fix(client/deps): ring-only rustls in pf-client-core — finish dropping aws-lc-sys
Companion to the host ring fix: pf-client-core declared rustls with features=["ring"] but WITHOUT default-features=false, so rustls's default aws-lc-rs backend came along too (feature tree: aws-lc-rs <- rustls default <- pf-client-core default) — pulling aws-lc-sys 0.41.0 into the Windows client + session + presenter builds, the same C dep that fails on the CI runner. Pin default-features=false + [ring, logging, std, tls12] (matching the tray/host/core pattern). aws-lc-sys now gone from EVERY windows-built crate (host, client-windows, client-session, tray — all 'cargo tree -i aws-lc-sys' => no match). Code already used rustls::crypto::ring::default_provider (library.rs); no behaviour change. Validated: cargo tree (all 4 windows crates aws-lc-free) + .21 clippy -D warnings (pf-client-core, pf-presenter, punktfunk-client-session) clean. |

perf(latency): tier-0 attribution + tier-1 send-path levers from the latency plan
design/latency-reduction-2026-07.md T0.1/T0.2/T1.2/T1.3:
- T1.2 rate-capped front-loaded pacing: the paced overflow's budget is now
min(0.9x slack, overflow wire time at ~3x the live encoder bitrate)
(PUNKTFUNK_PACE_FACTOR, 0 = legacy deadline-only spread). A 300 KB-1 MB
frame's tail leaves in ~2-5 ms instead of smearing across ~15 ms at 60 fps;
GameStream schedule byte-identical (pins unchanged).
- T1.3 data-first wire order: packetize emits every block's data shards before
any parity (per-block parity pools keep all blocks' parity alive for the
second pass), so lossless completion stops waiting behind the parity tail.
EOF = last emitted packet; receiver already order-agnostic.
- T0.1 staged 0xCF: HostTiming gains an append-extensible per-stage tail
(queue/encode/pace us; seal+channel-wait derived as residual) - no cap bit
needed, old peers read the 13-byte prefix. Joined client-side into
Stats::host_{queue,encode,xfer,pace}_ms, the OSD detailed tier, and the
probe's report.
- T0.2 true on-glass present timing: VK_KHR_present_id/present_wait enabled
when supported; a PresentTimer waiter thread resolves each present id to
real visibility, replacing the submit-time display stamp (which undercounts
by up to a refresh and hides a silent-FIFO standing queue).
Validated on .21: core 185 + host 185 tests, pf-presenter 19, clippy
-D warnings across all five touched crates; loss-harness recovery curve
unchanged; C ABI harness round-trips.

feat(clients): render-scale setting on every client — shared punktfunk_core::render_scale
Client-side supersampling/downscaling: the client asks the host to render and encode at chosen-resolution × scale (the host does no scaling) and the presenter rescales the decoded frame to the display. >1 supersamples for sharpness; <1 lightens the host GPU and the link. Default 1.0 = Native, the prior behavior. The geometry lives once in punktfunk_core::render_scale (multiply, preserve aspect ratio, floor to even, clamp to the codec's per-axis ceiling — 4096 for H.264, 8192 otherwise), the Rust twin of the Apple client's RenderScale.swift, consumed by the native session client, the presenter's match-window path, the Windows/Linux settings UIs, Decky, and Android (settings + host connect + unit test). Implemented and platform-verified by the Apple-client-features session (Linux+Android+Apple green there); the punktfunk-core wiring (pub mod render_scale) is restored here after being lost in a working-tree reconciliation. feat(core, clients): one rumble policy engine for every platform (rumble root fix D)
punktfunk-core client/rumble.rs: a per-connection policy engine consumes seq-gated wire
updates and emits EFFECTIVE actuator commands — re-emits on renewals (duration APIs stay
re-armed), self-silences at the v2 lease, a UNIFORM 1 s legacy-host staleness replacing the
per-platform zoo (Apple 1.6 s / Android 60 s / SDL 1.5 s / Deck 1 s), quirk-declared
actuator keepalives (Deck 40 ms + LSB dedupe-defeat jitter), and one stop per buzzing pad
on connection close. Per-pad mailbox semantics: a stalled embedder wakes to ONE current
command, and a stop can structurally never be the update an overflowing queue drops.
New API/ABI: NativeClient::{next_rumble_command,set_rumble_quirks} +
punktfunk_connection_next_rumble_cmd/_set_rumble_quirks (next_rumble/next_rumble2 stay for
un-migrated embedders; both consumers are fed). Migrations DELETE the platform forks:
pf-client-core loses RumbleState + the Deck keepalive loop + LEGACY_RUMBLE_CEILING_MS and
physically silences a slot at close; Android loses the 60 s legacy one-shot (backstop
repack, cancel-on-zero); Apple loses envelopeDeadline + sessionStaleSeconds + both tick
watchdogs (CoreHaptics realization untouched; mac xcframework rebuilt locally).
design/rumble-root-fix.md par. D. Engine 10/10 unit tests; core tests 176 Linux / 175
Windows + clippy -D warnings; swift build + RumbleTuningTests; Kotlin + android-native
compile green.

refactor(client-core/W8): split video.rs into flat decoder-backend siblings
Break the 1974-line pf-client-core/src/video.rs into flat sibling modules (matching the crate's video_d3d11.rs / video_pyrowave.rs convention), leaving video.rs as the contract + Decoder dispatch facade: - video_color.rs : ColorDesc + csc_rows (the Y'CbCr->RGB matrix) - video_software.rs : the libavcodec/swscale SoftwareDecoder - video_vaapi.rs : the Linux-only VAAPI/DRM-PRIME backend (mod is cfg(linux)) - video_vulkan.rs : the FFmpeg Vulkan Video backend Every crate::video::X / video::X path stays byte-stable (ColorDesc + csc_rows re-exported from video.rs; frame POD, VulkanDecodeDevice, QueueLock, Decoder, decodable_codecs*, ffmpeg_codec_id, fourcc/drm_fourcc_for all stay in video.rs). Code-driven placements: averr, AVERROR_EAGAIN, frame_is_keyframe stay in video.rs (shared by all three decoders); DrmFrameGuard's field + drm_fourcc_for + Software/Vaapi/VulkanDecoder ctors/decode became pub(crate) (sibling access); the test module split three ways (software tests need private decoder internals). Pure move; no behavior change. Verified on Linux (home-worker-5): cargo clippy -p pf-client-core (default [pyrowave] + --no-default-features, --all-targets -D warnings) + cargo test. Windows verify BLOCKED environmentally: pf-client-core -> sdl3 build-from-source -> CMake/CL.exe fails on winbox's non-ASCII home path (fails the baseline too, independent of this split); the split's Windows surface (facade cfg(windows) bits + video_d3d11) is verbatim-preserved. refactor(core): consolidate the fingerprint-pinning verifier into core::tls
Per plan §2.5: the security-critical rustls fingerprint-pinning ServerCertVerifier was hand-rolled three times — quic/endpoint.rs (PinVerify), pf-client-core library.rs, punktfunk-tray status.rs — drifting copies on a trust boundary. Add one canonical punktfunk_core::tls::PinVerify (+ cert_fingerprint) behind a light `tls` feature (rustls + sha2 only, no QUIC runtime); `quic` now depends on it, and quic::endpoint re-exports cert_fingerprint so that path stays byte-stable (gamestream + pf-client-core reach it there). - core::tls::PinVerify: new(pin) for the HTTP clients, with_observed(pin, slot) for the QUIC TOFU connect. Behavior-identical to all three originals (pin-check + real CertificateVerify signature verification; only hashes the leaf when a pin or observed slot needs it). Two focused unit tests anchor the boundary. - quic/endpoint.rs: drop the private PinVerify, wire client_pinned through tls::PinVerify::with_observed. - pf-client-core library.rs + tray status.rs: use the shared verifier; tray also routes load_pin through core cert_fingerprint and drops its direct sha2 dep, gaining only the light core `tls` feature (still no host dep, no QUIC runtime). Verified on Linux (home-worker-5): clippy 0/0 for core(quic), core(tls), pf-client-core, tray, host(nvenc,vulkan-encode,pyrowave); core 153 lib tests + loopback 7/7 (pinned handshake) + c_abi round-trip green. chore: consolidate parallel-session WIP (HOLD — do not push)
Local snapshot of intermingled in-flight work, committed to unblock the encode
refactor (a clean ffmpeg_win.rs for the vbv-dedup follow-on). These hunks span
the same files and can't be cleanly split here; the commit bundles three
distinct workstreams that each belong in their own PR:
- logging rework (~43 files: level re-tiering, structured fields, `?e`,
hot-path flood latches)
- conflicting-host detection (detect.rs + detect/{linux,windows}.rs + wiring
in main.rs/mgmt.rs/Cargo.toml/docs/packaging)
- standby-sink DWM-stall attribution (windows/display_events.rs + capture/
vdisplay wiring)
NOT verified as a combination. NOT to be pushed until the refactor is done and
these are re-verified and reorganized into their proper per-workstream PRs.

