached: it shares the host's live status because it reads the same record, and
a pin whose profile was deleted simply doesn't render.
What each card offers follows from what it is. The primary card keeps the host actions
and gains "Pin as card ▸" (listing only profiles not already pinned; "Default settings"
isn't pinnable — the primary card is that). A pinned card offers the one-offs and its own
removal, and deliberately not pair/rename/forget — it is a shortcut, not a second host,
and offering destructive host actions there would blur the distinction. One action serves
both directions: which kind of card it sits on decides whether it pins or unpins.
Verified on .21: a host bound to "Game" renders its primary card with a neutral Game chip
and, right after it, the pinned "Work" card with an accent chip, both showing the same
online/paired state.

The other half of P1 on GTK (design/client-settings-profiles.md §5.2): until now a
profile could be created and edited but only *used* through `--profile` or a URL. Host
cards get two menus, and they are separate on purpose — the predictability rule is that
connecting with a profile must never change what the card does next time.
- **Connect with ▸** is a one-off. It rides `ConnectRequest.profile` into the session's
`--profile` flag and touches no stored state. "Default settings" in that menu is
`Some("")`, not `None`: on a bound host, asking for the defaults is a real choice and
has to survive as a value rather than degrade into "use the binding".
- **Default profile ▸** is the explicit rebinding act. It writes straight onto the host
record — the binding IS a field there, so there is no map to keep in step — matched by
fingerprint, else by address, like every other per-host lookup in this client.
- The card carries a **chip** naming its bound profile, so what a plain click will do is
visible without opening a menu. A binding whose profile was deleted shows nothing and
connects with the defaults, which is exactly what the resolver does.
A URL's `profile=` now takes the same one-off route, since it is the same kind of thing.
Verified on .21: `punktfunk://connect/Bound%20Box?profile=Work` against a host bound to
"Game" spawned a session that logged `profile=Work id=bbbbbbbbbbbb` — the one-off won,
and the binding on disk was untouched.

Add a bounded, trust-agnostic, mDNS-INDEPENDENT QUIC reachability probe and
surface it everywhere saved-host presence is shown, so a host reached over a
routed network (Tailscale/VPN/multicast-filtering LAN) no longer reads Offline
just because it isn't advertising — the display-side companion to the 0.8.4
dial-first connect fix.
Core:
- punktfunk-core: NativeClient::probe (bounded handshake; a real host answers even
on trust mismatch, a wrong/closed/TCP-only port fails) + punktfunk_probe C ABI
(ABI_VERSION 3->4, header regenerated).
- pf-client-core: trust::probe_reachable_many (parallel per-host sweep).
Presence pips now read `advertising OR probed-reachable`, refreshed by a ~10-12s
background sweep off the UI thread:
- Linux (relm4): ui_hosts probed map + HostsMsg::Probed sweep.
- Windows (windows-reactor): pf-probe worker -> HostsProps.probed.
- Apple (SwiftUI): HostStore.refreshReachability, driven by HomeView + GamepadHomeView .task.
- Android (Compose): nativeProbe JNI seam + periodic LaunchedEffect (LNP-gated),
online dot added to the touch HostCard.
- Decky already probes via --list-hosts --probe.
Decky client: make the flatpak client's known-hosts store the single source of
truth via new headless CLI modes (--list-hosts / --add-host / --set-host /
--forget-host / --reset / --reachable). The plugin can now add a host by address,
edit/forget hosts, reset all state (keeping the client identity), and shows
probe-backed online pips — state is shared with the desktop client, not duplicated.
Also lands in-progress Android 17 LNP groundwork (targetSdk 37 +
ACCESS_LOCAL_NETWORK runtime flow, permission dialogs) that was already present in
the working tree.
Verified: cargo check + clippy clean (punktfunk-core, pf-client-core, linux,
android native); android assembleDebug BUILD SUCCESSFUL; decky typecheck + rollup
build clean; probe true/false-positive behaviour exercised against a live host.
Windows and Apple were not compiled locally (no MSVC/Xcode on this Linux box).