feat(gamepad): SC2 Puck-dongle passthrough with the native 28DE:1304 topology
Community-contributed round 5 of the Steam Controller 2 passthrough, reviewed + verified. A Puck-captured pad now presents the dongle's real seven-interface identity (CDC pair, four controller HID slots, management HID) instead of relabelling its reports as a wired 1302 — Steam's Puck feature dances (wireless_transport / esb/bond / 0xB4 slot status) get capture-shaped answers, and the wired identity's canned replies are corrected to the real captures (attribute count, string-attr framing, 0xF2 firmware info, bcdDevice nibble encoding). - new wire pref 10 = SteamController2Puck (Hello/Welcome byte; older peers degrade to Auto), selected by the Android capture link when the transport is a dongle, or by VID/PID in the degraded InputDevice path - TRITON_RDESC is now the captured numbered descriptor (mouse/keyboard lizard collections + per-id vendor reports); unnumbered framing made hidraw mangle feature report 2 and Steam eventually closed the device - interrupt-IN now queues sparse reports (battery/RSSI/wireless edges) instead of keeping latest-only, so a 250 Hz state packet can no longer erase them before the USB/IP poll observes them; EP0 SET_REPORT is split by wValue report type (OUTPUT parsed for rumble vs FEATURE) - vendored usbip-sim: config attributes/max-power, IAD prefix + BOS descriptor support, correct BCD minor.patch encoding (Deck's 0x0300/ 0x0200 values are nibble-zero, so its bytes are unchanged), and full-speed interrupt pacing in ms (was 8 kHz from the HS formula) - Triton feedback is serviced at 1 kHz while an SC2 backend exists so Steam's trackpad haptic writes reach the client unbatched Verified: clippy -D warnings + 319 host tests green on Linux, core wire tests green, Android kit/app compile + unit tests green. On-glass Puck retest owed. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(host, clients): PyroWave ships in default builds; NVIDIA hosts advertise it
Flip the `pyrowave` cargo feature into the default set across punktfunk-host, pf-client-core, pf-presenter and the session client — every packaged build (flatpak, arch/rpm/copr, windows x64 client) now carries the codec. Selection stays strictly per-session opt-in: a client must pick "PyroWave (wired LAN)" in Settings (or PUNKTFUNK_PREFER_PYROWAVE=1); nothing changes for normal HEVC/AV1 sessions. The Windows ARM64 client leg builds --no-default-features and keeps skipping it (decode is Linux-native + Apple Metal today). Advertisement no longer waits for the PUNKTFUNK_ENCODER=pyrowave lab override on NVIDIA: host_wire_caps sets the bit whenever the feature is present and the host isn't the GPU-less software pref, and SessionPlan::output_format flips a PyroWave session on the NVIDIA-auto capture path to CPU RGB frames (the EGL→CUDA import only NVENC consumes; the wavelet backend ingests raw dmabufs or CPU RGB). AMD/Intel keep their raw-dmabuf zero-copy unchanged; per-session raw-dmabuf passthrough on NVIDIA (true zero-copy without the env's global capture policy) stays a follow-up. On-glass on .21 (RTX 5070 Ti, default-features binaries, NO env overrides): host advertises + negotiates PyroWave, the CPU-capture fallback engages, 60 fps at e2e 3.2-5.7 ms p50, and a mid-stream 1080p→720p resize rides on top cleanly. Workspace clippy --locked clean; 33 client + 314 host tests. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(client, host): PyroWave Apple Metal decoder + per-mode bitrate pin
- clients/apple: native Metal wavelet decoder + compute shaders (Phase 5), decoding PyroWave without embedding MoltenVK. - pf-client-core: plumb user_flags/completeness through Decoder::decode_frame so the PyroWave backend parses chunk-aligned + partial AUs; gate the param's unused-warning to exactly the non-pyrowave builds (fixes -D warnings on the featureless Linux client build). - punktfunk-host: on a mid-stream mode switch, re-resolve the "Automatic" PyroWave bitrate for the new mode's ~1.6 bpp operating point (explicit rates and H.26x ABR stay put); reject sub-128px PyroWave modes before the encoder rebuild instead of after the ack. feat(core, host, android): Steam Controller 2 as-is passthrough to Linux hosts
The 2026 Steam Controller (Valve "Ibex" / SDL "Triton") captured on an Android client is passed through AS-IS: the host presents a virtual pad with the real wired identity (28DE:1302) and mirrors the physical pad's raw HID reports, so Steam on the host drives it over hidraw exactly like the real thing — trackpads, gyro, paddles, and its rumble/settings writes flow back onto the physical controller. Protocol ground truth: SDL's Valve-maintained SDL_hidapi_steam_triton.c + steam/controller_structs.h. Core: - GamepadPref::SteamController2 (wire byte 9; names steamcontroller2/ sc2/ibex) + PUNKTFUNK_GAMEPAD_STEAMCONTROLLER2 in the C ABI. - Raw HID planes: RichInput::HidReport (0xCC/0x04, client→host input reports verbatim, Copy fixed-64 body) and HidOutput::HidRaw (0xCD/0x05, host→client feature/output writes for replay). Best-effort is sound by the device protocol's own design (rumble re-sent every ~40 ms, settings every ~3 s — losses self-heal); HidRaw bypasses hidout dedup for exactly that reason. Host (Linux): - triton_proto.rs + steam_controller2.rs: Triton2Manager UHID backend — no kernel driver binds the PID (hidraw only; Steam Input is the consumer), raw mirroring with a typed-fallback 0x42 synthesizer until the first raw report, SET_REPORT ack + raw forward, canned GET_REPORT serial reply, rumble also parsed onto the universal 0xCA plane (phone mirror). Rides the uhid + 28DE-conflict degrades; UHID promotion by Steam is flagged in the creation log (usbip transport is the known follow-up if Steam ignores Interface:-1 devices for Triton too). Android: - Sc2UsbLink (wired/Puck: vendor-interface claim detaches the OS driver, interrupt read loop, lizard-off on the watchdog cadence, raw replay via interrupt-OUT / SET_REPORT with hidapi report-id framing) and Sc2BleLink (Valve vendor GATT service, notify subscribe machine, 0x45 re-framing, HIGH connection priority). - Sc2Capture orchestrator: raw plane + typed mirror (exit chord + host degrade paths keep working) on a GamepadRouter external slot; raw return path via GamepadFeedback.onHidRaw. - nativeSendPadHidReport JNI (direct ByteBuffer, no per-report copy), hidout raw decode, usb-host/BLUETOOTH_CONNECT manifest bits, opt-out settings toggle, StreamScreen engagement incl. the USB permission flow. Verified: core 149 + host 312 tests green on Linux (.21), on-box uhid smoke creates/mirrors/tears down the virtual 28DE:1302, C ABI harness round-trips, Android compileDebugKotlin green. On-glass with the real controller owed. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(core,host,client): PyroWave datagram-aligned packets + partial-frame delivery (Phase 4, §4.4)
PyroWave AUs now packetize on the negotiated shard payload, so a lost datagram
costs a few wavelet blocks of localized blur rather than a whole frame — and the
client can render an aged-out lossy frame instead of freezing until the next one.
Host (opt-in, PyroWave only):
- The encoder packetizes at the shard payload behind a 4-byte window prefix
(used-len u16 + kind u16). Whole packets pack into WIN_PACKED windows; a packet
too large for one shard (PyroWave 32x32 blocks are atomic and can exceed a
shard) rides a WIN_FRAG_FIRST/CONT/LAST chain. `set_wire_chunking()` joins the
Encoder trait (forwarded through TrackedEncoder — the silent-no-op trap);
EncodedFrame.chunk_aligned marks the AU.
- virtual_stream tags the AU with USER_FLAG_CHUNK_ALIGNED and re-applies chunking
after every encoder (re)build, the adaptive-bitrate rebuild included.
Core:
- USER_FLAG_CHUNK_ALIGNED (0x40) wire bit. Reassembler opt-in
(set_deliver_partial): a chunk-aligned frame that ages out with holes is handed
over as Frame{complete:false} — received shards at their exact offsets, missing
ranges zero-filled — instead of being dropped. Partials age out on a tight 30ms
fuse (PARTIAL_WINDOW_NS) instead of the 120ms loss window: each frame is
independently decodable, so an ancient partial has no value in a live stream.
Newest-wins. A partial still counts as dropped for loss reporting.
Client (PyroWave decode):
- The session opts in when codec == PyroWave. The decoder walks the AU
window-by-window, skipping zero (missing) windows and reassembling FRAG chains,
then decodes whatever survived. A newest-decoded-index guard drops partials the
pump has already moved past (no time-travel present).
Also fixes a redundant-closure clippy nit in the PyroWave planar-present path.