A saved host that stopped advertising on mDNS but has a learned Wake-on-LAN
MAC was routed into a wake-and-WAIT-for-mDNS flow instead of being dialed. For
a host reached over a routed network (Tailscale/VPN/another subnet) mDNS never
sees it, so the wait could never succeed and reconnects were impossible — the
host log showed no connection attempt at all. The tile's Offline pip and this
connect gate shared the same LAN-only `advertises`/`liveAdvert` predicate, so a
perfectly reachable host read as unreachable. The first connect worked only
because the MAC hadn't been learned yet (a direct dial); once learned, every
reconnect wedged in the waker.
All four full clients carried this pattern (deliberate mirrors of the Apple
`HostWaker`). Each now DIALS FIRST: fire the magic packet up front
(fire-and-forget — harmless if the host is awake, and a genuinely-asleep box is
booting while the dial times out) and attempt the connection unconditionally.
Only a FAILED dial falls into the visible "Waking…" wait, whose redial carries
no fallback so it can't loop. A fingerprint-mismatch/trust-rejection failure
means the host ANSWERED, so it never takes the wake path.
- apple: SessionModel.connect gains `onUnreachable`; startSession dials first.
- linux (relm4): AppMsg::WakeConnect wakes+dials; a per-request wake_fallback
is armed and consumed in SessionExited, matched by fingerprint/address.
- windows: initiate_waking + ConnectOpts.wake_on_fail; the worker's Failed arm
escalates to wake_and_connect only on a non-trust failure.
- android: doConnectDirect gains onFailure; doConnect wakes+dials first.
Decky was already correct (always launches `--connect`; WoL fire-and-forget).
Explicit "Wake host" menu actions are unchanged — waiting on mDNS is right when
the user explicitly asked to wake a box.

`cargo fmt --all --check` (ci.yml) was red on main: the client re-architecture
commits and origin's windows-shortcut commit landed with rustfmt violations
(e.g. a 104-char .with_context line in hyprland.rs, an unsorted mod block in
vdisplay.rs, the input.rs `{`-placement CI flagged). Reformat the tree so the
fmt gate passes; no functional changes.

The FlowBoxChild draws the hover/selection highlight AROUND the card
(it wraps it with its own padding ring), so its default corner radius
ran visibly tighter than the card's 12px inside it. The host grids now
scope a 15px radius onto their children — card radius + the ring — so
the highlight's corners run concentric with the card's.

The GTK client becomes a relm4 component tree: AppModel owns the window,
trust gate (rules 1-3), and the spawned session child's lifecycle as
typed messages; the hosts page is a child component with a
FactoryVecDeque of host cards — the HostsCallbacks Rc<dyn Fn> bag, the
busy Cell, and the Rc<RefCell<HostsUi>> cross-page pokes are gone.
Trust/settings/library dialogs stay plain GTK, invoked from update with
a ComponentSender.
Deleted with the in-process presenter: ui_stream.rs, video_gl.rs,
ui_gamepad_library.rs, launch.rs, the khronos-egl dep, and the
PUNKTFUNK_LEGACY_PRESENTER hatch. Every stream (and the console library)
now runs in punktfunk-session; the shell spawns it for card connects and
exec's it for --connect/--browse so the Decky wrapper keeps working. The
request-access flow gains --connect-timeout + a CancelHandle that kills
the child. Screenshot scenes re-pointed onto the components (verified:
hosts + library self-capture; the dialog scenes present correctly and
capture under a GL renderer); the gamepad-library scene is gone with the
page.