Validated on an RTX 5070 Ti under 2% netem loss with FEC pinned off: 60fps
sustained entirely via partials, e2e 43ms p50 (146ms before the fuse) vs 23ms
lossless, no keyframe-recovery chatter. Tests green: core 149, host 310 + the
GPU-gated encoder smoke (framed-window walk + FRAG reassembly + upstream
round-trip), client 26; clippy clean on the pyrowave feature combos.

feat(core, host, clients): typed pairing rejections — every client says WHY, not "not accepted"
A host's pairing-gate rejections (not armed / bound to another device /
rate-limited / identity required / denied / approval timeout / superseded /
wire-version mismatch) used to drop the connection with a bare code-0 close,
and every client collapsed that — plus plain unreachability — into one
"wrong PIN / not accepted" message. A dead network path, a disarmed host,
and an operator denial were indistinguishable, which is exactly the
misdiagnosis behind the recent Android pairing support thread.
- core: new ungated `reject` module — shared close-code block 0x60–0x67
(+ 0x42 busy promoted from the host), `RejectReason`, and
`PunktfunkError::Rejected`; `pair()`/`connect()` decode the host's
ApplicationClosed code into `Rejected` instead of a generic Io error.
C ABI v7: status block −20…−28 and `punktfunk_connect_ex8` (`status_out`
reports the failure cause; NULL-return alone can't). Wire unchanged —
old peers see exactly the old bare close.
- host: every gate rejection `conn.close()`s with its typed code (and the
human reason as close bytes) before erroring out of the session task.
- pf-client-core: shared `pair_error_message`/`connect_reject_message`
wording consumed by the Windows + Linux + console-UI + CLI surfaces; a
connect failure now renders the host's stated reason.
- android: `nativeTakeLastError()` JNI token + `ConnectErrors.kt` — a
network timeout is no longer reported as "wrong PIN, or the host isn't
armed", and a typed rejection skips the wake-and-wait fallback (the host
is demonstrably awake).
- apple: `HostRejection` + `.rejected`; the pair sheet and session alerts
show the stated reason; connect moves to `ex8`.
Completes the cross-client half of the hunks that rode along in

feat: PyroWave Phase 3 — pinned rate, all-intra silencing, opt-in UI, notices, docs
plan §4.6 + Phase 3 productization: - Pinned bitrate: an Automatic client (bitrate 0) on a PyroWave session resolves to the codec's ~1.6 bpp operating point for the mode (≈200 Mbps at 1080p60) instead of the 20 Mbps H.26x default; explicit rates are honored. Mid-stream SetBitrate retargets are refused with the pinned rate acked (guards old/foreign clients), and the client-side AIMD controller + startup capacity probe stay off for the codec — no rate descent into wavelet mush, no climb probe whose VBV reasoning doesn't apply to hard per-frame CBR. Unit-tested. - All-intra silencing: the data plane drops drained keyframe/RFI requests on PyroWave sessions (the next frame IS the recovery), so the forced-IDR cooldown, RFI attempt, and storm coalescing never run. - Opt-in UI: 'PyroWave (wired LAN)' joins the console's Video-codec cycler; trust::Settings maps it to CODEC_PYROWAVE. Safe everywhere by the negotiation contract — an un-advertised preference falls back through the ladder. - FEC: decision recorded — adaptive FEC (10% start, loss-report driven) stays as-is for the MVP opaque-AU mode; the FEC≈0 policy belongs to the Phase-4 datagram-aligned mode. - THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES: the generator now lists third-party trees vendored inside first-party crates (pyrowave, Granite subset, volk, Vulkan-Headers) with their full license texts; file regenerated. - docs-site: 'PyroWave (wired-LAN codec)' page — what it is, the bandwidth table, how to enable it, current limits. feat(client): PyroWave session wiring — advertisement, opt-in, decoder selection (Phase 2b, part 3)
The pump now advertises decodable_codecs_for(presenter device) — the CODEC_PYROWAVE bit rides only when the device passed the compute-feature probe — and PUNKTFUNK_PREFER_PYROWAVE=1 is the Phase-2 lab opt-in that names the codec in preferred_codec (the only route resolve_codec will take it, plan §3; a Settings toggle is Phase-3 productization). A negotiated PyroWave session builds Decoder::new_pyrowave on the presenter's device instead of an FFmpeg decoder. clients/session grows the `pyrowave` feature forwarding both crate features. With this the Phase-2 client chain is code-complete: Hello bit → preference → Welcome::codec → pyrowave decode on the presenter device → planar CSC → present. On-glass .21 run + latency-probe/loss-harness numbers vs HEVC remain owed (plan Phase-2 exit criteria). feat(client): PyroWave decode backend on the presenter's device (Phase 2b, part 1)
The presenter's device creation now probes + enables the PyroWave compute feature set alongside the Vulkan Video probe (shaderInt16, storageBuffer8BitAccess, subgroup size control — gated on support, harmless when unused) and exports the facts through VulkanDecodeDevice (pyrowave_decode capability + feature bools + apiVersion + the queue- family shape). pf-client-core (feature `pyrowave`, Linux): video_pyrowave.rs — the decoder runs pyrowave compute on the PRESENTER's own VkDevice, zero interop (plan §4.5): pinned content-equivalent create-info reconstruction satisfies pyrowave 0.4.0's lifetime rule without refactoring the presenter's creation; queue access rides the existing device-wide QueueLock (the FFmpeg/Skia contract); decode records into our command buffer, fence-synchronous (sub-ms), into a 4-deep ring of 3xR8 plane sets (decode REQUIRES storage usage + identity swizzles, so the encoder's RG8 trick doesn't apply). Backend::PyroWave + DecodedImage::PyroWave + Decoder::new_pyrowave + decodable_codecs_for (advertisement gated on the device probe) wired through the decode dispatch; no demote ladder (nothing else decodes it — fallback is session renegotiation, plan §4.6). Still to come for a live session: the presenter's planar-CSC render path for the new variant, pump/shell opt-in (preferred_codec) wiring, and the on-glass .21 run. Validated on .21: pf-client-core + pf-presenter compile with and without the feature, clippy clean, 26 client-core tests green. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

VAAPI-first on desktop RADV (

46b7ffc001 |
fix(client): Linux auto decoder tries VAAPI before FFmpeg-Vulkan on desktop Mesa
Mesa now exposes Vulkan Video decode queues by default (and the session binary opts RADV in for the Deck's sake), which silently moved every desktop AMD/Intel box onto FFmpeg-Vulkan-on-Mesa under `auto` — user-reported (CachyOS/KDE) to judder or error-streak into the software demotion while an explicit VAAPI pick streams perfectly. Auto's hardware order is now device-aware (`VulkanDecodeDevice::prefer_vulkan_over_vaapi`, fed vendor id + device name by the presenter): Vulkan-first stays only where it is the established right answer — NVIDIA (no usable VAAPI) and the Deck's VanGogh (VAAPI dmabuf import chroma-fringes) — and everything else gets the battle-tested zero-copy VAAPI first, with Vulkan as its fallback. A mid-session Vulkan failure streak now also demotes to VAAPI before software, so a broken Mesa Vulkan path can never strand a box with a perfectly good VAAPI driver on CPU decode. The GTK shell's decoder setting gains the missing "Vulkan Video" option (values now mirror the console UI's auto/vulkan/vaapi/software) and drops its pre-Vulkan "Automatic (VAAPI → software)" label. Verified on the RTX 5070 Ti box (loopback session, auto → "Vulkan Video hardware decode active", 60 fps); policy locked by unit test; clippy -D warnings + pf-client-core/pf-presenter tests green on Linux. feat(gamepad): classic Steam Controller backend — Linux UHID via hid-steam (N3)
The reserved GamepadPref::SteamController = 5 slot goes live: the same hid-steam driver under the wired-SC identity (28DE:1102, ID_CONTROLLER_STATE), UHID-only in v1 (no captured SC USB interface layout, so no Steam-Input promotion — the pre-usbip Deck state; acceptable for discontinued hardware). Layout pinned against the kernel's ID_CONTROLLER_STATE table: 24-bit buttons at 8..11 (low bits shared with the Deck; grips at 9.7/10.0 = the Deck's L5/R5 positions; right-pad click 10.2; joystick click 10.6), u8 triggers at 11/12, the joystick/left-pad MULTIPLEX at 16..20 (a left-pad contact shadows the stick, like real hardware's lpad_touched flag), right pad at 20..24. Mapping: wire left stick -> SC stick; wire right stick -> right-pad coords + touched bit (the SC's camera surface — the second-stick loss is inherent); PADDLE1/2 -> the two grips (natively, masked out of the fold input); PADDLE3/4 + MISC1 -> the remap policy. The SC parser has NO gamepad_mode gate, so no mode-entry pulse. SteamDeckPad grew a SteamModel (open_model); ScProto/SteamCtrlManager; pick_gamepad flips SteamController -> itself on Linux (replacing the Xbox360 fold); SDL picker splits Valve PIDs (Deck 1205 stays SteamDeck, SC 1102/1142 now declare SteamController). Verified: .21 clippy -D warnings + 304/0 tests + on-box UHID smoke (hid-steam binds 1102, BTN_A + right-pad ABS_RX land on evdev, no mode pulse); .133 clippy -D warnings green. feat(gamepad): Switch Pro backend — Linux UHID via hid-nintendo (N2)
A virtual Pro Controller (057E:2009, BUS_USB, verbatim 203-byte USB
descriptor triple-cross-checked from real-device captures) bound by
hid-nintendo (>= 5.16): Nintendo-family client pads get correct glyphs +
POSITIONAL layout (wire south/east/west/north -> Switch B/A/Y/X, so the
physical-position <-> glyph relationship survives), live gyro/accel, and
HD-rumble feedback — instead of folding to Xbox360 (mirrored A/B + X/Y,
no motion).
- switch_proto: report-0x30/0x21/0x81 codec + the entire canned probe
conversation, pinned line-by-line against hid-nintendo.c: 0x80-family
USB acks, device info (type 0x03 + per-pad MAC), SPI-flash calibration
blobs (user magics ABSENT -> factory path; sticks 2048 +/- 1400 with
the left/right byte-order difference; IMU offsets 0 + the driver's own
default scales so raw units pass 1:1), rumble amplitude decode through
the driver's inverted joycon_rumble_amplitudes table, player lights ->
0xCD PlayerLeds. 11 new pin tests.
- switch_pro: UHID backend answering the probe from the manager's
service pass; SwitchProManager = UhidManager<SwitchProProto> (the 8 ms
heartbeat doubles as the steady 0x30 stream the driver's post-probe
rate limiter wants). switchpro-test CLI smoke.
- Router/fold: SwitchPro arms; pick_gamepad SwitchPro -> itself on Linux;
degrade_if_no_uhid covers it. SDL picker: NintendoSwitchPro + JoyconPair
declare SwitchPro.
Headless-validated on .21 (hid-nintendo 7.1): probe completes ('using
factory cal' for sticks + IMU, player-1 LED round-trips to the 0xCD
plane), gamepad + IMU input devices created, and an evdev capture pins
the positional swap (wire A/B -> BTN_SOUTH/BTN_EAST) + full-range stick
scaling. .21 clippy -D warnings + 303/0 tests; .133 clippy -D warnings.

feat(gamepad): DualSense Edge backend — Linux UHID + Windows UMDF (N1)
The plain-DualSense transport + report codec under the Edge USB identity (054C:0DF2, verbatim 389-byte real-device descriptor cross-checked against the raw usbmon capture + hhd's production virtual Edge), so the wire back grips (BTN_PADDLE1..4: Deck L4/L5/R4/R5, Elite P1-P4) land on the Edge's NATIVE buttons[2] bits instead of the fold/drop policy: PADDLE1/2 -> the right/left back buttons, PADDLE3/4 -> the right/left Fn buttons (kernel BTN_TRIGGER_HAPPY1..4 on >= 7.2; SDL/Steam read hidraw on any kernel). - proto: Edge descriptor + btn2 bits + edge_paddle_bits(), pinned against hid-playstation DS_EDGE_BUTTONS_* and SDL_hidapi_ps5 (tests). - Linux: DsUhidIdentity parameterizes the UHID create; DsEdgeLinuxProto / DualSenseEdgeManager. Headless-validated on .21 (7.1): driver=playstation binds 0DF2, all 4 input devices created, probe lightbar/player-LED feedback round-trips; dualsense-test grew --edge (cycles all 4 paddles). - Windows: UMDF driver serves device_type=2 (Edge descriptor/attrs/strings, DS feature blobs); WinDsIdentity parameterizes the SwDevice profile + devtype stamp; DsEdgeWinProto / DualSenseEdgeWindowsManager; INF gains pf_dualsenseedge. Driver change => resign + reinstall before on-glass. - Router: DualSenseEdge arms in route_handle/apply_rich/pump/heartbeat; pick_gamepad folds Edge -> itself on linux||windows; degrade_if_no_uhid covers it. - Client (SDL): 054C:0DF2 declares DualSenseEdge (no distinct SDL type); Edge physical pads take the raw DS5 effects path; console-UI glyphs = Shapes. Apple/Android pickers follow separately. Verified: .21 clippy -D warnings + 292/0 host tests + on-box UHID bind smoke; .133 clippy pending in this push. feat(touch): cross-client touch-input modes on Linux + Windows
Bring the SDL presenter (Linux/Deck + Windows) to parity with the Android and
Apple clients: a persisted TouchMode selects how a touchscreen drives the host —
* Trackpad (default): relative cursor with pointer ballistics + the shared
gesture vocabulary (tap = left click, two-finger tap = right click,
two-finger drag = scroll, tap-then-drag = held left drag, three-finger tap =
cycle the stats overlay).
* Direct pointer: the cursor jumps to and follows the finger (absolute).
* Touch passthrough: every finger is a real host touchscreen contact.
Previously the presenter had no finger handling, so SDL synthesized mouse events
from touch and — under the stream's relative-mouse lock — walked the host cursor
into the corner (the reported Deck bug). SDL touch->mouse synthesis is now off;
DIRECT touchscreens route through a new incremental gesture engine (a port of
Android TouchInput.kt / Apple TouchMouse.swift), while INDIRECT trackpads keep
driving the mouse. Fingers map through the aspect-fit letterbox onto the content
rect.
TouchMode lives in the shared trust::Settings (default trackpad, so passthrough
is opt-in like the other clients); the GTK and WinUI settings screens both gained
a "Touch input" picker. Gesture engine, letterbox mapping, and settings
back-compat are unit-tested (28 tests green); clippy -D warnings clean; full
Linux client + session build verified on-host.

fix(gamepad/client): bound legacy Steam Deck rumble on a lost stop-frame (G16)
Against a legacy (no-TTL) host, a held Deck rumble droned forever if the stop datagram was lost: the 40 ms keep-alive re-kicked the actuator indefinitely and only the v2 lease `deadline` ever bounded it. Add a per-slot `updated_at` clock bumped ONLY by real host datagrams (never by the keep-alive re-kick, unlike `last_at`), and in the legacy branch (`ttl_ms == 0`) issue a single (0, 0) once it is stale past LEGACY_RUMBLE_CEILING_MS (1000 ms = 2x the host's flat 500 ms legacy refresh). A genuinely-held legacy rumble refreshes every 500 ms and never trips; the v2 `deadline` path is untouched and stays authoritative. Verified: Windows .173 `cargo clippy -p pf-client-core -- -D warnings` (green). On-glass owed: real Deck with an induced legacy stop-frame drop. fix(gamepad): truncate stick/trigger axes uniformly across clients (G25)
Apple's GamepadCapture rounded axis values (`(v * scale).rounded()`) while SDL-core and Android truncate, so a half-pressed control emitted 128 on Apple vs 127 elsewhere. Drop `.rounded()` so `Int32(Float)` truncates toward zero on Apple too; rails are unchanged (full deflection stays 255 / ±32767). Also clamp SDL-core's LeftX/RightX to a symmetric -32767 like the Y axes and the other clients already do, instead of letting the raw i16 reach -32768. Verified: Apple `swift build` + full PunktfunkKit suite (124 pass); SDL half on Windows .173 `cargo clippy -p pf-client-core -- -D warnings` (green). cargo fmt --all --check flagged the reanchor gate wiring (decode.rs / session.rs / abi.rs / reanchor.rs): wrapped signatures + comparisons, and two multi-line comments that followed a trailing-comment line were restructured to their own lines so rustfmt keeps them at normal indentation instead of deep-aligning them. feat(client): freeze-until-reanchor loss recovery on Android + Apple via shared core gate
After unrecoverable loss the host keeps sending delta frames that reference a picture the client never received; hardware decoders conceal these as gray/ garbage with a success status. Linux already withheld them and held the last good frame until a proven clean re-anchor — this brings that behavior to the Android and Apple clients. Extract the Linux pump's freeze state machine into a shared `ReanchorGate` in punktfunk-core (reanchor.rs, 18 tests) exposed over the C ABI (ABI v6, additive — no wire change) for the Swift clients. Migrate the Linux/Deck pump (pf-client-core) onto it as the parity proof (no-op refactor). Then wire: - Android (decode.rs, both sync + async loops): arm on the frame-index gap, a pts-keyed flag map carries the wire flags to the output-buffer release, fold the gate per drained output, gate.poll replaces the dropped-climb block. - Apple Stage2Pipeline (default): arm on a gap (new noteFrameIndexGap), withhold at the ring-submit seam (CAMetalLayer holds its last drawable), poll framesDropped, fold VT decode errors through the no-output streak. - Apple StreamPump (stage-1): fold at enqueue, withhold via kCMSampleAttachmentKey_DoNotDisplay so the layer keeps decoding (reference chain intact) but holds the last displayed frame. - Apple VideoDecoder: thread the AU's wire flags to the async decode callback via a retained FrameContext refcon (replaces the receivedNs bit-pattern scalar). Lifts only on a proven re-anchor (IDR / RFI anchor / 2nd recovery mark) with a 500 ms backstop so a lost re-anchor can never freeze forever. Apple: swift build clean, 123/123 tests pass (incl. VideoToolboxRoundTripTests). On-glass loss-injection validation still owed. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(gamepad): multi-controller support on the native plane
Host was already built for 16 pads; the blocker was every client hard-coding pad 0. This lands the host-side + reference-client contract: - input.rs: new wire kinds GamepadArrival=14 (declares a pad's type: code=GamepadPref byte, flags=pad) and GamepadRemove=13 (flags=seq<<24|pad, shares the snapshot seq space via encode/decode_gamepad_remove). - pf-client-core/gamepad.rs: reworked from a single `open` pad to a slots: Vec<Slot> model — every forwarded controller gets a stable lowest-free wire index held for its lifetime, per-slot held/axis/touch/ rumble state, GamepadArrival on open + GamepadRemove on close, and feedback routed back per wire index. Automatic forwards all real pads; a pin forces single-player. - punktfunk1.rs: replaced the single-session PadBackend enum with a Pads router — per-pad kinds[]/owner[] arrays, lazily-created per-kind managers, pure route_decision keeping a live device in its manager across a kind change (no ghost/dup). Input thread seq-gates GamepadRemove (clears the pad_mask bit, resets rumble) and applies GamepadArrival kinds. - inject linux/windows backends: add the two new no-op InputKind arms. Native/session + default-Windows clients (both spawn punktfunk-session) inherit this. 57 core + 33 client-core + 272 host tests green; clippy clean. fix(encode): harden loss-recovery correctness across host encoders (F1–F7)