`child-activated` (fired by a pointer click) was bridged to `child.activate()`
so each card's own connect handler (wired on the child's `activate` signal)
would run. But `child.activate()` runs `GtkFlowBoxChild`'s default handler,
which re-emits `child-activated` on the FlowBox — bouncing straight back into
the same closure. Unguarded, that ping-pong recursed forever, overflowing the
stack on every single host-card click or Enter-key activation (confirmed live
via coredump/gdb: 43k+ stack frames of gobject signal emission, and the
`fatal runtime error: stack overflow, aborting` in the crash log).
A re-entrancy flag breaks the cycle after the one real activation. Added a
regression test that wires the identical FlowBox/FlowBoxChild signal cycle
against a real display and asserts it returns instead of recursing — it
reproduces the exact stack overflow against the old code.

The Linux client already had WOL send + MAC storage + a Wake action + auto-wake-
on-connect, but the auto-wake just fired a packet and did one dial to the stored
address — so a host that woke on a new DHCP lease failed, and there was no
"waiting" feedback. Add the polished flow (mirrors Apple/Android HostWaker):
- ui_trust::wake_and_connect — send the magic packet, poll mDNS until the host
reappears (re-sending every 6 s, 90 s budget) behind a cancelable "Waking…"
dialog, then connect; if it woke on a new IP, re-key the saved host first.
- trust::rekey_addr — no-churn addr/port update keyed by fingerprint.
- the hosts page routes an offline saved-host-with-MAC tap to on_wake_connect
(the new flow) instead of fire-and-forget wake + immediate dial.
Builds + clippy + fmt clean.

Each client learns a host's MAC from the mDNS `mac` TXT while it's awake, persists it on the saved-host record, and — when reconnecting to an offline host — sends a magic packet before connecting, plus an explicit "Wake host" action. Apple wraps the C-ABI; linux/windows call the core fn directly (linux also gains a --wake CLI mode); android via a new nativeWakeOnLan JNI export (the mDNS browse record gains a 7th mac field); decky shells out to the linux client's --wake before launching the stream.
iOS/tvOS need the managed com.apple.developer.networking.multicast entitlement (pending Apple approval), so the wake path + UI are gated off via PunktfunkConnection.wakeOnLANAvailable and the entitlement is commented out — keeping iOS/tvOS releasable. MAC-learning stays active on every platform so it lights up the moment it's ungated. macOS works today.

GTK Linux client:
- hosts/library: clicking a card was dead — the handler was on
FlowBoxChild::activate (never emitted on click); bridge child-activated
→ child.activate() on the FlowBox (ui_hosts, ui_library).
- stream: the Ctrl+Alt+Shift+D/Q/S chords (and all key forwarding) were
dropped because the key controller sat on the overlay, which loses focus
to the header back button after nav.push+fullscreen — move it to the
window and remove it on teardown.
- video: a mid-session VAAPI decode error rebuilt a software decoder but
never requested a keyframe, so under the infinite GOP the picture stayed
gray/frozen forever. Request an IDR on any VAAPI error, keep the hardware
decoder, and demote to software only after repeated failures.
- stream: fix a per-session Capture↔overlay reference cycle that leaked the
overlay subtree + the Arc<NativeClient> on every session end — hold the
overlay weakly.
- stream: accumulate the fractional wheel remainder so precision-scroll
(Deck trackpad / hi-res wheels) sub-unit deltas aren't dropped.
- gamepad library: keep the launcher smooth on the Deck — freeze the aurora
and trim the visible card range (fewer 3D offscreen passes) on low-power.
- gamepad: log full pad identity (vid:pid:name:type:virtual) on attach to
diagnose an empty controller list on the Deck.
- cli: --connect host:<badport> silently did nothing; default to 9777 + warn.
- css: add the missing .pf-neutral pill rule; fix the clipped most-recent
accent (inset outline instead of a corner-clipped box-shadow bar).
Decky plugin:
- surface the on-screen library browser: label the host-row Games button.
- fix silent pin data-loss — the detached Games modal captured a frozen
pins array, so pinning a second game clobbered the first; mirror pins in
a ref and track the modal's pinned ids locally for a live label.
- route pair-required hosts through the pairing modal from the fullscreen
Stream button (parity with the QAM panel).