Phases 1–4 of design/encoder-recovery-hardening.md — make the shipped RFI/ freeze-until-reanchor recovery honest and rebuild-safe across every backend. F1 — frame-index domain desync: the encode loop now owns a session-lifetime `au_seq`; `Encoder::submit_indexed(au_seq + inflight)` pins NVENC inputTimeStamp and AMF LTR slots to the WIRE frame index, so `invalidate_ref_frames` compares client frame numbers in the same domain and survives adaptive-bitrate rebuilds (an internal counter desynced on the first rebuild → RFI silently dead / an AMF force-ref onto a never-decoded frame). `FrameMsg.frame_index` → `Session::seal_frame_at`; GameStream gets the same via `VideoPacketizer:: packetize(.., Some(idx))`. F2 — Windows NVENC left the client frozen ~1s per loss: NVENC RFI was transparent (no anchor tag) while the session glue armed the 750ms IDR cooldown, so the freeze only lifted on the ~1s keyframe re-ask. NVENC now mirrors AMF — `pending_anchor` tags the first post-invalidate AU (the clean re-anchor P-frame) `recovery_anchor`, incl. the covering-range dedupe re-arm; the client lifts at ~RTT. F3 — speed-test probe filler burned video frame indexes: moved to its own index space (`Packetizer::alloc_probe_index` + `Session::submit_probe_frame`) with a second client reassembly window routed on FLAG_PROBE, gated on the new VIDEO_CAP_PROBE_SEQ Hello bit (mid-session probes declined for older clients). F4 — RFI range sanity cap: forward gaps wider than `packet::RFI_MAX_RANGE` (256) resync via keyframe instead of an out-of-range RFI, host- and client-side (client huge-gap → keyframe in `RfiRecovery::observe` + the pf-client-core pump). F5 — reset() parity: Windows NVENC (teardown + lazy re-init), Linux VAAPI (drop-inner), Linux NVENC (reopen from stored OpenArgs) now give the stall watchdog a heal lever instead of ending the session. F6 — sw.rs `pending: VecDeque` (was `Option`), killing the silent AU drop at capturer pipeline depth > 1. F7 — doc sweep on the RFI/anchor comments. Verified: punktfunk-core lib tests (macOS + Linux), full punktfunk-host suite on Linux (RTX 5070 Ti), Windows compile. Owed: the on-glass client matrix (F2 freeze A/B, AMF LTR spike across a bitrate rebuild). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

style: rustfmt the recovery + resize changes (Windows CI fmt check)
The `cargo fmt --check` step on the x86_64-pc-windows-msvc job was failing: the mid-stream loss-recovery and resize-overlay commits landed with unformatted wraps across pf-presenter, pf-client-core, punktfunk-core, pf-console-ui, and a few host files. feat(resize): scrim+spinner resize overlay in the shared presenter (Windows + GTK4)
The mid-stream Match-window trigger + Resolution tri-state already shipped on BOTH desktop clients via the session-always punktfunk-session binary (pf-presenter D1/D2, C1). This ports the last Apple-parity piece — the resize-in-progress indicator (clients/apple ResizeIndicator/ResizeIndicatorView) — into the SHARED pf-presenter overlay, so one implementation covers both the Windows and GTK4 session windows. - ResizeIndicator (run.rs): the Apple state machine in Rust — `steering` (a switch was requested) shows it, `decoded` (a frame reached the target size) clears it, `tick` times it out after 2.5 s for a switch the host rejected/capped. The live drag stays sharp; only the host's 0.3-2 s virtual-display + encoder rebuild gap is covered. A present-while-resizing path keeps the spinner animating through that frame-less gap. - DecodedImage::dimensions() (pf-client-core): the END signal — a decoded frame at the target size means the sharp new-mode picture is on glass (the accept ack alone lands ahead of the host's rebuild). Mirrors is_keyframe()'s cfg arms. - FrameCtx.resizing (pf-presenter/overlay.rs) + Skia draw (pf-console-ui): a full-screen 55% scrim + the shared rotating theme::spinner + "Resizing…" label. The overlay composites its own RGBA quad and can't sample the video to blur it as SwiftUI does, so a scrim stands in for the blur — same intent, one draw. resizing_since clocks the spinner; Drawn.resize_step defeats the damage gate so it redraws each frame. Verified on Linux: pf-presenter/pf-console-ui/session/linux-client build + clippy -D warnings clean; 8 pf-presenter tests green incl. 2 new ResizeIndicator tests. Windows session-binary compile (cfg-symmetric) + live on-glass both pending. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(recovery): clean mid-stream loss recovery — freeze-until-reanchor + AMD LTR-RFI
Removes the "gray frames with motion" artifact on Vulkan-Video clients and lets AMD/NVENC hosts re-anchor after loss WITHOUT a 20-40x IDR spike. Client (pf-client-core): after a reference loss the hardware decoder conceals the missing-reference deltas (on RADV, a gray plate with new motion painted over) and returns Ok. The pump now freezes on the last good picture until a clean re-anchor instead of showing the concealment — lifting on a real IDR, an intra-refresh recovery mark (2nd wave boundary), or an LTR-RFI recovery anchor (1st). The frame_index gap is the early, precise loss signal and drives an RFI request. Host recovery signals (inert unless the backend supports them): - USER_FLAG_RECOVERY_POINT — intra-refresh wave boundary (NVENC constrained GDR). - USER_FLAG_RECOVERY_ANCHOR — AMD LTR reference-frame-invalidation recovery frame. AMD LTR-RFI (encode/windows/amf.rs) — the AMD twin of NVENC RFI. AMF's AVC/HEVC API has no constrained-intra property (intra-refresh cannot heal; PSNR-proven), so the only clean-recovery lever is user LTR: mark frames as long-term references, and on loss force the next frame to re-reference the newest known-good one — a clean P-frame, not an IDR. Two rotating LTR slots, ~0.5s mark cadence, on by default for AVC/HEVC (PUNKTFUNK_NO_AMF_LTR disables). invalidate_ref_frames picks the newest LTR before the loss; a range older than the live slots falls back to a keyframe. Protocol (punktfunk-core): RfiRequest control message + NativeClient::request_rfi(). Host: RfiRequest dispatch -> invalidate_ref_frames (IDR fallback); an RFI success anchors the keyframe cooldown so the client's frames_dropped echo of the same loss is coalesced away rather than emitting a redundant IDR. Spike: synthetic NV12 GPU source for headless AMF encoder testing. Validated: core rfi_request_roundtrip; pf-client-core 31 unit tests (incl. an_rfi_anchor_lifts_immediately); punktfunk-host builds + 271 tests on Linux; punktfunk-host builds clean on Windows; real AMD iGPU spike (invalidate at frame 90 forced re-reference to LTR frame 60 — 180 frames, keyframes=1, no recovery IDR). feat(resize): mid-stream resolution resize — host hardening (H1–H5) + session-binary Match window (C1)
design/midstream-resolution-resize.md Phase 0 + Phase 1. Host (Phase 0): - H1/H5: per-backend Reconfigure acceptance gate — reject for gamescope (all sub-modes; a resize must never relaunch the title) and under the per-client-mode identity policy (a resize would resolve a different display slot). Synthetic stays reconfigurable on purpose (the protocol test source; the C-ABI roundtrip test rides it). Plus a 500 ms host-side min-interval backstop against Reconfigure spam. - H2: rollback/corrective ack — the data plane reports the mode actually live after a failed rebuild (or a refresh the backend capped) through a reconfig_result channel; the control task forwards it as a second accepted Reconfigured so the client's mode slot self-corrects. - H3: live stats mode — SendStats reads a packed AtomicU64 (w|h|hz) updated on every switch instead of latching the session-start mode. - H4: registry::retire(gen) — a mode-switch rebuild force-releases the superseded Linux display, so linger/forever keep-alive policies don't accumulate kept monitors at stale modes. VirtualOutput carries pool_gen (fresh AND reused) and the Pipeline tuple threads it to the switch arm. Client (Phase 1, default off): - Settings: match_window policy + persisted last window size; exposed as the Resolution tri-state (Native / Match window / explicit) in the Skia console, GTK and WinUI settings pages. - pf-presenter: window opens at the persisted size; Hello mode follows the window's pixel size; D2 trigger discipline (400 ms debounce to resize-end, ≥1 s spacing, even-floor + ≥320×200 clamp, each distinct size requested at most once — covers rejects and host rollbacks) as a pure, unit-tested decision; HUD line + title refresh on a switch. - Session binary wires both --connect and --browse paths; the WinUI shell is session-always, so this covers Windows too. Verified: workspace tests + clippy green; synthetic --remode end-to-end; live session-binary run (window at persisted 1000×600 → Hello 1000×600@60). On-glass per-backend matrix (Mutter/KWin/gamescope-reject, keep-alive accumulation) still pending before any default flip. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(rumble): host-authoritative self-terminating envelopes (0xCA v2)
Rumble was level-triggered, unbounded state on a lossy channel: a non-zero level meant "buzz until further notice", healed only by the host re-sending state every 500 ms, and every client guessed when the host had died with its own magic timeout (SDL 1.5 s, Apple 1.6 s, Android up to 60 s). A lost stop, a reordered start, or a dead host could drone the motor for seconds. Make "stuck rumble" inexpressible on the wire. The 0xCA datagram grows a length-tolerant tail — [u8 seq][u16 ttl_ms] — so it self-terminates: the host authorizes a level for at most ttl_ms and renews it (~120 ms) while it holds, letting an abandoned one lapse client-side. seq is a per-pad wrapping reorder gate (reusing GamepadSnapshot::seq_newer) so a reordered stale start can't re-light a stopped motor. Decoders read the first 7 bytes as a plain level and ignore the tail, so no wire-version bump: an old client renders a new host's levels, and a new client falls back to its prior staleness heuristic against an old host (ttl = None). All four generation pairings render correctly. - core: encode_rumble_datagram_v2 / decode_rumble_envelope (datagram.rs); the client demux applies the seq gate then forwards (pad, low, high, Option<ttl>); next_rumble is unchanged (drops ttl), next_rumble_ttl keeps it; ABI adds punktfunk_connection_next_rumble2 + PUNKTFUNK_RUMBLE_NO_TTL, ABI_VERSION 4->5 (WIRE_VERSION unchanged — the tail is backward-compatible). - host (punktfunk1.rs): the flat 500 ms refresh becomes a renewal loop that bumps seq + stamps a fresh TTL on active pads and drains a short post-stop zero burst, then goes quiet. Hatches: PUNKTFUNK_RUMBLE_ENVELOPE=0 (legacy v1 + flat refresh, a bisect switch), PUNKTFUNK_RUMBLE_TTL_MS (clamped [150, 5000]). - renderers honor the TTL as their playback duration/deadline and keep their old heuristic only for a legacy (ttl=None) update: pf-client-core (the Deck haptic keep-alive is now deadline-bounded so it can't sustain a host-stopped rumble), clients/windows (SDL duration), android (JNI packs the lease out-of-band in bit 48 so any u16 ttl is unambiguous; Kotlin createOneShot(ttl)), apple (RumbleRenderer.envelopeDeadline + nextRumble2; sessionStaleSeconds demoted to the legacy fallback). - tests: codec round-trip + tail tolerance + seq-gate reorder (Rust); the probe asserts the v2 tail arrived under PUNKTFUNK_TEST_FEEDBACK; the Apple loopback asserts ttlMs round-trips end to end; RumbleTuning lease-decision cases. The host-side idle-timeout from the previous commit is defense in depth on the game side; this is the guarantee on the client side. Design: punktfunk-planning/design/rumble-envelope-plan.md. feat(windows): parallel virtual displays — proto v3 ring binding, manager slot map, group topology (W0–W3)
design/windows-parallel-virtual-displays.md (display-management Stage 7 / §6.6): N simultaneously-live pf-vdisplay monitors, one sealed ring each, every idd-push-security invariant preserved per-ring. - proto v3: SharedHeader._pad → target_id — the ring NAMES its monitor, host-stamped before the magic; the driver publisher refuses a cross-bound ring via the shared, unit-tested frame::check_attach (new DRV_STATUS_BIND_FAIL — the gamepad pad_index validation applied to frames, invariant #10); the host's wait_for_attach surfaces the refusal loudly and self-checks its own stamp. - manager: the one-monitor MgrState becomes a slot map keyed by the client's identity slot (0 = anonymous/GameStream); per-slot reconnect + dead-WUDFHost preempts, slot-scoped begin_idd_setup (a different identity is an admission question, never a preempt), ONE device-level watchdog pinger, per-slot /display/state + /display/release. - group topology: isolate_displays_ccd takes the managed target SET (a sibling slot is never deactivated); SavedConfig + the DDC/PnP axes move to the group record (first-in captures, last-out restores); desktop layout via CCD source origins from the pure layout::arrange (auto-row default, manual pins win), re-applied on create + reconfigure. - admission: the Windows separate→reject override now sits behind the PUNKTFUNK_WIN_SEPARATE=1 validation hatch (the wedge it guarded is structurally gone — a second identity gets its own monitor + ring; default flips in W5 after soak); max_displays and NVENC session-unit budgets decline an unaffordable display AT admission; kick_dwm_compose is process-globally throttled and per-display — cursor jump + 35 ms dwell (a sub-tick jump composes nothing; DWM reads dirties from current state at the next vsync tick). On-glass on the RTX box: V1/V2/V4/V5/V6/V9 green — two paired clients on two monitors streaming ~60 fps each with zero mismatches and zero bind failures, churn-hammer clean (no 0x80070490), per-ring mode-change recreate leaves the sibling untouched, typed budget rejection, fault-injected cross-bind refused loudly with the sibling undisturbed. V7: WUDFHost-kill shared fate is clean; in-process device recovery is a known follow-up (the retired-never-closed control handles block the adapter cycle — reset-pf-vdisplay.ps1 recovers). DWM composes two IDD monitors concurrently at 60 fps — the plan's load-bearing unknown, answered yes. Also carries the client-HDR EDID forwarding that shared this working tree (Hello::display_hdr → AddRequest luminance tail → the monitor's CTA-861.3 HDR block, PUNKTFUNK_CLIENT_PEAK_NITS hatch) and the Deck client fixes (40 ms rumble keep-alive with 1-LSB jitter, HDR self-diagnosing presenter warn, flatpak HDR env). fix(video): honor the signaled CSC matrix end-to-end + tvOS HDR presentation
Clients derive Y'CbCr->RGB from the stream's SIGNALED matrix x range x depth via shared csc rows (Rust csc_rows + Swift CscRows) instead of hardcoded 709/2020 - a BT.601-signaled stream (a Linux host's RGB-input NVENC) no longer renders with a constant hue error. Host-side signaling made honest across NVENC/VAAPI/openh264/GameStream and the session plan's chroma/bit-depth. Decoded color-bar fixtures (601/709 x limited/full) pin the math in tests on both cores. Same presenter, tvOS HDR: tvOS has no Metal EDR API and a bare PQ colorspace tag composites UNTONE-MAPPED (the "overblown" Apple TV report), so HDR now splits on the display's live EDR headroom - PQ passthrough when the per-session AVDisplayManager mode switch landed (a real HDR10 output tone-maps itself), else an in-shader PQ->SDR tone-map (203-nit reference white, extended-Reinhard 1000-nit knee, 2020->709) into the proven SDR layer config. The 10-bit stream keeps its full decode depth either way. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(core): mid-stream clock re-sync — live offset survives wall-clock steps and drift
Networking-audit deferred plan §2. The host↔client offset was measured once at connect; an NTP step or slow drift silently corrupted the clock-based jump-to-live signal, the ABR one-way-delay signal, and every latency stat — 4a3b1ae2's disarm backstop stopped the IDR storm but lost the detector for the session. Now the client re-estimates mid-stream and recovers it. - quic: ClockResync — the connect-time 8-round probe/echo estimate as a select!-driven state machine (rounds matched by echoed t1, stale batches ignored), plus accept_resync (batch min-RTT ≤ max(2 ms, 1.5× connect RTT) so a congested window can never bias the offset). No wire change: the host has always answered ClockProbe at any time on the control stream. - client: the offset lives in an Arc<AtomicI64> seeded at connect; the control task re-probes every 60 s and immediately after the pump's FIRST no-op clock flush (the "clock stepped under me" signal, sent on the next report tick). On apply: store, reset stale_frames/noop_clock_flushes, re-arm the clock detector if a step had disarmed it. The disarm heuristic stays as the final backstop. Public NativeClient::clock_offset_ns keeps the connect-time value (ABI untouched); new clock_offset_now_ns() / clock_offset_shared() expose the live value. - consumers migrated to the live offset: pf-client-core session stats, the pf-presenter e2e stamp, Windows session/render, Android feeder/drain/ DisplayTracker (the tracker holds the shared handle, not the client, so the leaked render-callback refcount can't pin the session). - probe: --clock-resync runs a second full handshake mid-connection and asserts a sane, consistent estimate. Live against the local canary host: offsets 8646/2139 ns, disagreement 6 µs, 8/8 rounds — OK. Unit tests cover the round collection, stale-echo rejection, batch restart, min-RTT selection, and the acceptance guard. cargo ndk check green. Remaining manual validation: `sudo date -s "+2 sec"` on a live streaming client → expect one no-op flush, a re-sync, re-armed detector, no IDR pulse. feat(audio): libopus packet-loss concealment on the client audio plane