- library.rs + ui_library.rs: the host's unified game library over the
management API (the Apple LibraryClient/LibraryView ported) — mTLS with the
paired identity, host verified by its pinned cert fingerprint (ureq + rustls,
unified with the workspace rustls 0.23); posters load async with monogram
placeholders, and picking a title starts a session that asks the host to
launch it (the library id rides the Hello).
- app.rs (~800 lines lighter) splits into cli.rs (argv/headless
pairing/--connect/screenshot scenes), launch.rs (mode resolve + session
worker + event stream into the UI) and ui_trust.rs (TOFU / SPAKE2 PIN /
delegated-approval dialogs); ui_hosts/ui_stream reworked around the split.

Plugin self-update (no Decky store): CI publishes a per-channel manifest.json
({version, immutable per-version artifact, sha256}) beside the zip and bakes
update.json {channel, manifest} into the plugin. main.py `check_update` reads the
installed version from package.json (the value Decky reports — not plugin.json),
fetches the channel manifest, and the frontend shows an "Update to vX" button that
drives Decky Loader's own install RPC (root downloads + SHA-256-verifies + hot-reloads).
CI now stamps a plain-numeric semver (0.3.<run> canary / X.Y.Z stable) into
package.json — a -ciN suffix would mis-order under compare-versions.
Linux client: `--fullscreen` (plus SteamDeck/gamescope env fallback) enters GTK
fullscreen on stream start so Gaming-Mode chrome is hidden; native-mode resolution
falls back to the display's first monitor when the window isn't mapped yet (was
dropping to the 1080p floor — wrong on the Deck's 1280×800); add a confirmed
"Remove saved host" action (KnownHosts::remove_by_fp).
Docs: new docs/steam-deck.md (Decky install/pair/stream/self-update/troubleshooting),
wired into meta.json nav, and cross-linked from clients/install-client/channels. This
is the page docs.punktfunk.unom.io/docs/steam-deck — the website's download link
pointed at it before it existed; committing it makes that link resolve.

- Clients consolidated out of crates/ into clients/: punktfunk-client-rs->
clients/probe (crate punktfunk-probe), client-linux->clients/linux,
client-windows->clients/windows, punktfunk-android->clients/android/native
(crate punktfunk-client-android; kept [lib] name=punktfunk_android so the JNI
contract is unchanged). crates/ now holds only core + host.
- Milestone codes M0-M4 purged from code/CLI/CLAUDE.md/README/docs/docs-site,
kept only in docs/implementation-plan.md. docs/m2-plan.md->
docs/gamestream-host-plan.md. CI/gradle/flatpak paths updated.
Client loss-recovery (video froze and never recovered after a brief drop):
- Export punktfunk_connection_frames_dropped through the C ABI (the core already
tracked it for the client keyframe-recovery loop; it was never reachable from
the ABI clients). Regenerated punktfunk_core.h.
- Apple (StreamPump + Stage2Pipeline) and Android (decode.rs) now poll
frames_dropped and request a keyframe when it climbs -- the same loss-driven
recovery Linux/Windows already had. Under infinite GOP the decoder silently
conceals reference-missing frames, so the decode-error trigger rarely fires.
Apple rumble robustness (worked then went spotty -- DualSense + Xbox):
- Add CHHapticEngine stopped/reset handlers (rebuild on app background / audio
interruption / server reset) and drop the permanent `broken` latch on a
transient drive failure; latch only when the controller truly has no haptics.
- Surface swallowed SDL set_rumble errors on Linux/Windows + diagnostic logging.
Verified: cargo build/clippy/fmt --workspace, C-ABI harness, header drift.
Not runnable on this box (verify in CI): Gitea workflows, gradle/Android,
flatpak, Swift/decky.