The 0xC9 audio datagrams ride the lossy plane with no FEC, and no client ever consulted the per-packet sequence: a lost 5 ms Opus packet played out as a hard gap in the ring — an audible click/pop on every drop, i.e. constantly on the Wi-Fi links where video loss is already being FEC-absorbed. Now a shared `AudioGapTracker` (punktfunk-core::audio — pure data, wrap-safe, unit-tested incl. u32 wraparound / reorder / duplicate cases) tells the decoder how many packets went missing immediately before each received one, and both native clients (pf-client-core PipeWire path, Android AAudio path) synthesize that many frames of libopus packet-loss concealment first: `decode` with empty input (the opus crate maps it to a NULL data pointer = PLC), sized by the last real frame's sample count. Interpolated fade instead of a click. Bounds: a gap is capped at 10 packets (50 ms) — libopus PLC fades to silence after a few frames anyway, so past the cap the rings' existing underrun/re-prime path takes over. Reorders and duplicates conceal nothing (the plane has no reorder buffer; playing a late packet where it lands is the existing behaviour). In-band Opus FEC (LBRR) is deliberately NOT used: the host sends 5 ms frames and LBRR needs ≥10 ms frames to carry anything. The cap is a crate-private const so cbindgen keeps it out of the C ABI header. Host cargo tests + clippy green; android crate verified via cargo ndk check. fix(security): anti-replay, 0600 client key, open redirect, supply-chain
Address findings from a repo security review:
- core: add a sliding-window anti-replay filter over the AEAD-authenticated
sequence in Session (poll_input/poll_frame), closing the input-replay gap the
data plane previously left to the LAN/VPN trust assumption. 4096-deep window,
unit-tested; the encrypted loopback suite confirms no false drops.
- clients: write the mTLS client private key 0600 and lock the config dir 0700
on Unix (it was world-readable at the umask default), re-locking existing
stores on load. pf-client-core::trust plus the probe's own identity writer.
Windows keeps the %APPDATA% ACL; Android/Apple already wrap the key.
- web: fix a post-login open redirect — resolve `next` via URL and require it to
stay same-origin, rejecting `/\evil.com` and tab/encoding variants the old
`!startsWith("//")` guard missed. Also fixes the dead safeNextPath helper.
- ci: SHA-256-pin the BtbN FFmpeg DLLs bundled into the signed Windows installer
(were fetched from the rolling `latest` tag unverified); fails closed on a
re-roll, matching the VB-CABLE gate.
- ci: fail-open fork-guard on the Windows/Apple host-mode PR build jobs that
share runner labels with the signing jobs. Definitive fix stays server-side
(Gitea outside-collaborator approval / isolated PR runners) — see the notes.

feat(clients): tiered stats overlay everywhere — Compact/Normal/Detailed on every platform
Ship the Android client's 3-tier stats-overlay semantics in every other client (design/stats-unification.md vocabulary): Off → Compact (one line: fps · e2e ms · Mb/s + loss flag) → Normal (mode + e2e p50/p95 + loss counters) → Detailed (decoder path, HDR tag, per-stage latency equation). Apple: new StatsVerbosity in PunktfunkKit persisted under punktfunk.statsVerbosity (migrates the legacy hudEnabled bool: explicit off → Off, else Normal). The existing three-finger tap (TouchMouse, trackpad/pointer modes only — touch passthrough untouched) now cycles the tiers instead of toggling, matching Android; ⌃⌥⇧S (menu + captured-state monitor) cycles the same ladder. Tiered StreamHUDView (compact glass pill / headline HUD / full equation HUD); the iOS corner disconnect also shows in Compact (the pill carries no button). Tier pickers on iOS, macOS, tvOS and the gamepad settings UI. Session stack (Linux + Windows + Deck share punktfunk-session): shared pf_client_core::trust::StatsVerbosity; Settings grows stats_verbosity with a show_stats fallback, and writes keep the legacy bool in sync so pre-tier binaries reading the same JSON agree on off vs on. Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S cycles the tier and re-renders the OSD immediately from the last stats window; the stdout stats: line always carries the full Detailed text so the shell status card and scripts keep a stable shape; --stats bumps Off → Normal without demoting a richer tier. Tier pickers in the GTK dialog, the WinUI settings page and the console-UI settings row; shortcut copy updated (GTK shortcuts window, Windows help, session README). The Windows legacy builtin path keeps its bool HUD. Tests: tier migration/round-trip in trust.rs, tiered stats_text output in pf-presenter. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(clients): shared-VkQueue race + swapchain recreate destroy-in-use — the intermittent device-lost stream killer
Live-diagnosed on the RTX box during the adaptive-bitrate A/B: 2 of 3 streams died with VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST at stream start or at a mid-stream encoder rebuild, then zombied — the demote-to-software path rebuilt the decoder against the same dead device, FFmpeg wedged inside the rebuild, and the pump flushed a never-draining backlog every 2 s forever. No OS TDR: the client's own Vulkan misuse. Two causes: 1. The presenter creates ONE graphics-family queue and hands FFmpeg's AVVulkanDeviceContext the same family (nb_graphics_queues=1 ⇒ queue 0) for its transfer/compute prep — so the pump thread and the presenter thread submitted to the SAME VkQueue with no shared lock, violating vkQueueSubmit's external-sync rule exactly when FFmpeg puts work on the graphics queue (decoder open / frames-context rebuild = stream start and every ABR encoder re-target). New guard-less QueueLock (FFmpeg's lock_queue/unlock_queue callbacks are a raw pair) shared by all four queue users: FFmpeg (callbacks installed via user_opaque), the presenter's submit/present/wait-idle, and the Skia overlay's flushes. 2. Swapchain recreation destroyed the old swapchain + render semaphores after ONE fence cycle — the fence proves our submit, not the presentation engine's semaphore consumption (VUID-vkDestroySemaphore-05149 + VUID-vkDestroySwapchainKHR-01282 on every recreate). Recreate now drains the queue (vkQueueWaitIdle under the shared lock — safe now that FFmpeg honours it) and destroys immediately; the deferred DisplayGarbage machinery is gone. Resilience: VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST anywhere in a present error chain is now fatal — the run loop fails the session loudly instead of demoting to software on a dead device (the zombie path). Verified on the RTX box (RTX 4090 → host .21) under VK_LAYER_KHRONOS_validation: 3/3 stream start/stop cycles clean, then 8 mid-stream encoder rebuilds in one session (4 ABR down-steps under 10% induced loss + 4 clean-link recovery up-steps — the exact scenarios that previously killed the device): 0 device losses, 0 wedges, both recreate VUIDs gone (previously fired on every path). Remaining validation messages are FFmpeg's own video-session VUIDs, untouched by this change. Linux: clippy -D warnings + tests green (home-worker-2). fix(ci): windows clippy + rustfmt debt from the D3D11VA push
The windows workflow has been red since
|
||
|
|
a69a83b545 |
feat(clients/windows): D3D11VA hardware decode in the session client — Vulkan chain becomes vulkan → d3d11va → software
The vendor-agnostic DXVA path for GPUs without Vulkan Video (Intel's Windows driver foremost, which previously landed on CPU decode). Ported from the retired WinUI presenter's decoder with its Intel-safe discipline intact (decode pool stays libavcodec-derived — a hand-built pool broke Intel at the first SubmitDecoderBuffers), on a decode device LUID-matched to the presenter's adapter. Hand-off is a ring of shareable BGRA8 textures (SHARED_NTHANDLE | SHARED_KEYEDMUTEX) filled by the fixed-function ID3D11VideoProcessor (NV12/P010 → BGRA8, colour spaces from the per-frame CICP; PQ is tone-mapped to SDR by the processor — HDR-first boxes take Vulkan Video). BGRA is deliberate: importing a multiplanar NV12 D3D11 texture device-losts on NVIDIA however it is consumed (plane-view sampling and DMA copy both validation-clean, both TDR — bisected), while single-plane RGBA D3D11↔Vulkan interop is the path Chromium/ANGLE exercise on every driver. The presenter imports a slot's NT handle per frame (VK_KHR_external_memory_win32, gated on the spec-required external-format probe) and blits it into the video image — no CSC pass; the DXGI keyed mutex (key 0 both sides, drop-tolerant) is the cross-API lock and visibility barrier. Verified live vs a real host at 5120x1440@240 HEVC on an RTX 4090: 240 fps, e2e 2.7/3.0 ms p50/p95 under the Khronos validation layer — parity with Vulkan Video (2.6 ms); auto still resolves vulkan on NVIDIA. PUNKTFUNK_DECODER=d3d11va forces it; import/present failures demote to software on the existing streak contract. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(clients): pin mDNS discovery to IPv4 on every client
Host machines' OS mDNS responders answer AAAA for hostname.local even though the punktfunk stack binds IPv4 sockets exclusively, so a v6-resolved address rendered a host card whose connect always failed. Apple's Network.framework prefers IPv6 (RFC 6724) — force the resolve connection to v4; pf-client-core (Linux/Windows/Deck shells) now picks get_addresses_v4() instead of an arbitrary first address. Android already did exactly this, for the same reason. Lift all three when the stack actually speaks IPv6 (per-family shard sizing is the gating item — the IPv6 header costs 20 bytes of the MTU budget shard_payload is maximal against). feat(console): full gamepad shell — hosts, PIN pairing, settings, OSK, screen transitions
The Skia console UI grows from the single library coverflow into a complete couch shell (Apple gamepad-UI parity), so a Deck/gamescope session is self-sufficient end to end: - Home: host carousel (saved + discovered + Add Host tile) with presence pips, paired locks, wake & connect; A/Y/X/B per the Apple launcher. - In-console SPAKE2 PIN pairing (previously needed the Decky plugin or a desktop), add-host with a controller keyboard, couch settings over the shared Settings store, wake-on-LAN overlay with retry, cancelable dials. - Shell chrome: screen stack with push/pop entrance/exit choreography (slide + fade + recede; aurora↔form backdrop crossfade), per-pad button glyphs (PS shapes vs ABXY, keycaps with no pad), menu haptics, toasts, embedded Geist typography, in-stream start banner. - Steam Deck: our OSK never draws — fields start SDL text input (the new Overlay::text_input_active hook) and Steam's keyboard types; a hint chip points at STEAM + X. Other Linux gets the full gamepad keyboard tray. - punktfunk-session: bare --browse opens Home; --browse host opens that host's library with Home behind it (Decky launches keep working, B now pops instead of quitting). Service threads run discovery, 10 s probes, pairing, wake loops, fetches, and known-hosts persistence. - Presenter contract: Launch actions carry the host, CancelConnect never engages a won race, pad kind/list ride FrameCtx, menu events flow while dialing so B can cancel. Every screen renders to PNG on CPU raster for review (PF_CONSOLE_DUMP=<dir> cargo test -p pf-console-ui -- --ignored dump). Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(clients/windows): game library page + session window placement + help polish
UX polish batch 2 (plan workstreams D/E5/E6): - D: a mouse/keyboard game library page over pf-client-core::library (the GTK ui_library.rs counterpart): responsive 2-6 column poster grid (2:3 portraits, store badge, monogram placeholder while art streams in), loading / error+retry / empty / grid states, tap-to-play via a normal spawn carrying --launch id. Poster bytes land in a disk cache (%LOCALAPPDATA%\punktfunk\art-cache) so the Image widget loads file:/// URIs (reactor has no from-bytes source) and revisits render instantly. Reached from a paired host's "Browse library..." menu item behind the new "Show game library (experimental)" Settings toggle (the shared library_enabled field, Apple/GTK parity). A Shared::library_gen generation guard keeps a superseded fetch from publishing (speed-test pattern). - E5: the session window opens at the shell's own top-left (--window-pos, new SessionOpts::window_pos) instead of centered on the primary display - streams land on the monitor the shell is on, and the hide/restore handoff reads as one window changing content. Fullscreen follows that display. - E6: the Help shortcuts add Alt+Enter and the controller escape chord (LB+RB+Start+Back, hold to disconnect). Also: rustfmt normalization of the merged probe helper. feat(clients/windows): single-window handoff, shared settings store, console-UI surfacing
UX polish batch 1 (clients/windows/ui-polish-plan.md, workstreams W0/A1/B/C/E):
- W0: the shell's duplicated trust/settings structs are gone — src/trust.rs
re-exports pf-client-core's, so the shell and the spawned session binary share
ONE Settings shape over client-windows-settings.json. Fixes real bugs: the
shell's saves no longer drop session-side fields; the stats-overlay toggle
(show_hud -> show_stats, serde alias migrates old files) and the forwarded-
controller pick now actually reach the spawned session. The "Streaming engine"
Settings combo is gone (PUNKTFUNK_BUILTIN_STREAM=1 stays as the dev A/B knob).
- Forwarded-controller pinning by stable key (vid:pid:name, pf-client-core's
format): persisted as forward_pad, applied by the shell's own service at
startup AND by the session binary in session_params (both OSes — the session
never applied the pin before).
- A1 single window: the shell hides itself when the spawned session window
presents its first frame ({"ready":true}) and restores + foregrounds on the
child's exit — exactly one visible Punktfunk window at any time. Restore runs
before the request-access cancel gate so a Ready/Cancel race can't strand the
shell hidden.
- C console UI: punktfunk-session --browse gains --json-status (ready when the
library window presents; error line on a failed start), and the shell
surfaces it — "Open console UI" on paired hosts' menus, plus a controller-
detected hint card targeting the most recent paired host (x64 only; aarch64
ships no skia ui feature). Browse spawns hide/restore the shell like streams.
- B responsive: minimum window size (420x360); the hosts header collapses to
icon-only buttons below 700 px; the session status card shrinks instead of
clipping (max_width); busy pages, help actions, licenses and long labels wrap.
- E polish: session exe gets the app icon (winresource + WM_SETICON via the new
pf-presenter win32.rs); both exes share an explicit AppUserModelID on
unpackaged runs (packaged identity wins) so the windows group as one taskbar
app across the visibility handoff; "Start streams fullscreen" toggle passes
--fullscreen (GTK parity); connects stamp KnownHost::last_used; the connect
target is stashed for every route so "Connecting to X" always names the host.

feat(clients): reachability-probed presence + shareable Decky host management
Add a bounded, trust-agnostic, mDNS-INDEPENDENT QUIC reachability probe and surface it everywhere saved-host presence is shown, so a host reached over a routed network (Tailscale/VPN/multicast-filtering LAN) no longer reads Offline just because it isn't advertising — the display-side companion to the 0.8.4 dial-first connect fix. Core: - punktfunk-core: NativeClient::probe (bounded handshake; a real host answers even on trust mismatch, a wrong/closed/TCP-only port fails) + punktfunk_probe C ABI (ABI_VERSION 3->4, header regenerated). - pf-client-core: trust::probe_reachable_many (parallel per-host sweep). Presence pips now read `advertising OR probed-reachable`, refreshed by a ~10-12s background sweep off the UI thread: - Linux (relm4): ui_hosts probed map + HostsMsg::Probed sweep. - Windows (windows-reactor): pf-probe worker -> HostsProps.probed. - Apple (SwiftUI): HostStore.refreshReachability, driven by HomeView + GamepadHomeView .task. - Android (Compose): nativeProbe JNI seam + periodic LaunchedEffect (LNP-gated), online dot added to the touch HostCard. - Decky already probes via --list-hosts --probe. Decky client: make the flatpak client's known-hosts store the single source of truth via new headless CLI modes (--list-hosts / --add-host / --set-host / --forget-host / --reset / --reachable). The plugin can now add a host by address, edit/forget hosts, reset all state (keeping the client identity), and shows probe-backed online pips — state is shared with the desktop client, not duplicated. Also lands in-progress Android 17 LNP groundwork (targetSdk 37 + ACCESS_LOCAL_NETWORK runtime flow, permission dialogs) that was already present in the working tree. Verified: cargo check + clippy clean (punktfunk-core, pf-client-core, linux, android native); android assembleDebug BUILD SUCCESSFUL; decky typecheck + rollup build clean; probe true/false-positive behaviour exercised against a live host. Windows and Apple were not compiled locally (no MSVC/Xcode on this Linux box). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |
